00:00Qatar is warning that the Middle East is now facing a regional war,
00:03saying it had cautioned for years.
00:05Unchecked escalation could lead to catastrophic consequences.
00:09Speaking to the media, Qatar's foreign affairs spokesperson, Dr. Majid Al Ansari,
00:13said that the war can still be contained, but the current trajectory is very dangerous.
00:18Back in January, he said if tensions in the region continued to rise unchecked,
00:22it could lead to what he described as, quote, catastrophic results.
00:26Today, I reminded him of that warning and asked whether he ever imagined the situation would escalate this far.
00:32As you rightly have mentioned, we have warned in Qatar for many years now
00:37that escalation left unchecked and the region would lead to catastrophic results.
00:42We are at that moment where we are seeing the catastrophic results across the region.
00:46Right now, as we speak, you can put a map of the region in front of you
00:50and you will not be able to find a finger-pointing space where escalation is not happening.
00:55This is exactly what we have said from day one.
00:58This is the biggest I told you so in the history of I told you so in the world.
01:01We have said from day one, left unchecked,
01:04the escalation that started in 2023 would lead to a regional war.
01:09Dr. Al Ansari warned that attacks on energy facilities on both sides set a very dangerous precedent.
01:15He said targeting this kind of infrastructure doesn't just threaten the region,
01:19but could have serious ripple effects for the global economy
01:21and urged the international community to push all sides in the conflict to stop targeting these facilities.
01:27In another major announcement, answering a question from Euronews,
01:31Qatar's Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesperson also welcomed the European Union's efforts
01:36and solidarity with Qatar and other Gulf countries.
01:39I think the partnership between Europe and the GCC has proven its worth in this crisis.
01:44And this is a time, you know, when you know your friends
01:48and the worth of the friendship and the partnership that you have with them.
01:50And I think Europe has proven its worth many times during this conflict.
01:54Just minutes after the Foreign Affairs briefing ended,
01:57another national emergency alert sounded in Qatar.
02:00The Ministry of Defense says it intercepted a ballistic missile targeting the country.
