00:01Wow, what?
00:02Hello.
00:03Hello there.
00:04Randy, I wish you luck.
00:06I really do.
00:11Hello, my friends,
00:11and welcome back to PlayStation Underground.
00:13On today's show,
00:14we are playing Sword Art Online Fatal Bullet,
00:16which is coming to PS4 on February 23rd.
00:19I am joined by Cyrus and Randy from Bad Night Namco.
00:21Gentlemen, welcome to the program.
00:22Hey.
00:23How's it going, Ryan?
00:24It's good to see you again.
00:25Great to be here.
00:26It's been a while since some Gundam recordings that we had.
00:29Yeah, now we're back with a new game,
00:32Sword Art Online Fatal Bullet.
00:34It's coming out February 23rd.
00:37Really, really awesome Japanese RPG from the Sword Art Online
00:43franchise.
00:45And Randy to my left over here is the brand manager on the title,
00:48and he is absolutely running through this map right now.
00:54Randy, I think that's Cyrus saying you should slow down
00:57and take your time and take in the sights.
00:59How is this different from a standard RPG,
01:02and where does it fit in in the Sword Art Online universe?
01:05Do you want to answer that?
01:06Yeah, sure.
01:06So this is the fifth game in the video game franchise.
01:11It introduces a lot of firsts for the series as well.
01:13So as you can tell, this is a third-person shooter,
01:16something that hasn't been shown in the previous video games.
01:20in all the other Sword Art Online video games,
01:24usually you were using a bunch of different weapons that kind of
01:31circulated around melee weapons.
01:33So you had swords, you had pole arms, you had axes, stuff like that.
01:37Were there actual nunchucks?
01:39Exactly.
01:39I don't know.
01:39That's subject to change.
01:40No, there weren't.
01:41But you can make a suggestion to Bandai Namco community team.
01:47If you guys could pass that along.
01:49I'll send that in.
01:49Yeah.
01:49Nunchucks. Okay.
01:51But in this game you actually have the option to do both from melee
01:55weapons to a bunch of different types of artillery from rifles to
02:00shotguns to pistols.
02:02But you also have the melee weapon options as well like a photon sword.
02:07Awesome.
02:07Which Kirito is known for in the Gun Gale series.
02:12He actually has this photon sword and he's able to deflect all these
02:15bullets which you can do in the game as well.
02:17Yeah.
02:17I think that's an important kind of anchor point that we should go
02:20through.
02:20If folks aren't familiar with Sword Art Online, obviously this is a
02:23huge anime franchise.
02:25Right.
02:25You know, very well loved to a lot of people.
02:27But the third arc in the story is kind of set in this sort of,
02:33I want to say like a projectile-based MMORPG, right?
02:38Right.
02:38We're kind of in the third arc of the anime.
02:40That's where this game is set, correct?
02:43Right.
02:43Exactly.
02:44And one of the big things about this game, Randy had alluded to it
02:49earlier about this game having a lot of firsts, is that you're actually
02:53your own created custom character in this one.
02:56In all the other Sword Art games, you were really following Kirito's
03:01story because as we all know, if you are a Sword Art fan like myself,
03:07Kirito was always the hero of the story.
03:10Oh, absolutely.
03:10Every single day it revolved around Kirito.
03:13You're saying every single day was Kirito Day?
03:15Every single day was Kirito Day.
03:16All day.
03:17All day every day.
03:18Right.
03:19But in this one you get to create...
03:20But not today.
03:21But not today!
03:22We're here!
03:24In this one you get to create your own custom character and all of your
03:28choices actually will determine what type of story you're going to have.
03:35Awesome.
03:35And then tell me this, if someone has not kept up with the Sword Art Online
03:39franchise, and I think this was actually my question in our last recording for
03:43Sword Art, can they kind of jump in here and get a sense of it since they're
03:47playing, you are playing kind of yourself as your created character.
03:50So I feel like that's kind of a fresh start for folks, right?
03:53Yeah, definitely.
03:54You want to speak to that?
03:55Yeah, definitely.
03:56Because it revolves around you, it's great because you get to learn about
04:00everything within the world and then you get to meet all the familiar
04:04characters and they give you a pretty good background to who everybody is.
04:08Okay. Good. Very good.
04:09And I like that the battle system already seems very, very, you know,
04:14kinetic and action oriented.
04:15So that's a fun departure from some other RPG styles.
04:19Nice little refreshing change of pace.
04:21Yeah. There's a very...
04:22Oh, you're slipping and sliding.
04:24You're going all over the place, Randy.
04:25Watch out.
04:26Randy, you are really good at this game, I have to say.
04:29Maybe it's because you work at the company.
04:32There's a lot of really dynamic gameplay elements in Fatal Bullet that are
04:37newly introduced to the series.
04:38Like you just saw, there's this little sliding shot that you can do which
04:42allows you to slide under your opponents, slide under these robotic
04:45enemies that you're fighting and get to the other side and then kind of
04:49switch up your style of gameplay.
04:52Randy hasn't shown too much of it yet.
04:54But there's also this technique that you have or this tool that you have
04:59called the UFG.
05:00It stands for the Ultimate Fiber Gun.
05:03Heck yeah. Here it is.
05:05And that will actually allow you to grapple onto different surfaces and basically
05:11grapple from side to side, get to different high spaces so that you can
05:15snipe somebody.
05:16So there's a lot of really cool dynamic elements in this game to really leverage,
05:22to show whatever type of gameplay you want to show.
05:26And it looks like there's some grenade play as well at work here.
05:29So that's fantastic.
05:30I don't know if you guys are at liberty to speak a little bit about the more RPG systems,
05:36the leveling up, the items, the unlocks.
05:39I mean, is that something you guys can speak to?
05:41How does that fit in?
05:42Yeah.
05:42Let me take down this guy real quick.
05:45And then I can show you right here.
05:46You're like, I'm a little busy right now.
05:48We don't want you to be too worried about your gameplay, Randy.
05:53You are really doing things.
05:54So, yeah.
05:55Like most RPGs, you can gain character points and you can put them
05:59towards different abilities.
06:01And that kind of dictates your class per se.
06:04So if you want to be like more of an assault or more of like a tank,
06:07you can basically control how you progress your character.
06:12Right. Absolutely.
06:13I like how your party is just rapidly talking to each other as we are
06:17going through the stats.
06:19They had no time to waste in that conversation.
06:22Yeah.
06:23That's great.
06:23Do you want to walk a little bit through like the are these all buffs
06:26and debuffs next to the party list right there?
06:28Yeah.
06:29So next to the party list, actually, if you want to speak on that.
06:33It's up to you.
06:34Oh, yeah.
06:35The thing in the right-hand corner that's highlighted yellow is your gadgets.
06:39So here you'll have your first aid kit, your grenades,
06:43and other abilities there.
06:45And then you can switch the pallet here and turn it into basically
06:49your weapon specials.
06:51So each weapon class has its own set of special skills that you actually get
06:55to customize.
06:56Oh, fantastic.
06:56So like the one sliding one that I had here was for my assault rifle.
06:59But if I switch over to my photon sword, they have different special abilities.
07:04Awesome.
07:05For example, what's the strategy to taking out those shield automatons?
07:10I don't know how to say that.
07:12Doesn't matter.
07:13You just need to slice them up with your photon sword.
07:16Yeah.
07:17But yes.
07:17Those are buffs to the side of the characters above that pallet that you see there.
07:24And your characters or your allies are going to be buffing themselves as well as your other
07:30teammates throughout the entire map, throughout the entire mission.
07:34And Randy, I don't know if you want to show as well, you can send commands to your team in
07:40case you
07:40wanted them to prioritize healing or focus on support or not attack something.
07:45Do not attack.
07:46Do not attack.
07:47That can be useful for being able to get certain items from different enemies.
07:53Actually, your ultimate fiber gun has a really, really cool little special technique where if
07:59you're able to hit your opponent with the ultimate fiber gun, you can steal an item from them.
08:05So that allows you to get a lot of really rare items as well.
08:09That is my jam.
08:10Just go around hitting everybody with ultimate fiber gun and stealing stuff.
08:15Is that what you're going to be doing in this game?
08:17I mean, probably.
08:18You know, in RPGs, when there's a thief class, that's always a guilty pleasure for me
08:23because I like to play a traditional hero.
08:25But if you're telling me that I can be a hero and also get sweet loot along the way,
08:29I'm kind of into it.
08:31But, yeah, I love how much there is going on here.
08:34And like the other Sword Art games, you know, we're kind of playing in a,
08:37it's sort of a simulated MMO.
08:39I mean, that's part of the crux of the story is that all these characters are playing an MMO.
08:43So what you're seeing here are the avatars of those characters from, you know,
08:47in their real life and they're playing in game.
08:49Right.
08:50Yeah.
08:51Go ahead, Cyrus.
08:51I just wanted to make a quick comment about Randy's avatar in this game.
08:56Yes.
08:57That mohawk.
08:58Looks exactly like him.
08:59Looks exactly like Randy if you haven't seen him in real life.
09:02But that mohawk is so sweet, Randy.
09:05I don't know how you did that.
09:07It's pretty cool.
09:07You can put in highlights in your customized character's hair.
09:10That is so cool.
09:11Only the finest mohawk for Randy.
09:15But yeah, like you were saying, there are, when you jump into this game, you really are playing the avatars
09:22of these characters.
09:24Right.
09:24For example, you know, Kareha, one of your teammates, is really sitting at her computer, sitting in her house with
09:31a VR headset on and jumping into this world.
09:35Right.
09:35And that's why I love this game so much in this series because I can see that happening in our
09:41lives very soon.
09:44And I'm a big Sword Art fan, so this game is truly something that I've been waiting for for a
09:50long time as well as a lot of these fans.
09:53You're saying Sword Art predicts the future, huh?
09:56I'm saying that give it two years.
09:58Give it a couple more years.
09:59Two years.
10:00Two years is an aggressive timeline for full mental immersion in a game.
10:04I will call you.
10:04I will call you when it happens.
10:05Just hit me up on Twitter and be like, told you, I'm fully immersed.
10:11I'm messaging you from the Sword Art servers.
10:16So what are you doing right now, Randy?
10:18It looks like one of your characters is down.
10:20Oh, no.
10:20My Arphasis is down and I don't want to leave anybody behind.
10:23Yes.
10:24Going back together.
10:25No Arphasis left behind.
10:26And what is an Arphasis?
10:28So she or he, depending on your choice, is your partner AI.
10:33And in addition to customize your own character,
10:36you get to customize her skills and abilities as well.
10:39She's kind of like a rare item within this game.
10:42So there's a lot of people after it and wanting to kind of get a hold of hers.
10:46So not every character in your party has their own AI companion.
10:50This is specific to you as the player.
10:53Oh, are you going to the final boss area?
10:56He's going.
10:56Now Randy's got to focus.
10:59But yeah, the Arphasis is actually another one of the really special things about this game.
11:04In the very beginning, you'll find her and it becomes this big thing within the story that you have this
11:12rare item.
11:14This rare NPC really.
11:17And she'll do everything from helping you with your banking system to helping you store items to also just being
11:26there to give you tips on the game.
11:28And if you are ever stuck, you can ask her for some help or ask him for some help.
11:33Wow.
11:34What?
11:35Hello.
11:36Hello there.
11:37Randy, I wish you luck.
11:39I really do.
11:40You're not supposed to talk to Randy during this part of the recording, Cyrus.
11:44I'm sorry.
11:45Oh, God.
11:45The toenails need to be clipped on this thing.
11:48It is not very good at grooming.
11:51Self-grooming habits.
11:52Look at that tail.
11:53Holy smokes.
11:54Does it say ghost pet there as in that might be a pet of somebody?
11:58I don't think that I could have that in my house.
12:01No.
12:01I certainly don't.
12:01Also, are you just trying to hint at what's to come, Cyrus?
12:05I don't know.
12:05I think so.
12:06Cyrus, I think there's just a lot going on here.
12:09I don't know.
12:09Are you guys talking about sort of the grand scope of the story?
12:13Like what's at stake here or kind of what the setup at the beginning of the story
12:18is that gets players on their journey?
12:20Yeah.
12:21Right now.
12:22Unless it's all secret.
12:23There's not too much to say there.
12:25We want to leave much of it for the fans to find out.
12:29But I will say that the Arphasis is a big component of that.
12:35Okay.
12:36There's your hint.
12:37Yeah.
12:37There's your hint.
12:38There's your hint.
12:38Jump into the game and let us know if you enjoy the story on February 23rd.
12:45It's coming out so soon.
12:47Yeah.
12:47At the time of this recording, that is like really perilously close.
12:52So I don't want to ask Randy and Cyrus, I don't know if you can speak to this,
12:55but there's that power up on the top left that says 41 right now.
12:59Is that something that I need to know what's going on there?
13:01So those are your medals?
13:03Oh, Randy's going to talk.
13:04Randy just jumped in.
13:05I'm going to try to do both.
13:05I'm going to try to do both.
13:05But those are tied to your medals.
13:07And you gain medals by doing specific abilities and specials within the game.
13:11So like if one of my characters will heal themselves,
13:14I can give them encouragement points and that raises up the percentage.
13:17Okay.
13:18And by getting the percentage up to 100%,
13:20it allows your weapon to gauge another special.
13:24As you can see it, the little square box is starting to go up.
13:28Yes.
13:28And once that's full, you'll get to see a special ability.
13:31Okay.
13:32And those encouragement tactics have actually been a theme within the Sword Art games.
13:38You've always been able to kind of encourage your teammates and your allies
13:44in order for them to know what they're doing is the right thing to do.
13:49And that helps just build camaraderie with your team.
13:51It also allows you to get certain items or certain power-ups.
13:55What just happened?
13:56Did he yell at you and stun you?
13:58He screamed so hard.
13:58Wow.
14:01That's like some of my family members.
14:02They just yell so loud.
14:03You're just brought to your knees in fear.
14:07I hope your family members are watching because they might be upset.
14:10I'm going to send it to them now and it will be like a sub-tweeting.
14:15I like at least that you have enough room in this giant room to move around
14:20and get some good work in on this ghost pet.
14:22Yeah.
14:23Ghost pet's got laser tail.
14:25Randy, did you know about the laser tail?
14:28Sadly, I did.
14:29I still ran into it.
14:31Still.
14:32But you almost got that power up to 100%.
14:34Watch out.
14:34What's really cool about this game, just going back to the idea of it being set in an MMO,
14:43is that there are all these little things on the screen that remind you that this is an MMO, right?
14:49Like the little text box in the left-hand corner, you'll see that you're getting this action log,
14:56and it's constantly telling you what's going on in order for you to have an idea of what just happened
15:03or what you need to do next, what your allies are doing.
15:06So there's really a lot to take in at all times in this game if you really want to be
15:11that technical with it.
15:12No, absolutely.
15:13That's such a classic MMO thing, isn't it?
15:16The dialogue to the chat or action log in the corner.
15:19That's great.
15:20Right.
15:21You see that and I think that a lot of the MMO players just immediately recognize that and it brings
15:27them into that theme.
15:29And you love it because this is what we're all trying to get into in two years when Sword Art
15:36Online is real life.
15:36When we're all plugged into the real Sword Art Online.
15:39And Randy, I see that you're attacking a certain part of his body or at least trying to.
15:45Is that a theme in the game that there are certain aspects of the enemy characters that you kind of
15:53need to focus on in order to really succeed?
15:57Yeah.
15:57I mean most of the enemies have some type of weak spot.
16:00It's up to you to kind of find it.
16:03Laser tail to the face.
16:05Find it and then just take advantage of it.
16:08Yeah.
16:09We actually did a live stream on this game a little while ago.
16:13And we'll be doing another one on launch day or on the day before launch.
16:18But with that enemy that we were facing off, the location that you had to hit was on his back.
16:26So that sliding shot we would use in order to go underneath the legs and then hit the back before
16:33he would turn back around.
16:34Easy there.
16:35You guys ready for this?
16:36Action star.
16:37Yeah.
16:37What are you about to do?
16:38What are you going to do?
16:39Special.
16:39What?
16:40Oh snap.
16:41What's going on?
16:42Whoa!
16:45Light it up.
16:45That is a treat.
16:47Light it up.
16:48That is a treat.
16:48Sword Art Online.
16:49Sword Art Online.
16:50Fatal Bullet.
16:51Coming to you February 23rd.
16:55Oh no.
16:56Oh no.
16:57But you might.
16:58Oh, you're not dead.
16:59I thought you were dead.
17:00I'm still here.
17:01I'm still here.
17:02Still working.
17:02Doing good work.
17:03So is your special still going right now?
17:05Yeah.
17:06It's almost out.
17:07Okay.
17:08Okay.
17:09Man, oh man.
17:10That ghost pet did not stand a chance against the special.
17:12Wow.
17:13Give it up for Randy.
17:14That was impressive.
17:16I need you on my team when we go online, which we haven't actually talked about.
17:22No?
17:22This game has a lot of online functionality as well.
17:26Tell me more.
17:26Tell me more.
17:27Just like the other.
17:28I will.
17:29I will.
17:29Just like the other Sword Art games, but you can go online, play PvP, play PvE. You know,
17:35if you're losing to some boss and you want to jump in with your roommates or your friends
17:41or your enemies to show them that you're better than them at this game, you can do all of that.
17:47Yeah.
17:47You can.
17:48That's why I'll be taking down Cyrus.
17:50Oh, wow.
17:51I thought that we were going to be a team.
17:53No, no.
17:53You guys are PvP.
17:55Either great friends or mortal enemies, but there's nothing in between.
17:58That's true.
18:00Randy, can you speak to one of the online modes a little bit where you have to, I remember
18:07that you have to deal the most damage to a certain boss?
18:11Yeah.
18:12So the PvP kind of works as like a King of the Hill type mode where it's 4v4, but there's
18:17one giant enemy that you, well, both teams have to take down.
18:21And while you're shooting the enemy, you have the other opposing team shooting at you too.
18:25So it's really about strategy and communicating with your teammates and trying to get the most points.
18:30I like that we're going to end this episode on nice robo-scorpions.
18:35No greater period to the punctuation mark than a robo-scorpion in a beautiful forest.
18:41In a beautiful forest.
18:42Beautiful forest with an interesting tower structure looming off in the distance there.
18:48Yeah.
18:49I don't know if that's just set dressing or if that's part of the story.
18:52Maybe.
18:53I don't know who's saying.
18:54Nobody's saying anything here.
18:55Nobody's saying.
18:55But jump in February 23rd.
18:58Yeah.
18:58You're plugging that date hard.
19:02Cyrus and Randy, parting thoughts to the Sword Art community and to
19:06prospective gamers that might be looking to pick this one up.
19:09What do you think?
19:10You know, I think for any Sword Art fan or any RPG, JRPG fan, I think this is a great
19:16turning point for the series as it introduces a lot of new abilities and mechanics that
19:21allow you to just jump in and be your own character and be the hero of the story.
19:26Awesome.
19:27Yeah.
19:28I will say that this has the best character customization we've ever seen in a Sword Art game.
19:35and that's one of the things that people have wanted for so long within the Sword Art community and for
19:42me as well.
19:43I've been really, really excited about just how awesome the character customization is in this game because that's one of
19:50the biggest points of an MMO is to be able to show your own personality in this game.
19:56So, yeah, pick it up.
19:58We're really excited for everybody to have it.
