00:18We are just a few miles from the Gulf Coast of Florida at Raymond James Stadium here in
00:25Tampa. Tonight week 15 begins with a great Thursday night matchup as it'll be the Atlanta Falcons
00:32taking on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
00:42On the Falcons sideline, head coach Raheem Morris. His guy's not doing too hot. Losers of seven in
00:49their last nine. Across from him on the Bucs sideline, Todd Bowles. His guy's ready to feed
00:56off the energy in this building as they try to win one in front of the home crowd.
01:10About set to begin another week of football and happy to have you along. We are underway
01:15on Thursday night primetime.
01:21And he's up across the 25 and down at the 28.
01:26So here come the Falcons now to get the football for the first time.
01:30And they will be let out by their second year quarterback.
01:34I tell you what, when he is on schedule for that week, secondaries take notice because you've
01:39got to stay alert back there on every snap. A truly powerful arm. One is capable of charging
01:44any level of the defense on any given play. That's why so many scouts preach on time when
01:49preparing for the NFL draft. The quarterback at Armstrong can make every throw in the ball.
01:53He's an absolute hat in any offense.
01:57Snap will come from the 31 on second and seventh.
02:01To the air. Penalty.
02:03Penalty.
02:04They'll get this into the hands of Hodge.
02:06And he's going to be taken down. Plus, there's a penalty flag in the backfield.
02:11They may get 15 more on top of this.
02:16So roughing the passer call is accepted and this officiating crew not making very many
02:21friends here in this crowd.
02:23Yeah, we all know that everyone accused the officials of kind of playing to the home team.
02:27But not in this case.
02:28They just tried to administer the game the way it's supposed to be.
02:31That drew the player.
02:33Yeah, he'll be out just a yard and two shy of the 30.
02:36Back-to-back good plays. Have him on the move on first down.
02:45A run for the first set for B. John Robinson.
02:49And he is swallowed up right at the line of scrimmage.
02:52He'll lose a yard there, and it's second and 11.
02:56This defense for the Buccaneers, they were very good last week in the win over New Orleans.
03:02And what keyed their victory? The pass rush.
03:04Got to the quarterback six times for sacks.
03:07Touchdown, Falcons!
03:11Kyle Pitts, his third touchdown now on the year.
03:16And the Falcons are on the board first here on the road in Tampa.
03:22With these Thursday night games, sometimes you get those quick turnarounds.
03:25You wonder how a team is going to start.
03:27They started really well.
03:28Everyone's always wondering, going into a Thursday night game, who has their legs?
03:32Who has, you know, the overall health of the team?
03:34But mentally, if you get that early edge, the other team might think to itself,
03:39Haas, been a short week, we're not really ready to go.
03:42You might run them into the ground that way.
03:44That's why getting that early score means a lot.
03:47Following the touchdown now, it's Bradley Pinion on to kick this one away.
03:58And a good effort on the return there.
04:00Gets them across the 30, up to the 33.
04:03So out come the Bucs now for their first drive.
04:07They will be led out by the Heisman Trophy winner from 2018 from Oklahoma,
04:13Baker Mayfield.
04:14And he's a guy who plays with a lot of emotion.
04:16He's learned how to channel it really positively because when he throws the football downfield
04:21and makes a big play, he'll be the first guy downfield to celebrate with you.
04:25But also, when his team needs their confidence, when they need that joy,
04:28they turn to him, and he's ready to provide it.
04:32Officially, it's a one-yard loss.
04:34That's going to bring up second and 11th.
04:36You talk about this Falcon defense, they've certainly had their struggles against the run
04:41at the 30th-ranked unit out of 32 teams in the NFL.
04:44One thing players always tell us is that they never really pay attention to members.
04:49I don't believe them for a second.
04:50They know where they rank, okay?
04:52They're not quite at the top, but they're far from the bottom.
04:56But let's face it, they want to move up.
04:58In order to do that, they've got to look at each other and make sure everyone's taking care of their
05:01assignments in order to play the run better.
05:05Mayfield on play action.
05:07He'll try and do this himself.
05:10And unable to connect, incomplete.
05:14Give them credit, they took their shot, but it's going to bring up fourth down.
05:19Almost feels like anything you can do, we're going to try and match or do better.
05:24We've already seen one touchdown pass from the opposition.
05:26They tried to equal it on that throw.
05:30And a fair catch signaled for it and taken just outside the 20-yard line.
05:35So now out comes this offense led by their quarterback as they take over once more.
05:40He had the touchdown pass on the opening drive as you take a look at the NFL leaders
05:45in touchdown passes coming in.
05:47And he's right up there among the league's best.
05:52They begin the drive with Robinson.
05:54And he is going to be stopped cold behind the line of scrimmage.
05:59And the opening play on the drive goes backwards.
06:02Now they'll come up on second and 12.
06:08They'll throw with Pennix.
06:10A throw of his back foot there.
06:12That's going to run it up incomplete.
06:14An incomplete pass on that last play, and that means they'll need to come up with something
06:18here on third down.
06:21Now Pennix.
06:23They'll try and set up the screen.
06:25It's complete.
06:28Now he's free to midfield.
06:30How about this?
06:32Racing to the end zone.
06:35Touchdown, Falcons.
06:38B. John Robinson.
06:4081 yards.
06:42And the Falcons have taken a 13-0 first quarter lead.
06:48Another impressive drive.
06:50So they're two for two.
06:51Two touchdowns.
06:52Charles, a great start to this ballgame for them.
06:55And one of the words that's really worked its way into our lexicon is stacking.
06:59They've stacked momentum each time out, not only on offense.
07:03Between those touchdowns, defense held, forced a punt to get the ball back.
07:07And they've played awfully well in this one.
07:09Both sides at an optimal level.
07:11Now Pinion with a kickoff honors following the touchdown.
07:19And he's up past the 20 of the 22-yard line.
07:23And Tampa Bay trots out there now.
07:27They've been outplayed early, no question.
07:29Down 14-0 already as they come up first and 10.
07:45They'll start this drive out in the green.
07:48And he is met in his trance behind the line of scrimmage.
07:53He'll lose a yard there, and it's second and 11.
07:56You talk about this Falcon defense.
07:59And they've been pretty much a mess against the pass number 31 in the league.
08:03And I think you're going to see some changes in the offseason,
08:06whether it's through the draft, free agency, maybe even both.
08:09They definitely need some help in the secondary.
08:11And this throw incomplete.
08:14Another defender all over in that tie, but it's going to lead to third down.
08:19Backed up here.
08:20Tough spot, needing 11 yards to pick up the first.
08:24To throw, Mayfield.
08:27And that will be incomplete.
08:31Two drives won't tell the story of this game,
08:33but you absolutely have to like how this defense has played thus far.
08:37They have yet to allow this offense to get on track in this one.
08:40On fourth down, the punt team is on as this is sent away.
08:45That'll be 37 yards there on the punt.
08:49And out will come the offense as they take over.
08:52Now the Falcons offense, they get ready to head back out here.
08:56Now right now they're saying, hey, let's keep this going.
08:58Two drives, two touchdowns.
08:59Yeah, can't ask for a better start than that, can you?
09:02I mean, this is the way you practice it.
09:03This is the way you rehearse it.
09:04But right now, the play calling, they rocked it really well.
09:08A loss of a yard there to start out.
09:11That leads to a second and 11.
09:14And looking to throw, Penix.
09:17Short throw caught by Pitts.
09:20That'll go for a game of seven.
09:22And now it's third and four.
09:24In search of four yards here to pick up the first down.
09:29Here we go, here we go.
09:30Here's Penix.
09:35And incomplete on the deep ball.
09:39That could be the stop this defense needed to get them back on track.
09:42They've been pretty well dissected by the offense here in the first half.
09:46After that possession, now they know that they can compete with this offense.
09:51And this will pin them nicely inside the 20 as it's out of bounds at about the 14-yard line.
09:57So out come the Bucs now.
10:00Still in the first half, but this offense has struggled.
10:03Haven't really been able to get anything going, not only in the points category,
10:07but in the yards category.
10:08We'll see if they can do better here on this drive.
10:13Let's start on the ground here on first down.
10:16And he's going to get a solid gain of nine before being brought down second and right in the yard.
10:24You see the numbers for Irving in last week's ballgame.
10:27Ten carries, 66 yards.
10:30And now that he's playing a Thursday night game short week,
10:33you know he spent a lot of time in the trainer's room in the cold tub
10:36trying to get his legs back for this game.
10:39Now a run he's a bad.
10:41He can't find anywhere to go with it.
10:43And he goes down.
10:46Multiple players combined for their team's first sack of the game.
10:50Well, partners, the first quarter too early to start talking about needing a comeback.
10:54They're down two touchdowns already, and that sack, that disrupts this drive.
10:58They need something to go right on offense, and they need it to happen soon.
11:03Mayfield to throw it.
11:04Now he'll tuck this and run.
11:07He'll find his rookie wideoff from Ohio State here.
11:11So five yards here, five on the play.
11:14And that's going to make it fourth down.
11:17Here's Riley Dixon now as he's on to punt for Tampa Bay.
11:24And he's getting a workout here this first quarter as he gets it away.
11:29And they call it 38 yards on the punt.

11:32And it will be first and ten as they take over.
11:35Here comes the Atlanta offense now ready to take over here.
11:40They've got things going their way early.

11:47They'll come out throwing here to start the drive.

13:27And a strong run that time as he's across midfield.

13:42In fact, I actually like it.
13:43I know they're down a couple of scores.
13:45But the running game worked in that situation.
13:47I would continue to go in that direction.

14:31And I thought that they played pretty well last week.
14:33Their execution, their discipline, their resilience.

14:39This is the second meeting between these two division rivals.
14:43You might recall they met earlier in the year.
14:45And it was the visitors getting the win there.
14:47So they'll be looking for the sweep back here at home.

14:57Here's the first carry for Sean Tucker.
15:00Looking for a seam but finding none.
15:02He'll get back to the line of scrimmage and that's it.
15:05They do get a yard there, but only a yard.

15:38They've had their share of struggles in key moments.
15:40But that's a nice throw.
15:42And nice work after the throw.

15:56The yards may start getting a little tougher to come by down here near the goal line.

17:29And this offense headed back out.
17:31Captained, of course, by their quarterback.
17:34And he continues to be a nightmare for teams to defend in the red zone.

17:43The Atlanta offense out there for their next drive.
17:47And Charles, a very uninspired effort the last time we saw them out there.
17:51It was a quick three and out, and they punted the football.
17:54Yeah, and you never want to get stopped so soundly during a series.
17:57But what would be even worse now is letting it happen again right here.

25:32what's the first thing a coach tells his defense?
25:35Don't let them score off of this.
25:37You've got to put out the fire.
25:38In fact, in 2021, that's what one NFL coach termed his defense.

26:26So after a very one-sided first half,
26:29what will the second half bring
26:30as we are back underway on EA Sports?
26:37And they will wrangle it down a couple yards shy of the 30.
26:41How come the Buccaneers?
26:42They'll have it first to start in the third quarter.
26:45And you have to think, Charles, down three scores already.
26:49They need to play an almost perfect second half
26:51to have a solid chance.
26:52And that absolutely starts with finding some way
26:55to put together a touchdown drive here.
26:57They need to be smart, fast, efficient,
27:00get the ball into the end zone,
27:01and do it again multiple times
27:03in order to have a chance to win this game.
27:06And to the 36-yard line,
27:09taken down there after getting eight yards.
27:12He didn't have a ton of success here so far,
27:14but you get the feeling that he might be on the verge
27:17of popping one.
27:18Yeah, even on that one, there was a little bit of a hole,
27:20but it closed there quickly at the end.

27:26Mayfield.
27:28To the left side, he gets this one to Ibuka.
27:31And he slips up past the 45 before being tackled.
27:35It's a first down, his fourth catch of the game
27:38after having three in the first half.
27:40And that's the kind of play this offense needs
27:43to maybe kick them into gear a little bit.
27:45They've been stuck in neutral much of the game.
27:47Perhaps that can give them a little bit of confidence
27:50that big plays are out there.
27:52Back-to-back good plays have them on the move
27:54on first down.
27:57And they'll run with Tucker.
27:59And he's going to take this one down inside the 45.
28:03A nice run there, nine yards,
28:06and it'll be second down.
28:07Now brings up second-and-one.

28:19And he'll get it down here to the 43.
28:23Able to get the one yard he needed, but nothing more.
28:26Second-and-one is often an invitation to take the big shot downfield.

28:41And he'll be stopped at the 35,

29:34And he's been a tough guy to contain this year,
29:37and his numbers reflect that, as you can see right here.

29:57And the Falcons are able to strike quickly to add on to their lead.
30:04This offense, they were dynamic in the first half.
30:06The halftime break, that didn't slow them down at all.

30:11It's almost as if they were saying,
30:13it's not just our skill in the first half is getting this done,
30:16it's confidence as well.
30:17And confidence has taken over this game in a big way.
30:21How about these strikes that we're seeing?
30:24They're following the touchdown now.

30:35And out a little across the 25 to the 27.
30:39And the Buccaneers getting ready to go as they take the field.
30:44I kind of feel like they've reached a do-or-die point in this game, Charles.
30:48If they're going to try to pull off an impressive comeback,
30:51it has to start right here, right now.
30:53Yeah, now they've got a final chance to get out of this situation,
30:56but they also understand they've got to move the ball and move it fast.

35:08Well, I mean, I'm okay with it.
35:10I have a feeling with this offense, they don't want to see the punter again.
35:13And frankly, the punter doesn't want to run out there anymore himself.
35:17He'd love to see his offense put together a drive and give his leg a rest.
35:24That may feel down.
35:27Firing quickly, but it's incomplete.
35:30So another incompletion there.
35:32He's hitting on fewer than half his pass attempts in this one, and that is not a winning formula.
35:37Yeah, so let's make sure we give a little bit of credit to the defense here.
35:40They've given him a lot to think about, a lot of different looks.
35:42And he seems a little bit confused trying to complete passes.
35:46He'll get only three there, so it leaves him with a third and seven ahead.

43:51And makes it across the 20 as his guys were set up shop at the 23-yard line.
43:57Now the Buccaneers offense gets ready to head back onto the field.
44:01Now this game went off the rails early for them and never really got back on track.
44:05And these fans, they were expecting to be on the other side of the scoreboard.
44:09But that is not the case as we play on here in this fourth quarter.
44:14And they're able to get this one across the 35.

44:44That means you have to run extra plays harder to move it.
