00:03Eight people were charged on Tuesday in the Butterworth Sessions Court,
00:07with being members of the organized crime group known as Geng Adik Labu Basar.
00:12No pleas were recorded from the accused after the charges were read out before Judge Roslan Hamid
00:17as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
00:21The accused are
00:37They are alleged to have been active members of the gang between March and October last year
00:43at Vista Perdana, Jalan Kampunggaja, Butterworth.
00:47During proceedings, the prosecutor did not offer bail,
00:50citing the Security Offences, Special Measures, Act 2012, or SOSMA,
00:56which requires the case to be heard in the High Court.
00:59Defense counsel Manjit Singh Man applied for bail for his client,
01:03but Judge Roslan ruled that bail could only be sought at the High Court.
01:08He fixed May 4 for the next mention and submission of documents.
01:13The gang is believed to have been involved in at least 42 house break-ins across Penang,
01:18causing losses of nearly one million ringgit.
01:21Police say all those arrested have prior criminal records,
01:25including armed robbery, theft, housebreaking, causing injuries,
01:29possession of stolen goods and drug abuse.
