01:11all of that has practically tripled his net worth in just 18 short months in office.
01:18No, the price of this war is being plainly paid, first and foremost, by our soldiers,
01:27who are being put in harm's way for a war that is making America weaker every day.
01:35They're getting killed.
01:37They're sustaining life-altering injuries.
01:43Many of our soldiers and sailors and airmen have been in the region far past their scheduled deployment.
01:51They haven't seen their families in years.
01:55And, of course, American consumers are paying the price as well.

02:04This is what gas prices were doing until the war.
02:09They are creeping back well above $4 a gallon right now.
02:16That is not affordable for regular Americans,
02:19especially Americans who have to travel great distances for work,
02:24especially small business owners who rely on reasonable gas prices in order to be able to make their bills work.
02:33Diesel prices are through the roof as well.
02:36Fertilizer prices are through the roof as well, all because of this war.
02:41No other reason than the war.
02:43The prices are this high because of the war.
02:45It's farmers.
02:46It's small business owners.
02:48It's the American public who are paying the price, not Donald Trump.
02:52And so that's why the war is just wildly unpopular.
02:57Like, except for Trump's sort of hardline supporters,
03:01the folks who just don't believe he can ever do anything wrong,
03:05nobody wants this war.
03:07If you're in a red state or a blue state, this war is deeply unpopular
03:10because the American public are smart.
03:13They're smarter than a lot of my colleagues give them credit for.
03:16They know that a war with Iran is unwinnable.
03:18They don't want America stuck again in a quagmire, a stalemate in the Middle East.
03:25So how does Trump handle this?
03:28A deeply unpopular war, a war that he is losing,
03:33a war that is driving up prices for the American public.
03:38Well, this is how he handles it.
03:43He gaslights.
03:46He tells lies.
03:50And the essential gaslight is that the war is about to end.
03:57Don't worry.
04:00Yes, it appears that there is no end.
04:04It appears that you're going to have to continue to pay these prices forever.
04:08It appears that America has no end game.
04:11But don't worry.
04:13The war is about to end.
04:15And so I just want to go through this pattern for you
04:18because it is really important
04:20to talk about the fact that the White House
04:23is just not being straight with the American public
04:26about what's going on in this war.
04:29Over and over again, the president declares
04:32that the war is about to be over.
04:35He's not telling the truth.
04:37He normally declares that the war is about to be over
04:41on Sunday night or Monday morning,
04:43right before the markets open.
04:47But now that we are six months into this war,
04:53we can see the pattern.
04:56Let me go through it with you quickly.
04:58On March 23rd, Trump announces a deal.
05:04I'm just going to give you his quotes here.
05:05These are his words.
05:07He says,
05:07The United States of America and the country of Iran
05:09have had over the last two days
05:11very good and productive conversations
05:12regarding a complete and total resolution
05:16of our hostilities in the Middle East.
05:18The market impact is immediate.
05:20That post sends oil prices tumbling nearly 11 percent.
05:26But there is no deal.
05:27He just made it up.
05:28Two days later,
05:30the United States military is back to conducting strikes.
05:35Quote,
05:36The U.S. Abraham Lincoln continues flight operations
05:39against military targets in Iran
05:40while sailing in regional waters.
05:42On March 30th,
05:44Trump announces another deal.
05:47This is Monday morning,
05:49right before the markets open.
05:50He says,
05:51The United States of America is in serious discussions
05:53with a new and more reasonable regime
05:56to end,
05:58end our military operations in Iran.
06:00Great progress has been made.
06:04One week later,
06:05there's no deal.
06:07The opposite.
06:08One week later,
06:09Trump posts that he's going to wipe out
06:12the entire civilization of Iran.
06:14A whole civilization will die tonight,
06:17he posts,
06:18never to be brought back again.
06:20That's a war crime.
06:21The president is promising
06:24to kill millions of civilians.
06:26He tries to dial it back.
06:31But later on that same day,
06:33he's back to announcing a deal.
06:34Literally,
06:36I'm going to wipe out
06:37a whole civilization
06:38that morning.
06:39That night on April 17th,
06:41he says,
06:41Well,
06:41we received a 10-point proposal from Iran
06:43and I believe it is a workable basis
06:45on which to negotiate.
06:47A two-week period
06:48will allow the agreement
06:49to be finalized
06:50and consummated.
06:53Five days later,
06:54there's no deal.
06:56Trump announces
06:57a resumption
06:58of the war
06:59with Iran.
07:01Now,
07:02let's fast forward
07:0210 days later
07:03to April 17th.
07:04He posts
07:05that a deal
07:06with Iran
07:06is imminent.
07:10This process
07:11should go very quickly.
07:12Most of the points
07:13are already negotiated,
07:15he posts.
07:16Two days later,
07:17the strikes
07:18start again.
07:20On May 5th,
07:22Trump says,
07:22Great progress
07:23being made
07:24toward a complete
07:25and final agreement
07:27with the representatives
07:28of Iran.
07:29Complete is capitalized.
07:31Final is capitalized.
07:32agreement is capitalized.
07:34Representatives is capitalized.
07:36Iran is capitalized.
07:38Two days later,
07:39the deal's off.
07:40Surprise, surprise.
07:41Every time Trump
07:42announces a deal
07:43is imminent,
07:44it just disappears.
07:49U.S. forces intercepted
07:51unprovoked Iranian attacks
07:52and responded
07:53with self-defense strikes,
07:54CENTCOM announces
07:55two days later.
07:57On May 25th,
07:58right before the markets open,
08:00a deal is imminent.

08:54in Versailles.
08:56That deal
08:57was negotiated
08:59by diplomatic amateurs.

09:03actually agreed to.
09:04There were words on a page,
09:05but from the literal moment
09:08the ink was dry,
09:09nobody could explain
09:11what they had agreed to.
09:13Most significantly,
09:14Iran thought that
09:15the agreement
09:16obligated Israel
09:17to stop
09:18its military operations
09:19in Lebanon.
09:21Israel did not
09:22agree to that.

09:29the American delegation
09:30didn't think they
09:32made that concession.
09:33Anyway,

09:40have resumed.

09:43to the last week
09:45because Trump
09:46is doing it again.

10:37and Iran is saying

10:39in the room.
10:42I mean,
10:43we should not accept

10:45of gaslighting.

10:48of the president
10:48has to matter
10:50over and over again.
10:51On 11 different instances,

10:54a deal is about
10:55to happen.
10:56Don't worry.
10:57The war is about
10:57to be over.

11:05these promises.

11:30are willing to support

11:33It'll be a humiliating agreement.

15:31floor
15:31and defend
15:32the
15:33president
15:33of the
15:33United
15:34States
15:34setting up
15:34a
15:35subscription
15:35service
15:37for public
15:38policy
15:38announcements
15:38from the
15:39White House
15:39so as to
15:41advantage
15:42certain
15:42players in
15:43the marketplace
15:44who are
15:44willing to
15:44pay
15:46that amount
15:46of money?
15:48Of course
15:49not.
15:51And if you
15:52know in
15:53your heart
15:54that it
15:55is corrupt,
15:56that it
15:56is wrong,
15:57then you
15:58should say
15:58something about

16:28clearly move
16:29the market
16:31in the
16:32middle of
16:32a very
16:33complicated
16:33conflict
16:35where the
16:36decisions of
16:37the United
16:37States
16:38government
16:38immediately
16:39change
16:40oil markets.
16:44The reason
16:45that this
16:46war is
16:47dragging on
16:48endlessly,
16:49it does
16:50matter,
16:51and my
16:52colleagues
16:53should care
16:54about Trump's
16:56insider trading
16:57subscription
16:57scheme.
16:59It's just
17:00so discouraging
17:01that nobody
17:02on the other
17:03side of the
17:03aisle says
17:04anything about
17:05this when
17:06the credibility
17:06of the
17:07White House
17:07and of our
17:08country is
17:09just getting
17:09destroyed
17:10and sullied.
17:14But my
17:15Republican
17:16colleagues
17:16should also
17:17care that
17:18the war is
17:18being waged
17:19with a
17:21level of
17:21embarrassing
17:22incompetence
17:25that is
17:26making America
17:26weaker,
17:28that's
17:29getting us
17:29nowhere.
17:31This body
17:33works best
17:34when the
17:35president's
17:36party stands
17:37stands up
17:37to him
17:38and says
17:39enough,
17:41whether it's
17:42corruption
17:43or incompetence.
17:45That's what
17:46President Johnson's
17:47party did
17:48during the
17:49Vietnam War.
17:51It is actually
17:52what the
17:53Democratic Party
17:53did with
17:56President Obama
17:56during the
17:57late stages
17:58of the
17:58Afghanistan
17:59war when
17:59many of
18:00us decided
18:02that America
18:03had to
18:03withdraw and
18:04opposed
18:04President Obama's
18:05party.
18:06It's what
18:07many of us
18:07did here
18:08during the
18:08early stages
18:09of the
18:10war in
18:10Yemen,
18:11that
18:12President Obama
18:13was bringing
18:14the American
18:16military into
18:17and many of
18:18us opposed
18:19it,
18:19got up on
18:20this floor,
18:21explained why
18:21we opposed
18:22it.
18:24Republicans
18:25can do that
18:26too.
18:27You can say
18:28this war has
18:30to end.
18:31You can say
18:31that the
18:32President
18:32should never

18:35personally
18:35benefit from
18:37a conflict
18:38overseas.
