00:00Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor will keep one of his few remaining honours after a review determined it could not be removed.
00:10The Freedom of the City of London, which allows recipients to walk sheep across London Bridge,
00:19is typically awarded to individuals nominated by the City of London Corporation councillors.
00:26Mountbatten-Windsor inherited the status as a child of a freeman, meaning the entitlement was obtained through a legal right
00:36rather than through nomination.
00:38That inheritance came from his father, Prince Philip.
00:42The corporation said that applications made through patrimony are not considered by elected members.
00:49It's added that it had carefully examined whether it would be possible to revoke a freedom granted in this way
00:57and had determined that it did not have the authority to remove it.
01:04The former prince was stripped of his royal titles, styles and honours by King Charles last year.
01:11After further details of his relationship with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein came to light.
01:18So what do Londoners think about Mountbatten-Windsor keeping his titles?
01:23Does it really mean anything or are they just meaningless honours?
01:28Yeah, yeah, I don't know.
01:30Yeah, I'm just like, yeah, get rid of it.
01:31But I'm just like, is that really what matters?
01:33You know what I mean?
01:33Like, I kind of think like, it's just an honour.
01:38Like, let's just like, just crack on and just do what they need to do rather than worrying about the
01:46honour.
01:47Well, I mean, does it really matter?
01:49Because at the end of the day, he's probably going to go to jail, isn't he?
01:51I mean, because this stuff that he's done with giving away, you know, government secrets, that's one thing.
01:58But so, I mean, maybe it'll feel sort of make some people feel better.
02:02But I think he's in terrible trouble.
02:05So it's probably...
02:06It's just, it's just a title, isn't it?
02:09And I think, I'm like, probably more important to just cut him off.
02:15Like, money, that's more what matters than like an empty title.
02:18It'd be more important, you know, is he still getting money from the royal family?
02:20I don't know.
02:21Still getting taxpayer money?
02:23I don't think he should be getting that.
02:25Well, I mean, if they can't rescind it, they can't rescind it, right?
02:27Yeah.
02:27So what do you do?
02:29It's sort of an...
02:30I mean, if they can't, they can't, right?
02:32So I suppose you just move on.
02:33I think, I mean, from a royal family's perspective, you know, they've got to basically somehow sort of put him
02:41aside, right?
02:41And move on with the business of trying to make themselves meaningful.
02:47So I think that's a bigger task, isn't it?
02:50And maybe William will do a good job.
02:51Who knows?
02:52But yeah, I think they just got to cast it.
02:54They got to cut him loose, mate.
02:55I mean, you make your beard, you line it, right?
