00:01Gateshead Central Library is celebrating its 100th anniversary with a series of drop-in events
00:07showcasing how it serves the community. The library, which opened in 1926 with books and
00:13newspapers, now includes computers and a maker place with three-dimensional printers and laser
00:20cutters. Service manager Rachel Ridley said the library has always been at the heart of the
00:25community and highlighted its history, including a boarded-up glass ceiling during World War
00:31II. Visitors can take part in creative sessions, author events and workshops, learning both
00:38traditional reading and emerging technologies, while enjoying the restored historical features
00:43of the building.
