Hyundai Motor today introduces IONIQ 3, a fully electric compact hatchback designed to make electric mobility intuitive, comfortable and relevant for everyday European needs. IONIQ 3 combines bold design rooted in Hyundai’s ‘Art of Steel’ philosophy, simple and easy-to-use technology and a spacious, comfortable interior. Embodying the IONIQ lineup’s mission to lead advanced electrification and connected living under Hyundai's vision of ‘Progress for Humanity,’ it is shaped by a design approach that balances simplicity, precision and material authenticity.

IONIQ 3 introduces a new “Aero Hatch” typology with a silhouette optimised for both aerodynamic efficiency and generous interior space. Its low, sleek front-end transitions into a distinctive roofline that runs straight over both front and rear occupants before accelerating downward to merge seamlessly with the rear spoiler. This geometry maximises interior roominess, delivering notable headroom and improved comfort for the rear passengers.

00:00Hi, I am Eduardo Ramirez, Chief Designer at the Hyundai Design Center in Europe.
00:05And I'm Chris McKinnon. I head up product planning for Hyundai here in Europe.
00:08And we're delighted to have you here to be able to present the latest addition to the IONIQ family, the
00:13IONIQ 3.
00:15IONIQ 3 reflects how our vision continues to evolve.
00:20We are pushing the boundaries of electric mobility through design innovation.
00:25I would like to briefly take you back to the very beginning of this project.
00:30We started the early creative phase by making simple paper models, exploring ways to express strength, tension and structure.
00:38Through this process we managed to capture the inherent tension of steel, the balance between softness and strength.
00:46And this is how our Art of Steel Design philosophy was born.
00:52We first expressed these ideas in Concept 3.
00:55And today, with IONIQ 3, this exploration becomes reality, bringing together emotion and real-world purpose.
01:04IONIQ 3 is defined by its unique aero hatch profile, a form that is efficient and spacious.
01:11It is an emotional, modern interpretation of the sporty hatchback.
01:16The sporty stance is supported by EV-specific proportions, with a low front, a flowing roof line that accelerates downwards
01:25behind the rear occupants and a vertical tailgate with an integrated spoiler.
01:30This combination creates a strong and confident appearance while maximizing interior space.
01:35In this N-line version, the black mask and open grilles reinforce this dynamic style, while the slim horizontal lighting
01:44signature emphasize the vehicle's width.
01:47The pixelated lights make a clear reference to the IONIQ identity, while the four-dot signature in the center make
01:55reference to the letter H in Morse code.
01:59And the bonnet surface seamlessly flows into the fender, expressing the natural behavior of steel.
02:07Large, clean surfaces intersect to create distinctive character lines, which express precision and tension.
02:15In the rear three-quarter view, the car is defined by three main surfaces.
02:20The side panel, the diagonal plane that rolls from the top and runs into the body side, and the rear
02:28section, which is close on the vehicle in a very short rear overhang.
02:32The rear surface incorporates the pixel lighting that connects with the two-piece rear window.
02:39In the N-line model, we have the rear spoiler that improves the aerodynamic performance in combination with the lower
02:47diffuser.
02:48Gloss black claddings and faceted, dark wheels emphasize the performance-oriented character of the vehicle.
02:56We followed a similar material-driven approach when designing the interior, defined by what we call the curve of upholstery.
03:07Inspired by the craftsmanship and comfort of contemporary furniture, soft padded surfaces gently wrap around the interior structure,
03:15creating an environment that feels warm, intuitive, and refined.
03:21Practical storage solutions include an open dashboard shelf, a dual-level center console, and integrated door pockets, enhancing everyday usability.
03:31The driver focus layout features a slim cluster positioned above the steering wheel, along with physical buttons for essential functions.
03:42This supports our principle of keeping the hands on the wheel, eyes on the road.
03:48We even added some Easter eggs, small, playful design touches, to create an emotional connection and add a sense of
03:56fun.
03:57IONIQ 3 represents a harmonious and refined expression of our art of steel and curve of upholstery philosophies.
04:05It marks an important new chapter in Hyundai's evolving design identity.
04:12The IONIQ 3 is built on E-GMP, Hyundai's proven highly efficient electric vehicle platform.
04:19We offer two battery sizes, a standard range and a long-range battery.
04:23The long-range battery has a range of up to 490 kilometers, supporting your daily commute but also allowing for
04:29longer journeys.
04:30In terms of charging, we offer fast charging of 10-80% in under 30 minutes.
04:36We also have an AC onboard charger of up to 22 kilowatts.
04:41To make the charging experience seamless and, again, easy to use, we offer plug-to-charge, the same as you'd
04:48find on other Hyundai IONIQ models.
04:51My favorite feature is the vehicle to load.
04:53This allows you to connect accessories to the vehicle's battery, such as coffee machines or charging your e-bike, whatever
05:00supports your lifestyle.
05:01So we know our customers are looking for a versatile and practical car.
05:05So look at the size of this case.
05:07Let me position it in what we call the Mega Box.
05:15It fits easily under the floor and you still have access to over 330 liters of cargo capacity.
05:21In total, you have over 440 liters, making it a very versatile car.
05:26Another area that really excites me about the IONIQ 3 is the new Playos Connect infotainment system.
05:32It's based on the Android Auto operating system.
05:35It comes in a 12.9-inch display or, as you see here, the 14.6-inch display.
05:42It's a clear and really easy to use display.
05:45So really, there are three things that I want you to remember after watching this presentation.
05:49The first thing is, it is customizable.
05:52The same as your smartphone, you set this up to your own preferences.
05:56It's really easy to use and very intuitive.
05:58We also have an app store, in addition to the integrated apps such as navigation, that will grow over time.
06:04Again, the same way that the smartphone does.
06:07We also have an AI-guided voice assist, which allows you to interact naturally with the vehicle.
06:13When you look at the layout of the instrument panel, we've set it up so it's intuitive and easy to
06:19use.
06:20We talk about hands on the wheel, eyes on the road.
06:23All the switches are within easy access.
06:26If you look at the steering wheel, we've clustered all the ADAS functionality on the left-hand side of the
06:31steering wheel,
06:31and everything to do with infotainment and telephone on the right-hand side.
06:35So one of the areas that Hyundai is praised for is the retention of physical controls.
06:40And even though we've got the large 14.6-inch screen here, we've retained critical physical controls such as temperature
06:46up and down.
06:47You can adjust the temperature without taking your eyes off the road.
06:51And as you can see, all the information is directly in the driver's line of sight.
06:56The technology is here to support the driver and to minimize distractions.
07:00So when designing the IONIQ 3, we looked at several consumer use cases, especially when you sit and charge.
07:07So we've added a feature from the other IONIQ vehicles, the relaxation seats.
07:13The relaxation seats really make for a very comfortable seating position whilst charging, and they're also either heated or ventilated.
07:21We have a heated rear seat, which is not something you would expect in this segment.
07:27We also have a number of other features from the IONIQ range and from a different class of car.
07:32We've got the dual zone climate control, we've got the available Bose sound system.
07:38It also has the interior roominess that you'd expect in a different segment.
07:43Despite its compact footprint, it has a really spacious interior.
07:47Overall, a really compelling package.
07:52Being a Hyundai, of course safety is top priority, and the IONIQ 3 is no exception.
07:59There are two technologies I'd like to highlight on the IONIQ 3.
08:02The first one is Highway Drive Assist 2.
08:05This is a technology that makes long journeys, relaxing, and supports the driver in several different cases.
08:12It supports lane changes, maintains the distance to the vehicle in front, and has been optimized to support the driver
08:18if somebody cuts in in front of them.
08:22We also have a new feature called Memory Reverse Assist.
08:25So if you've driven yourself into a tight spot, the car will memorize how you got there and help you
08:31reverse out of that tight spot.
08:33And again, these are technologies that we've added to help make the life of our drivers easier on an everyday
08:39basis.
08:41So, the IONIQ 3 brings the IONIQ formula to more customers.
08:45It offers class-leading versatility, technology, and range.
08:50I really hope you've enjoyed this preview of the IONIQ 3.
08:54Now it's time for you all to see the car in the metal.
08:58Thank you very much.
