00:00The U.S.-Israeli war against Iran is unpopular with many Americans.
00:06But Trump voter Loretta Torres says that while she fears the conflict could spin out of control,
00:12she trusts the U.S. president is acting judiciously.
00:16I feel comfortable with what he has planned or what he has in store.
00:21Torres, a 38-year-old mother from near Houston, Texas,
00:25is one of eight Trump voters Reuters has spoken to since the Iran war broke out.
00:31All eight opposed the idea of sending substantial U.S. ground forces to Iran
00:36or getting involved in a prolonged effort of establishing new leadership.
00:41I hope we don't stay over there for years and months and months and years like we did in Afghanistan,
00:46because I know they were there for a long time and there was really no timeline of when they were
00:50going to come back home.
00:51Five Trump voters said they fully supported the air and sea attacks as the only way to prevent Iran
00:57from stockpiling long-range and nuclear missiles.
01:01And three were less clear about why the administration started the conflict.
01:06Torres, however, says that Trump was being proactive with what she called Iran's, quote,
01:12threats towards the U.S.
01:14And I believe that Trump was trying to get ahead of the game.
01:18Democrats and even prominent conservative commentators have expressed skepticism about this,
01:24citing the administration's varying explanations for the war.
01:27Why is he plunging America headfirst into a war that Americans do not want and which he cannot even explain?
01:36Trump has offered numerous explanations for the bombing campaign.
01:40If we didn't do it, they were going to attack first.
01:44And estimated the strikes could last weeks.
01:47Whatever the time is, it's OK, whatever it takes.
01:50He'd also cautioned there will likely be more U.S. casualties
01:53and dismissed concerns about surging oil and gas prices.
01:58Help keep down the oil prices.
