00:03Working or being in a prison is a really intense thing.
00:08You just don't wanna be in jail.
00:10It goes to this other level.
00:12It's an adrenaline drip, constantly dripping,
00:15and, you know, you gotta find
00:16who's gonna help you survive.
00:18And then just being there,
00:19you're gonna dream about getting out.
00:27Craig, now pull out into Vinicio.
00:30And action!
00:32Escape at Dannemora
00:33is about two inmates,
00:35Richard Matt and David Sweat,
00:37who, with the help of a civilian worker,
00:40Joyce Mitchell, escaped
00:41out of Clinton Correctional
00:43in June of 2015.
00:45What drew me to the story was the reality
00:47of the story. And at the core of it
00:49is a twisted,
00:52twisted love story.
00:54Did you have sex with these two inmates?
00:56No.
00:58Richard Matt was a smart man.
01:00He's a manipulator, a bully,
01:02and that's how he gets what he wants.
01:04But probably the only person
01:06he can trust in that jail is David Sweat.
01:08I wanna be a part of your dream.
01:10It's kind of like Richard Matt
01:12has the idea, and then
01:13David Sweat executes.
01:15You know, he has a facility,
01:16because I think he had the mind of an engineer.
01:19I just figured you're friends with my friend,
01:21and that makes his friends.
01:24Tilly is
01:25a married woman,
01:26but I think she's always wanted to feel alive.
01:29Whether it's in prison, whether it's in a marriage,
01:31how do you be free?
01:32If I didn't do anything wrong,
01:34I mean not really wrong.
01:36Going up to Dannemora,
01:38seeing the woods, the mountains, the hills,
01:41seeing the town, then seeing
01:42the prison and the prison wall,
01:44I don't think you know what it's like
01:46until you've been in.
01:47When you shoot in a real location,
01:50where a real event happened,
01:52there's a seriousness to it.
01:53It's scary, it's also exciting.
01:56My goal with the show was to have it be as accurate as possible,
01:59and I felt the best way to tell the story
02:00would be to have as many of the real people
02:02who actually went through it.
02:03So thank you to everybody who welcomed us here today,
02:06and I just want to say you guys did an incredible job,
02:09so thank you very much.
02:10The fact that it's true,
02:12it's really a sensational story,
02:14and I think that's what makes this show unique.
02:17Wouldn't it be convenient
02:18to be the only person who lives to tell the story?
