U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal warned that the United States appears to be moving toward deploying American troops on the ground in Iran. The senator made the alarming statement after a classified briefing on the ongoing conflict, saying he left the meeting “angry and dissatisfied” and still without clear answers about the war’s cost or objectives. Donald Trump has not ruled out sending U.S. soldiers, raising fears of a major escalation in the Middle East conflict.

Lawmakers are increasingly concerned that a ground invasion could put American lives at risk and dramatically widen the war. Some senators say the administration has not provided clear details about its strategy or the potential consequences if U.S. troops are deployed inside Iran, fueling political tensions in Washington and uncertainty about the next phase of the conflict.

00:00I emerged from this briefing as dissatisfied and angry, frankly, as I have from any past
00:11briefing in my 15 years in the Senate.
00:15I am left with more questions than answers, especially about the cost of the war.
00:26Well, my questions have been unanswered, and I will demand answers because the American
00:34people deserve to know.
00:36And I guess I am most concerned about the threat to American lives of potentially deploying
00:48our sons and daughters on the ground in Iran.
00:52We seem to be on a path toward deploying American troops on the ground in Iran to accomplish
01:01any of the potential objectives here.
01:03And there is also, as disturbingly as anything else, the specter of active Russian aid to
01:16Iran putting in danger American lives.
01:22Literally, Russia seems to be aiding our enemy actively and intensively with intelligence
01:30and perhaps with other means.
01:32And China also may be assisting Iran.
01:38So the American people deserve to know much more than this administration has told them
01:43about the cost of the war, the danger to our sons and daughters in uniform, and the potential
01:52for further escalation and widening of this war, a war of choice made by this president, not chosen
02:02by the American people with potentially huge consequences to American lives.
