Videoconfronto fra le versioni PlayStation 4 Pro e PlayStation 3 di Dark Souls Remastered.
Trascrizione
00:04Hello, welcome to PlayStation Access, my name's Nathan, I'm here with Dave. Hello. Dave, this is Dark Souls Remastered. Yes
00:10it is. It's like Dark Souls, but it's been remastered. Yep, clues in the title.
00:14So people might recognise this bit, this is the swoop into the Undead Asylum, right at the beginning of the
00:19game. I was playing this on PlayStation 4 Pro. So our gameplay capture here is all 4K. The game comes
00:28out at 60 frames a second. This is a comparison video. That is unbelievable.
00:33That's the original one. That's the PlayStation 3 version, which was at 720p, which is one third of the size
00:38of the pixels. So this is just to demonstrate that what we've done to do side by side comparisons is
00:43take that and we've had to blow it up.
00:44Yes. We could have shrunk down the 4K version, but that would have made less sense. It does make less
00:49sense. And I always like to see that comparison. I like to see how many extra pixels I'm getting.
00:53So that's what you've got to bear in mind is that the PlayStation 4 Pro is putting out that much
00:57more of an image. You did this little bit of imaging because we like to see a good rat.
01:04It just seemed like a nice way to sort of, you know, directly show the comparison and because sometimes there's
01:08interesting stuff on the other side of the screen.
01:10Yeah.
01:10But yes, there'll be some of that throughout, you know.
01:13There's a focus on rats as we go through.
01:16Yes, there is.
01:17One of the things, I mean, we don't do a detail breakdown. This is really just a visual comparison, but
01:21definitely the PlayStation 4 Pro version is better at doing a range of different colors.
01:26The lighting looks much better.
01:28Yeah.
01:28You also noticed that, ooh, look, the kind of magical souls element.
01:32So there's the PS3's original sort of soul.
01:36Yeah.
01:36And then I think we're going to see the updated PS4 Pro version.
01:40New soul.
01:41Very sparkly.
01:42Souls look better on PlayStation 4 Pro, everybody.
01:45Exactly.
01:46We knew they would.
01:47The game itself, I should say, having played it, plays exactly the same.
01:51Right.
01:51And so I played, actually, so we went away. We should make the point also that we did capture on
01:55the same equipment.
01:56Ooh, this is just to demonstrate the 60 frames per second.
01:59You can see that the new one on top has got double the amount of rat movement that the bottom
02:04one does.
02:05That's what I'm looking for.
02:06I mean, you might want to rewind and watch that again.
02:08I guess that it, but there is sort of like, you know, real science involved in that, Nath.
02:12In a game of this type, those extra frames are important.
02:15Oh, man.
02:16If I was good enough at the game for those frames to be important, this would be a whole other
02:19video.
02:20Well, true.
02:20So this is a run, the section of the game which we're going to basically take bits from is the
02:26run from the beginning of the game of the Undead Asylum through the Undead Burg up to the Taurus Demon.
02:30And I waved to Solaire at the end.
02:34And I found the game.
02:37It's basically made me want to play the game again.
02:39Okay.
02:40But every time, and then I came back here and I played through the PS3 version after I kind of
02:46knocked the rust off my gameplay skills playing on the PlayStation 4 Pro version over at Bandai Namco.
02:55And I will, that's how I know there's absolutely no difference in the gameplay.
03:00I went backwards and felt no difference whatsoever.
03:04Yeah.
03:04I'm still not, you know, incredible at the game.
03:07But I did think it looked brighter.
03:10It was like going back to an old friend's house.
03:14And that friend looked great.
03:16That's good.
03:17Just as you remembered, but actually better than you remembered.
03:20And I think there's so much in the design of this game.
03:22I mean, like, I don't want to be mean and say that it looks murky.
03:25I think Dark Souls has always been known as a dark game, but there's such intricacy in the design of
03:32all the enemies, but especially the boss characters.
03:36All of the Soulsborne games are known for the kind of the grimness and the kind of the baroque kind
03:44of awful design of their bosses.
03:47And now it's, you just get to see it, not just because of the resolution boost and because of the
03:52frame rate boost, but because of the whole palette just looks a bit brighter to me.
03:58This was another example.
04:00You're going to get lots of, one of the things that Dark Souls does is in-game kind of cut
04:05scenes and they load on the fly.
04:08And so we've slowed this right down again to show you how many more frames of animation you're getting on
04:13the PlayStation 4 Pro version where the PS3 one is just standing still.
04:16because it's also loading in the next scene where you get to fly to Lordran.
04:21You know, the crow on the left, Dave, is doing all kinds of work.
04:24I know, yeah, things we didn't know possible.
04:27I mean, again, this is like maybe a slightly unfair comparison by slowing it down, but it's just to show
04:32you like scientifically what you're getting.
04:35When you see it at full speed, though, you can see it's so much smoother on the Pro than previously.
04:42I've left it up in the top left-hand corner here just so you can see that the PlayStation 4
04:47Pro version loads in quicker as well.
04:50So it dips to black, but it comes back quicker.
04:54Yeah.
04:54So if you are, you know, I mean, what does this mean for speedrun records?
04:58They've got to be separate, haven't they?
04:59Well, you know, you add up all those seconds throughout a game.
05:02You're getting yourself minutes, maybe more.
05:05I could eat a sandwich in that time.
05:07Exactly.
05:08Two sandwiches.
05:09Well, you don't want to, exactly, yeah, at the end, though, right, you want to, that's sandwich times for after
05:13the game.
05:14Yeah, or when I've found a safe place.
05:17It's just so smooth, you can really, really see how smooth everything moves.
05:21It does make a difference, and you are right, I hadn't even thought about it, to be honest, but, like,
05:25top level players will...
05:27I mean, look how far ahead the gameplay is already now, it was, you know, substantial.
05:31We're jumping in to the Crestfallen Warrior, who is a bit of a downer, Dave.
05:36He's well known for being a bit of a downer.
05:39Well, he's Crestfallen, I guess.
05:41Yeah.
05:42I mean, he is Crestfallen.
05:43I love that.
05:44I love every time we jump between PS3 back to the Pro, it's like the scales have lifted from my
05:51eyes.
05:51I know.
05:52It really is the best way to do the comparison, it's just, it makes such a difference.
05:56This is me not being great at the game.
05:59So this is, I mean, the reason that I kind of concentrated on this area, not just because
06:04it was the area we were allowed to capture, but if anyone has played Dark Souls, this is
06:09normally where the game kind of clicks for you, and this run here, there's a bonfire behind
06:14you, and this kind of run and this area of enemies will be the area where you start leveling
06:20up and you understand how to, you know, progress is about finding out which skills are useful
06:27to the build that you've chosen and then making yourself stronger and then progressing to the
06:31next area.
06:32Or, or not, because effectively leveling in Dark Souls is like your own kind of difficulty
06:37dial.
06:37But this will be familiar to anybody who, anybody who loves Dark Souls will know this
06:41area like the back of their hand.
06:43And going back to it was, again, as I said, like, like seeing an old friend who's been
06:49doing morning workouts.
06:50This will actually be my first time playing Dark Souls, Nath, although a Bloodborne, I
06:55don't want to say veteran, that I did complete it.
06:57Yeah, I know what you mean.
06:58It's weird that you can complete these games and still feel like you don't really know what
07:01you're doing.
07:01Yeah, I haven't played any Dark Souls games and I was so thrilled when the remaster was
07:07announced to know that I could play Dark Souls for the first time on my PS4.
07:10And go through the whole, you're right man, every time we jump back I do kind of go, did
07:15I really play the whole thing like this?
07:16This wasn't even deliberate, this is how closely my tactics for killing the Black Knight just
07:22haven't changed.
07:23I've obviously got this, this is what I mean about running through this area so many times.
07:27Like I must have started this game so many times.
07:29But yeah, this is me doing the same, I was a pyromancer which is basically cheating and
07:35I just throw fire at him until he goes away in both instances of the game.
07:40But you know, I have never finished Dark Souls 2 or Dark Souls 3, so I'm thinking, you know,
07:46Playstation 4 run through the whole series.
07:49It's now possible.
07:49It's on the cards, certainly.
07:51And if I'm a pyromancer through Dark Souls 1, which obviously I've chosen here, I can
07:55have the whole thing done in hours.
07:57It's really easy being a pyromancer, it's basically cheating.
08:01I thought that this next thing might be new for the Playstation 4 Pro version but apparently
08:05it's not.
08:06I took my time, took my sweet time looking over the edge, trying to line up like a drop
08:10attack.
08:11Yeah.
08:12And Taurus Demon wasn't having any of it.
08:14I saw him start to jump and I was like, I don't know what's happening so I'm going to run
08:17away.
08:19There's more, I mean this is a stupid thing, so I was going to say there's more to his
08:23face.
08:23You know, like on the Pro version there's like a little bit more kind of emotion or something,
08:28it's that extra detail that you get.
08:30That's kind of what I mean about like, I love it when games from previous generations
08:35get a new version.
08:36and this whole boss battle is basically just getting very comfortable with a very furry
08:40crotch.
08:41Yeah.
08:41That's what it's about.
08:42But yeah, when you can kind of see the work that the artists and the designers of the game
08:46have put in there and it's kind of been hidden behind the technology that we're using to play
08:50the games and then it all comes out.
08:51Yeah.
08:52It says victory achieved now.
08:54Yes.
08:55That's interesting isn't it?
08:56It's weird isn't it?
08:56Instead of you defeated.
08:57Yeah.
08:58Which is odd.
08:58Look at this, this one is my favourite.
09:00I didn't get one of the rays in this video.
09:04But yeah, look, here's Solaire.
09:06Old school.
09:07And there's new Solaire.
09:09Ping!
09:10Oh, that's nice isn't it?
09:11It's very nice.
09:12It's like taking off really dirty glasses.
09:14Hmm.
09:15New glasses, you might say.
09:17I would.
09:18I'm looking forward to seeing, you know, all these kind of vistas and stuff.
09:22Again, it's not like, it's not like a famously kind of beautiful game, Dark Souls.
09:26But the fantasy of it, it's just, I'm really excited to see it.
09:30The visuals are hugely important.
09:31So look, we're going to have probably more gameplay from the PlayStation 4 Pro version of Dark Souls Remastered.
09:35Like this video if you enjoyed it.
