00:00Hi, I'm Nathaniel Walschmann, and I'm a Product Manager at Komatsu.
00:05I'm excited to be here to give you a detailed overview of Komatsu's newest articulated truck.
00:11Meet the HM460-6.
00:20This new 46 short ton truck has been significantly improved over our previous model,
00:25with many new benefits for both the owner and operators.
00:29While there are a lot of significant improvements from our Dash 5 Series to our Dash 6 Series,
00:34we really wanted to focus on the key pillars of improvement.
00:38Dentatsu performance, optimized operator experience, lowering the total cost of ownership,
00:44and simplifying maintenance and repair for the life of the truck.
00:50At Komatsu, Dentatsu refers to something that is truly unique and unrivaled,
00:55which is what we have here with this new model.
00:57Its design was determined based on extensive operator feedback,
01:01as well as competitive testing and benchmarking.
01:04The result?
01:05A truck that delivers fast cycle times, even in the most difficult site conditions.
01:10Let's take a closer look under the hood.
01:13This model is powered by the new Komatsu TBA 127 engine,
01:17with 9% more horsepower and 23% more torque than the previous model.
01:22This engine configuration utilizes two turbochargers with a new innovative bypass system
01:28to help prevent turbocharger overspeed.
01:32Coupled to the engine is an all-new, optimized Komatsu 9-speed transmission,
01:36equipped with a state-of-the-art transmission management system.
01:39The performance benefits are improved hill climbing speed,
01:44and faster acceleration and response when getting out of the hole.
01:48This truck is more powerful, yet leaner than its predecessor.
01:52Komatsu engineers found innovative ways to use higher strength,
01:56but lighter steel in its construction,
01:58without sacrificing strength or durability.
02:02For example, the new high-strength steel allows for an increased payload
02:06to 46 short tons, or 42 metric tons.
02:11A powerful and efficient new powertrain,
02:15along with reduced operating weight,
02:17is only part of the performance story.
02:19Other new items, such as an all-new Komatsu traction control system
02:23with cross-axle differential locks, as well as inter-axle locks,
02:28makes easy work of challenging underfoot conditions.
02:31Also, the advantage of the high ground clearance of the center hitch
02:35helps better navigate muddy terrain.
02:37The Komatsu hydropneumatic suspension system,
02:40for which Komatsu trucks are known,
02:43is carried forward to this model,
02:44resulting in excellent operator comfort.
02:47This also allows the machine to maintain faster ground speeds
02:51on varying terrain,
02:52resulting in shorter cycle times.
02:55To track your production and avoid overloading the truck,
02:58a payload meter system is standard
03:00and incorporates new LED loading lights
03:03to help guide the operator of the loading tool.
03:06This Dentatsu truck is packed with new technology
03:10to help your team work more efficiently,
03:12such as the new cruise control,
03:14where the truck will maintain a predetermined speed
03:16uphill, on flat ground, or going down a slope.
03:20When cruise control is activated while traveling downhill,
03:24the truck's robust retarder activates automatically
03:27to maintain a constant speed.
03:29Also, similar to the rigid Komatsu trucks,
03:33the HM460-6 features automatic retarder speed control,
03:38also known as ARSC,
03:40that utilizes oil-cooled wet disc brakes
03:42to maintain a set speed limit traveling downhill.
03:46A new innovative feature called Hill Start Assist
03:49automatically applies the retarder brake
03:51when the machine's incline is 10% or more,
03:54and the shift lever is in drive or reverse.
03:58This function can prevent the machine from rolling
04:00and is deactivated once the operator presses down
04:03on the accelerator pedal.
04:05These are just some of the key performance features
04:07of this value-packed truck.
04:11Komatsu learned a long time ago
04:13that keeping operators comfortable
04:15is a key to success for operators and owners.
04:19We have incorporated direct operator feedback
04:22from many surveys and comments
04:24with years of machines in the dirt
04:26into the unique design of the HM460-6.
04:30For instance, this new truck features
04:33an all-new, ground-up cab design
04:35with improved visibility.
04:37We removed two of the rear cab posts
04:39to obtain a 43% reduction in operator blind spots
04:43with 16% more glass area in the cab.
04:47The Deluxe LED lighting package is standard
04:50and provides bright visibility.
04:52Next, going into the cab,
04:54you see the new premium Deluxe seat
04:56designed to keep the operator comfortable
04:58over those long shifts.
05:00This seat is highly adjustable in many ways,
05:03including lumbar adjustment.
05:05It is heated and cooled
05:06and also provides an orange three-point seatbelt.
05:09This seat has 150% more forward
05:13and backward travel adjustment
05:14to custom-fit various operators
05:17compared to the previous model.
05:19We know you're always training new operators,
05:21so there's a convenient folding training seat
05:23located right beside the operator.
05:25This large cab also comes with ample storage room
05:29to accommodate operator belongings during long shifts.
05:32Directly in front of the operator seat
05:34is a new 8-inch LCD monitor,
05:37which allows the operator to adjust settings
05:39and turn on features via the new command selector.
05:43A new keyless starting switch is standard
05:45and adds additional security
05:47when coupled with the operator ID system.
05:49This system allows for up to 50 individual operator IDs and profiles.
05:55These IDs are set up and saved in the cab monitor
05:58with customized preferences and settings.
06:01Machine inclination angles of the truck
06:03are now clearly shown in the monitor.
06:05These inputs are also used
06:07in the new rollover protection system.
06:09Moving to the right of this monitor
06:11is a high-definition 10-inch monitor
06:13for the upgraded rear camera.
06:16The new ergonomic body dumping lever
06:18is located just forward of the travel selector.
06:22The dumping operation can now be controlled
06:24by a single movement dump lever
06:26through the three-stage operating position
06:28and the up-and-down detent system.
06:31In addition, there is a lock switch
06:33to prevent inadvertent operation next to it.
06:36When the truck is placed in neutral,
06:38a new waiting brake automatically engages.
06:41When semi-auto dumping is activated,
06:44dumping can be done by pressing the switch
06:46back to the rear-raised detent position.
06:49To increase the speed of dumping,
06:51the default engine RPM setting for semi-auto dumping
06:54can be adjusted in the main monitor
06:56using the command selector.
06:58Due to customer feedback
07:00on operating in unique applications
07:02or job site conditions,
07:04the dump angle of the body can be limited
07:06in the main monitor,
07:07as well as the maximum travel speed of the truck.
07:11Last but not least,
07:13we took a fresh look
07:14at where the switches and controls should be
07:16for the best operator experience.
07:18A great example of that
07:19is the group switches used for various functions
07:22on the right-hand console,
07:24along with cab temperature controls
07:26where the operator can set the AC
07:28with 21% more cab airflow
07:31compared to its predecessor.
07:33Articulated trucks represent a significant investment
07:36with expectations to get the job done efficiently
07:39and under budget
07:40so that you can move on quickly to the next job.
07:44The total cost of ownership
07:45is influenced by critical factors
07:48like uptime, maintenance,
07:51and repair costs
07:52over the life of the truck.
07:54Komatsu is well known
07:56for the HM400-5 truck's reliability
07:58and uptime,
08:00and that continues with the HM460.
08:03Now, Komatsu has targeted ways
08:05to lower the TCO
08:06while optimizing uptime and production.
08:09We all know that planned maintenance
08:11is a significant input
08:13into the TCO calculation.
08:15With this new truck,
08:16we were able to extend
08:17the fuel filter replacement interval
08:19to 1,000 hours
08:20and the replacement of transmission oil
08:23and filters to 2,000 hours.
08:25The coolant exchange interval
08:27is extended to 6,000 hours,
08:29and the hydraulic filter replacement
08:32is stretched out to 4,000 hours.
08:36The new Komatsu DBA-127 EGR-less engine
08:40features a new optimized SCR system
08:43as well as a new DPF cleaning interval
08:45of 8,000 hours
08:47when using approved Komatsu
08:48low-ash engine oil.
08:50This results in a significant reduction in TCO.
08:54This engine is 22% more fuel efficient
08:57than the previous model,
08:59which is essentially the production
09:00per unit of fuel used.
09:02This equates to a fuel reduction
09:04of up to 12%
09:06without sacrificing productivity.
09:08In fact, productivity increased.
09:11The new intelligent features
09:13like auto idle shutdown
09:14limit wasteful idling.
09:16Also, the new delayed engine shutdown feature,
09:19commonly referred to in our industry
09:21as a turbo timer,
09:22has several benefits.
09:24Of course, this feature allows the turbos
09:26not only to cool down,
09:27but the system also lets the engine coolant
09:30and SCR system DEF injector
09:32perform a proper cool down.
09:35All this prolongs the life
09:37of those critical components,
09:38which positively impacts
09:39the long-term TCO of the truck.
09:42The new cooling system
09:43is a closed system
09:45that minimizes the potential
09:46for contamination
09:47or coolant evaporation,
09:49thus reducing maintenance.
09:51The KCC V-Filter
09:53has been eliminated
09:54and replaced
09:55with a maintenance-free
09:57oil mist impactor.
09:59No stone was left unturned
10:01when it came to areas
10:02in which we look to reduce
10:03total cost of ownership.
10:04And I only named a few.
10:06There are many more.
10:07While engineering
10:08our next generation
10:09of articulated hauling trucks,
10:12Komatsu focused
10:12on simplifying maintenance
10:14without compromising durability.
10:16The HM 460-6
10:20is purpose-built
10:21for the toughest conditions
10:22and designed to maintain
10:24peak performance with ease.
10:27It starts with maintaining
10:28and managing operation uptime.
10:31The truck features
10:31a fully electric engine service hood
10:33that allows for easy access
10:35for daily checks and maintenance.
10:37Commonly serviced filters
10:39are now grouped together
10:40for easy access.
10:41New oil sampling ports
10:43make fluid analysis
10:44fast and simple.
10:45Plus, it's easier to replace
10:47the engine air filter
10:49which now lasts
10:50up to 1.7 times longer
10:52than the previous filter.
10:53The walkway up to the cab
10:55is in front of the truck
10:56and not near the articulation point
10:58like some other trucks
10:59in the marketplace.
11:01An all-new feature
11:02to Komatsu's
11:02articulated truck lineup
11:04is the brake inspection guide
11:05in the monitor.
11:06This innovation
11:07helps operators and technicians
11:09quickly verify brake performance
11:11prior to the shift,
11:12providing step-by-step guidance
11:14on how to check
11:15the brake performance
11:16of the three separate brake systems
11:18on this truck.
11:19Safety should never be compromised
11:21on any job site.
11:22Therefore,
11:23wheel chalks are standard
11:24on the HM460-6.
11:27Fault protection anchorage points
11:29have been strategically located
11:31throughout the machine,
11:32giving maintenance technicians
11:34peace of mind
11:35when working in high areas.
11:37Additionally,
11:38the truck has a tilting cap
11:40to provide easier access
11:41to components under the cap,
11:43helping speed up those type of repairs
11:45over the life of the truck.
11:47Bottom line,
11:48Komatsu's newest HM460-6
11:51delivers impressive performance
11:53while also facilitating
11:54faster service
11:55to help maximize uptime.
11:58Komatsu's innovation
11:59doesn't stop
12:00with the truck itself.
