00:08Welcome to the family
00:16Well I found Jonathan Pine fascinating
00:19He is
00:21Very complex
00:23He's haunted by
00:24Guilt and shame
00:26And by
00:28A sort of difficult military history
00:33But he is
00:34Deeply courageous
00:35And I think his bravery
00:38To train
00:40With MI6
00:42And to join them
00:43As a field agent to take down an arms dealer
00:46Is an extraordinarily brave thing to do
00:50It's sacrificial
00:51He chooses
00:54To eradicate his own personal life
00:56And to fabricate another one
00:58In order to
01:01Bring down this terrible man
01:02I found that very romantic
01:09I don't know
01:10It was very instinctive
01:13I'm just very lucky
01:14Hugh Laurie is an extraordinarily passionate man
01:18He's so intelligent
01:19And so bright
01:20And his knowledge of this particular material
01:26He's loved this novel for a long time
01:28So I felt like I had a really true collaborator in him
01:34And he made me better
01:35You know
01:36He both really wanted this to work
01:40And to be good
01:40And to be exciting
01:43So it felt like a great collaboration
01:46Who are you?
01:49I think you might be stringing us along
01:56The challenge was probably
01:59Just the intensity of the shoot
02:02It was about 75 days
02:06And we shot 360 pages
02:09To put that in context
02:10You know
02:10Quite often that's the length of a two hour film
02:13And we were shooting six hours
02:14So there were just
02:16We shot a lot
02:17We had long days
02:18And the very psychologically intense scenes
02:22And that can be draining
02:23So I found
02:24Just making it to the end of the shoot
02:27Was the biggest challenge
02:35I think the thing about other people's characters
02:38Is I feel like they
02:40They have authority and possession over them
02:43You know what I mean?
02:43I would never want to usurp their place
02:47But there are so many TV shows I've loved
02:51Gosh, I can't think of anything at the moment
02:55And I mean as a child
02:59I used to love
03:00Fawlty Towers and Blackadder
03:03And then I more recently
03:04Enjoyed 24
03:06And the original Office
03:09You know, Ricky Gervais
03:10All that sort of stuff
03:12Honestly I've been working so hard
03:14I don't watch a lot of television
03:15So that's
03:17I'm afraid
03:19I'm not the best person to ask
03:26I'm afraid I have nothing I can tell you about that
03:29So sorry
03:31In due time
03:32In due course I will
03:39The happiest memory I think
03:41Is of the
03:43The very
03:47Joyful collaboration
03:48That we had
03:51People say this all the time
03:52That they come to the
03:54You know
03:54To do
03:55Sort of to speak to people like you
03:56About an experience
03:57And people say
03:59That they enjoyed working with everybody
04:00But this was unique
04:02I can promise you that
04:03This was
04:05An experience where the director
04:06And the producers
04:08And the leading cast
04:09Felt
04:11Utterly united
04:12In the same endeavour
04:14And that
04:14That for me was very thrilling
04:16To have
04:18A group of ten people
04:20Who were completely committed
04:21For four months
04:22To make the best thing
04:24They could
04:25At the expense of everything else
04:27I mean
04:27We didn't have
04:28We all kind of
04:29Waved goodbye
04:30To everything else in our lives
04:32For the time that we made this
04:33And
04:35I feel very proud of that
04:37Is that
04:39There are some great people
04:41Involved in this project
04:42And I feel very lucky
04:43To have met them
04:44And to work with them
04:46So that is a source of huge pride
04:50And to have met them
04:52And
04:52You
04:54Twins
04:56You
04:57You
04:57You
