European Union member states on March 16 said they will discuss what can be done from the European side to keep the Strait of Hormuz open.

Their comment comes after the US administration said they are talking to seven countries about helping to secure the strait amid the US-Israeli war against Iran, calling on them to help protect ships in the vital waterway that Tehran has mostly blocked to oil tanker traffic.

00:28We are drunk in the hood there.
00:30Countries about working with us with the policing of the strait.
00:36And I think we're getting countries about the strait.
00:38If we do, that's great.
00:39And if we don't, that's great.
00:41And China, as an example, gets about 90% of it's up front or most strait.
00:48And it's nice to have other countries police that with us.
00:52And we'll help work militarily.
00:54As far as I'm concerned, we've essentially defeated Iran.
00:59I believe I'm demanding that these countries come in and protect their own territory.
01:05Because it is their territory.
01:06It's a place from which they get their energy.
01:11And they should come and they should help us protect it.
01:15You could make the case that maybe we shouldn't even be there at all.
01:19Because we don't need it.
01:20We have a lot of oil.
01:21We have been the number one producer anywhere in the world times still.
01:25We don't.
01:26At least don't know.
01:26I think it's much higher than that.
01:29But we do it.
01:30It's almost like we do it very happy.
01:33But we also do it for some very good allies.
01:36Thank you very much.
01:37Not only about Israel.
01:50We first have to discuss what the member states are willing to do in the Strait of Hormuz.
01:56And there is also discussion that there could be elements when the big fighting is over.
02:04But of course the needs to open the Strait of Hormuz are there right now.
02:10So we will discuss this today.
02:12I had talks with Antonio Guterres about whether it was possible to also have the same kind of initiative,
02:20like we had the Black Sea initiative, how to get the grain from Ukraine out.
02:27Because the closure of Strait of Hormuz is really dangerous for the oil supplies, energy supplies to Asia.
02:3585% of the oil and gas through Strait of Hormuz goes to Asian countries.
02:42But it's also problematic for the fertilizers.
02:46And if there is a lack of fertilizers this year, there's going to be also food deprivation next year.
02:56So we discussed with Antonio Guterres how to make this happen.
03:02This is my education for sure.
03:06It was so important to me.
03:08My question is to go to Japan on the IG-CQ.
03:15So it is not recorded.
03:17It doesn't mean that I didn't have a word toiration.
03:18For sure, I didn't have a word to say in Japan.
03:21I will tell you all that.
03:25For now I do not question it is...
03:26For now, our government is in the US.
03:26The U.S. on the Internet?
03:27I will tell you what I'm aware of.
03:28It is not the latest.
03:29But what that means?
03:30That is not at the point of China?
03:30And it's our solution for the people to use.
03:31The U.S.
