00:00Dai, dai Roma, dai!
00:17Prima di tutto, devo chiedere, scusate, come spesso pensi di pensare del romano ora?
00:26Before doing the show I'm aware of the internet name before doing the show, I'll be honest with you very
00:31little
00:32Post doing the show I now can't get it out of my head. It's kind of present there.!
00:37I can't get through a day without thinking about the Roman Empire sadly it's a curse. It's a curse
00:41and a blessing I had no idea but I don't have any social media so it was only
00:45when we started promoting the show that I was brought up to speed about this social
00:51media thing and I can't say that I ever really thought about the Roman Empire much I grew up in
00:57a city Roman city in the in the north of the UK so it's always there's a small amphitheater there
01:02and it's a walled city things like that so it was always around me so maybe I didn't have to
01:07go
01:07looking for it that much I guess and then since the show unlike Jojo I feel like you know like
01:14sports games when characters have like they're like a 96 for like running or something I feel
01:19like I've used all of my quota of Rome on the job it's gone that's it like I love this
01:24city but
01:24the Roman Empire that's that's my fill now I'm moving on to other things now that's it
01:29until season two never have to think about it again so there will be a season two really we hope
01:36we hope
01:36okay let's hope so and it's interesting how entertaining here is is almost dangerous because
01:44um people want to be entertained and they don't realize that the politicians are all corrupted
01:51and and I feel that it's the same thing nowadays so do you believe that entertainment sometimes can
01:57be dangerous because it distracts us from the important stuff I mean I think with you know
02:02we're surrounded by distractions constantly in this world we live in um I uh but you know looking at
02:11this in the in the political sphere that it was 2000 years ago for sure it had this enormous control
02:17um over the people of Rome um and Domitian being Edile Ludi the master of the games realizes that and
02:26and uses that as as much as he possibly can to try and grip some power grip some control over
02:33the people
02:34of Rome I I think looking at you know looking at the spirit of history through the prism of the
02:39show
02:39you know obviously one has to remember this is a dramatic representation uh uninterpreted
02:45but I think I think that is that is very much at the heart of a lot of the political
02:49decisions that are made
02:50it's also that you know Rome is shifting at the time that the show is set there's a the kind
02:56of the structures
02:56of Rome are are changing in terms of what what has become significant what has become important
03:02and the political now sort of bespation and passing that across to Domitian who of the two sons
03:07clearly in in in our story at least is the one that's more equipped for that that that decision
03:13that that using entertainment as a distraction is certainly a a successful ploy initially um
03:20so you know but that's looking at the show in in isolation I think the broader
03:25question is uh probably too long to discuss in in eight minutes
03:31and and do you believe that in this tv show uh fits are stronger than uh words or or not
03:39I don't know I think words are very powerful as well aren't they you know I'm gonna paraphrase this
03:44but no I can't I can't remember the exact quote so I was gonna give an Arthur Miller quote but
03:48unless I'm gonna get it right I shouldn't say it I think words are really they can be very very
03:53powerful things so I'm not I'm not sure that I would agree with that no no I wouldn't
03:57I think Domitian relies incredibly heavily on his power as a sort of wordsmith and uh
04:06and he's he's not the greatest soldier he's not gonna go out there and uh and kick ass on the
04:13battlefield uh as such but what he is gonna do is politically manipulate everyone with incredible
04:19skill uh fingers crossed if that comes across and how does it feel to be the sons of Anthony
04:28Hopkins what do you feel when he look at you and and judges you what do you feel
04:34I hope he wasn't judging me I hope he was judging Titus
04:40I know it's amazing I mean I mean what a privilege you know it we all know in from in
04:48my opinion
04:49Anthony's the best actor that's ever lived so to to be able to be in scenes with him work with
04:54him
04:54meet him be so overwhelmingly like astounded at how nice and cool and fun and generous and
05:02high end he is as well as everything we all know he is which is incredible what he does
05:08uh it was it was a real privilege I can't really think of a word that sums it up better
05:13you know
05:13absolutely yeah I mean you know obviously it's nerve-wracking going to do a scene with one of
05:21the greatest actors of all time uh and someone of his sort of legend level um but genuinely
05:28obviously he's he's known as an incredible actor but it's important to say as to echo Tom
05:34like what an incredibly nice guy and really makes you feel comfortable makes you feel up
05:41for playing with the scene and uh is really open and generous as a guy and just makes you feel
05:47like
05:47you're doing a great job which there's no better feeling than coming home on for a long day being
05:53like I just had an amazing day working with Anthony Hopkins yeah that's kind of an amazing career
05:59highlight I know that you play guitar and and and that you were playing on set so I want to
06:07know
06:07what is the song that you played when you were shooting the show I'm gonna actually jump in here
06:15with a little with a little one well I remember Tom would Tom would play this game when we were
06:20sitting up on the uh up on the imperial balcony and uh I don't I don't I don't know what
06:25he's gonna
06:25say and he'd go on the chair and he'd go what song is this like a quiz show amazing and
06:35every day
06:35same song uh yes yes I am the resurrection Tom
06:42that makes it sound like it's some complex it was more because it's the only one I knew how to
06:46drum properly
06:49and and since you shot in Italy in Cinecittà do you know any Italian words um I do but they're
06:56all
06:56curse words and so I can't say them now and I'm not going to tell you who I learned them
07:01from but I
07:01can't repeat any of them in an interview sadly okay other than Daya Daya is amazing yeah of course
07:09Daya and you everything I know Joe taught me so I'm in the same home okay thank you so much
