00:48who when she's made a promise,
00:50she will devote everything to it,
00:52every ounce of energy.
00:53It will be unwavering commitment
00:55and she will see it through to the end.
00:57and she's like a kind of a zealot in that respect.
01:00So every personal alliance,
01:03every emotional connection,
01:06all of that will fall away
01:07and she will, she will prioritise
01:10her commitment to her cause above everything.
01:14So that is the thing that keeps her here.
01:17It's the thing that actually keeps her here
01:18when she suffers the biggest loss
01:20that an Aya Sadae can suffer,
01:22which is to lose the connection to the one power.
01:25And that's, you know,
01:27been described as the feeling of a miscarriage.
01:30It's something so achingly upsetting.
01:35And she, many women who suffer it
01:38want to end their life.
01:40And Moraine can't because she's promised
01:44and she will not deviate from that promise.
01:47For me, what keeps me,
01:49I find, I mean, I love life.
01:53I love, I think life is a continual journey
01:57of surprise and excitement.
02:00I have family, I have children,
02:03I have parents, I have friends.
02:06I mean, what keeps you here?
02:10It's finding out what comes next.
02:13You want to see the next part of the story.
02:16You want to see what's around the corner.
02:19It's like, are you looking, you know,
02:21I think it's that.
02:22It's taking one step ahead
02:23and seeing what tomorrow brings.
02:26That's all.
02:27It's quite simple, really, I think.
02:30And speaking about what you were saying before,
02:34in this new season,
02:35we really explore and question
02:38what is the meaning of strength?
02:42Because you were saying your character
02:45is recovering from a great trauma.
02:49So in your opinion, what is real strength?
02:53I think real strength is an interesting question.
02:56For me, real strength is feeling fear
03:01and having the courage to face it.
03:03I think it's...
03:05I never really admire people
03:09who say they're fearless.
03:11I mean, I do admire them
03:12because I sort of, you know,
03:14on some level wish for it.
03:16But I really admire people
03:18who feel fear and commit to something anyway.
03:22I think that is where real character lies.
03:25is I think any time I see somebody do something
03:28which I know doesn't come easy for them.
03:31I find it deeply moving, actually.
03:34I think I find it very affecting.
03:36And yeah, it's that, really.
03:43And finding the dragon
03:45can be a real powerful metaphor.
03:49I love that your character really
03:52trusts the new generation.
03:54She really wants to find the dragon.
03:57So in your opinion,
03:59what does it mean,
04:00finding the dragon in this TV show?
04:03It's hope.
04:04It's believing that a new future is possible.

04:08I think it's a...
04:10I've never been asked that.
04:11I think it's a very interesting question.
04:17It's locating the person
04:19on whom the future of the world lies,
04:21which, you know,
04:22obviously can only happen in fantasy
04:24unless you have some, you know,
04:26megalomaniac in real life
04:28who believes that they have that kind of power.
04:31But for the dragon himself,
04:34Randall Thor, played by Joscha Stradowsky,
04:36it's a very difficult and lonely experience
04:41to discover you're the dragon.
04:44You don't feel connected with that identity.
04:46You have another identity
04:47that you've grown up with all your life.
04:49And suddenly you are told
04:51that you are the potential saviour of mankind.
04:54And you have this power inside you
04:56that's terrifying.
04:58Because, you know,
04:59for women who train in the power,
05:01there's a school.
05:02There's a school and years of training
05:04and learning to control this thing
05:07that's bigger than you.
05:08For the men, there's no roadmap.
05:10And there's also the certainty
05:12that it will drive you mad eventually.
05:14So the idea that the dragon,
05:16who has all this power,
05:18it also, it, the power that he has,
05:21has the ability to make him,
05:25you know, mad, certifiably mad,
05:28is it's a very, very potent cocktail.
05:30I hadn't thought about it
05:32exactly as the new generation.
05:34Because for Ayas Sedai,
05:36they live so long.
05:37You know, they have the one power
05:39lets them outlive the lifespan

06:05You know, I feel her realisation
06:07that she knows that it's Rand
06:09is like discovering the secrets
06:10of the atomic bomb.
06:12You know, it's, you know,
06:14when she has an object
06:16from the Age of Legends,
06:17it's like she's holding kryptonite
06:19in her hands.
06:19Or it's that you have to make
06:21a modern parallel
06:23that you can, you know,
06:26you understand Trollocs
06:27like drones in modern warfare.
06:30You know, you have to find a parallel
06:32that you can identify
06:33what the threat is.
06:37And now you're used to these characters
06:40who are really tough.
06:42generally you, we saw you
06:45many sharp cut hair, tough women.
06:50Why do you love these characters so much?
06:52Because I think you've got
06:54a great sense of humour,
06:55great timing,
06:56so you could do many comedies.
06:58But you choose these tough women.
07:01Why?
07:01Well, I do have to confess,
07:03you know, there are times
07:04that I wish Moraine
07:05could be a little more lighthearted.
07:08You know, there are times
07:10when I think, God, you know,
07:11could she not just smile once?
07:13You know, she's...
07:15And when the writers told me
07:18that they were taking her power away,
07:21I did have to take a deep breath
07:22because I thought
07:23this is not what I signed up for.
07:25I signed up for a sort of fantasy,
07:27you know, epic heroine
07:29who threw fireballs
07:30and I didn't have to dig deep
07:33into the sort of darkest parts of myself
07:36in order to play.
07:37You know, I've done lots of that
07:38and actually to do a fantasy show
07:40was an escape,
07:43a needed escape
07:44into the world of the imagination.
07:45And so this trauma,
07:49as you rightly said,
07:50was a bit of a surprise for me.
07:53And actually, you know,
07:54I'd played characters in recent years
07:57who have gone through terrible trauma
07:59and I really didn't want
08:01to do that again for a while.
08:03and then lo and behold,
08:05it arrives on my plate, you know,
08:08because with a show,
08:09you don't know
08:09until you read the next script.
08:12You don't know
08:14what's in the writer's minds.
08:15You know what's in the books,
08:17but our writers
08:18sometimes deviate from the books.
08:20So, yes, I mean,
08:22comedy is very important to me
08:24and I have got a film coming out
08:28which is called Saltburn,
08:29made by Emerald Fennell,
08:30where thankfully my character
08:32is very funny.
08:33And, you know,
08:35it was a really nice antidote,
