Transcript
00:00Half the room is cringey and the other half is like, I gotta get home and grab my selfie stick.
00:04Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're taking a look at the most cringe-inducing award show moments of each year
00:10since the start of the new millennium.
00:14The George!
00:16Let's go!
00:182000, Ronnie Wood throws his drink at Brandon Block, the 20th Brit Awards.
00:24At the 2000 Brit Awards, actress Thora Birch and Ronnie Wood of the Rolling Stones presented the prize for Best
00:31Soundtrack Album.
00:32Before they could announce that the winner was Nodding Hill, an intoxicated Brandon Block suddenly ambushed them.
00:38Although the DJ wasn't up for any awards, his friends reportedly told him that he had won Best Musician of
00:44the Year.
00:45Brandon Block!
00:47Bye, mate! Bye!
00:49Bye!
00:50As Block screamed his name into the mic, security attempted to escort him off the stage.
00:56When Block came charging back, Wood threw his drink in his face and the two exchanged insults.
01:01Block was subsequently thrown out of the ceremony, leaving the bewildered audience wondering what the hell had just happened.
01:092001, Elizabeth Taylor.
01:11Are you not entertained?
01:13The 58th Golden Globe Awards.
01:15Elizabeth Taylor is the definition of a screen legend.
01:19Making her more than qualified to present the Best Picture Drama Golden Globe.
01:23Jeff Bridges gave Taylor the introduction she deserved, building her up as one of the all-time greats.
01:29I have the privilege of introducing one of Hollywood's all-time great stars.
01:34Ladies and gentlemen, Dame Elizabeth Taylor!
01:38Taylor received a standing ovation.
01:40And then, well, for somebody who won so many awards during her lifetime, she seemingly forgot how award shows work.
01:48Prematurely opening the envelope, Taylor needed Dick Clark to come on stage and remind her to read the nominees first.
01:54What is this for?
01:55You must read the nominees first.
01:56What's this? Oh, I see.
01:58Taylor proceeded to list off the nominees.
02:00Very slowly and with her words slurred, finally announcing Gladiator as the winner.
02:06And the winner is a splashing envelope.
02:20Gladiator!
02:22Gladiator!
02:22Whether or not Taylor had been drinking as some have speculated, one thing is for certain.
02:28Jinx Monsoon does a dead-on impression of Liz.
02:322002, Michael Jackson's Birthday Award, the 19th MTV Video Music Awards.
02:38To commemorate Michael Jackson's 44th birthday, Britney Spears presented him with a special statue at the 2002 VMAs.
02:46There was some confusion as to why Jackson was receiving this honor, however.
02:50The misunderstanding stemmed from a comment the Princess of Pop made regarding the King of Pop, calling him, quote,
02:56the artist of the millennium.
02:57So, when Jackson took to the stage, he assumed he was accepting the Artist of the Millennium Award, which does
03:03not even exist.
03:04This is really amazing. I can't believe it.
03:07While nobody corrected Jackson during his humble speech, host Jimmy Fallon poked fun at the incident shortly after.
03:13I'd like to accept the Artist of the Millennium Award myself. I guess they're giving him backstage.
03:18Jack Black also parodied the moment one year later, accepting the Super Genius of the Universe Award.
03:242003, Michael Moore takes on the President.
03:27The 75th Academy Awards.
03:30With the Iraq War commencing just days earlier, political tensions were high going into the 2003 Oscars.
03:36Jack Nicholson reportedly suggested that the Best Actor nominees boycott the ceremony,
03:41while director Hayao Miyazaki, who won Best Animated Feature that year, refused to attend.
03:47Uh...
03:48Thanks, but I don't need any more.
03:50Michael Moore was in attendance, however.
03:53And when Bowling for Columbine won Best Documentary Feature, Moore gave the politically charged speech his fans might expect.
04:01Yet nothing could prepare the audience for Moore's comments on George W. Bush,
04:06describing everything about his presidency as fictitious.
04:10The mix of boos and applause only made Moore's speech more uncomfortable.
04:14All I said was is that I thought we were being lied to about this thing about weapons of mass
04:19destruction,
04:19and seeing how I made a movie about weapons of destruction seemed like an appropriate thing to say.
04:25Moore didn't get to finish his speech at the Oscars,
04:27but he'd finally share the rest at the Critics' Choice Documentary Awards almost 15 years later.
04:342004.
04:35Michael Douglas' tribute goes on forever.
04:38The 61st Golden Globe Awards.
04:40Michael Douglas has had a storied career,
04:43and you definitely felt its length when he received the Cecil B. DeMille Award.
04:48Danny DeVito and Sharon Stone spent nearly 10 minutes reminiscing about Douglas' cinematic contributions,
04:54complete with drawn-out clips.
04:56I've known Michael Douglas longer than some men's wives have been alive.
05:04This might be acceptable at the Governor's Awards or the AFI Life Achievement Awards,
05:09but the Golden Globes are already lengthy enough,
05:12with nearly two dozen other statues to hand out.
05:15Then, when Douglas' tribute finally wrapped up,
05:18it suddenly dawned on the audience that he still needed to give a speech.
05:22Thank you so much to the foreign press.
05:24Yes, this is always a lovely evening.
05:28The drink doesn't hurt.
05:29He did not keep it short.
05:31After nearly 20 minutes of squirming in their seats and checking their watches,
05:36the uncomfortable viewers breathed a sigh of relief as they cut to commercial.
05:412005.
05:42Donald Trump Sings with Karen Walker.
05:44The 57th Primetime Emmy Awards.
05:48Capitalizing on American Idol,
05:49the 2005 Emmy telecast had some of TV's biggest stars sing popular theme songs.
05:55They kicked off Emmy Idol with Donald Trump,
05:58then best known for The Apprentice,
05:59and Megan Mullally in character as Karen Walker.
06:03The song?
06:03The Green Acres theme,
06:05with Donald trading his blue suit and red tie for farmer attire.
06:10Let's talk.
06:12Let's share.
06:14Trump Tower.
06:15You are my wife.
06:17Goodbye, city line.
06:18Watching this cringy spectacle,
06:20we all thought the same thing.
06:2211 years from now,
06:24that man is going to be elected president,
06:26and Will and Grace will be revived shortly after.
06:28While Trump never won a competitive Emmy,
06:31he did share in this Emmy Idol win,
06:34which even Mullally regrets.
06:35We really needed to win that,
06:38and we did.
06:39And you were a big part of that,
06:40and so I just wanted to say thank you.
06:41We really needed to win that thing.
06:43And I'm thinking,
06:43okay, wait,
06:44if he needs to win Emmy Idol that bad,
06:47what must it be like now?
06:49Quite frankly,
06:50Kristen Bell should have won for her fame rendition,
06:52but Trump is known for beating more qualified candidates.
06:562006.
06:57Melody Out of Harmony.
06:59The 34th American Music Awards.
07:01Other than a chair falling over,
07:03the Pussycat Dolls performance at the 2006 AMA's
07:06almost went off without a hitch.
07:08Well, you loosen up my buttons,
07:11but you keep running out.
07:13Then, with less than a minute left,
07:15Melody Thornton stormed onto the stage.
07:17If you forgot that this group had a sixth member,
07:20you definitely remembered as Thornton started singing off-pitch
07:23over Nicole Scherzinger.
07:25The performance left many feeling confused,
07:27and probably pressed a few buttons.
07:30You keep running out.
07:32I'll turn you into the music of AMA's.
07:36Come on, now.
07:39But you keep running.
07:41Baby.
07:4214 years later,
07:43Thornton explained that a lost passport
07:45caused her to miss rehearsals,
07:47landing shortly before the show.
07:49So, if you thought Thornton's grand finale
07:51looked unrehearsed,
07:52that's because it was.
07:53It is what it is.
07:54You just hammer through.
07:55Feeling worthless in the group,
07:57Thornton went solo a few years later,
07:59and announced that she wasn't taking part in the reunion.
08:09Some award show moments hurt to watch
08:12because they're so embarrassing.
08:14This one hurts to watch because it involves actual physical pain.
08:17Here are three of the hottest tea idols around,
08:20and my friends,
08:21the Jonas Brothers!
08:23When the Jonas Brothers kicked off their performance of SOS
08:26at the 2007 American Music Awards,
08:28glass panels shattered right before they walked down the stage.
08:31Joe, in the middle,
08:32took a bit of a tumble,
08:34falling on the broken glass.
08:38But he didn't let pain get in the way of performing.
08:41To reference SOS,
08:43you better believe Joe Bled.
08:50According to the singer,
08:52he didn't even realize how bad he was bleeding
08:54until he got backstage.
08:56The Jonas Brothers cool factor
08:57definitely went up in this moment,
08:59even if the tumble was a little awkward.
09:08Falling once is embarrassing,
09:10but it's easy enough to recover from.
09:12Two or three times is a little more difficult.
09:15But four times?
09:24That's what happened to Katy Perry
09:25at the Latin America iteration of the VMAs.
09:28When her performance of I Kissed a Girl concluded,
09:30Perry belly flopped into a huge pink cake
09:33and started throwing it into the crowd.
09:42Then, after playfully tossing some cake on her guitarist,
09:45Perry slipped four times on the icing,
09:48getting up and falling down again and again,
09:50albeit grinning the whole way through.
09:57By the end,
09:58she seemed to just give up and crawl instead.
10:05All this to say that a successful award show performance
10:08is not always a piece of cake.
10:112009.
10:12I'ma let you finish.
10:13The 26th MTV Video Music Awards.
10:17Somehow,
10:18this makes Sacha Baron Cohen
10:19flying onto Eminem's face feel restrained.
10:23What's up?
10:25Eminem, nice to meet you.
10:26You serious?
10:27After Taylor Swift won the VMA for Best Female Video,
10:30Kanye West jumped on stage
10:32and snatched the microphone out of her hands,
10:34declaring that Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time.
10:38I'm really happy for you.
10:40I'ma let you finish.
10:40But Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time.
10:44West was booed off stage
10:45while Swift cried her eyes out backstage,
10:48forcing Beyoncé to do some damage control.
10:51The moment immediately sparked countless parodies,
10:54memes,
10:54and discussions.
10:55In response to West's behavior,
10:57U.S. President Barack Obama called him a jackass,
11:00while future President Donald Trump called for a Kanye boycott.
11:04Well, there's one thing Obama and Trump could agree on.
11:06Meanwhile,
11:07West also nearly repeated himself
11:08at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards
11:11when Beck won Album of the Year.
11:142010,
11:14Lady Gaga's Meat Dress,
11:16the 27th MTV Video Music Awards.
11:19When a dress is displayed in a museum
11:22and even gets a Wikipedia page,
11:24that must mean it's either a revelation of fashion
11:27or a head-scratching misfire.
11:29I never thought I'd be asking Cher to hold my meat purse.
11:33And I promised if I won this tonight,
11:36I'd announce the name of my new record.
11:41It's called Born This Way.
11:43Where does this meat dress place?
11:45That kind of depends who you ask,
11:47but when Lady Gaga accepted Video of the Year
11:49in this raw flank steak ensemble,
11:51you could hear Jaws across the globe hitting the floor.
11:55While Gaga was already famed
11:56for her elaborate fashion stunts,
11:58this was so out there
12:00that a lot of people still don't know what to think.
12:02Of course, vegans have their opinion.
12:04Gaga would explain that the dress
12:06is a statement about fighting for your rights.
12:08If we don't stand up for what we believe in,
12:10if we don't fight for our rights,
12:12pretty soon we're going to have as much rights
12:14as the meat on our bones.
12:15While the message is strong,
12:17it might have been overshadowed
12:19by this moment's sheer absurdity.
12:222011, Ricky Gervais mocks the tourist,
12:24the 68th Golden Globe Awards.
12:27If you hire Ricky Gervais to host your award show,
12:30you're going to get some pretty sharp remarks.
12:33Welcome to the 68th annual Golden Globe Awards,
12:36live from the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.
12:39It's going to be a night of partying and heavy drinking.
12:42During his monologue at the 68th Golden Globe Awards,
12:45the comedian snarked about The Tourist,
12:47a critically panned thriller
12:49starring Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie
12:51that somehow received three Golden Globe nominations.
12:54Despicable Me, Tron,
12:56seems like everything this year was three-dimensional,
12:59except the characters in The Tourist.
13:01Gervais not so subtly implied
13:03it only received the nominations
13:05out of star power and voter bribery.
13:07But the only reason The Tourist was nominated
13:09was so the Hollywood foreign press
13:11could hang out with Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie.
13:13That is rubbish.
13:15That is not the only reason.
13:17They also accepted bribes.
13:18His jokes were met with either muted reactions
13:22or surprised laughter.
13:23There was really no in-between.
13:25Tough room at the Golden Globes, apparently.
13:28All that happened was some of them
13:30were taken to see Cher in concert.
13:32How the hell is that a bribe?
13:34The tourist went home empty-handed,
13:36but Gervais and his rabble-rousing style
13:39returned to host the Golden Globes three more times.
13:422012, the original Envelope Gate,
13:46the 39th Annie Awards.
13:47About five years before another Envelope mix-up,
13:51Animation's Biggest Night had a similar fiasco.
13:54Presenting Best Animated Television Production, Preschool,
13:57actress Brittany Snow announced the winner,
13:59The Amazing World of Gumball.
14:01Almost everyone quickly realized
14:03that something was amiss,
14:05seeing as how Gumball wasn't even a nominee.
14:08Wait, what?
14:09There's the aliens.
14:12And history has been made.
14:16Wait, what?
14:18Gumball actually won Best Animated Television Production, Children,
14:22which was supposed to be announced later.
14:23Host Patton Oswalt hurried onto the stage,
14:26explaining the situation with some well-timed one-liners
14:29and embracing the awkwardness of it all.
14:31An envelope was opened early,
14:33so before the demons begin to attack,
14:37we're going to actually have these winners come up.
14:40Yeah, we'll have these winners come up.
14:42It's okay.
14:43And they're gonna get their Annie Award.
14:46Before having the Gumball crew come up and accept,
14:49Patton cracked a few more jokes
14:50at co-presenter Jason Marsden's expense
14:52and assured Snow it was all right.
14:55It's not like she was presenting
14:56Best Picture at the Academy Awards.
14:592013, Miguel meets an audience member,
15:02the 20th Billboard Music Awards.
15:04R&B singer Miguel makes the perfect music
15:07for intimate moments,
15:08but not the kind that happened
15:10at the 2013 Billboard Music Awards.
15:18While performing his hit song Adorn,
15:21Miguel leapt over the crowd
15:22onto a different part of the stage.
15:24However, it wasn't a smooth landing,
15:26as he landed crotch first
15:28into an audience member's face,
15:30also hitting her with his leg.
15:32She appears to brush off the incident all right,
15:34and Miguel keeps on singing.
15:36He perfectly demonstrates that
15:38as long as you play it cool,
15:39it doesn't have to be awkward.
15:40But hopefully he practiced
15:42his onstage acrobatics after this.
15:44I'm really happy to bring
15:46my new friend, Kiaty, we just met.
15:48Yeah.
15:49Unfortunately, we met under
15:50not the best circumstances.
15:522014, Adele Dazeem,
15:55the 86th Academy Awards.
15:57If you're a Broadway fan,
15:59you know Idina Menzel for her work
16:00in musicals like Rent and Wicked.
16:02For mainstream audiences,
16:04it was Menzel's voiceover performance
16:06as Elsa in Frozen
16:07that made her a household name.
16:09However,
16:09John Travolta still couldn't
16:11get her name right
16:11at the 2014 Academy Awards.
16:14Before Menzel performed
16:15the Oscar-winning Let It Go,
16:17Travolta introduced her as,
16:19the wickedly talented
16:21one and only Adele Dazeem.
16:23Oh, by the way,
16:24we've changed
16:25Idina's name
16:26to phonetic spelling.
16:27But what do you mean?
16:29Go!
16:30This flub was so bad,
16:31it actually inspired
16:32an Adele Dazeem name generator,
16:34allowing people
16:35to Travolta-fy their names.
16:37Making light of the mistake,
16:39Menzel playfully turned the tables
16:40the following year,
16:42announcing Travolta
16:43as Glom Gazingo.
16:44It threw me a little bit.
16:46How many times a day?
16:46But now it's the best thing
16:47that's ever happened.
16:48Yeah, but now of course it is.
16:55You're bound to find
16:56plenty of cleavage
16:57at virtually any award show.
16:59The key is to not point it out,
17:01but Golden Globes
17:02is a rather suggestive name.
17:04So when Jennifer Lopez
17:05sported a revealing dress
17:06at the 2015 ceremony,
17:08Jeremy Renner
17:09could not resist
17:10connecting the dots.
17:11The Golden Globe goes to...
17:13You want to open it?
17:14You want me to do it?
17:14Yeah.
17:15I have the nails.
17:15Yeah, get after it.
17:17You got the Globes too.
17:19Um...
17:20Presenting an award together,
17:22Lopez mentioned
17:23that she had the nails
17:24to open the envelope,
17:25to which Renner added
17:26that she had the Globes as well.
17:29Igniting laughter and shock,
17:30the comment arguably overshadowed
17:32Billy Bob Thornton's win.
17:34During his speech,
17:35Thornton mentioned
17:36that you can get into
17:36a lot of trouble,
17:37quote,
17:38no matter what you say.
17:39It's a reminder Renner
17:40probably wishes
17:41he'd heard sooner.
17:432016,
17:44Leo's Look at Lady,
17:46the 73rd Golden Globe Awards.
17:49Several years after
17:50the meat dress,
17:51Lady Gaga stunned
17:52in Versace
17:52at the Golden Globes.
17:57Where are you, Gaga?
17:59Help me.
18:02While it wasn't
18:03her most eccentric outfit,
18:04Gaga inspired
18:05at least one
18:06head-turning look,
18:07courtesy of Leonardo DiCaprio.
18:09As Gaga slid behind him
18:11on her way to the stage,
18:12DiCaprio's laughter
18:13turned to surprise
18:14with a cringey expression.
18:16The moment went by
18:17so quickly
18:18that the average viewer
18:19might have missed it
18:20at first.
18:21If the internet
18:22is known for one thing,
18:23though,
18:24it's turning a brief
18:25Leonardo DiCaprio gesture
18:26into a viral moment.
18:28Although some assumed
18:30he was throwing shade,
18:31DiCaprio explained
18:32that he didn't know
18:33what was passing him.
18:34That's trending, huh?
18:35That's trending, yeah.
18:36You see how quick it happens.
18:37I just didn't know
18:38what was passing me,
18:38that's all.
18:39The two were reportedly
18:40seen laughing it up
18:41at the after party,
18:42although the GIF
18:44remains an awkward
18:45time capsule.
18:472017
18:47Wrong Best Picture Winner
18:49announced
18:50the 89th Academy Awards.
18:52Something was clearly
18:54amiss at the 2017 Oscars
18:56when Warren Beatty
18:57hesitated to announce
18:58the Best Picture Winner.
18:59If you turned off
19:00your television
19:00after Faye Dunaway
19:02declared La La Land
19:03victorious,
19:04you missed a landmark moment
19:05in live television.
19:07After a few minutes
19:07on stage,
19:08the La La Land
19:09producers announced
19:10there was a mix-up
19:11and Moonlight
19:12had actually won.
19:13Host Jimmy Kimmel
19:14jokingly blamed
19:15Steve Harvey,
19:16but it was apparently
19:17PWC accountant
19:18Brian Cullinan
19:19who handed Beatty
19:19the wrong envelope.
19:20The second you will
19:21give that award out
19:23you shred the other card.
19:24While the crews
19:25from La La Land
19:26and Moonlight
19:26both acted graciously,
19:28the fiasco
19:29rocked Hollywood
19:30like never before.
19:31What makes this moment
19:32even more surreal
19:33is that Bojack Horseman
19:34totally saw it coming.
19:36Okay, now where's the...
19:38The...
19:38Uh-oh.
19:39Could have sworn
19:40it was right here.
19:412018
19:41James Franco
19:43silences Tommy Wiseau
19:44the 75th Golden Globe Awards.
19:47Tommy Wiseau
19:48supposedly kept the room
19:49running for two extra weeks
19:51to qualify for
19:52Academy Award consideration.
19:54Needless to say,
19:55his cult classic
19:55received no love
19:56from the Oscars.
19:57About a decade
19:58and a half later though,
19:59Wiseau got to attend
20:00the Golden Globes
20:02when the disaster artist
20:03picked up
20:04multiple nominations.
20:05After James Franco
20:06won the award
20:07for his portrayal
20:07of Wiseau,
20:08he kindly invited him
20:10to come up
20:10on stage.
20:14As Wiseau
20:15tried grabbing
20:16the microphone,
20:17Franco playfully
20:18pushed him aside.
20:19He probably wanted
20:20to avoid
20:20an awkward moment,
20:21but silencing Wiseau
20:23was ironically
20:23awkward in itself.
20:25Had he gotten to speak,
20:26Wiseau claims
20:26he would have encouraged
20:27people to love each other.
20:302019
20:30Emma Stone
20:31apologizes
20:32the 76th Golden Globe Awards. Hollywood has made great strides for diversity in recent years
20:39with films like Crazy Rich Asians. However, that doesn't undo the mistakes that the industry was
20:44still making only a few years earlier. Co-hosting the Golden Globes, Sandra Oh confronted the
20:59problematic casting of Ghost in the Shell, which enlisted Scarlett Johansson over an Asian lead,
21:04and Aloha, which starred Emma Stone as a captain who's supposed to be part Chinese and Hawaiian.
21:16Stone was in attendance that night, having been nominated for the favorite. Although the camera
21:21didn't cut to her, Stone could be heard shouting, I'm sorry, in the distance.
21:29American lead since Ghost in the Shell and Aloha.
21:35The joke itself is biting, but having Stone present elevated the moment to another level
21:42of hilarious awkwardness. 2020, Ricky Gervais doesn't care. The 77th Golden Globe Awards.
21:49After a four-year absence, Ricky Gervais returned to host the Golden Globes for what he claimed would
21:55be his last time. As such, Gervais didn't care who he offended. Not that he ever cared that much to
22:01begin with.
22:01You'll be pleased to know this is the last time I'm hosting these awards, so I don't care anymore.
22:09I'm joking. I never did.
22:11Gervais' shots at Joe Pesci and Martin Scorsese's height could be seen as nice compared to his jokes
22:16about the movie Cats. Gervais took no prisoners, and we're not just talking about Felicity Huffman,
22:22Jeffrey Epstein and Harvey Weinstein. Remember, they're just jokes. We're all gonna die soon,
22:28and there's no sequel. So, yeah, remember that. He called out all of Hollywood for the lack of
22:36diversity, media giants taking over everything, and hypocritical celebrities using their acceptance
22:41speeches to push political agendas. Gervais received plenty of awkward looks, although Tom Hanks easily
22:48gave us the most meme-worthy reactions. 2021. Ending with Best Actor was a big mistake.
22:55The 93rd Academy Awards. After Anthony Hopkins won Best Actor at the BAFTAs, it appeared the late
23:01Chadwick Boseman might not be the Oscar frontrunner.
23:04What I care about bad luck? You talking something. I ain't had no bad luck all my life, couldn't get
23:11no worse. What the hell I care about some bad luck? Hell, I eat it every day for breakfast.
23:15At this point, the Oscar producers should have reconsidered saving Best Actor for last.
23:19They stayed the course, however, hoping to end with a heartfelt speech from Boseman's widow,
23:25Taylor Simone Ledward. Well, an absent Hopkins one.
23:28And that's it. So that was it. That's how the show ended. And of course, Twitter exploded
23:33with how Chadwick was robbed. Whoever you think gave the better performance,
23:37abruptly ending on this note was uncomfortable for everybody, especially Boseman's family and
23:43Hopkins, who subsequently recorded a speech. And at 83 years of age, I did not expect
23:49to get this award. I really didn't. And I'm very grateful to the Academy and thank you.
23:56It'd be one thing if the Academy acknowledged that this was a misfire. Instead, co-producer
24:01Steven Soderbergh doubled down, saying, quote,
24:04if Boseman were to win and his widow were to speak on his behalf, there would be nowhere to go
24:09after that. 2022, The Pursuit of Slappiness, the 94th Academy Awards. It was the slap heard
24:18round the world, except the censored parts.
24:20The feed goes silent, and so does the audience after Will Smith takes a swing at Chris
24:25Rock on stage at the Oscars. The 2022 Oscars took a turn after Chris Rock compared Jada
24:33Pinkett Smith's shaved head to G.I. Jane. Since Pinkett Smith has alopecia, nobody would have
24:38blamed Will Smith if he called out Rock on social media. Instead, Smith literally took matters into
24:44his own hands, slapping Rock in front of 16 million viewers. Things immediately turn sour as he takes
24:51to the stage, slapping Chris straight across the face. Smith essentially confirmed that this wasn't
24:58a bit, as he cursed Rock out. It was hard to move past this display, especially since Smith later won
25:05Best Actor, describing himself as a, quote, vessel for love. Smith has released an apology, but what
25:11should have been the pinnacle of his career will now be remembered for one little fight.
25:172023, Ariana DeBose Wraps, the 76th British Academy Film Awards.
25:32Ariana DeBose is an immense talent. We would never dispute that. When the Hamilton alum opened the 76th
25:39annual BAFTAs, she paid tribute to the women nominated for awards that night. While the
25:43performance was vocally electric and high energy, it was DeBose's rapping that really made headlines.
25:56There are really so many elements at play that make this performance so awkward. For one,
26:02DeBose is out of breath through the whole rap. Then there's the awkward lyrics. Finally, cutting to the
26:08female nominees looking confused is just the icing on the cake.
26:12One of us is here alone. All these queens, we need a bigger throne. How's about to,
26:16the vibe is strong. Be true to you. You can't go wrong.
26:202024, Joe Coy's Monologue, the 81st Golden Globes.
26:25Her portrayal of the queen was so good, Prince Harry called her for it and asked her for money.
26:31Like I said, I didn't write all these.
26:33Look, the Golden Globes hosting gig is a tough job. Whoever agrees to take it on will forever be
26:38criticized for not being named Ricky Gervais, Amy Poehler, or Tina Fey. That being said, the reception
26:43to Joe Coy's hosting work in 2024 was low by any standards. His monologue in particular was
26:49criticized for being unfunny, as well as receiving accusations of having sexist jokes.
26:54Oppenheimer is based on a 721-page Pulitzer Prize-winning book about the Manhattan Project.
27:01And Barbie is on a plastic doll with big boobies. To make matters worse, he also threw blame onto his
27:08joke writers when one of his punchlines didn't land. While many comedians came out to defend Coy,
27:14the hosting job didn't quite boost his career in the way that he may have hoped.
27:18Yo, I got the gig 10 days ago. You want a perfect monologue? Yo, shut up. You're kidding me, right?
27:27Slow down. I wrote some of these and they're the ones you're laughing at. Look.
27:312025. Emilia Perez songwriters try to conduct a sing-along, the 97th Academy Awards.
27:52Jacque Odia's crime thriller musical Emilia Perez was extremely divisive when it was released in 2024.
27:58Filmmakers and industry professionals sung its praises, while general audiences on the other hand
28:03were more negative towards the film. By the time the 97th annual Academy Awards came around,
28:08the film had largely lost much of its momentum as a front-runner for the awards.
28:28After winning for Best Original Song for El Mal, songwriters Clément Zuccol and Camille gave their
28:34acceptance speech before beginning to excitedly sing the film's title. Their singing fizzles out when it
28:40becomes clear that the audience of their peers isn't exactly singing back.

29:002026. Is that Jim Carrey? The 51st Cesar Awards.
29:12Oh, bonsoir.
29:14Accepting an honorary Cesar at the French awards ceremony, comedian Jim Carrey stunned everybody,
29:19looking nearly unrecognizable as he got on stage to present his speech.
29:23Carrey has been largely absent from the spotlight in recent years,
29:26with roles in films and red carpet appearances being more of a rarity after announcing somewhat
29:31of a soft retirement in 2022. Nevertheless, Carrey's appearance has been the talk of the town since
29:36accepting the Lifetime Achievement Award in February 2026, with people raising theories
29:41ranging from him using a stand-in to it all being an elaborate prank. In reality, it's likely just
29:47a lot of cosmetic work.
