00:02The public is being invited to help decide the future of the Sycamore Gap Tree in Northumberland,
00:08which was illegally felled in September 2023. The National Trust has shortlisted six artists
00:15to create a new artwork from half of the tree's timber, with proposals from the North East,
00:21Devon, London, Hampshire, Sussex and Bristol. Public votes will count for 30% of the final
00:27decision, with the remainder determined by an expert judging panel. Voting runs until the 28th of
00:33March. The winner will be announced later this spring, with the final artwork expected to be
00:38completed by 2028, honouring the iconic tree's legacy.
