00:19hi everybody and welcome to this latest kickstarter update for divinity original sin 2 we have
00:24lots to talk about today because we are going to be talking about what exactly is divinity
00:29origin to the definitive edition we'll talk about the details of that we will talk about
00:33the grandest job opportunity of a lifetime so be sure to check that out and we're going
00:38to look at because i've got some awesome things to show to you uh yes we'll talk about you
00:44but you have to wait okay so uh without any further ado let's start flashing around the
00:49office because there's really a lot of content to cover let's go all right so i'm here with
00:54nick who is our systems designer and nick you've been looking at the analytics that we've been
00:58getting from players who've been playing the game for some time now and uh you saw certain
01:02problems and things that we needed to fix and so you spent quite a lot of effort in addressing
01:06those so what exactly is it that you you've been doing right so we were collecting a lot
01:10of data and we were reading a lot of forum posts uh from our players and we found some legitimate
01:15problems especially in the late game where the pacing got a bit stale so we revamped the gold curve
01:22and the speaker from a second act onwards yeah and we also uh rebalanced armor in all the fights
01:29so we also introduced a story mode and uh how exactly does that work actually so story mode is for
01:35players who want to focus on the dialogue and the atmosphere and spend a little bit less time in
01:40in combat so it's it's a more casual uh difficulty mode below explorer and you can change whenever you
01:47once yes at any time you can switch between story explorer and uh classic mode okay and that's
01:52typically the thing you would do if a combat is too hard or you didn't manage to do your party
01:55was
01:56if it's too easy for you if you feel like you're gonna get hard yeah yeah you can bump it
02:00up a bit
02:00and see how it goes okay thank you well speaking of combat uh we've also had a look at several
02:06combats
02:06in the game and uh edward who is our combat designer uh had a say in that and uh let's
02:11have a talk with
02:12him and see what kind of things he's been doing so edward what have you been doing for a definitive
02:17edition i worked on a number of fights like about eight or ten and i uh i remade them completely
02:23so
02:23that they're better and also i added new fights for instance in kem's garden yeah now you're gonna
02:28you're gonna have a surprise if you go there so we worked the the kraken in the in the harbor
02:32scene
02:33completely because i i found it i always thought it was a bit underwhelming that you see the kraken
02:37like really emerge from the sea like this and then just just go back into yeah and you couldn't
02:43you couldn't fight the kraken right now you can exactly now you can which is really cool we made
02:48an entire new kick that kraken's ass and make it go away the kraken is a fight that you're gonna
02:54find when you hit act 3 when you get the city of arcs and there's been quite a lot of
02:58changes in act 3
02:58also at the story front and to talk about those uh we're gonna pass by farang and kevin so let's
03:05go and
03:05have a look at what they have to say give me a second so farang uh you've been uh working
03:13on some
03:14of the level design changes that we've done for uh definitive edition uh but you've also been handling
03:19the new tutorial so tell us a little bit about that yeah that's true so um basically uh we noticed
03:24from uh pax and all the uh events that we did that people were actually uh you know there was
03:29a lot of
03:30information and game mechanics coming at them at the same time so uh we decided to add an extra deck
03:34with some rooms that have some gameplay in there that gradually introduced the mechanics of the
03:39game so that you're not really overwhelmed as a player yeah and we also linked that to the story
03:42that's absolutely true yeah new characters in there yeah so uh that meant obviously that we since we
03:48voice recorded everything that we had to do new voice recordings but that's not the only thing we
03:51voice re-voice recorded because we did like uh if i'm not mistaken there was over 100k words
03:56of changes and text yeah we had to re-record a lot of stuff and uh we also adjusted stuff
04:01and
04:01put the tutorial things in there set me free and i'll set you free uh we do it through this
04:07this
04:07is our uh voice recording tool we call it vrm for uh short um we're still recording we're doing
04:12pickups and this accurately shows the percentage of uh lines we still have left and it gets updated
04:17daily by the recording studio so this is so they're seeing the same view exactly this is literally
04:21what they're seeing in the studio and uh yeah we can just uh work around with this really handy to
04:26get stuff going okay cool thank you well let's uh go to kevin and uh actually talk a little bit
04:32about what's in those lines that are being re-recorded thank you far so kevin hello hi uh we're talking
04:38about uh the change that we're making the definitive edition of the original version of original sin 2
04:44and i've been talking up the amount of change that we've been doing yeah that we're doing to um
04:51uh arcs which is the last part of the game and you've been working heavily together with the
04:55scripters on uh changing the lines yes and that we're there so tell us a little bit about the change
05:00you guys did uh so a lot of it has to do with character motivation who is the bad guy
05:04who is it
05:04exactly that you're chasing after trying to do this without uh spoiling anything which is a little harder
05:09than i expected uh so so that was a big part of it just making sure that people understood exactly
05:14what they were up to um exactly what everybody's motivations were whether it was your character's
05:19motivation or whether it was just the motivation of people around you some of that also involved
05:24beast's story in in act three his story wasn't really coming together as well as we thought it
05:30should so we took the opportunity to sort of revamp beast um get more moments in there um in arcs
05:37that he could participate in as she had said then i'm told justinia came to express her best wishes
05:43for the bride and her father and you also did work on the end game yeah the end game um
05:48i can't say
05:49it's been fully rewritten but it's been largely rewritten um it's a lot more reactive to the
05:54decisions that you made before that and that includes the the the epilogue you know the things
05:58that when the game's winding down um you still get a chance to sort of tie up some loose ends
06:04and i think we made those loose ends a lot tighter all right cool well thanks for that uh we
06:10we won't
06:11spend too much time talking about because we have spoiler alert things coming up and i need to go talk
06:16to
06:16to the programmers because they too have been working very hard on the definitive edition
06:20and the modifications that they've been making will have a big impact also on the pc version so let's
06:26go and chat with them hi bert bert is our technical director and uh yeah well uh tell me what
06:33you're
06:34doing i'm having a look at the current state of our performance on one of the consoles okay what are
06:38the bars the bars uh tell me how much time is spent on certain pieces of of the code so
06:44for example i see
06:45a part which which is physics here like plot simulation i can see how much time it takes on
06:49which course it's running and so these are different course these are different threads running on the
06:53course on on the console so then i can see which parts of the code are being waiting on something
07:00else
07:00or what is not that efficient yet so one of the things that i like about what you guys are
07:05doing is
07:05the little tools that you build to make your jobs easier you know uh like uh well actually this thing
07:10here which uh boss is doing uh he's just fast playing the game i guess yes he's testing the
07:15streaming actually so he's verifying if the streaming is fast enough uh if you can keep the bandwidth low
07:20enough to make sure that everything gets streamed in on time and uh you also made a really cool tool
07:25to check the memory in the game and the frame rate actually yes we have an internal tool here that
07:29we're using a lot yeah so this means that um we start every night hi joko by the way hi
07:34every night the
07:35consoles uh take the latest version that was built from the build server it goes through to the test
07:41suite going over the levels in in a in a systemic way so that's vein floating over the world yeah
07:46it
07:46just goes over the world line by line so we can also see over in 2d on top of the
07:51world so there
07:52you can see we have like our range is is now around 30 fps so everything is green so we
07:57hit our 30 fps targets
07:58everywhere which is really good which is good yeah cool all right thank you um we haven't finished yet
08:05because we still have a bunch of changes that we've been doing and that is uh we have uh bobby

08:17getting high on your own supply okay yeah i i'm gonna do it so this is bobby's vinyl record that
08:25was made with the music of divinity originals into it's an awesome edition and you get this really
08:30this is the gold edition this is the gold one it's pretty good it's got b from bobby
08:35uh we're here to talk about the the definitive edition uh and the changes that has been done
08:42absolutely as a matter of fact we just finished a really exciting improvement in the music uh i believe
08:47you remember the moment when we were discussing where would be the best place to play your origin
08:52theme music yeah and i completely forgot that the best place actually was lady vengeance itself does
08:58that mean that if i'm red prince and i go to the lady vengeance i will hear red princess tea
09:03exactly and
09:04very cool so that's going to be in definitive edition it's going to be in the definitive

09:12edition available now you can go and get it well it's actually it's very limited i think there's not
09:17that many left yeah so and it also contains the that's the main theme right so these uh i believe

09:25all right so um that should give you a overview of uh the things that are coming to definitive edition
09:33there's thousands of changes that we've been doing uh we already talked in the previous update
09:37about uh ui changes that have been coming so uh and also uh everything related to journal which
09:43is a massive update for us because we spent a lot of work on that uh so all in all
09:47when you are going
09:48to get this version in your hand you will hopefully think uh yes this is the definitive edition
09:54edition so i have more no not you laura not yet okay your time is coming um we are expanding
10:02as you
10:03may know larian studios consists of four studios we have one in gen belgium we have one in dublin
10:08ireland one in st petersburg russia and one in quebec city canada and all four of these teams
10:14are currently hiring because we are working on some very cool new games that we haven't announced yet

10:57so why have i been walking around the entire day with a squirrel following me well sir laura and his
11:04fantastic steed is the mini companion that we are offering as a free dlc for people who buy
11:10uh the definitive edition before it actually releases and obviously that includes all of you
11:15so you're gonna get it uh also so uh to talk about sir laura uh i have here zoe who
11:21animated sir laura
11:22and i have gg who wrote the first dialogue of sir laura and steven who is not here uh but
11:29who wrote
11:29the rest of the dialogue so we think about you steven when we're talking about sir laura okay guys
11:33well just explain who is sir laura so um sir laura is a squirrel knight yeah and he uh together
11:41with
11:41his uh trusted steed quircus um is on a quest um to stop the coming of the great acorn because
11:49of the
11:49great acorn comes if he will uh ravage the world yeah so you animated him what was the coolest animation
11:55you did for him um the coolest was probably the idol that i made okay and what does that do
12:02and he basically just um slides down his back and does a spin so do anybody have pet pal to
12:09talk to
12:09him you do oh man i mean if i don't have pet pal i don't have no no well actually
12:13no we took that
12:14into account so just by communicating a lot of eeps and eeps actually uh still follow you around if you
12:21like and if at any point in the game you decide to to get pet pal you can still start
12:26talking to him
12:26then and he will still um introduce himself you know full well who i am you silly old cat the
12:32great
12:32salora and so does that guy have like a story arc he does have a story which i'm not going
12:39to spoil but
12:40it is um it is very much i guess the most impressive story arc ever given to a squirrel well
12:45i mean people
12:46played the first original synth i should remember that there was actually um a story of a great acorn
12:52coming remember all those squirrels that you talked to if you have pet pass anyway so can we recruit
12:56him zoe yeah there you go so now he's following you and what what happens in combat actually in combat
13:02he does not participate basically he kind of recruits us as his um shield is what he calls us and
13:08so
13:08we can we keep him safe oh we have to keep him safe on top of it you would have
13:12me use this giant for a
13:15shield all right cool okay great well thank you guys so uh that was it for today uh we
13:22we talked about the definitive edition we talked about uh sir laura we talked about um
13:28the jobs at larian uh and uh i think that it's going to be it for today
