00:01Around 11 a.m. today, police were called to Shell Harbour Beach South and other
00:07emergency services in response to two people having difficulty in the water.
00:13Members of the public assisted a 66 year old male and a 64 year old female and
00:21pulled them from the water, assisted them from the water and commenced CPR.
00:27A short time later emergency services were on scene including New South Wales ambulance
00:32and took over CPR. Unfortunately and sadly both the couple and our married couple were
00:43unable to be revived and died at the scene. I want to take the opportunity to commend some
00:48members of the public in particular who assisted in the initial response including two female
00:54off-duty nurses and a young male who pulled the couple from the water and gave the couple the
01:01best chance of survival. Although a tragic outcome today, their efforts are to be commended
01:07and really did give the couple the best chance. This is a timely reminder of the dangers and
01:14unpredictability of the ocean. It's a tragic incident and our heart goes out to the family
01:20of the family who has lost their loved ones today.
