00:00Hello, hello, and welcome back to Cars of Glasgow. I'm Thomas, and today you join me with this,
00:04the all-new Verizon SV. Verizon's super van, and you may be wondering, what is a Verizon?
00:10That is a commercial arm of Geely. You know the guys that bring you Lotus, Volvo, London taxi
00:15company. They even have their own cars known as the Geely EX5 in the Starry Eye as well here in
00:21the UK. So this SV van is spearheading, entering into the UK commercial market. And in this video,
00:27I'm going to give a walk-around tour of the van, almost like an interior, before taking it out on
00:30the road for a test drive. And before I crack on with this video, I'd like to say a special
00:35thanks
00:35to Verizon UK for loaning me this vehicle for today's video. So the SV is built on the GXAM platform.
00:43The SV is the first electric van to have dual wishbone front suspension. This van is front
00:48wheel drive as well, and it's available in free battery packs, as well as a variety of configurations
00:52depending on your needs. Let's talk about the front-end design of the vehicle.
00:57You can see the headlights are rather high up on the body, typically in a van. They're kind of low
01:02down. Now I have heard from other journalists that the idea behind this is if you bash a corner or
01:07you
01:07get into a little fender bend or hit a post or something, you're not losing time off the road
01:11because your headlights are damaged because they're up here. At night, this gives you kind of a unique
01:15signature because you do have that high headlight design with the illuminated logo. This front end
01:21here, I have some, I've seen chat GPT configurations where like the AA badging and all that could be up
01:26here. It has that kind of platypus effect as well, a bit like the Fiat Multipla from the 90s,
01:31but you can comment what you think of the front end design. This vehicle certainly screams electric
01:35vehicle. But out with that, we do have front and rear parking sensors. We do have a 360 degree camera,
01:42all as standard on the Verizon SV. This particular one is finished in a rather nice bamboo green paint,
01:48there are, of course, a host of colours you can choose from. White is the free colour,
01:52but there are a couple you can choose from as well. I believe it's just over £500 plus VAT
01:57for the paint options. This is a H1L one, which is kind of the smallest configuration you can have,
02:02and it's got the middle battery size, around 83 kilowatts. And your range is going to range,
02:08really, from 177 up to 247 miles, depending on which battery you go for and which body style you go
02:15for. So that's kind of the ballpark figure you're going to be looking at there. Now, all SV vans do
02:21come with these rather small but cute looking steel hubcap wheels with the kind of aeroblade design.
02:28Over there are 21575R16Cs. This one is a GT Van V61 tyre we're running on. So yeah, that's the tyre
02:36and wheel design you get on all the SV vans here in the UK. Your charge flap is up front,
02:41you get up to
02:41140 kilowatt charger here, and I've realised because the van's locked. That is the key,
02:47by the way. It's a funky looking little trapezo design key. There we go. We do have your type 2
02:54CCS charger for your home charging as well, and they do claim under 37 minutes, 10 to 80%
03:00if you can find a charger fast enough up to that 140 kilowatt rapid charger. Again,
03:05that's going to vary slightly depending on the battery pack and the size of the vehicle,
03:08but yeah, that's kind of the main baseline figures you're going to be looking at with
03:12the Verizon. You've got a little Verizon logo here just in front of the mirrors there. You've
03:15got your 360 camera underneath there. The side of the van kind of just looks like a standard
03:20panel van. I like this little bit of glass here. It helps with visibility and that black
03:24look going across. From the driver's side, it is just panel van. You can imagine some graphics
03:28in your business on there. Let's check out the rear of the van. So the length of this van is
03:32about 4.99 metres, 1.98 metres in height and 1.98 metres in width. The weight, depending
03:39on the battery size, you're looking at about 2150 kilos up to 2235 kilos for the H1 L1.
03:47Obviously that's going to increase depending if you go for a larger body style. Just for
03:52reference, an L3 H3 is 5.995 metres in length, 2.5 metres in height and 1.98 metres in
03:59width.
03:59That has a cargo space of 13 metres cubed. The one you see here today is 6.95 metres
04:06cubed. Now the rear of the van just has kind of normal panel van styling. You've got Verizon
04:10SV badging here. You've got your taillights, your hinges. We do have a little extra lock
04:15here for the key where you can kind of bolt lock the van if you want. Your reverse camera.
04:19This van is equipped with the tow package. It's about £400 plus VAT and it can tow apparently
04:24up to 2,000 kilograms, again depending on the spec of the van. But that is worth mentioning.
04:29We do have opening doors which open up to 180 degrees as standard. Or you can pay extra
04:35and get 270 degree doors which open up which this particular van is fitted. It's also fitted
04:41with the optional vehicle to load package. So that means in the back of the van you are
04:45able to go ahead and plug in some three pin devices, power tools, whatever it may be.
04:49So while we're in the rear it is worth mentioning we have a 550 millimetre load hike to get into
04:55the back of the van to load stuff in. We do have this kind of configuration with the kind
04:59of plastic all around it. This is where your vehicle to load box is going to be. So if
05:02I step inside, pull this down. We do have three pins. You can turn it on there and again
05:09you can use this to plug and charge up power tools, laptops. I've even seen somebody review
05:14with an airfare here which is rather cool to see. So yeah that is some of your options
05:18on the back of the vehicle to load van. As you can see in the back of the van it's
05:22rather
05:22standard fare. You can fit euro pallets in the back of here. We've got tie down hooks along
05:26the side there. A lot of lights on the ceiling. Again this is the standard H1 L1 configuration
05:32that you see inside. It's quite interesting to see green painted wheel arches on the interior
05:36of the van. It's quite a nice little light feel and then you've got like a nice fabric on top
05:40of the ceiling inside here. But not too much else to say. Let's check out the side of the
05:44van because that is where things differ. I also want to mention that the 270 degree opening
05:49doors are £300 plus VAT. That is an option that is fitted to this particular Verizon SV.
06:00Now you join me at the side of the Verizon van. Go ahead and unlock it. What I want to
06:06think
06:06is this is like a normal sliding door. However I pull this open. Yes that opens up on the H1
06:13L1
06:13you get a one meter sliding door I believe. But if I open this door you'll notice that the seat
06:22belt
06:22is on the actual door itself. So what that means is you've got a rather thin B pillar area. It's
06:28almost
06:28non-existent on the side here. So that helps with loading things into the van just because you've got
06:33a little bit more aperture to go ahead and yeah load things into the side of the van. That might
06:39be
06:39worthwhile considering and might even buy a van because of that. But yeah it's worth mentioning
06:44that is what you see on the side of your panel van on the Verizon SV. So while we're around
06:49the back
06:49let's check out the passenger side. First we've got a door bin here enough for a bottle of juice.
06:54First aid kit can fit in there. A little do kit in there. Grab handle. Let your window switch. This
06:58is
06:58your mechanical lever here to go ahead and open the door. And then you've got a lot of air vent
07:03here.
07:04I said this is quite a cool thing. This reminds me of the cars from the 80s and 90s when
07:06I had them
07:07hinged up here. I'll go ahead and step inside the van by grab handle. We do have a decent sized
07:12glove box
07:13with enough room for your high vis and logbook and things like that. And then is there really anything
07:20underneath apart from a little bit of storage for the two seats here. There doesn't slide or decline
07:26but we'll get to that for the driver seat because there's a little bit more amenities on the driver
07:30side of the cabin. But there is three seating up here. Two and then you've got an armrest and then
07:36one for the driver. They all come with this full leather interior. Orange stitching. The black with
07:41the kind of charcoal grey up top is the only way you can configure the interior. Same thing for the
07:46orange
07:47accents on the interior as well. I haven't seen any options on the configurator to change them out.
07:53So if you like that orange effect that's what you've got otherwise you're kind of stuck with it.
07:58But let's check out the driver side of the Verizon SV van. All right you join me in the cabin
08:04of the
08:04Verizon SV from the driver side. Now in the driver's door we do have two electric window switches, door
08:10locks, electronic mirror controls, your big grab handle there to get out, some door bin cubbies and stuff
08:16like that. Your bonnet release is under here. The right hand side of the steering wheel is where your
08:20drive modes are going to be as well. Things like your stability control and fog lights.
08:25Gear selector is column mounted so you can pull that down for drive. Up for reverse it pulls up the
08:29cameras. Indent P for park. Big grab handle to get in. We've also got the big sun visor. It's crucial
08:35because you've got that big huge glass kind of front windscreen there. In front of the driver we do
08:42have a seven inch display. It can cycle through to give you some relevant information but it's mostly
08:47used for I guess your speedo and your range. It's not that configurable. Most of the information is
08:51for that 12.3 inch screen in the centre. It does have CarPlay, Android Auto which is wireless which
08:57is good to see. Other functions such as your driver assistance tech as well as your heated seats
09:01are all controlled through that screen as well. And then down below that we do have physical buttons
09:06for your climate controls, your HVACs so you can touch them, change your fan speed and temperature.
09:11And then the steering wheel is where most of your configuration is going to come up from.
09:15The right hand side of the steering wheel is where your heated steering wheel button is.
09:18A little button there has got like two pictures of two gauge clusters and that allows you to
09:23configure a little bit inside the digital gauge cluster choosing left and right. The kind of
09:27cancel button there to mute out the music and then there's a little silver knob that goes up and down
09:32and that is actually your volume knob inside the Verizon SV. Left hand side is hill descent control,
09:37your cruise control and then you can change the adaptive cruise control as well as voice recognition
09:42and your telephone calls are on the left hand side there. Driver detection is in front of the
09:47gauge cluster there. Steering wheel control and the steering wheel itself feels rather nice and again
09:52this is a one trim kind of van that does have adjustment on the driver side so you can pull
09:58that
09:59forward and back. There is no adjustment up and down, you can pull the lever back to like kind of
10:03get yourself a little bit more comfortable there. And the steering wheel only goes up and down,
10:09does not come towards you so that's, I'd recommend test driving one of these to see if you can get
10:14yourself comfortable because only that seat slides forward and back. Same thing for storage, we do
10:20have one cupholder here in the drawer, a kind of little dink it which you could put something else in
10:25in a little squared off area. That feels a little bit flimsy and when I've been driving with things in
10:30there it just rattles around, it's a little bit annoying. USB-A and USB-C charger, a little bit of
10:36a pouch
10:36there, you could maybe put something small inside there and then we do have another power outlet down
10:41below. But yeah, out of the glove box and the storage under the seats, there seems to be a lack
10:46of like actual places to put bottles of juice. Even like the dashboard as well in some other vans,
10:51you've got all these kind of nooks and crannies to put things. There's nothing there, there's nothing
10:55above the driver here as well. Sometimes you get a little bit of shelving or something above there as
10:59well. We do have an armrest which is nice, we do have lights. I'd also like to see a rearview
11:05mirror.
11:06You know, some of the electric Ford transits, you go inside and it's like a mirror and it's digital and
11:10it makes you look through the bulkhead, you just look up, you can see what's behind you. Because this
11:14van's got everything, I expected it to kind of have that because it's got the 360 cameras I mentioned,
11:18heated and ventilated seats, heated steering wheel, all that good stuff, the adaptive cruise control,
11:22adaptive LED lights. I just thought that seems to be a weird admission on such a high specced vehicle,
11:27but maybe they'll add it in the future, who knows. But that is the cabin of the Verizon SV.
11:34We can have a quick look under the bonnet, let's pull this lever twice and let's see what we have
11:38under there. So this is what we've got underneath this little cutesy bonnet here and does it stay up?
11:46No. I'm guessing I'm having to hold that. Oh there's a little small prop shaft thing, come on.
11:54This is my first time underneath here, but yeah, no frunk or anything, but you do have ability to
12:00fill up your screen wash there and some other fluids. You can see your battery technology and
12:04your motors and all that, all the orange cabling is underneath here. But yeah, it's quite a small
12:09opening, it reminds me of something you see in the Porsche 911 on the rear, they've got that small
12:12opening, but that is what the front or frunk, front area of the Verizon SV under the bonnet looks like.
12:19Now let's get this vehicle out on the road for a test drive. Right, you join me behind the wheel
12:23of
12:23the Verizon SV. Now let's see what it's like out on the damp Scottish roads. I've timed this just in
12:29time because the rain has came on to no surprise for anybody watching out of Scotland. Down for drive
12:36and power regens high because we are in drive mode free and we are shooting off. Now what you'd expect
12:43from a van you do sit up rather high, you've got that slanted windscreen towards you. It's worth
12:49mentioning this van does come as standard with a heated windscreen, which is rather nice because
12:54to try and maximise efficiency I have been driving without the climate on, so I have the heated seat
12:59on, heated steering wheel and then when the windows start to steam up I have been using the heated windscreen
13:04just to help keep that at bay and just trying to help with the efficiency of the vehicle. Currently at
13:0910%
13:10with 21 miles so that is going to roughly suggest 210 miles of range on a full charge. I said
13:18I have
13:18been driving this in the most eco-friendly setting and keeping this not using climate and stuff like
13:24that and the van is unladen with weight as well. The van has front-wheel drive so you do feel
13:29that
13:30when you're going through corners pulling out from roundabouts and things like that. I did recently drive
13:35from the Scottish borders up to the central belt in this van, up all the twisty roads and the kind
13:41of front-wheel drive system. You could feel it pulling you through the corners so to speak. Again
13:47it's not a dynamic vehicle you're not buying one of these because you want it to be something that
13:52you're out and about you know enjoying for the drive but it's just something to bear in mind in
13:56comparison to something like a transit that is rear-wheel driving pushing you through the corners. This is
14:02around town driving you can hear that electric motor and hum when you're out and about it kind of plays
14:07a little tune or an audio like sci-fi feel to the car and I don't know if the van's
14:12actually playing
14:13that externally or that's just the motors and the kind of whining that comes along but that is what
14:18you hear when you're traveling below about 20 miles per hour. Now the turning circle in this van is about
14:2312.2 meters which is quite good for you know going around roundabouts, tight circles, things like that.
14:28That's just one of the safety systems coming towards because that Tesla got too close.
14:32You do get about 231 PS with this van and 336 Nm of torque which do sound like healthy numbers
14:40but 0-60 is in around 12 second mark with this front-wheel drive van. Top speed 83 miles per
14:48hour
14:48which of course is going to be more than adequate because you can't really go over 70 in the UK
14:53anyway.
14:53But it's just worth mentioning those stats with the vehicle. As said they also claimed 342 miles of
15:02city driving so if you are somebody that lives in the city centre of one of the major hubs in
15:07the UK
15:07and all your driving is around town the electric van may make more sense to you and if you are
15:13getting
15:13over 300 miles of electric city driving then I don't know if you live somewhere like London or
15:18somewhere it's heavily congested and you just stop start all the time. You could probably charge this
15:22up once every other day or something and it will suit you more than necessary. Now because this van has
15:29unladen it does kind of have a lot of spring and buoyance to it you're going to hear that vibration
15:34from
15:34that centre console there. There's nothing in it at the moment but just that drawer seems to rattle.
15:40It was one of the kind of annoying bits that reminded me that I was in a van because the
15:45driving experience
15:45itself is rather smooth and you don't really feel that you're in a van in terms of the way it
15:51steers,
15:51brakes, the regen strong especially in the kind of eco setting. You can cycle through various drive modes.
15:57The power setting just really, the sports mode really just puts the power more eager to kind of accelerate
16:03but when it's wet and greasy and things like that all you're really doing is getting wheels spin
16:07which you don't really want in a van. So I've been leaving this in eco mode or you can leave
16:12it normal
16:12if you want that balance of the both but the higher regen around town is certainly going to help with
16:18you know your electric range and all that good stuff around there. But yeah that's kind of the main
16:25experience with the van. I like the fact we've got the column shifter. Yes I do wish there were slightly
16:29more cup holders inside the van. I think that's important for especially when you've got three
16:33occupants in it. If everybody gets the morning cup of tea and there's only one cup holder you're
16:38going to be fighting for where you're going to put it because the door bins are not putting like
16:41takeaway cups of tea in that inside there. Maybe a flask in the morning but I wish they would add
16:46that.
16:46Also wish they would add the ability to pull the steering wheel towards it. It does go up and down
16:52as I mentioned earlier on in the video but I feel that's something they could add. And then that rear
16:58view
16:58camera there just purely because I feel like a lot of other vans make it a bit easier. If you're
17:04not
17:04used to driving a van it's quite nice getting in looking up and you can see behind you. If you
17:08drive
17:08vans day in day out you'll probably get used to not having it but just because this is a top
17:12spec
17:12all singing all dancing van I wasn't kind of expecting it to have that piece of technology.
17:17But that's my only really pieces to mention. Potentially maybe having something in the centre of
17:22the seat that could pull down and you could put some doing a hard back on it like I've seen
17:26that again in the
17:27Ford Transits so you're able to put they even have cup holders built into that but you can do like
17:31your notes or you know if you're doing pricing jobs and things you can pull that down you've got
17:36somewhere hard to lean on and do some paperwork or whatever it may be when you're out and about
17:41during the day this particular van does not have it. So there's a couple of things I would like
17:46tweaked just for the functionality of people that use a van and having spoken with people who use
17:51commercial vehicles what they would want from it. I think the range is adequate I think the styling
17:57looks futuristic and depending on your brand and what you're looking for this could be the vehicle
18:02for you especially if you're going for something kitsch maybe if you were going for like a florist
18:06or something I could really see this green being used for that it's got a nice electric vehicle look
18:11about it and with a decent warranty and there's not too much else to say about it. Pricing is in
18:18line
18:18with something like the electric transit and some of the other electric vehicles they are
18:22over £45,000 into the £50,000 range depending on how you configure them so they are not a cheap
18:28vehicle to buy but you are getting it well equipped as standard and really you're only choosing the
18:34paint you want configuration and the battery out with that everything else is pretty much thrown in
18:39especially the interior stuff. Ventilated seats are definitely something I have not seen on a van
18:44before regardless if it's electric or not so that's quite an interesting feature to have I guess.
18:50It's not really ideal in Scotland when you have like two days a year where you could probably use
18:54the aircon in the ventilated seats but it is something that you might want to use if you're
18:59down south or maybe out with the UK mainland Europe where it gets warmer than like three degrees
19:05cold and rainy when you're meant to be in spring. But anyway thank you very much for watching a special
19:10thanks to Verizon UK for loaning me the Verizon SV for today's video. If you like this van please
19:15comment below or if you have any thoughts on it in general check the Verizon website out if you are
19:20interested in configurating one or buying one and yeah make sure to check out all the good social
19:25medias Instagram, TikTok, X, Facebook all that good stuff I'll leave all that information below.
19:30You've been watching Cars at Glasgow, I'm Thomas and I will see you all next video. Ciao!
