00:00Good day, welcome to the Automotive Dad and welcome to the 2026 Verizon SV Supervan.
00:22So the Verizon SV, unique in a few different ways.
00:25This is a through-and-through electric vehicle. It isn't an internal combustion engine which has been converted to be
00:31an internal combustion engine like things like the e-sprinter and the e-transit.
00:35From the ground up, this has been developed as an electric vehicle, but it's been developed as an electric vehicle
00:40to come with loads of amenities at factory-based spec point.
00:45Basically, you have a choice of three sizes and the L3 gives you an H2 option and then pretty much
00:53colors.
00:55That's it. As standard, these come with everything. It's not that you need to spec everything in, like other brands,
01:01and the argument is that, wait, this is actually quite expensive.
01:05Well, okay, £48,000 plus that for this L1H1 with a 48kWh battery, but if you spec a competitive e,
01:15say, Vito or e-transit to have the same amount of amenities as this does, they end up costing more.
01:24And also, this has a whole range of different ways that it's unique, and I think it's pretty good.
01:30So in this episode of the Automotive Dad, let's explore and find out more about the Verizon SV Supervan.
01:38Now, let's address the elephant in the room. Aesthetics.
01:41This is a different-looking electric vehicle.
01:45So many electric vehicles now end up kind of looking just like normal cars, that the whole, oh, that looks
01:50like an electric vehicle thing has kind of disappeared.
01:52Until now, because this, you look at it and you go, that's definitely an electric vehicle, because it's completely different
02:00to anything else that you can see on the roads.
02:03The only thing that's coming close, really, is something like a PV5, which is the only other really dedicated commercial
02:10vehicle which has the basis of an actual electric vehicle and hasn't just been converted from an internal combustion engine.
02:19Now, a lot of people liken this to a Fiat Multiplier, and I get it, because it's kind of sat
02:25back.
02:25But the bit I didn't realise is, obviously, where this is sat back, and the motors under here, and there's
02:32a lot of technology going on at the front, it's not actually a bad design when you look at it
02:35from the front on.
02:36It's quite cool.
02:37It's a bit slab-faced, but how many vans aren't slab-faced?
02:42But it makes sense why it is, because when I made a comment, the head of PR in the UK,
02:47Jamie, messaged me and said,
02:49well, the reason it's set back is so that if you have a fender bender, the van's not off the
02:53road.
02:53It stays on the road, earning people money.
02:56Because if you have a fender bender and your lights are here, your lights are damaged, you're not going back
03:00en route, you're not continuing your journey, you're done until it's fixed.
03:04Whereas if you have one in this, the light's back here, so your journey continues, so it makes sense.
03:10So whilst aesthetically it's a bit different, and when it turned up, I was a bit like, eh, it has
03:15grown on me, I do kind of get it.
03:17Still not my favourite design, but equally you can kind of respect why it's been designed like that from a
03:22practical point of view.
03:23Now the side profile is a bit more forgiving, a bit more traditional in van sense in that, well clearly
03:29it's a van, 16-inch wheels with aero hubcaps on
03:32to give you the maximum aero efficiency, reasonable sized wing mirrors, which are electric, heated, and sensors going round, as
03:41well as cameras, because this has got a 360 camera.
03:44Now, from a design point of view, there's not really anything massively impressive going on.
03:49The only impressive thing from this side view is to do with what goes on inside.
03:55Because when you open the door, there's no massive pillar here, but that's inside, we'll get to that in a
04:03minute.
04:04Basically, the side profile looks pretty reasonable and more traditional in a van sense.
04:09So the front end is the only kind of marmite part of this van, but as you get used to
04:14it, it's less marmite.
04:14Side profile, decent, a few different colour options.
04:17The only one which is free is this jade white.
04:20The rest of them are all optional colours to choose from.
04:23Now, that more traditional styling continues at the back of the van, because from the back, you wouldn't know this
04:29is anything but a conventional van.
04:32So that means aesthetically, the only bit that kind of stands out as the marmite is the front end of
04:36the van, but actually once you're more used to it, it's fine.
04:39Side profile looks like a normal van, and so does the back.
04:43Like, reasonable-sized doors, which have, like, a huge opening angle, more I'll get into when I get into the
04:48internal side, but rear parking sensors, tow bar, electrics, because you can tow, like, two tonne of weight behind this,
04:56as well as having 1,200 to 1,350 kilograms of internal payload weight, depending on the variant of van
05:02you go for.
05:02But aesthetically, this just looks like a van, and it's not really out there shouting about itself.
05:10Personally, I'd actually quite like the L3 H2 in black.
05:14That's probably the coolest-looking variant of the van you could get.
05:17But this L1 H1 in jade white just does the job, and aesthetically, it just looks reasonable.
05:24Now, when you get inside the SV, you go, well, actually, it's quite spacious, it's quite nice, good materials, good
05:32amount of buttons, good amount of technology.
05:35Well, wait a minute, there's quite a lot of technology in here.
05:37So, from the moment you get in, you are kind of drawn to the 12.3-inch infotainment screen.
05:42It has everything on there, maybe a little bit too much, whilst the buttons for the Climate R down here,
05:48to get into your seat heating controls,
05:51if you're an Apple CarPlayer, you have to swipe to get out of Apple CarPlay, then swipe to go to
05:56your heated seat,
05:57and then choose which heated seat you want, instead of just having a button next to it, which could have
06:02done everything.
06:02But actually, speaking of those heated seats, they are both heated and ventilated.
06:07And speaking of heated, heated steering wheel.
06:10All of this is standard.
06:12The seat's pretty comfortable, doesn't have lumbar support, but they are addressing that.
06:15So, in the next revision of these vans, they will do.
06:18So, as the same goes for the fact that this can only just go up and down, can't come towards
06:23you.
06:24Again, something which is going to be revised.
06:26From a family point of view, the only thing that I noticed, as in if you were using this for
06:31everything,
06:33is that realistically, you can only have a permanent middle seatbelt seat.
06:39There's no ISO fix in these vans at the moment.
06:42If you wanted to have one on the outside seat, that door is basically out of action.
06:45It is doable, because the door can still open, but it's not that advisable for anything.
06:52Like, if you were on a motorway, I wouldn't do it.
06:54If you were quickly popping to the shops, it would probably be fine.
06:56But it's not the best idea, because the seatbelt is on the door.
07:02The seatbelt is on the door because they want to give you all this space in the back, which I'll
07:05get to in a minute.
07:06So I do get it, but because of that, it means that you can't have a child seat out here
07:12that safely.
07:15If they had it on the seat, though, absolutely fine.
07:18And there's loads of space in here, enough space for the kids to walk through and get into their seats.
07:23There are cubbies pretty much everywhere, and a good size of them.
07:27I would have liked to have seen something like cup holders up here, but obviously, for whatever reason, they've decided
07:33not to do it.
07:33But there are cubbies literally everywhere, under every seat.
07:37There are even trays to pull out.
07:39This one, which I feel could be slightly more refined, gives you cup holders here, but it's a little bit
07:451990s Renault.
07:49Besides from that, this feels like a good quality interior, with a good amount of tech, a good amount of
07:55stuff at your fingertips.
07:56Yes, there's an amount that could be brought out from the infotainment, but actual buttons, good solid things, and generally,
08:05it's just quite a nice place to be.
08:07So let's go into the, well, it's not the kid zone, the work zone, because there's an awful lot to
08:13mention back there.
08:14Yes, that's right, this has no pillar here.
08:17That means that with this door open, which can basically go 90 degrees, you have a huge opening.
08:23If you were to get rid of this bulkhead, you just have the biggest open plan area ever, which means
08:29it's basically the widest opening of any van of this class that you can get.
08:34So if you need to get bigger things in through the side door, well, here's a top, top winner.
08:38Lots and lots of tie-down points.
08:42Now, internally, depending on your battery pack, if you want to go for the 67, you get more.
08:45Obviously, the 83 kilowatt hour weighs more.
08:47But if you go for the smaller battery pack, the 67, in this L1 H1 configuration, you can take 1
08:53,350 kilograms of payload weight with enough width back here to fit a Euro panel.
08:58With enough size here to, well, I don't know if you'd fit it through this door, but you might.
09:03But it's a good workable size.
09:06Because this is more of a flat design, it means it's pretty usable.
09:11Now, these rear doors have quite an impressive opening angle.
09:23Which means you can fit lots of things in here, including a Euro palette.
09:27And as you can see, in my instance, an awful lot of family things.
09:31But on top of that, at the back, you have a little area here that you can open.
09:38Not always easily, but.
09:40And by plugging into this, it effectively turns your electric van into a giant battery bank.
09:46So, in my instance, I put an air fryer in the back and went and had lunch with my son
09:51and my daughter at a different point to really explore the capabilities of the van.
09:56So, this is hugely versatile, massive to get things in and out of.
10:02No worry about catching cables on this, that and everything.
10:05A nice entry height, easy to get in and out of.
10:10Basically, well thought out.
10:11So, as a ground-up electric vehicle, this is pretty impressive.
10:16Now, let us talk everything drive in regards to the Ferrari as an SV.
10:20Because it drives quite nicely.
10:23The steering's pretty smooth, and whilst it doesn't offer, like, a full feedback, it's not totally disconnected from the road
10:31either.
10:31And is completely in comparison to other commercial vehicles out there.
10:37I'm going to put the heated steering wheel on because my hands are cold.
10:39Now, as I sit at this junction waiting for the opportune moment to use all of my power,
10:43I'll bring up the fact that this has got 231 PS, 336 newton metres of torque, which means it's not
10:51slow.
10:51Which means that, really, you only need a little bit of an opening to get going, even with weight in
10:57the back.
10:59Obviously, this has different drive modes.
11:01So, depending on what drive mode you're in, depends how much power you've got.
11:04But put it in sport, and this is pretty quick.
11:06The engine regen is also pretty reasonable.
11:09Now, the visibility when you're driving is very good.
11:11It has got a very big windscreen.
11:13And whilst, in theory, the A-pillar should be pretty blocked because they put these windows in there, it's not.
11:22And for the rest of the view that you need, you have a surround view monitor giving you everything.
11:27The only comment on that is that that reversing camera and the rest of the system is just a little
11:31bit laggy.
11:32So, it could do with a bit of a software update to get rid of that.
11:38But aside from that, from the visibility point of view on the inside, it's great.
11:42Now, drive-wise, some people have said that this gets affected by wind and the motor noise is too noisy.
11:48At certain speeds, the motor noise has noise, but it's not too over the top.
11:53And if anything, at lower speeds, it's probably better like that.
11:56Because then people can hear you coming a bit more.
11:58But it's not in your face.
12:00And wind noise-wise, this is literally comparable to absolutely any flat-sided commercial vehicle that I have ever driven.
12:08It's just the same.
12:09Now, range-wise, this being the 83-kilowatt-hour battery, they say on paper you should get 230 miles of
12:14range.
12:14And you're probably not going to see that unless you're very lucky with everything off in the peak of summer
12:20with no weight.
12:22But what you will see, quite easily, is about 220.
12:26220, so it's actually not that much less.
12:30Because this is actually a very, you get what you see van.
12:36This said 220 miles when it was at 100%.
12:40And I then drove it 120 miles, and I had 100 miles of range left.
12:45And even when I compared it to the percentage drop-down, it was working out.
12:49So what the van says it can get, generally, it can get, which is pretty impressive.
12:54And that means anywhere between 2.5 and 3.5 miles per kilowatt-hour.
12:58At the moment, I'm getting the 2.5.
13:00But that's pretty impressive for a vehicle of this size, of this nature, that can do what this can do.
13:07Now, around town, the lock on this is extremely good.
13:09And even though it's a longer, bigger vehicle, it doesn't struggle to get into places because that lock is so
13:15good.
13:16And continuing with that around town thing, you feel quite comfortable driving this around town
13:21because of the amount of interior monitors and things that are going on.
13:24The only comment would be that in car parks, if you need to fit through a tight space and there's
13:29a pedestrian around,
13:30this van really doesn't like doing that because it goes, well, there's a pedestrian there.
13:33We shouldn't be moving.
13:34So it will slam its brakes on and put the hazard lights on because it doesn't want you doing it.
13:40And if you're not expecting it, it will scare the life out of you like it did me.
13:44But the rest of the systems, they're not too in your face.
13:47Even the overspeed alert, when you do 31 miles an hour, even though you're actually doing 29 miles an hour,
13:53it's not too in your face.
13:55If you yawn, it will have a go at you and say, take a break.
13:58The driver of this van is nice.
14:00It's not super composed, but equally, I've not had any weight in the back.
14:04I've driven one of these when it's had basically a ton of payload in the back
14:07and it drives significantly better in the regards of, okay, it might not be so fast in a straight line,
14:12but the handling was really good.
14:16I mean, the tyres are 21570, I believe.
14:21So they've got a good amount of junk on them and they're pretty wide.
14:24They're not overly wide, but they're okay.
14:26So as a summary from the drive point of view, it drives nicely.
14:30So in summary, it's a pretty decent van.
14:34Aesthetically, it's not for everyone, but actually, it's not a bad-looking thing.
14:38And aside from the front end, the rest of the van is quite a practical-looking thing.
14:42The interior is well-designed, full of tech, some slightly too hidden away,
14:46but you can get past that.
14:47And also, as revisions of this van come out and software updates, things will get better and smoother.
14:54From a drive point of view, not only can this get a reasonable amount of range,
14:58especially in the 83 kilowatt-hour battery, but a good amount of performance.
15:02231 PS and 336 nm of torque is pretty good.
15:07Whilst it's not the fastest van at top end, say like 84, 85 miles an hour,
15:12it gets there pretty quickly because actually, without weight in this,
15:15you can, on a good run, see this under 10 seconds to 62, which in van terms is pretty fast.
15:21But then beyond that, the capability of this van, well, it does everything.
15:25Because not only can you fit your Euro pallet in the back,
15:27but you have a huge amount of side space.
15:29This is an ideal basis for a camper conversion.
15:33And the interior space itself in the front is good.
15:37It's family-friendly.
15:38This is a van, which isn't just a van.
15:40This is a van that can do pretty much anything you ask it to.
15:44I'd be excited to see the passenger variant, as in the one with the rear seat,
15:48as if that ever comes to the UK, because it's starting to appear around the world,
15:52but just not currently in the UK market.
15:55And basically, I'm pretty impressed by it.
15:57It's not perfect, but as electric vans go, it's incredibly useful.
16:03It's a good utility, and it's cost-effective.
16:06It's cheap to run, cheap to maintain, because it's electric.
16:09And yeah, the motor spins to 16,000 rpm, so it's basically a superbike.
16:20So it's crazy.
