00:00Mi precioso, mi precioso.
00:16Josh Conor's character says to Josh Brolin that his priest is intentionally keeping his people angry and afraid.
00:28I know what you did there, so how much do we need to get rid of people who want to
00:36keep us angry and afraid?
00:40Well, I think we all have to work on ourselves to get better at just not listening to people who
00:46want to make us angry and afraid.
00:47I think because, yeah, I think that across so many parts of society, that's such a big part of it
00:58right now.
00:59And I point the finger back at myself as well.
01:01I'm not as guilty as anybody of sitting on my phone in my own little world and getting angry at
01:06the things that it shows me.
01:08Because it knows I'll get angry at them and it knows I'll keep scrolling and clicking.
01:12And I think it's a disease.
01:14And unfortunately it's a disease that certain people have also learned is a very powerful one to harness in order
01:22to get and keep power.
01:24So I think it's a big problem that's obviously outside of the scope of a murder mystery entertainment.
01:31But it's something that these movies always try and kind of engage with what's happening in the world.
01:36And it's a big thing right now that's happening.
01:39And speaking about that, Benoit says that everything is storytelling, even religion.
01:47Since you are a great storyteller, do you still enjoy to tell stories in a world in which everything has
01:55a story?
01:56Yeah, well, I mean, it's hard because in some ways, yeah, I mean, there's different layers of that.
02:04Because when you talk about news and storytelling, there's also the type of storytelling that is obviously trying to mislead
02:13to a certain purpose.
02:14And that happens across not just news but across many different things in life.
02:19But also I think storytelling, and this is something the movie gets at also, is not necessarily lying.
02:27The best storytelling and storytelling that actually connects with us is trying to get at truth.
02:33And that should be all of our goals, whether we're making movies or whether we're just living our lives, which
02:41itself is a form of storytelling.
02:43When you live your life, you're taking in all this raw information from the world, and you're telling it, you're
02:48filtering it through your own narrative, and telling it back to yourself in a way that makes sense.
02:54That's living, that's also storytelling.
02:55And I think doing that in a way that truly searches for truth is all of our jobs.
03:05I love the many references to Lord of the Rings.
03:09You shall not pass.
03:11You shall not pass.
03:11Yeah, the diamond.
03:12Happy you got that.
03:13My precious.
03:14My precious.
03:16Yes, my precious.
03:17The diamond is like the ring.
03:19So was it intentional?
03:21Why did you want to homage the Lord of the Rings?
03:23It's something I grew up reading.
03:25It's a very primal thing for me.
03:28But also, I mean, I think, for instance, when Wicks, who's played by Josh Brolin, is giving his sermon and
03:34is saying,
03:34You shall not pass.
03:35I actually, I mean, I think it's quite a problem that a man of faith like him is positioning himself
03:44as sort of a warlike, standing against evil type figure.
03:51I think, to me, that's an expression of how Wicks thinks of himself.
03:58But also for me that, I don't know, I was reading Lord of the Rings when I was much too
04:04young.
04:04And it's embedded in my psyche.
04:07And it's hard for it not to come out in natural ways.
04:11And speaking about the Josh Brolin character, they say that he has a cult personality.
04:16Other people don't in your story.
04:18Do you believe that nowadays it's important to have a cult personality to be successful?
04:24Or we should be afraid of people who have cult personality?
04:28I think always, always fear people who have the cult of personality.
04:32I think it, because it's, I mean, look, it's so often it's used in bad faith, to use the word.
04:45But, and, and yeah, I think it's, it's especially today, so many of the issues that we have are people
04:54who have come to power using a cult of personality and are using that to bad ends.
05:00So, personally, I say always take three steps back and be suspicious if, if a cult, if the phrase cult
05:08of personality can be applied to a leader.
05:11And called Benoit Blanc, yeah.
05:13Oh, Benoit Blanc, oh my God, just have Benny show up.
05:15He'll, he'll sort it all out.
05:16Yeah, we're going to be fine.
05:18Thank you so much.
05:19Thank you.
05:19I think this is the best movie of the saga.
05:22Thank you.
05:22Oh, it's okay.
05:23Thank you so much.
05:48Thank you.
