00:00Go on, what's the best thing about those Spanish costas?
00:04I like getting the sand in between my toes.
00:06The great shops.
00:08Atmosphere.
00:08Sea.
00:09You hate the sea.
00:11Shut up.
00:12But one thing we could all agree on,
00:14with over 300 days of that glorious sunshine a year,
00:17it sure beats the cold and grey of the old UK.
00:21Ah, this is a lie.
00:23Living that dream can be blooming hard graft.
00:26Missed him.
00:27My lad, you're right.
00:29Stress level.
00:30Through the roof.
00:31But at the end of the working day...
00:34Girl power.
00:34Girl power.
00:35Come on, Sam.
00:36Forward.
00:36Booyah.
00:37The quality of life on the costas...
00:43..is priceless.
00:44Cheers.
00:45Peace or love.
00:46Cheers.
00:47That's why there will always be...
00:49Start again.
00:50She's waffling.
00:51Oh, Kerry.
00:52A lot cheaper than England.
00:53Everybody's in that friendly zone.
00:55This is heaven.
00:56Bargain-loving Brits in the sun.
01:01Today on the costas...
01:02Good evening, everybody.
01:04Cafe owner Kayleigh's reaching for the stars.
01:07I've got butterflies and I feel a little bit, you know, nauseous.
01:11As she and her girl group have a make or break gig...
01:16Double-O Ant goes deep undercover.
01:18If I put this on, none of them would realise it's me.
01:22As a big birthday surprise for a special mate.
01:25I feel like a peeping Tom.
01:26And we pop a paw in the past...
01:28As Pat pulls out all the stops...
01:30To try and achieve her daunting ambition.
01:33Oh, my.
01:33I won't be able to sleep tonight.
01:44Where are you gonna sit, darling?
01:45In Almeria...
01:47That one's reserved.
01:48We've got this one here.
01:48We've got the one over the back there.
01:50Cafe manager Kayleigh is working a busy afternoon shift at her family's caf.
01:55Are you having anything to eat, darling?
01:57No, I have an almost basically.
01:58What would you like in it?
02:00Uh, ham and mushroom.
02:01Ham and mushroom.
02:02And would you like salad with that?
02:05But tonight, she'll be swapping frothy coffee for bubbly vino to follow her dream.
02:10There you go, darling.
02:11The dessert's just coming, okay?
02:13With her first ever professional gig as part of girl band Carver Chicks.
02:18We've all been great friends for a while.
02:19We all love singing and decided why not put all of our voices together and make...
02:24Make another complete different show.
02:27Kayleigh performs solo as a Shania Twain tribute act before she joined the band a year ago.
02:33It's one of our family friends' wedding reception tonight, so it's really, really important that we get everything right.
02:38This is the first gig we're all getting paid and I think that adds a bit more pressure.
02:42It's got to be perfect.
02:43Nothing less will do if they want to kick start a career on the costas.
02:49Mum Karen and Dad Steve will be in the audience to cheer Kayleigh on.
02:53I'm a little bit nervous for Kayleigh tonight and the two girls because it's a lot of songs they've got
02:58to learn.
02:59Anyone could forget a line.
03:02That would be a supreme disaster.
03:05Ta-da!
03:0725-year-old Kayleigh was born in Essex.
03:09There we go, ladies.
03:10But has been in Spain for nine years.
03:13Enjoy.
03:15If the group can deliver a smash hit performance tonight, it could be the start of an exciting new career.
03:21I've got butterflies and I feel a little bit, you know, nauseous.
03:27How's your nerves?
03:28My nerves?
03:28They're like right up here at the minute.
03:30You'll be fine.
03:31And if you need me to sing, obviously I'm there for you.
03:34Maybe not Steve.
03:36Bandmate Emma's here to take Kayleigh to the venue.
03:40Hi there.
03:41Hiya.
03:42You all right?
03:42Yeah.
03:43You ready for this?
03:44Mmm.
03:45Yeah.
03:46Very proud of that.
03:46She'd like a chip off the old block.
03:47If I could do what she could do, I'd be doing it.
03:52I wouldn't be cooking, no.
03:56And the reality of headlining at the happiest day of someone's life is starting to sink in.
04:02We've got the soundcheck in around half an hour, 45 minutes, and we really need to get this right because
04:07it's the Briding Room's big day, they're big party, so we need to make sure everything is perfect for them.
04:13The pressure's on for Kayleigh and her bandmates to shine and give a performance that will kick off their girl
04:19group career.
04:25We all love little strokes and little cuddles, yes we do.
04:28Good morning, this lovely sunny morning.
04:34My name's Pat Earl.
04:36Oh, we all know who you are, Pat.
04:38The Dog Rescue Duchess of the Costa Blanca.
04:40Hello, darling.
04:41I had no intentions of coming to Spain to work.
04:46I think this is the last one.
04:48I had quite a nice lifestyle, you know, socially and everything.
04:52Yay!
04:53Happy!
04:54And then I got involved with the dogs.
04:57And for two decades of dedicated service, all those mutts by the Med salute you.
05:04Hello, Bruno.
05:06Come on, come on, Chicky.
05:08Yeah, yeah, and Hugh.
05:10But things really took off in 2021.
05:12So we're taking a walkies down memory lane to a pivotal time when Pat had ambitions to take her rescue
05:19centre to the next level.
05:21Come on, boss.
05:22Right, are we off?
05:24Running a dog charity was the father's thought in my head when I came to Spain.
05:28Come on, Lizzie.
05:31My husband and I, the plans we had were that we were going to retire here.
05:35And that didn't happen because he unfortunately died in 1999.
05:40So those plans just were shredded.
05:45Better, aren't they?
05:46They're a lot better.
05:47Yeah.
05:47Yeah, yeah, yeah.
05:48I thought I was going to sunbathe all day and just be a lady of leisure and have a wonderful
05:54life.
05:55Ah, you're all cheeky.
05:57Yes, you are.
05:57But instead, since 2005, Pat's kept herself busy with animal rescue.
06:03Come on, sweetheart.
06:04No need to be frightened.
06:06No.
06:07She's now its president and is involved in renting kennels, boarding up to 12.
06:11But it's becoming a squeeze.
06:14You get hooked on it.
06:16When you rescue a dog and you see it improve and become a healthy dog, you then see you can
06:24do it again and again and again.
06:25And it's an expensive habit.
06:28In the boarding kennels, we pay six euros a day.
06:31So, overall, a month you're going to say, about 500 a week, can be a maximum of 2,000 a
06:36month.
06:37And the vet's bills, another 2,000 a month.
06:40So, it's a lot of money.
06:43But life-saving for dogs like nervous Sergio.
06:46Two years ago, we found him in the streets looking very thin and his bones were sticking out, you know.
06:53Without the charity, without looking after the dogs and working out how to get the cash in every month,
06:59then I think I would just turn into an old woman.
07:01So, I've got to keep doing what I'm doing until at least I can find somebody to take over from
07:06me.
07:06And then I can chill and turn into an old woman.
07:12Not yet. In fact, big changes are afoot.
07:16Wonderland.
07:18Pat's about to take on the biggest challenge of her life.
07:21This is where we're going to have our own kennels built because we actually own this land.
07:26It's been made possible thanks to a very generous benefactor.
07:31We will obviously have our own overheads of kennels, but we won't have that set figure of 6 euros a
07:39day per dog to find.
07:41Building her own kennels is an ambitious and game-changing plan.
07:45The next event is a huge event, which I'm hoping will raise two and a half thousand euros. Hopefully more.
07:53And she's going to need all the help she can get to pull it off.
07:59Coming up...
08:01A jittery build-up to a huge night for Kayleigh.
08:04No panic. I'm not panicking.
08:06I know, I was talking to myself looking at you.
08:09And Ant...
08:10I'm looking for one of them days.
08:12...swoops back to the Costa Blanca on a surprise mission.
08:16Does anyone know I'm a yeah?
08:18Nobody!
08:19We said he was going to keep it a secret and we've kept it a secret.
08:38So, it was a mad flight. Really, really quick.
08:42But I have these air-brained schemes.
08:44And this is one of them.
08:46In Alicante, Ant has just touched down in the Costa Blanca for another one of his flying visits.
08:53I'm looking for one of them days.
08:55Having left work behind, Ant's on a 24-hour whistle-stop trip to surprise one of his nearest and dearest.
09:02Today, my very good friend Denise is celebrating a big birthday.
09:06And it'll be her first one that she's had in Spain that I haven't been there for.
09:10She's celebrating it with all the girls today and doesn't think I'm coming.
09:14She's probably been my central point of living in Spain the last 15 years.
09:19Me confidant, me mentor, a little bit of wisdom.
09:23It's Ant's second trip back to his old Costa Blanca stomping ground since moving away from Denise and his group
09:28of lady friends four months ago.
09:31It's been quite a traumatic summer for them.
09:33When I went to the Costa Del Sol for three days, I didn't envisage that six weeks later I'd be
09:38moving there.
09:39The good thing about today is every single person that's going, although they started off as clients, they're all now
09:44friends.
09:46Over the past 15 years, Ant's fitness classes helped build a community of residents that became as close as family.
09:54People come and go in your life, but friends are friends.
09:57And one thing I've been lucky enough to do over the last 15 years is to build and mould that
10:02community that I missed from the UK.
10:06But uncharacteristically for Ant, today he's keeping his last minute visit on the down low.
10:12I've had to work kind of covert.
10:14One of the ladies, Angie, has just told Denise that she's bringing a friend with her.
10:18And Angie's the only one out of them all that knows I'm going to be there today.
10:21So, it'll be interesting.
10:24But before Ant springs his surprise at the golf club, he's checking in with his undercover agent, Angie.
10:31Hello, Ant.
10:32Hello, Ant. How are you, my love?
10:34I'm very well. How are you? I've just off-footed it in.
10:38Well done, you.
10:39Does anyone know I'm here?
10:41Nobody. We said he was going to keep it a secret and we've kept it a secret.
10:46Time for mission surprise Denise to get underway.
10:50Grace, I'm going into the card shop and get this card and I'll speak to you later.
10:54OK, love. Thanks for being me mole.
10:56OK. Bye-bye.
10:58Bye-bye, my love. Bye.
10:59It was a big decision for Ant to leave his friends for a new job selling homes on the Costa
11:03del Sol.
11:04And friend Denise has also faced challenging times.
11:08Denise has had to be strong, certainly the last couple of years, losing her father and her husband in very
11:13quick concession.
11:15And then deciding it was time to relocate back to the UK where her family are.
11:20We'll go with a bit of sentiment. I was just thinking about you.
11:23Within weeks of each other, we both ended up moving.
11:27But the last thing either of us envisaged was that she'd be the one waving me off.
11:32And she's waved me off and she's still on the Costa Blanca and I'm down on the Costa del Sol
11:38selling the dream.
11:40Usually I'd have a look for something else. But A, she's in the middle of moving. And B, watch you
11:45get someone who's got everything.
11:46I know it took a lot out of her and it has taken a lot out of her mentally.
11:51So to keep his arrival under wraps, Ant hatched a cunning plan.
11:56I brought a couple of masks with me and see if we can try and disguise me a little bit.
12:00The best way to disguise me though is to shut me trap.
12:03Hear this voice coming out and they know it's me straight away.
12:09So I'm here, I'm incognito. I'm riddled with arthritis. And I knew today was going to be a long, long
12:15day.
12:15So I've had to bring the stick with me otherwise I won't get round this mini golf.
12:19My idea is now I'm going to sneak in, go and get these horrible flying clothes off and put something
12:24nice and fresh on to greet the ladies.
12:25It's a mission almost impossible for Motormouth Ant. He'll have to keep shtum so he doesn't spoil the big surprise.
12:39Hi everybody. Hi Margaret. How's the leg?
12:42Oh, nice to see you. Hi Thelma, Julie, Helen.
12:48President Pat's pulling in favours left, right and centre to help her realise her dream of building her own kennels.
12:54Starting with some deals on wheels in Boussot.
12:58Today we're holding our monthly car boot sale to raise money for the animals.
13:04Oh wow, look at all this, eh? Goodness me.
13:08Having bought the all-important land, the pressure's on Pat to find the money so they can start the build.
13:15Sometimes it's a nightmare thinking about, are we going to raise enough money to do this?
13:20So every penny counts.
13:21The target today at the car boot sale is to raise six or seven hundred euros.
13:27And who doesn't love a rummage in the back of a car?
13:30Hi.
13:31Pat charges five euros to park and pitch.
13:35Gorgeous.
13:36Oh, look.
13:37They're pebbles.
13:38Oh, these are lovely.
13:40Yeah.
13:40Gorgeous.
13:41Absolutely gorgeous.
13:42Everything three euros.
13:44Well, you can't beat that, can you, eh?
13:46Oh, this is Vicky with her cake stall.
13:49Oh, save us a slice, will you?
13:51Everything is almost new.
13:53And if you want a bargain, well, have a route about there.
13:56Wonderful stuff.
13:58These are my friends, who in the UK are very famous authors.
14:02And today they've brought their books, sent to them by the publishers, to sign with all the proceeds to back.
14:12So this is Kitty Neil, and this is Sam, and we've been friends forever.
14:16Or it feels like forever.
14:18It feels like it.
14:19Sam writes more racy books, you know?
14:22Move over, Jilly Cooper.
14:24Here we are, Vicky, 20 euros.
14:27This is our raffle this morning.
14:30It's a grid where people pay five euros for a number on this grid from 1 to 50.
14:38And then, at the end of the day, Nathan will do a random number thing on his phone, and the
14:46winner takes that home with them.
14:48You can come out with almost 100 euros of booze, which is fabulous.
14:52And a hangover thrown in, but it's all for a good cause.
14:57We rescue abandoned, abused, neglected dogs and cats here in Spain, so that they're not euthanised.
15:05Cruelty, in any form, still makes me cry.
15:09It still upsets me.
15:11It still gives me sleepless nights.
15:15If we hit this target today, that's enough money to cover our kennel costs for a week.
15:21How's it going this morning?
15:23Slow.
15:24Four euros.
15:25Oh, is that all well? Never mind.
15:27One more, one more.
15:28Can't go on holiday with that.
15:30But paying the bills is no laughing matter.
15:38Cheers.
15:41My favourite spot at home is outside, and it's on my roof terrace.
15:50What is not to love?
15:53You can eat outside, drink outside, in the open, surrounded by plants, have the most incredible view.
16:02And I could actually see Gibraltar and Africa.
16:10It's everything I always wanted.
16:15And we're here morning and night.
16:18I love that.
16:25Do you know, I sit in my corner, and I look at the view, and the palm trees, and the
16:32water, and the boats, and I think how lucky I am.
16:37Oh, this is the life.
16:49Have you got your outfit sorted?
16:50I've just got to find my dress.
16:52I know it's somewhere, I see her in my wardrobe or in one of the drawers.
16:56In Almeria, singer Kayleigh and bandmate Emma are on the way to a rehearsal for their first ever paid gig.
17:03It's been a manic week.
17:04Fitting all the rehearsals in as well.
17:05Yep.
17:06So we can get everything small.
17:07And then the kids on top of that as well.
17:10It's all go.
17:11If they can nail it tonight, it could be the start of a glittering professional music career.
17:19Right, and what do you need out of here?
17:21Just my mic stand.
17:23It's a pivotal night for the band, as well as for the bride and groom who booked them to sing.
17:28Don't lose your dress.
17:30I know.
17:31Third member, Abby, has timed it perfectly.
17:34Right, shall we ladies?
17:35Let's go.
17:37At the venue, newlyweds Maria and Chris are getting ready to party after saying I do just six weeks ago.
17:44Hi.
17:45Right, shall we get set up?
17:50Leave these two to do what they've got to do.
17:52They've got a lot of work.
17:53The rest of the table for hours.
17:55Yes.
17:55OK.
17:56Carry on.
17:58So we've got the stage just over there.
18:02Dancing will be on this area here, or on the tables, on the bar, wherever anybody really wants to dance.
18:10Bride Maria has high expectations for the band's performance.
18:13I've known her for about ten years now, since she's been out here.
18:18And to watch Kayleigh develop and grow and mature with her singing, she knows she gives me goosebumps every time
18:25she sings.
18:26So I've put all our songs near the top there.
18:29Are you happy with the way they are, or would you like to change anything?
18:32Emma and Abby both work here at the bar, while Kayleigh runs a caf with her mum and dad.
18:37Come give me a cuddle.
18:39But she's also a busy mum of two to Jackson and Skye.
18:44Balancing the cafe and the singing is difficult.
18:47It's hard work.
18:48And then you throw the kids into the equation and it makes it even harder.
18:52Kids are in a good mood, which makes a change.
18:54She's covered in chocolate.
18:57Tonight is the first step in what the band hope will be a new career.
19:01Hey, should we give it a go then and get the sound check done?
19:03Yeah.
19:04Yeah.
19:04Let's go.
19:05Let's go for it.
19:06And with 100 people on the guest list, they need to sound pitch perfect.
19:10Two, two.
19:11One, two.
19:13There's a little bit of a buzz on mine.
19:15One, two.
19:16One, two.
19:17Teaming up with the girls has meant a real leap forward for nervous Kayleigh.
19:24When you're on stage on your own, it's lonely, you've got nobody to bounce off of and everyone's staring at
19:30you.
19:30But when you're all together, it makes you more confident in yourself and in each other.
19:35Has it switched on, Abs?
19:38Was it not on?
19:39She didn't turn it on.
19:41At least she knew there was something wrong.
19:43Yeah, that is true.
19:44Two, one, two.
19:45So, from last year when I was singing on my own to now, it's a new lease of confidence.
19:54It's just gone.
19:58Apart from the speaker not being on, the sound check was great.
20:03But we're going to do another song with the speaker on.
20:05Hopefully I'll be able to hear it better this time.
20:07We won't keep going on about it.
20:09OK, thanks.
20:10Before when I was singing on my own, performing in front of people was always really nerve wracking.
20:14I would never speak.
20:15I would never introduce myself.
20:17But now, with the carver chicks, I find I'm the one that's doing all the talking.
20:21It's like a whole different me.
20:23It's strange.
20:24With just half an hour left before the guests start to arrive...
20:28No panic.
20:28Don't panic.
20:29I know, I was talking to myself for looking at you.
20:35Hello.
20:36Her roadie, sorry, her dad, Steve, needs to whisk her home.
20:40Try and have a quick shower, shave and something.
20:43You've got to get ready.
20:44I've got to get ready.
20:45So we're going to be running late, I should think.
20:47Yes.
20:47So there you go.
20:48You'd better not be.
20:50Can't keep the bride and groom waiting.
20:53Coming up.
20:54This is the most inconspicuous I've ever been in my life.
20:56Undercover ants poised to spring a surprise.
20:59They're literally just there.
21:02They're that close.
21:03I can smell them.
21:05And things get emotional at Pat's swanky soiree.
21:10You really decide it.
21:11You do such a great job.
21:13With...
21:15I'm sorry.
21:16I'm sorry.
21:26I'll tell you what.
21:27I'll give you five for that one.
21:29OK.
21:30It's a deal.
21:31Yeah.
21:31Well done.
21:33Who sought car boots banging out the bargains today?
21:36Thank you very much, darling.
21:38Some stalls are kindly donating all profits to help with Pat's toughest challenge yet.
21:44How's it gone then, guys?
21:45Yeah.
21:46Very good.
21:47Good care.
21:48Very good.
21:49The electric items have moved well today.
21:52Brick-a-brack.
21:53Pretty good.
21:54Pretty good.
21:55That's aiming to build new kennels.
21:57And she wants to race 700 euros today to kick it off.
22:01Sales wise...
22:02We're so busy.
22:03Yeah, yeah.
22:04No time for counting money, but it's roughly 225.
22:07And have those bodice rippers been bestsellers today then?
22:10Let's see what they've done.
22:12200 euros.
22:14Oh, wow.
22:15200 euros.
22:17Wow, wow, wow.
22:19So we're really pleased with that.
22:20Oh, thank you so much.
22:22Oh, thank you for inviting us.
22:24Oh, 200 euros.
22:26Woo!
22:27Oh, wow.
22:28Yeah.
22:29Turns out us Brits can't get our hands on those racy reeds fast enough.
22:33Hi, guys.
22:34Are we right to do the draw now?
22:37Fabulous.
22:37Draw the number between one of 50.
22:40One of 50.
22:41And the winner is...
22:42Number 32.
22:4432.
22:45Who's 32?
22:4732 is Little Sue.
22:49Little Sue's won the booze!
22:52Yay!
22:53All back to Little Sue's tonight then.
22:56How much have you raised today then after expenses for all those?
23:00Um, 145.
23:02Wow, wow.
23:04Thank you so much.
23:06Good going.
23:07But would it be enough to get them to the target?
23:09Chop down.
23:11Fantastic, as always.
23:12Perfect.
23:13And I'll see you in...
23:14For a drink now.
23:16For a drink now.
23:18We're going to the pub.
23:20That's a wrap.
23:21That's Dream Team are off to Car Boot HQ.
23:24Er, that's the bar.
23:25To tot up the takings.
23:27Hiya.
23:28Hiya.
23:35Hiya.
23:40Yay!
23:41Yay!
23:41Yay!
23:42You've smashed it.
23:43Well done team.
23:44800.
23:45Oh, five of them Christopher makes it 800 euros!
23:49Woooo!
23:51That covers a week's kennel costs plus a tidy sum towards the new build.
23:56Fantastic.
23:56Oh guys, we've had a great day haven't we?
23:58800 euros.
23:59Come on, change in.
24:02But don't get too comfy.
24:03There's still plenty more needed.
24:05And for that, Pat will be relying on a fancy fundraiser in Canelo Brick Haves.
24:10Talk about digging deep.
24:17Sun.
24:18Sea.
24:19Porn.
24:20Just three words that sum up the costas for many of us Brits.
24:24But there are, of course, plenty of others.
24:26Chaos.
24:28Nuts.
24:30Crazy.
24:31It's crazy out here.
24:33Therapeutic.
24:34Laid back.
24:35That's hyphenated, Andy, but we'll let you off.
24:38If I had to choose a word, it would be amazing.
24:41Chief.
24:43Buildings.
24:44Buildings?
24:44Yeah, they're different.
24:46You're not wrong, Heidi.
24:48Vibrant.
24:49Atmosphere.
24:49Awesome.
24:50Welcoming.
24:51Friendship.
24:53Spain is fantastic.
24:57And so say all of us.
24:58And I'm sure Ant would agree.
25:03So the plan now is to try and hide for as long as I can.
25:07And maybe watch the girls playing a bit of gold.
25:09On the Costa Blanca.
25:11And I've got me disguise.
25:13So I'm thinking if I put this on, none of them would realise it's me.
25:17Excuse me, sir.
25:18Have you seen Ant?
25:19He's flown in on a covert mission to surprise his close friend Denise on her 78th birthday.
25:26I feel like it's back to catch you.
25:30This will probably be her last year celebrating her birthday with us in Spain,
25:33because she's going back to the UK as well herself.
25:36Denise and the ladies here today used to be in Ant's fitness group,
25:40which he ran in Spain for 15 years before moving to the Costa del Sol.
25:45That's Denise at the back.
25:47What's really lovely is the fact that we're all here today,
25:50and even though in theory I'm not,
25:53I've still managed through everything I've built up the last 15 years
25:56to keep them socialising together and that to me is a job well done.
26:00They're getting older and with a lot of the women who lost the men,
26:04fundamentally the social side of Fat Fighters is the main reason
26:07we're now a community social club.
26:10But Ant, Denise has been a loyal support throughout the years.
26:15I feel like a peeping Tom.
26:17Yes, Ant, you look a bit like one.
26:22I tell you, this is the most inconspicuous I've ever been in my life.
26:26Only one of the party knows Ant is here to show he cares.
26:29His mole, Angie.
26:31Well, since the ball's just come to my chin,
26:34I have to hide behind the tree. Hello.
26:35Hello, darling.
26:37She don't know you're here.
26:38I'm just going to ask if she's having a nice birthday.
26:40Oh, look.
26:40All right.
26:41And she's worked like an undercover crusader...
26:44Denise?
26:44..to ensure the birthday girl is blissfully unaware of Ant's presence.
26:49How are you doing?
26:49They're all here now.
26:52Fucking dad's army.
26:55They're literally just there. They're that close.
26:59I can smell them.
27:00Right.
27:01We're up there, are we?
27:02No, she's still up there.
27:04Angie's been a fantastic mole.
27:06I never knew she had it in her.
27:07She's been great.
27:08It's like we're working undercover for them, I see.
27:12Got her back right to us.
27:15It's almost time for 00 Ant to complete his mission.
27:19There we go now.
27:22Go on, darling.
27:24Very close.
27:32We're going to get her now.
27:33Shall we get her?
27:35That was a foul, that one.
27:38What are you doing here?
27:40Hello?
27:42Hello?
27:42Hello?
27:47Hiya.
27:50When did you come?
27:52I landed about half eight this morning.
27:54I'm in need for a couple of hours out.
27:56Hiya.
27:56Thank God.
27:57Hello.
27:57Happy birthday.
28:03Do they all know you're here?
28:04No.
28:05Is that why Angie came over?
28:06Angie knows.
28:07And said stop where you are.
28:08She's been my MIC.
28:10Isn't that nice?
28:11I know.
28:12I could not come and see you.
28:13Best birthday present ever.
28:15You could have easily.
28:17Don't care if I don't win you.
28:18You just haven't finished your shot yet.
28:19Oh, stop that.
28:22Just the most fantastic surprise ever.
28:25Ant's turned up.
28:26And I was ringing him last night.
28:28And I was ringing him on the course this morning.
28:30Hello.
28:31Oh, hello.
28:32And I've been taking photos to send to him.
28:35He's here.
28:37Let's see what we can do now.
28:39Looks like Ant's surprise went down like a hole in one.
28:43Yes!
28:44Two!
28:45Hey!
28:46He's a young lad and he's got to get on and do what he has to do.
28:49And he's doing fantastic, which is good.
28:52We're all very proud of him.
28:54Winner!
28:56With Ant only on a 24-hour whistle-stop break from his job selling homes on the Costa del Sol.
29:02Surprise, surprise!
29:04There's just time to drink to the birthday girl's health before he has to dash off again.
29:09Happy birthday to you!
29:12Happy birthday to you!
29:15Thank you!
29:17I love the rest of the other ladies, but Genzie's always had a little place in my heart.
29:22And you see the shock on her face.
29:23It was well worth the lack of sleep and all the travelling.
29:26We'll see you all soon.
29:27See you later!
29:29Bye!
29:30Bye!
29:31Bye!
29:32This day isn't over yet.
29:34In Benidorm, he's got another licence to thrill mission planned.
29:45Oh my God, Sky, your bedroom!
29:48In Arbolayos...
29:49The kids, they're not even dressed yet.
29:51So, it's going to be all go, go, go, go, go.
29:54Cafe manager and single mum Kayleigh needs to get her family ready for her first paid gig at a friend's
30:00wedding.
30:01I hear it's a similar story round at Beyonce's.
30:04Please help me out of here, Charles.
30:05What are you going to wear?
30:07Her mum and dad are on hand to help wrangle Kayleigh's kids, Jackson and Sky.
30:11How are we having their hair?
30:14Pigtails?
30:15Pony...
30:16Ponytail?
30:16I want two ponytails!
30:18You want two ponytails?
30:19That's Nanny's job, then.
30:19That's not my job, that's Nanny's job.
30:21Yeah!
30:21Come on, Steve, you can manage a couple of bunches.
30:24If tonight's gig goes well for Kayleigh and her girl group, the Carver Chicks, it could
30:29be the start of a successful career on the costas.
30:32I've got my Carver Chick dress ready, but it looks like it might need a little bit of
30:36an iron, so I might have to improvise a little bit.
30:39But getting a four-year-old ready for a wedding reception...
30:42Do you think flowers?
30:43No.
30:43...is a three-person job.
30:45Right, Mummy's going to go and get dressed now, OK?
30:48And you're going to get changed into the other outfit.
30:50No.
30:51OK, Phil!
30:52I'll get one of them.
30:53Why not?
30:55But this one's too small, babe.
30:56No.
30:57It's too small, look.
30:58You're showing your bum.
31:00No.
31:00I can see your bum.
31:01No, you can't.
31:02Turn around.
31:04You can't.
31:04Turn around.
31:05I'll leave it to you and Nanny to discuss, yeah?
31:09No.
31:10And Nanny's going to win like Nanny normally does.
31:12Yep, if anyone can, my money will be on Nanny.
31:15Just going to grab Skye and have a fight and get her changed.
31:18She's hiding.
31:21There you go.
31:22Right, you'll hear her scream.
31:26I don't want to!
31:28Let's go.
31:28Come on, Chica.
31:29Come on.
31:31Let's go.
31:31No!
31:33It makes it more stressful before a gig if the kids are playing up.
31:36No!
31:37If they're in one of their little moods.
31:39No!
31:39My stress levels just go mad and I'm like, am I going to be able to do it tonight?
31:43The kids are playing up.
31:44Am I going to be able to put on the best show I can?
31:46This is why we're always late, isn't it, Skye?
31:49Because we're always doing something different.
31:52Little diva, aren't you?
31:53It's hard work when you've got to get yourself ready, your kids ready, but that's what mums
31:57are for.
31:59Thanks, Mum.
32:00I'm coming.
32:01I'm coming.
32:01But the delays are taking their toll.
32:03Are we almost there?
32:05No.
32:05Running late.
32:06We should have been near 15 minutes to go.
32:08But, you know, girls and their make-up, you can't rush these sort of things.
32:10You'll have to.
32:12Kayleigh's due on stage.
32:13Mummy!
32:15Mummy!
32:17Okay, let's go.
32:18One, two, three, four.
32:19One, two, three, four.
32:21I'm coming.
32:21Finally, now all Kayleigh needs is to wow a crowd of 100 people at her girl group gig.
32:28Okay, you all in.
32:29Slap team.
32:30Slap team.
32:35Okay, let's go!
32:37Woohoo!
32:38Makes wrangling a toddler sound easy.
32:41I'm starting to get nervous now.
32:45Come on, Poppy, eat your dinner.
32:46I did say when I got to three dogs, fostering them and then adopting them, that that was
32:51it.
32:52But now I've got six, so who's to say I want to have seven?
32:58You've heard the expression charity begins at home.
33:00Lifelong pooch lover Pat's taking it literally.
33:03I've got glasses for outside, dustbin bags, banners.
33:08She's already made a decent start with the car boot, but now this Cumbrian lass is hoping
33:13to up the stakes by hosting a fancy gala and raffle in Canelobre caves.
33:18Oh wow, here we are.
33:20I hope to earn two and a half thousand euros, which will be fabulous.
33:25With one of the highest domed caves in Spain, the massive cathedral vault chamber is a spectacular
33:31backdrop for tonight's swanky soiree.
33:34It's so nice to see you.
33:36Look at you look amazing.
33:37Thank you very much.
33:39You're the winning ticket.
33:41You're the winning ticket.
33:42Okay, we've done our best.
33:44Everything's ready.
33:45We'll get the guys in and take as much money from them as we can.
33:48Aren't we very, very lucky to perform in such an amazing place?
33:53If anyone can help Pat pocket money, money, money, it's tonight's headliners.
33:58I'd like to pay 2,000 euros for one of your kennels, because you really deserve it.
34:03You do such a great job with...
34:08A thousand euros should really help Pat's dream come true.
34:13Oh, how wonderful.
34:19I'm having a wonderful time.
34:21What's not to like?
34:23Absolutely fantastic evening.
34:25You know, it's just so lovely to see that everybody just wants to help and support them.
34:30Goodbye, God bless.
34:32So, for tickets and raffle sales, where are we at, Pat?
34:36My word.
34:38Tonight, we have raised 3,551 euros.
34:44And that's not all.
34:45Pledges have been coming in all evening.
34:48So, 8,000 euros of the pledges for the kennels.
34:53The final figure of 11 and a half grand towards the new site is four times what Pat wanted to
34:59raise.
35:00I am absolutely ecstatic at the amount that we've raised.
35:04It's a fantastic amount and I'm thrilled.
35:07I won't be able to sleep tonight.
35:08A much deserved round of a pause.
35:11Save us the last dance, Pat.
35:13And four years on, those kennels are up and running and there are now rumblings of a cattery.
35:19Come back, Abba.
35:22Coming up.
35:23Hello, plenty of job.
35:25A surprise for Ant on the last leg of his tour.
35:28I said you were like Liza Minnelli when I saw you on the thing.
35:31A bit more like Cher now.
35:34And the big moment has come.
35:35La, la, la, la, la, la, la.
35:38Right, ready.
35:38As Kayleigh takes the stage.
35:40Try and smash it as much as I can.
35:55My friends are my life.
35:57They're the family you choose.
36:00Ant's final Costa Blanca rendezvous is with an old pal in bustling Benidorm.
36:05I feel fresh.
36:06I feel like I've just done 12 hours on a waterbed.
36:09And with only a few hours left of his whistle stop visit, there's nowhere better to finish up.
36:14Oh, I love Benidorm.
36:16I'll have red light spells danger on in a minute.
36:18I'll be dancing on tables thinking I'm 21 again.
36:21The only problem is I'm not 21, so I don't know how to get back off the bleeding table.
36:26Carefully, Ant. That's how.
36:28Hello, Benidorm.
36:30Hola, Ant.
36:31Having recently moved to the Costa del Sol for work, Ant's miss spending time with his old mates.
36:37I've had an action-packed day.
36:39I literally had a 24-hour window.
36:41And I'm here today in Benidorm to say a big hello to me very good friend, Dola.
36:45The last time I saw Dola, she was a size 20, but she's now a size 12.
36:50And the new thing with me is I lost the ability to walk uneeded.
36:55So we've had quite a year like this.
37:04Black chicken.
37:07Hello.
37:08Oh, look at you.
37:09What's it all?
37:12Dola has had a difficult and life-changing year.
37:15She lost her husband.
37:17Her husband had dementia for the last couple of years of his life.
37:20When I saw her about a year ago, she was like a shell of herself.
37:24She'd always been so glamorous.
37:25To see you, Ant.
37:26And with support from friends like Ant.
37:28Oh.
37:29Dola has reinvented herself.
37:31I said you were like Liza Minnelli when I saw you on the thing.
37:35Bit more like Cher now.
37:37Oh, bless you.
37:37Dola, you look fabulous.
37:41I haven't seen Anthony for ages.
37:43He's very special.
37:44I've known him for about 10 years now.
37:46And he's always been there for me.
37:48He always phones me.
37:50But he doesn't come to Ben and Jump as much now,
37:52because he's busy with work.
37:54To see you now, I was looking at pictures the other day,
37:57and I'm like,
37:58God, isn't she big?
38:00And now...
38:01I've changed now.
38:02I can see you've got confidence in yourself.
38:05Yeah, I'm a lot happier now.
38:06I've not showed you my new tattoo.
38:08Oh, look at that.
38:08Look at that.
38:09Forget-me-not flowers.
38:11Forget-me-not.
38:11It's the UK symbol for dementia.
38:14Dementia, that's right.
38:15This is very special to me.
38:17No, I get that.
38:17I was married for 30 years.
38:19I will never forget him.
38:20He was a lovely man.
38:21He was.
38:22It's took a few months, but I'm happier now.
38:25I'm getting myself back together again.
38:28How's your health now with the walking stick and everything?
38:31Well, I'm on new medication.
38:33Is it working?
38:33And it's working, thank God.
38:35Yeah.
38:35It's just today has been so, so long.
38:40The last time I saw Dola, I'd just been diagnosed with the arthritis.
38:45Erm, I could hardly walk.
38:48And although I use the stick now, just more of an assurance, really,
38:52because I don't know where my legs are going to go.
38:54New medication and new life, a bit like yourself.
38:56Yeah.
38:56But I've had, like, 15 years of just dancing around in a little pair of shorts
39:01and having a good time.
39:02Yeah.
39:02And now I've got to work for my money.
39:04And finding the time to see old friends has to be grabbed with both hands.
39:09I've gone up and down, left and right and all over the costas.
39:12But just to catch up and to know that she's happy in her new body today, she's OK.
39:19I'm ready to go home now.
39:21Safe travels, Ant.
39:28OK, we're here, guys.
39:30Yay!
39:32And by the skin of your teeth.
39:34In El Maria, singer Kayleigh's due on stage in just half an hour.
39:39Stop.
39:39Shh.
39:40Mum.
39:41Mummy.
39:42Right, just wait there, cos I've got to get all my stuff out of the car.
39:44It's the first paid booking for her and her girl group.
39:48It's nearly showtime and I am getting a little bit nervous.
39:52Right, come on then, let's go.
39:53Kayleigh and bandmates Abby and Emma are debuting in front of 100 people
39:57at their friend's wedding party.
40:00Just try and smash it as much as I can.
40:02We're a little bit late, but I don't think anyone would have missed us yet.
40:06They need to impress the crowd tonight if they want to get more bookings to perform.
40:11Hello.
40:11You all right? How are you?
40:13Yeah.
40:13Good.
40:15Busy?
40:16Yeah.
40:16Good. Always.
40:18Good.
40:18What I like to see.
40:20Bandmates Emma and Abby have other jobs at the wedding reception.
40:24Hello.
40:25You all right? I'll give you a quick kiss.
40:26OK.
40:27Mwah.
40:28Mwah.
40:29They work at the bar and know they're regulars well.
40:32Can I have a bit of beef bourguignon?
40:34Por favor.
40:35But if tonight goes well, it could be the first step in the trio performing full time.
40:42I'm feeling extremely nervous now, but I know as soon as I'm on stage I'll be OK.
40:47More nervous than excited now.
40:49I'm really excited.
40:52Just in a bit of lip gloss and a bit of perfume, and then I'm ready.
