Thousands of sailors aboard the USS Gerald R. Ford have finally reunited with their families after completing a historic 11-month deployment across the Caribbean, Europe, and the Middle East. The carrier strike group supported major military operations including Operation Epic Fury and missions in the Caribbean tied to Venezuelan tensions. The deployment also faced challenges after a fire broke out onboard, injuring two sailors and forcing hundreds to sleep in temporary conditions before finally returning home to Naval Station Norfolk.
