00:01We decided to get Tom Hooper to direct the movie
00:04because we had just seen the King's Speech
00:05when we were embarking on putting the movie together
00:09and it just seemed like he had all the attributes you needed
00:13for a director of a movie of this scale.
00:16He understood culturally what the film was about.
00:18Plus, more importantly, he was able to take British material,
00:22English material and turn it into a global sensation with King's Speech
00:25and that's what we needed to do here.
00:27We needed to make sure that we had somebody
00:29who could turn this into a giant canvas.
00:32When we first started on this endeavor,
00:35we thought we've got to get a great cast involved in this project
00:39and we had to get a great Jean Valjean
00:41and we didn't want to make the film
00:43unless there was a great Jean Valjean.
00:44We put our heads together and wrote all our lists
00:47and there was a list that had one name on it
00:49and that was Hugh Jackman.
00:50Unfortunately, Hugh really wanted to do the movie
00:52so we went up from there and we were just blessed.
00:54All these incredible actors, incredible movie stars,
00:57incredible performers, most of them came to us and said,
01:00can we be in the movie?
01:01And as a producer of 25, 30 years, that rarely happens
01:05and that just gives you an idea of how strong this material is
01:08and how much actors love it.
01:10the kids love it and that don't do their own work.
01:10Wow, wow, thank you.
01:11Thank you very much.
01:11Thank you.
01:11Thank you.
01:11Grazie.
