00:00St George's Hall Charitable Trust has announced Richard Mossman as the winner of the Mary Seacole Commission.
00:07His maquette design will be realised as a monumental marble statue permanently installed in the Great Hall.
00:13Selected from a group of finalists, the jury praised the model for its artistic quality and emotional resonance,
00:19reflecting the original vision.
00:22Mossman, a Merseyside-born sculptor, has previously produced notable marble and bronze portraits.
00:28The maquette is on display in the Stable Gallery until Sunday the 28th of March.
00:34The statue will be the first depicting a black person and only the second of a woman in St George's
00:40Hall,
00:40marking a historic commission for the city.
