00:20A massive explosion, flames rising from the roof of one of the most heavily guarded buildings in
00:27the Middle East. And a shocking claim. An Iranian-linked suicide drone has struck the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad.
00:35The attack may have destroyed part of the embassy's air defense system, potentially leaving the compound more vulnerable than before.
00:43Here's what happened. Early today, a drone strike reportedly hit the United States Embassy Baghdad, located inside Baghdad's highly secured
00:52green zone. Videos circulating online show thick black smoke,
00:57rising from the roof of the embassy complex, with visible flames near the helipad area. According to Iraqi security sources,
01:05the strike impacted a helipad inside the embassy compound, triggering a fireball that was seen from surrounding areas.
01:12So far, no U.S. casualties have been reported. But the real target may have been something even more critical.
01:19Analysts say the drone likely struck a radar component connected to the embassy's defensive system.
01:25The facility is protected by C-RAM air defense system, a powerful platform designed to intercept incoming rockets, artillery, and
01:34drones. This system is based on the Phalanx Close-In Weapon System, which uses radar tracking at a rapid-fire
01:4120mm cannon to shoot down incoming threats.
01:44If the radar system was damaged, experts say it could temporarily blind the defense network, making it harder to detect
01:52new attacks.
01:53The attack is widely being attributed to the Islamic resistance in Iraq, a coalition of Iranian-backed militias operating in
02:01the country. These groups have intensified attacks against U.S. targets since the wider regional conflict escalated between Iran, Israel,
02:10and the United States.
02:11Militia channels online claimed the attack was carried out using a suicide drone. However, official confirmation of the weapon used
02:19has not yet been released.
02:20The United States Embassy Baghdad is one of the largest and most fortified diplomatic compounds in the world. For years,
02:28it has been protected by layered defenses including missile interceptors, anti-drone systems, and the C-RAM network.
02:35Yet even with those defenses, the embassy has been repeatedly targeted by rockets, drones, and mortars.
02:42The attack comes as the wider Middle East conflict continues to escalate. Iran-aligned groups across the region have launched
02:50drone and missile attacks on U.S. bases, embassies, and ships.
02:54With tensions already at a boiling point, any successful attack on U.S. diplomatic infrastructure could raise fears of further
03:02escalation.
