Middle East conflict disrupts travel plans of Tunisian pilgrims
Transcript
00:06Performing Omra during Ramadan is often planned years in advance, but airspace closures in the region have disrupted flights, leaving
00:14some Tunisian pilgrims stranded and others forced to rethink their plan.
00:18The attack in Saudi Arabia occurred near Riyadh, but the Umar pilgrimage route remains unaffected. Madinah and Mecca, home to
00:26Islam's two holiest sites, remain safe and secure. Around 20 to 25 Tunisian pilgrims have been unable to leave Saudi
00:34Arabia and return home because they traveled with Emirates, while airports in the UAE are temporarily closed.
00:40They are expected to be repatriated once those airports reopen. Meanwhile, pilgrims who flew with Saudi Airlines and Tunisia Air
00:49were able to return home safely.
00:51Travel agencies say although the holiest sites remain safe, the way the instability has unsettled many travelers and their families.
01:01Some travelers were simply too afraid to go ahead and chose to cancel their flights. War is among the worst
01:08things that can happen in the region.
01:10But for believers, what is destined will happen, whether they proceed with the Omra journey or are designed to cancel
01:17it.
01:17Others have chosen to continue despite the fear. For them, faith remains stronger than uncertainty.
01:25At first I was hesitant and afraid to travel, but in the end, I decided to go ahead and perform
01:30Omra. I have faith that nothing bad will happen.
01:33Some pilgrims say family concerns have only made the decision more difficult. Yet for many believers, the spiritual pull of
01:41the journey remains stronger than the risks around them.
01:45My children and family who live in Germany urged me to cancel the trip because of the ongoing conflict. But
01:52I'm a believer and I remain determined to travel to Saudi Arabia.
01:57For many here, this crisis has become a test of patience as much as devotion. While some journeys have been
02:03postponed and some pilgrims have not been able to return home, many still hope travel will normalize soon.
02:11For Tunisian Omra pilgrims, the conflict has cast uncertainty over one of Islam's most sacred journeys. But while some have
02:18delayed their plans, others remain determined to go.
