We tell sustainable stories

00:00This company tortures phones in a secret lab so it can get fit before it reaches you.
00:05Welcome to our camera durability labs here in Singapore.
00:08You see phones have become an extension of our minds, our hands and our eyes.
00:12We scroll, touch screens, press buttons and sometimes end up dropping it.
00:17This is why Apple tests iPhones in over 50 different ways with specific tests just for
00:22camera modules at this durability lab. And I came all the way to Singapore to check it out.
00:27Hi, we are Jenny and they tell sustainable stories. Hi Jenny, my name is Tom Mair,
00:31I'm vice president of product integrity at Apple. At Apple's durability lab in Singapore,
00:35iPhone parts are tested for all kinds of scenarios. We make these tests extremely harsh to make it
00:41harder than any real world conditions that you'll expose your phone to. First, they shock the camera
00:45by dropping it with extreme force, recreating the sudden impacts from our usage. They also dip
00:50camera materials into hot and then immediately cold liquids to make sure they can survive rapid
00:55temperature changes. Finally, they put them into this machine and this huge pressure cooker that
01:00puts iPhone camera modules through heat, humidity and pressure. These tests ensure that our iPhones
01:05can survive everything from the Mumbai floods to even the dry heat of Kutch. So real innovation
01:11isn't just about new camera modes or software updates because that means fewer replacements,
01:16less e-waste and a smaller footprint on the planet. Share this video with a friend who owns an iPhone
01:21phone and tell them how their phone is tortured. Follow Jenny and be a part of Generation Earth.
