00:26the first bit i've made it here i haven't gone wrong so i've just got to do the bit of
00:30getting
00:30it on and then getting it back oh this is the suzuki it's one of the cleanest nicest little sj's
00:38that
00:38you're going to find anywhere it's a very special little sj410 these were nice and low geared and
00:44they went really well you would be amazed where that little jeep would take you lovely little 66

00:58head gasket's gone i shouldn't remember doing head gaskets in the morning don't take long it's just a
01:04bit fiddly yes she's just not um fine on all four is she i think she'll let go in a
01:14minute
01:16the matthewsons a dynasty of classic car auctioneers 55 the joys of an auction most
01:24people will go to us out with something in mind but come away with something different
01:28the fun is the chase we'll have a look and we'll advise you from there you just don't know what's
01:33on
01:33the end of the phone what you're gonna find when you open them doors this is a family's love affair
01:37with motors that have lived a life testing testing most people will buy a car because
01:43they can relate to it maybe a car that dad had you're selling dreams right here we go
01:56got a good selection i think so yeah i think i think it's going to be a good sell
02:00we've got some very good cars in yes got some good cars in got some good memorabilia in
02:07look at this chopper like one last time i was on one of these i fell off braved my head
02:13that came off chucked me off braved my head up sign a path curb great big egg on my head
02:19so i've never been on one since be a bit jittery
02:25goodbye
02:27paul is it saggy underneath no it's good on this one
02:30it might look like another normal day at the matthewsons
02:33but a new era has begun in the family business
02:38you'll know how to do it jack
02:41fresh from passing his driving test charlie's getting ready for his first solo vehicle collection
02:48today i've got to go to ghostland which is only half hour up the road
02:52um to pick up what i believe is a little moggy van
02:57um so we're in high winds which is lovely um so we're like we'll chuck the little moggy van on
03:04the
03:04back um it's me i think he's called steven i think um and then bin blow away back down whip
03:11it off get it
03:11processed and in the sale he's he's proper excited really bless him he's waited a long time and he
03:17a long time as i did when i was his age you know i couldn't wait to get out simple
03:22as that you know
03:23and he's the same
03:26growing up quick aren't he yeah came up from my memories the other day it only said like three or
03:31four years ago like and he was tiny in the little jcb machine down at thornton dale and now
03:35he's like taller than me innit so um yeah yeah funny feeling really i don't know where time's gone
03:40yeah but no he'll be spot on like a good lad
03:48my first car was a lotus elan series 4 drophead 1969
03:56from there i had various mgs
03:59high on the north york moors in the village of goldland steve tucker is getting dewy-eyed
04:05about his long love affair with motors at the speedier end of the scale
04:10i went into the classic cars in my 20s mk2 jags s-types daimler's in the late 90s i had
04:20a porsche 911
04:22i had another lotus and then i went into the uh the evos i was um had an evo 6.
04:29i brought that into the
04:30country direct from japan in 1999 it was one of the first in the country had a bentley at the
04:38moment
04:38i've got the porsche panamera all always had cars in in the blood all of which makes his latest
04:45acquisition well a tad surprising this is a 1972 austin morris which i bought probably about 18 months
04:55ago the intention was to put some sign writing on we're in gothland here in north yorkshire which
05:03has obviously got the links to heartbeat so the plan was to get the car out have it sign written
05:08and do local shows and events we've got a business here to promote the bed and breakfast i'll push it
05:16out although it does start but in all honesty it's that long since i've driven it i've forgotten where
05:21reverse gear is there we go so i just haven't got around to doing it um i did buy it
05:32blind and that's
05:33probably my my biggest mistake basically being out the garage twice in nearly two years uh and then
05:40gone back in one of the first things i found it's a struggle to get in it obviously the seats
05:46don't
05:47adjust getting older in there in years and what have you yes i wouldn't want to drive it for any
05:53long distance that's for sure everything's been done seats have all been done new carpets dashboard
06:01it doesn't want for anything it's probably one of the only vehicles i've not fallen in love with it
06:07i can't quite put my finger on it i think i think in the past i've always had performance vehicles
06:14you know you put your foot down you go this one it just doesn't happen um which i should have
06:20thought
06:20about it probably a little bit more before i bought it but um it wants somebody to actually
06:26take it on spend some money having it resprayed just to take out the blemishes you know there's
06:33no fiberglass wings or anything it's all it's all metal everything's been done in the back by the uh
06:39the previous owner it's all solid uh but like i say it'll make for a nice fan it just just
06:46needs
06:46needs the body work doing for somebody who knows what they're doing you know it is a weekend's work
06:53here it goes let's see if we can start it it did start the other day get in
07:08there we go that's only about the fourth time i've ever started it
07:16realistically somewhere in the vicinity of 10 to 12 would be
07:20would be very nice yeah that would see my money back basically
07:33as always the buyers are spoiled for choice with vehicles from every corner of the planet
07:40yellow on there it's gamma rd 400 um 1977 model imported from the us in 2020 and restored it was
07:50blue
07:50but we decided to do it in kenny roberts colors the latest to arrive a pair of pristine japanese
07:56two-wheelers and then the blue one we've got a kawasaki kh 400 and s3 yeah fantastic bike a little
08:04bit bespoke that one because it's in ford blue it's not a kawasaki color and it's got oversized wheels
08:11simon shaw's brought them over from lancaster well the kawasaki the main thing it's a triple which means
08:17it's got three cylinders as opposed to that yamaha that's just two if you're following closely
08:22behind it'll spit oil and smoke at you which is what we like very very good for the environment by
08:29the way very nice lovely bikes i've already started both of them just one resident motorbike expert
08:40sooty is all ears yeah yeah thing is you've done it you've done it once and you've done it right
08:46yeah
08:46yeah yeah really they're too good to use aren't they the sort of thing they want to be on shore
08:51somewhere and and be looked after the yamaha upwards of seven grand and the kawasaki similar but six
08:59grand yeah the thing on facebook saying about all these women you know what perfumes did the the love
09:05and you know the smell that they couldn't get on their minds yeah somebody else put on castro
09:10i thought yeah you can't beat that no you can't you're right no that's what it's best enough to
09:16shave out yeah yeah well i'd wear it if they sold it
09:27i'll get them i think i might have a little look at that end before i get it off so
09:30i think they might
09:31take a few tools out and jump pack and what have you better easy start she'll she'll run or i'll
09:36get
09:36it off two little british classics have turned up at hq a hillman imp and an austin a30 the imp
09:44won't
09:45start but derek's up for a challenge head gasket's blown and i shouldn't remember doing head gaskets in
09:50the morning don't take long it's just a bit fiddly they're a common thing to go anyway so i quite
09:56fancy
09:56having a look at it with a view to whip whipping the gasket on it not the same thing to
10:00do to me
10:01it's a lovely little car
10:07it's trying let me give it a bit of help
10:11oh my god
10:15bugger
10:17not far off it is it
10:25yeah she's just not can fire on all four is she
10:30i think she'll um go in a minute yeah it's gonna whip plugs out have a quick look
10:35they'll be soaking wet handy these little old things aren't they see you wouldn't get a
10:40you know a socket and a plug spanner in there would you not bad it'd be lovely if she busts
10:45the
10:45us into life she's close
10:53nope we'll have to put battery on charge won't we
10:58it's a bit of a bugger that never mind what can you do
11:02with the imp remaining inert derrick gets gravity to give him a helping hand so i'm hoping with a bit
11:08of luxury to roll off and roll down there
11:16i'll get that in there i think
11:32oh
11:32oh what a car a bit of a 30. derrick's bumped into an old friend that's bounced back to pickering
11:42i went over to berry somewhere over that way and bought it the week that i lost my dad it
11:48always
11:48sticks in my mind never forget it you know you always remember what you've done on times like
11:52that that week or those few days and oh it's just so lovely i was so pleased to buy it
11:58and then we
11:59we ran it around a little bit went to a few shows and then put it in the museum area
12:04and some people
12:05came out and they said bye we fell in love with the austin i said yeah so have i i'm
12:11not too bothered
12:11about selling it really i said but it's got to be top money to let it go they said what
12:16do you call
12:16top money i said i don't know eight grand i'll have it thought bloody hell you know not that i
12:24wanted
12:24any more but i didn't want him to buy it really i wanted to keep it yeah i'll have it
12:28but what a car
12:30oh it looks just the same as it did all them years ago i mean we're talking now
12:3515 years ago or something like that long time it's a 30 an a30 four door which again is pretty
12:41unusual look at it look look unbelievable fantastic fantastic condition the car i i don't say this
12:49very often but just lately we've had some stuff in that i feel comfortable in saying it and i personally
12:55think that's the best in the world i do there's glimmier ones there's some out there when you open
13:00the bonnet well you want sunglasses and the rest of it but that don't make it better
13:03it just makes it glimmier and so beautiful car and then we've got the imp the little hillman imp
13:11which from same stable and it's lovely it's just lovely well we've spoken about imps before i think
13:18they're a better car than a mini sorry mini guys and i'll tell you what this is in lovely condition
13:23apart from the usual old problem head gasket's gone but look at that look how nice that is inside
13:30there absolutely lovely superb look at that look at that upholstery carpets dashboard again
13:40it's a belly dodger that wheel that's a belly dodger i mean opening back window for a start off i
13:46mean
13:46mini had nothing like this did it so basically the seat goes down you've got a little estate car
13:51i know i shouldn't say this but i actually prefer that to the austin oh i know it's a terrible
13:59thing to
13:59say but i think i do what we got here oh there she is hey bless her hey boss man
14:07great in it
14:09how proud they are of that little car and quite rightly so it's got to make the best of it
14:15from
14:16which i will do thing is in this life mate you've got to do somewhere near the right thing for
14:21people
14:22you know especially when they've passed away and you've got to look after the rest of the family
14:26because one day you're going to meet them and i don't want to be walking in and them saying you
14:33ripped the family off i don't want all that i wanted to say you're done well all i want to
14:37hear
14:37hopefully i should hear it right on me tea
14:51upon the north york moors steve tucker's moggy van is patiently waiting for the next chapter of
14:58its life thankfully the eagle has landed steve charlie pleased to meet you mate and news has
15:05traveled fast this is your first solo trip yeah it is i've done the first bit i've made it here
15:12i
15:12haven't gone wrong so i've just got to do the bit of getting it on and then getting it back
15:1695 there
15:18from 10 foot away it's lovely isn't it yeah band does look lovely yes a few you know imperfections on
15:24the paint work as you get up close to it but um other than that nice inside though it's all
15:29there
15:30it's it's tidy yeah it is yeah really tidy nice bottom it's not only people that want the pristines
15:38they also want the the ones that need a bit of improvement um and let's be fair it doesn't need
15:44a
15:44lot really does it yeah that's it so um yeah yeah there's somewhere that'll do
15:52look i'm happy for it to go yes yes definitely oh we're about there let's go left hand down a
16:03little bit
16:12i'll just get a strap on just in case it decides to roll off it hasn't quite sunk in yet
16:19really
16:20it might do when i get back maybe but i haven't actually finished the job yet have i really i'm
16:26only halfway well not even halfway there yet well i suppose i'm i've got it on so if i make
16:33it back
16:33in one piece without it falling off then i'll be quite proud of myself dad or granddad give you
16:40any last minute advice you want to know what jack said yeah bugger off
16:47so no not really no yeah so no to be fair i've learned it all from them though haven't i
16:54so
16:55from being sat in there in the passenger seat so
17:01i hope it goes to a nice home and you know somebody who who appreciates it cherishes it and
17:08yeah get you get yours of fun i think we're there aren't we excellent right well mint job i'll
17:15hopefully make it back um whip it off get it washed off and photographed and videoed and
17:21on the website excellent yeah spot on right forward thank you very much cheers jolly yeah spot on
17:28thank you yeah you as well yeah um right i'll make my way back
17:45all right i read your number i'll tell you what i'll do it yeah i'm not first i don't know
17:50as well can i would suck it without looking at it auction day is looming and the lots continue to
17:55pile
17:55up get it lined up with the rest of them amongst them two time warp motorbikes from lancashire you
18:01just wouldn't put them as a quick bike would you you sort of look at them and they're lovely aren't
18:05they
18:05i mean stunning but your average one a tatty one they don't really look anything that special do
18:11they but uh no little flying machines apparently they go like stink don't they so um i'll never
18:16have a go on one when i get chance sensible reserves i mean they're doing fairly strong money aren't they
18:22now i think this will probably around the seven eight mark the rd i think the kawasaki probably five
18:32or six maybe even do more you don't know they were doing silly money weren't they during uh during
18:37covert and lockdown and all the rest of it as well as everything else two lovely bikes yeah be interested
18:41to see what they do kawasaki kh 400 s3 absolute show standard bike stunning machine the sort of quality
18:52of bike you can put in your sitting room this the missus will leave you like but it's sort of
18:56sort of
18:56quality of bike you can put in your sitting room i suppose it's a win-win in it anyway but
19:00anyway
19:00there we go there we are so where we're going to be on that you tell me four thousand pound
19:04of the
19:04way 250 four two fifty four five four seven fifty four thousand seven hundred and fifty pound look
19:10four five thousand pound we've got you will not be disappointed it's a very very very pretty bike
19:16five two five three five four fifty five fifty five hundred pound fifty six are we all done then at
19:23five thousand six for the first five six five seven one more bid and i'll put it on sale because
19:29i know
19:29the vendor and i know how sensitive i am i promised i would and i will five eight it's on
19:34sale at five
19:35thousand eight at five thousand eight then you've got yourself a cracker five thousand eight sold five
19:41thousand eight next up the rd 400 what a machine that is show standard machine ladies and gentlemen you will
19:49not be disappointed it's a lovely machine always has a lovely bike seven thousand six that's 76 77 and off
19:57it goes at seven seven but seven eight we all done and dusted at seven thousand eight hundred pound seven
20:03nine fair warning at seven thousand nine hundred pound and sold well done lovely bike that in fact two
20:11nice bikes heading to two different homes it is all about them being guided at the right guide price
20:18and an accurate reserve but you know you just hope don't you if it'd been sunny today we might have
20:25got a better price for it
20:44i've got fear for this
20:50see oh it wants to get a log
21:01the showrooms open and the browsers are in shopping mode
21:06oh loads of cars in fact if he's in a museum he says i've had that i've had that i've
21:10had that
21:11it's easier if he said which ones he didn't have
21:16i originally started working on lawnmowers because even less of those then i went on to bikes and then i
21:21went on to cars and then i kept buying them and then i've got nowhere to put them so they're
21:25now in
21:25fields and all sorts of stuff i will get around to doing them just eventually i don't know when
21:32remember you thought a year ago guys it used to have it's great to see i used to have a
21:37capri when
21:38i were 20 white capri over there it's a police car belter beautiful while the punters work out what
21:45they can spend a car from 1986 has tipped up that stopped quite a few of them in their tracks
21:55a little suzuki paul it's going to be said every now and again there's a car that comes in yes
22:01everybody goes look at that yes look at that yes and and this time it seems to be a little
22:12sj410
22:14and i think we've all gone oh look at that for for a couple of reasons one you don't see
22:21them anymore
22:21dear two it's a very special little sj410 and three we've all had them and had so much fun with
22:29them
22:29you know in my youth when i was still at school we had a firm up up in dolby had
22:35an off-road driving
22:36center and i would work up there on an evening on a weekend and all the rest of it evenings
22:41were very
22:42often spent fixing them and then weekends were spent driving them i cut my teeth on them really
22:47and we had so much fun in the land of the rising sun they've always thought differently about their
22:57motors suzuki's sj410 is a case in point let's mass produce a jeep and make it an on and off
23:05-road
23:05trailblazer suzuki's jeep heritage stretches back to the 1970s when the lj series hit the hills
23:13engines were beefed up for the international market though the interiors remained agricultural
23:19the chimney was able to switch between two and four wheel drive whilst on the move and by the time
23:25the
23:25more executive vitara arrived suzuki's status as an innovator of 4x4 excellence had been well and truly
23:39written engines apparently were motorcycle derived they weren't brisking with power and indeed we
23:45all then progressed into the 413s which had a 1300 you see they had a lot more going them but
23:51these
23:51were nice and low geared and they went really well you would be amazed where that little jeep
23:56would take you you don't see any of them really do you don't anymore because they didn't rot didn't
24:02they i mean that was they were good for two things weren't they off-road and rotting yes
24:08usually at the same time and in harmony yeah yeah i think it has actually had quite a bit of
24:14work
24:14but boy it has been done well yeah i suspect it's that same old thing in it you've got to
24:20find the man
24:21who wants one haven't you it might do somewhere seven to ten mightn't it i can't see it getting
24:27in double figures can you not no brilliant quirky little jeep i think it's lovely absolutely lovely
24:33and i hope it does more money than i think i hope i'm wrong i like to be proven wrong
24:37in this scenario
24:38obviously because obviously oh i'm never wrong you know but yeah
24:46this is a nice car this has got the makings of a proper car this one there we are the
24:50auction's in
24:51full swing and there are more lots than you can shake a stick at sold 14 once up next a
25:00vehicle that's
25:00been close to derek's heart a little lost in a 30 year a little a 30 year blesser we've got
25:08four
25:09two four three four four four five four six four seven four thousand eight hundred pound there at
25:16four thousand eight four nine five thousand pound five thousand one i'm on sale i'm gonna sell it at
25:22five thousand one five two five thousand two you all be dandy at the moment oh you've just been beat
25:26by
25:27cumbry at five three five three oh five four andy at five four in you're out four five five you're
25:34back
25:34in at five five five five five we've got five six at five thousand six hammer's gonna come down your
25:42bid andy at five thousand six under a fair warning 56 the very tidy austin is snapped up by an
25:50enthusiast
25:50in sussex next up the almost running imp lovely little 66 ilman mimp there we are 49 and five
26:00thousand pound i've got here with me with five thousand one five thousand two five thousand two five
26:06three five four five five five five fifty six five seven five thousand eight and we're gonna drop it at
26:14five thousand eight hundred a pound five thousand eight hundred and fifty i'm gonna drop the hammer down
26:18at five eight fifty i'm out of that fifty eight fifty
26:24the imp is picked up by a buyer who's going to have a crack at getting the engine running again
26:35the wanderer has returned first collection actually didn't go too bad um i found my way there without a
26:41sat nav didn't crash the lorry didn't lose the morris and i arrived back at pickering and i did what
26:48nobody does and filled the lorry up with diesel so nobody can moan at me
26:56bright little bun bright little bun oh immensely proud it's what i've been waiting for all my life
27:04really i mean and the same with jack they've been in it a long time now the lads i think
27:08it's just
27:09wonderful from you know it's wonderful for me it's even better for them tell you what don't be
27:14morbid and silly about it but the more these guys do the happier i am at the end of my
27:20life to think
27:21i've seen it you know i'm so so lucky only lucky that's all it is i'm dead lucky and after
27:28those warm
27:28words the boss is soon back on the warpath and i wish someone would keep putting their bloody fingers
27:34all over it i hate finger marks on cars i'll keep saying to people look with your eyes not with
27:39your fingers you won't see anything with your fingers all you do is annoy me morris minor van
27:45haha but passes on austin and all that is it was the nationalized industry wouldn't buy morris
27:51they wanted to buy austin i think every small business probably ran a morris minor van if they
27:56didn't run a morris minor van we run a 100e van and we run 100e vans in our butchery firm
28:02simply because
28:03they were cheaper if you look at the side of the van they're a high volume van look how high
28:07they
28:08are for start off they're a real purposeful van whereas 100e vans for argument's sake finished along
28:14there so you've got that much extra for a start off they were possibly a tiny bit shorter so the
28:19actual load area in a morris minor van is quite significant really good and because the running
28:25gear is superb i mean under the van side valves engine is old-fashioned gone finished three-speed gearbox
28:31whereas up against these when you could afford a morris minor van you bought one you got you got
28:35like the overhead valve engine four-speed gearbox and such like much more serviceable van really
28:40and here we are the little a-series engine beautiful little engine you can't go wrong with that
28:45um old-fashioned su fuel pump but it was a good old pump and when it packed up and got
28:51a bit tired
28:52you know they they would all of a sudden think i've had enough i'm not going to pump any more
28:56fuel today
28:57i've had enough and you get out with a spanner or a starting handle and give them a whack and
29:01they say all right i'll get go again and and off they go and that's brilliant um you know if
29:05this
29:05was looking mint it could do 15 grand as it is at the moment wanting two grounds of the paint
29:11work
29:11you'll probably buy it for 10. not bad business is it and with a little bit of work you can
29:16turn it
29:16into a 15 grand man in the office they're getting ready for another day of hectic selling
29:25it's been very popular because it's already got bits on it and the suzuki jeep is bringing back
29:31four-wheel drive memories if you're in two-wheel driving in your four-wheel drive and it says you
29:36had to get out and like engage your hubs so you're already in a load of mud and a load
29:40of crap and then
29:41you had to get out and sort the hubs out before you can then put your car in four-wheel
29:44drive and
29:45like what's all that about you remember that paul yeah you're absolutely right you would find
29:49yourself in a bit of a dilemma and think oh out we get yeah yeah yeah then it became automated
29:57yeah
29:59we've already got bids at 11 3 so it's going to go well it's going to fly
30:07oh this is the suzuki i would go as far as to say one of the cleanest nicest little sj's
30:13that you're
30:13going to find anywhere absolutely when i saw it coming in and i said i'm having that then i looked
30:18at it and said look that's how it's going to make too much money for me that's just like a
30:215 000 mile
30:23time warp or is it a fully restored car it's lovely absolutely stunning i think one of the nicest ones
30:28you're going to find off we go then at 14 250 14 5 14 750 at 15 000 pound at
30:3615 000 15 250 at 15 5.
30:40guernsey you're in the lead again 15 750 yep 16 000 pound bid at 16 at 16 000 pounds 16
30:48000 it's a new
30:49it's a new vehicle in it there we are then six 16 750 west york's just jumping in 17 000
30:5517 000 it is
30:57a time warp it is so nice it's all west georgia there we are at 17 500 pound are we
31:02all done at
31:0317 000 5 gonna drop the hammer down then at 17 500 pound then whoa 17 750 west georgia taking
31:12you all
31:12the way 18 000 pound at 18 000 pounds it's off to guernsey nearly 18 250 18 5 18 500
31:21and are we all
31:22it's nice but i don't think i'll go to that for the first second third and last time for 18
31:26750
31:27west georgia we've got to order 20 grand this oh richard richard you're trying hard richard at 19 000
31:34pound then are we all done hammer's coming down there we are well done guys 19 000 thank you very
31:40much
31:41thank you thank you richard thank you guy you'll be over the moon with that the suzuki has romped way
31:47past
31:47its 11 grand estimate it did really well didn't it you know it did far more than i thought it
31:53was
31:53going to do if i'm completely honest but it was one of those vehicles find another one go out you
32:00could spend all year and you won't find one any better absolutely no way
32:22they were always traditionally known as morris weren't they and then i think the two companies
32:26merged austin morris obviously on the hpi check that we've done it's come up as an austin van
32:31but in the even in the description we've called it a morris six morris 600 weight really neat and tidy
32:37inside it's a clean example is that austin 600 weight van engine suite is a nut once setting up but
32:48it's got the makings of a lovely van so we got six thousand pound and we're away six thousand pounds
32:54six two fifty we're a little shy on reserve guys six two fifty six five there we go oh it's
33:00not doing
33:00very well either bless it six seven fifty seven seven yeah that's smart like it um i think he wants
33:09nine ten ish um which to be fair it should do it um because it's we sort of explained it
33:18when we were
33:18there um that it's not quite concast level it's a good user level but it won't take that much to
33:28reach that gap yep eight five he does eight thousand five hundred he says it just keeps
33:32creeping i'm all right we're only 500 off at the minute are we so we're not fast eight thousand
33:42six hundred eight seven eight seven eight seven eight eight eight eight thousand eight hundred eight
33:48nine eight nine he says one more it's on sale eight thousand nine hundred eight thousand nine hundred
33:54nine thousand on sale brilliant it's not coming my way does he want nine one now yeah nine one
34:01it's gonna keep going like this all day in it i want to get home for my tea tonight
34:07giving everyone chance nine one sold to alan on the telephone thank you very much
34:13thank you so it's sold above its reserve so we don't need to contact the vendor there'll be an
34:31invoice going out to the person who's bid and then give us your money it's a very nice van yes
34:38let's have a look and see what and with the cash handed over a few days later jacqueline and barry
34:43taylor have arrived from west yorkshire to take their moggy home or maybe not
34:51and i don't think this is going to drive with that clutch we'd better just try it out
34:55there's about an inch of movement there hopefully it will serve as well but we'll have to see if we
35:02can get
35:03it on first
35:10and in other what went where news the two japanese motorbikes were ultimately bought by jack
35:16parsison and the more observant will have spotted that he's given the kawasaki a new paint job
35:22it's back in its original candy green the stuttering imp has jumped back into life thanks to new owner
35:29john strong and the pristine low mileage suzuki jeep that soared past its reserve has landed in guernsey
35:37where it's been lovingly tended to by guida roy
35:48what attracted me to this particular vehicle was i had one as a toy car when i was a kid
35:55a little corgi car or dinky toy i think it was and my auntie joan gave me one i was
36:00about six years of
36:01age and i looked at that car and i thought oh if i could only own one of them and
36:07uh i bought it
36:09gerard huguenin is supersizing his childhood in the form of derrick's full-scale if rather petite austin a30
36:17the steering wheel of the vehicle uh was changed prior to me owning the car i'll squeeze inside
36:29if i breathe in it's not too bad i can just about do it but not with the original steering
36:35wheel
36:36it's a bit tight i just thought i'd be able to get in and move the seat back and give
36:40myself extra room
36:41but it's a fixed seat so unfortunately i'm gonna have to keep this steering wheel for now i will be
36:48on a diet and i will lose some weight and hopefully i'll put the original one on that's me plan
36:55we've got a heater which is absolutely amazing we've got windscreen wipers two lovely little chrome ones
37:02this is the windscreen washer not too sure what that is it's all new to me at the moment
37:09the austin is the latest addition to a growing collection i've got a 1928 austin chummy which
37:16is in my office actually and on my desk i've got a 1975 yamaha fs1e and i've got a 1966
37:26daimler
37:27which is beautiful and i absolutely love it to pieces as well as my 1966 morris minor pickup truck
37:37i could have an oil painting i could wear a rolex watch but i don't own anything like that
37:43i love looking at things of beauty and things of beauty to me are machines i always had my mind
37:50on
37:50purchasing an austin a30 i'm not the best person in the world for doing up vehicles so i'd like to
37:57try
37:57and buy a vehicle already done so this one was ready to roll and that's what made me purchase it
38:04the
38:04interior is absolutely amazing it's the best interior i've seen 57 years old it's absolutely
38:13lovely in fact i'm going to sit in the back now will be the first time me sitting in the
38:17back see
38:18what it's like oh dear
38:25it's not bad it's quite comfortable beautiful interior absolutely gorgeous
38:33yeah i didn't even know that happened look the seat goes up i didn't realize that happened
38:39so that's handy anyone in getting in there getting out might be a problem definitely is a problem
38:59it's not like a modern day car braking you give yourself plenty of stopping distance and
39:05and just drive them very carefully my favorite thing on the austin a30 is i always wanted a vehicle
39:15with flip out indicators and absolutely amazing flip out the indicators left or right although i get
39:22them around the wrong way sometimes but it's the little thing i like because there's no power steering
39:29that the steering is a bit heavier but it's nice and tight and it drives well i have had a
39:36look around
39:37and i believe this vehicle is the best in the country and there's nothing with the same quality
39:45quality of this vehicle so i'm really pleased with it
40:01yeah oh listen to that yeah sounds all right doesn't it
40:08living yesteryear's pace of life really but as long as it gets from here to be
40:17it's going fast enough down here there's going to be no rest for the little austin moggy van
40:24it's got a job to do to help me look after horses
40:27new owners barry and jacqueline taylor are making their new workhorse do a bit more equine related
40:33graft hello berlin all right it's all like that got some bread it won't fit that many bales in and
40:42they go through quite a lot in winter time but if i can be independent through summer just keep going
40:48and getting a few um it frees barry up yeah so it'll be good the tailors are no strangers to
40:57having a
40:58moggy in the family i bought one when i was about 13. i'm sure it was two pound that i
41:06paid for it and i
41:07run it around the fields as a rally car and put rotor number on the side and run it for
41:11six months
41:12and then scrapped it for in old money 10 bob 10 shillings or 50p in modern day money me dad
41:20had a
41:21morris minor traveler he bought it brand new year i was born so it's my first memory of a car
41:27and i
41:28used to sit on my mom's knee in front looking out that little triangle window that opened up front
41:32so i've got a bit of soft spot for them like and when we said oh shall we get that
41:38i said yeah i'll
41:39go halves with you for one of them like with the clutch sorted and a new exhaust it's all been
41:44minor
41:45fettling to get the car up and running new distributor cap here points and condenser in that
41:51ht lead working fine new air filter freed up and um set the carburetor this era of technology was just
42:01on its way out when i was working as an apprentice mechanic so that's given me a big enough insight
42:06to maintain this era of car and this era of technology you paid how much for it nine warm
42:17anyway we got it and i can't reach pedals and the seat's got two positions and the most forward
42:27position i still can't reach pedals and i put my foot on clutch and i end up sliding back so
42:32i've got a big
42:34fat cushion that i put up my back and then i'm fine i'm fine with that so i've got got
42:41it sorted
42:43as long as i've got him to look after it mechanically because i ain't got a clue
42:50i think as you get a little bit older you get a little bit sentimental over
42:55what put great in great britain and it was the old car industry the old bike industry and the old
43:01you know steelworks as you know so apart from the actual physical vehicle it's the area that it
43:09were built in that i get um quite sort of sentimental about if you like yeah it ticks a few
43:15boxes doesn't
43:16it really and if it's reliable and it does a job i'll be happy i really think
43:23so
43:25i
43:26i
