00:00Senator, you've talked a lot about our efficacy in striking sites within Iran, military sites in Iran.
00:05There is some concerning controversy surrounding a bombing of an elementary school, a girls' elementary school, in Iran on the
00:10first day of the war.
00:11Let's take a listen to what the president had to say to a reporter on the plane yesterday about that.
00:15Based on what I've seen, that was done by Iran.
00:19Is that true, Mr. Nixon? It was Iran who did that?
00:22We're certainly investigating.
00:24Still investigating?
00:25But the only side that targets civilians is Iran.
00:30And that assessment that this was done by Iran runs counter to what news organizations, including The New York Times,
00:35have put together looking at all of the visual evidence.
00:37I'm curious sort of how you see this proceeding from your vantage on the Armed Services Committee.
00:41Do you anticipate hearings?
00:43Are you confident in that investigation that's going to take place by the Pentagon here in the minute we have
00:46left?
00:49Yeah, number one, nobody in the United States targets civilians.
00:54We just simply, we don't do that, and particularly children.
01:00Iran does.
01:01So do you think it was an accident?
01:02They're a terrorist organization.
01:04Don't know for sure what happened.
01:06Right now.
01:07Excuse me.
01:08What we do know is that we do a better job of actually laying out what actually does happen once
01:13we complete an investigation.
01:15We don't know whether that was sitting right next to a very sensitive military site, whether or not the Iranians
01:19built something right next to a school with the intent of trying to protect that military site.
01:24So let us do the investigation.
01:27Let us lay this thing out.
01:28The one thing that you do know is that in the United States, we will do a good job of
01:32looking at it.
01:34But most importantly, we do our best with our strategic weapon systems, with our very capable smart weapon systems to
01:41avoid doing damage.
01:42But when you have this type of a conflict, unfortunately, there are times in which civilians are hit.
01:49We don't like it.
01:50We don't want it.
01:51Thank you, Senator.
01:52Sometimes it happens very unfortunately.
