00:00Grazie a tutti.
00:30I'm here with Pete Hines. Pete, great to see you.
00:32Good to see you as well, sir.
00:33We are out here in West Virginia at the famous Greenbrier. Is this a resort? I mean, this is a
00:38destination, isn't it?
00:39It's a resort. It's America's resort.
00:40And it's going to be even a bigger landmark because it is in Fallout 76. Tell me about that.
00:45It's about to get super popular. It plays a key role in our game, the game obviously being set all
00:50throughout the state of West Virginia.
00:52For those who don't know, the Greenbrier played a special role in American history, as this was the location of
00:58a very secret bunker.
01:00And it plays a key role in the game because it's a big part of the main quest and the
01:04whole idea around collecting nuclear launch codes
01:06and then bringing them to the Greenbrier, to the bunker, to launch them off and target the map wherever you
01:12want.
01:12So you get to see, hopefully, some of the Greenbrier when you play.
01:16We've had folks here playing it who immediately make a beeline for the Greenbrier, and it's amazingly authentic in the
01:24game versus what you see when you're walking around.
01:26I mean, it's a beautiful resort. Let's talk a little bit about the game.
01:29I mean, this is a very different type of Fallout in terms of the multiplayer element. Can you explain that?
01:33Well, so, you know, it is a very different kind of game for Fallout. It's a very different kind of
01:37game from what the studio is known for,
01:39which has traditionally been big, epic, single-player things.
01:43You know, it's still a role-playing game. It's still a Fallout game.
01:46But it's now a game where, rather than sharing your experiences with friends over the water cooler, you're now able
01:51to do those things in the game.
01:52So you can play by yourself if you want. You can team up with friends.
01:55You can team up with random folks that you come across and do quests, explore the world.
02:00The game is four times the size of Fallout 4, so it is an absolutely massive world to explore.
02:04A lot of diversity in terms of where you travel around the state.
02:08You're going to see, you know, the cranberry bugs and the bombed-out areas and the amusement parks and the
02:14commercial areas and industrial.
02:15So it'll feel very different as you explore around.
02:17But all of those things are going to be done with real people. There's no NPCs.
02:22So every time you see a human character, you know that's another player, and you can decide how you choose
02:27to interact with them.
02:28Are you going to trade with them? Are you going to group up to do some quests? Are you going
02:30to engage in PvP?
02:31We leave all of that up to the player.
02:33And if you don't want to do that kind of stuff, if you're worried about dealing with people, getting away
02:37from them is easy.
02:38It's kind of difficult for somebody to kill you if you don't want to fight them back because they do
02:42so little damage.
02:43And you can even just fast travel away from them.
02:45We don't do the you can't fast travel enemies or near.
02:49So we really are giving players the ability to find the experience they want to play with others or not,
02:55to fight against others or not.
02:57But ultimately, it's still at its core. It's a Fallout game.
02:59It's about being the kind of character you want to be, picking the perks that are interesting to you as
03:03you level your character up.
03:04You know, finding cool weapons, building a camp, taking over control of workshops, doing lots of things that are still
03:10going to feel very familiar to a Fallout player.
03:14Pete, you talked about playing the game, and I've certainly had a chance to have hands-on time as well.
03:18What have you seen the way that the traditional Fallout players have come in and maybe been surprised by this
03:23new experience?
03:24The thing that I think folks are most surprised about is the idea that you can be grouped up with
03:29other folks and still be playing solo.
03:32Sure.
03:32Which sounds very weird. Like, well, wait a minute, I'm in a group, so aren't we doing stuff together?
03:36But the game doesn't care.
03:37The game will allow all of you, you can have a group of up to four people, you can all
03:41go off and do your own thing.
03:42If you want, and one of the cool things is that fast travel back to your other group members is
03:48free.
03:49So if you discover locations in the world, depending on how far away it is, you'll have to pay some
03:53amount of caps.
03:54Sure.
03:55The only exceptions are if you travel back to where your camp is, or if you travel to another group
03:59member.
04:00And so what it allows you to do is have this freedom to say, my friends are going off, or
04:04these people I'm grouped up with are going off to do this quest,
04:06but I saw something interesting over here, or I want to run back to my camp and maybe repair some
04:11stuff.
04:11that you have that freedom to go do what you want and then rejoin your teammates at any time, and
04:16there's no real penalties.
04:17But again, it's that idea of all of the kinds of things you've traditionally done in a Bethesda Game Studios
04:22game
04:22that you've always wondered, you know, what would it be like if I had Larry here playing with me,
04:27or I could get my kids to join me and we could do some of this stuff together.
04:30All of those things are now possible, and the amount of content and the size of the world is such
04:35that it's just this massive open sandbox to play in and with very few people in it, right?
04:42There's only 24 people per server.
04:43So you're just, you're not seeing other people, I think, as much as folks expect, because the map is so
04:49big and there are so few people per map.
04:51Pete, thanks for your time.
04:52Thanks for having us out here at the Greenbrier.
04:55Remind us of the dates again.
04:56So October 23rd, Xbox Exclusive Beta starts for everybody, and November 14th, the full game will launch, and we will
05:03see everybody in Appalachia.
05:04We'll see you online in the Wasteland. Thank you again.
05:06Thank you.
