For many people, housing is front of mind heading into the polling booth. But for some voters it's not just about houses but how they can get from those homes to places like work. Transport and congestion are shaping up to be a priority issue for voters this election.

00:02If public transport in South Australia's Adelaide Hills region fails to improve, Rachel Snowball says she'll have to leave.
00:09In the future, I won't be able to stay here.
00:12She's 28 and has epilepsy so she can't drive. And buses and expensive taxis don't always work.
00:19Ever since I moved up here, it's been very challenging.
00:22The Adelaide Hills used to have passenger rail, but it stopped in 1987. Now there's only public buses.
00:29John Hill wants rail to return to improve accessibility and get cars off the freeway.
00:34Any incidents you've got now, they're not going to just double, they'll be full fault.
00:39And the safety issues associated with that are enormous, particularly with that freeway.
00:43Several Adelaide Hills residents have raised it as a key concern via the ABC's pre-election forum, Your Say.
00:50It's also a hot topic in other regional areas.
00:53Peter in Murray Bridge says access to public buses is the top issue.
00:58While Brenda in Loxton wants better rail and ferry services to regional towns.
01:03In areas like Gawler, Thomas wants more buses.
01:07And Anthony says trains to new developments like Dry Creek and Concordia are key.
01:12In the city, Linda in Goodwood wants policies to get people using public transport.
01:17The Transport Action Network agrees, especially as population and congestion increases.
01:23You can't kind of build your way out of it with more roads.
01:27You actually have to think about the diversity of transport options.
01:32So that's public transport.
01:33Some of the policies on offer from Labor and the Liberals.
01:37We've got a policy for 50 cent fares for anyone who's on a train, tram or bus in Adelaide Metro.
01:43The majority of people stay in the hills or they go up further into Murray Bridge.
01:48And that's why we've invested there as well to make sure that we can get public transport to Murray Bridge
01:53with the MetroCart.
01:55While transport, and especially public transport, is on the minds of many voters,
02:00the major parties have largely had their focus elsewhere,
02:03with most of the commitments so far relating to housing and cost of living.
