00:01Next on MasterChef, for their latest challenge,
00:04the remaining 10 best home cooks in America
00:06had to replicate a Kat Cora signature dish.
00:09So far, only Tracy has impressed the judges.
00:12I think it's a dish that you could serve in a restaurant.
00:15Whoever plates the worst dish
00:16will have to leave the MasterChef kitchen.
00:30Jake, let's go.
00:32I was proud to carry that dish up
00:34and present it to these amazing chefs.
00:37I think for really the first time in this competition,
00:40I was like, there's nothing I would change about that dish.
00:46Wow.
00:47Now, that's absolutely beautiful.
00:50You definitely listen to what I said about
00:54a good balance to the sauce up.
00:56I see some moistness there.
00:58The sauce, and I don't know the taste,
01:00I'm gonna taste it right now,
01:01but the sauce is absolutely stunning.
01:10Not too thick, not too runny.
01:13Seasoning is amazing.
01:16Well, guess what, Jake?
01:17It worked, and you rocked it.
01:20Good job.
01:25Okay, Whitney, let's go.
01:28I definitely did not feel very good or confident
01:31about what I had prepared for them,
01:33and Kat Cora was tasting it,
01:35and I didn't want to let myself down,
01:37but her down knowing that, you know,
01:39I did a crappy job of making her dish.
01:42Hey, Whitney, how are you?
01:43Good.
01:46Let's see how you did on your dish.
01:51You know, the thing that I'm seeing with your sauce
01:53is a little bit...
01:54It's a little bit...
01:54It's actually a little running.
01:57I should not be able to, like, do that
01:59and have it run like that.
02:08Need seasoning.
02:10Anything can look gorgeous.
02:11You can put it in front of somebody.
02:12Taste is everything.
02:13You definitely need some seasoning on that, okay?
02:29The fish, you know, slightly overcooked.
02:33The actual salsa not really seasoned.
02:36You know, you had a really...
02:37a really good chance to make all these things sing,
02:41and instead they're just kind of...
02:43they're not even humming.
02:47It sucks so bad because I had just gotten the top
02:50of the cupcake challenge,
02:51and then I turned around,
02:53and I could see myself in the bottom three,
02:55and that's definitely not where I want to see myself,
02:58knowing there's elimination at the end of it.
03:02Okay, last but not least, Farouk.
03:05Let's go.
03:07So my confidence is high.
03:09I said, you know what?
03:10If this plate right here
03:12is going to put me in the bottom three,
03:14then I don't deserve to be here.
03:17Did you follow Jeff Kora's method?
03:19Yes, very organized.
03:21I've tried to follow it to the T as much as possible.
03:31I think that you definitely...
03:33There's a looseness to the sauce.
03:35Could have been a little bit thicker.
03:36Okay.
03:37That just comes from, you know,
03:38whisking it a little bit more
03:38and not rushing it too much.
03:40Um, the salsa,
03:41but just a little dry, you know?
03:43It's not a good mix of the seasoning and the oil.
03:47It's too bad, man.
03:52So it's a very thin slice of halibut.
03:55That could be your nemesis.
03:56It could come back and bite you on the butt
03:57because it can be overcooked instantly.
04:08Damn.
04:09The fish is dry and it sort of falls apart far too easily.
04:12We go through there and it's like, sort of,
04:15almost like a canned texture.
04:19And the sad news is you've got that dry skin on the tomatoes
04:21and it needs that oomph, that marinade and that salsa sort of excitement.
04:26And then sadly let down with the dryness of fish.
04:30What a shame.
04:37Before the elimination, Kat Cora, along with the MasterChef judges, select the best dish.
04:45Let's get to our winner.
04:49And we all agreed that it was the dish that was closest to Kat's in terms of presentation, execution, technique,
04:59and the whole plate coming together as one.
05:03Congratulations.
05:09Jake, well done.
05:15It was sort of like surreal.
05:17I'm like, okay, I'm pretty sure he just said Jake or at least something that rhymes with Jake.
05:21It's, it's awesome.
05:22So, uh, I was super stoked.
05:26Now that the judges have chosen the best dish, it's time to select the bottom three.
05:34And for one of those unfortunate chefs, their time in the MasterChef kitchen will come to an end.
05:43Okay.
05:45First dish.
05:48In the bottom three.
05:52Belongs to Mike.
05:53Let's go.
05:55That's right.
05:57I did not expect to see you here.
06:00How could you go from hero to zero in such a short space of time?
06:06Second person.
06:09To join Mike.
06:14Slim.
06:17Having had the demonstration live, I don't expect someone with your, uh, enthusiasm for food to forget.
06:24To strain a sauce.
06:26Joining Slim and Mike.
06:32I am terrified.
06:34If they call my name, I'd definitely know I'm just going to break down.
06:38It's definitely...
06:43Farouk.
06:44Let's go.
06:48For the second week in a row, Farouk finds himself in the bottom three.
06:52Yeah, I mean, like I literally felt by this point I was bleeding out.
06:56My dish wasn't one of the best today.
07:00But, you know, I don't, I don't think it was bottom three material.
07:05That fish died for a reason so that you could take it and put it in a pan and make
07:09it amazing.
07:10It's, it's so sad, it's almost unforgivable.
07:14You've got to do more than just dream about being a great chef.
07:17You've got to practice it and live it every day.
07:21Slim, I'm concerned about your one trick pony style cooking.
07:27Mike, you move a little bit too fast for your own good.
07:30And Farouk, you're lacking finesse.
07:35Okay, the person that is leaving MasterChef is...
07:53Farouk.
07:58Please take off your apron.
08:00Your time is done in MasterChef.
08:03Now, you follow your dream.
08:05You keep your head up high because you have come a long way in a very short time.
08:11It was a pleasure cooking here in this kitchen, meeting everybody.
08:15And it was a privilege to cook for y'all.
08:17You made your family proud, Farouk.
08:21When I walked off, there was no sorrow.
08:23You know, just, just being here, being a part of this whole MasterChef thing, man.
08:28The mentors that we were able to get, the advice that we were able to get.
08:32I mean, all that stuff was priceless.
08:34I grew so, so much just by making mistakes.
08:38The only thing that I'm extremely disappointed about is that I didn't get a chance to show what I could
08:44really do in the kitchen.
08:45I can cook, dammit.
08:47I can cook.
08:55The remaining 10 are about to be split into opposing teams for a challenge to satisfy some of the hungriest
09:02appetites in the country.
09:05You're going to be cooking for the backbone of America. Truckers.
09:09What the hell are you asking for?
09:11Dude, are you doing the burgers, right?
09:12No, you are.
09:13Oh, my God. I can't serve that dude.
09:16.
09:16I want to.
09:18The team that loses will face the dreaded pressure test, where one more contestant's dream of becoming America's first MasterChef
09:26will come to a bitter end.
09:39Nearly 100 miles from the pristine MasterChef kitchen, the remaining 10 competitors find themselves in the middle of the harsh
09:47wasteland of the California desert with no idea what today's challenge holds.
09:52You see desert on your left, and you see snow-capped mountains on your right, and a whole bunch of
09:58nothing, some abandoned buildings.
10:00Who knows what's going to happen?
10:02This is nuts, man.
10:04Okay.
10:08That's Gordon in the front seat.
10:12It is him.
10:16Hey.
10:20Okay.
10:22All right, good morning.
10:23Good morning.
10:24You've cooked for us.
10:25You even had the chance to cook for Cat Cora.
10:28But now it's time to cook for the people who are clearly the backbone of this country.
10:33Today, your challenge is to cook for 100 hungry-ass truck drivers.
10:39Yeah.
10:40You guys are going to make them the ultimate truck stop dish.
10:46Hamburgers.
10:46All right.
10:47All right.
10:49I was a trucker for many years, and I've spent certainly my fair share of time at truck stops.
10:55So it totally, you know, struck a chord with me.
10:57I was like, yeah, this is going to be cool.
10:59I can really dig in and get into this.
11:01Nothing says America like a hamburger.
11:03You've probably had 100 in your lifetime.
11:05I probably had 50 last week.
11:07I guarantee these truckers have had more.
11:09Some of them eat them every day of their lives.
11:12Today, you'll be competing in teams.
11:16A blue team versus a red team.
11:18Each team will have their own truck behind you, full of the most amazing ingredients.
11:22From chuck steak to pork to seasoning, everything you need to make that ultimate burger is in that truck.
11:31Now, you have to grind the meat yourselves.
11:35So therefore, you put the combination together.
11:37Whether it's beef, pork, lamb, that's your choice.
11:40Remember, these guys are long haul truckers.
11:43What's it going to take to win them over?
11:45Is it a gourmet burger?
11:46Is it a burger that has more of an Americana sensibility?
11:49So think about it very carefully.
11:51Jake, you clearly had the most stunning halibut dish in our last challenge.
11:57So therefore, you get to pick your team.
11:59Yes, Chef.
11:59Come over here, please, buddy.
12:00Take it!
12:03How are you feeling?
12:04I feel great.
12:04I'm going to ask for you to nominate the first member of your team.
12:08Okay.
12:09Jake, with his experience with beef, that's going to be the winning team in my mind.
12:13I wanted to be a part of that team so much.
12:16To me, it would be a huge advantage in this competition.
12:19First nominee is actually going to be Tracy.
12:22Oh, thank you, Jakey.
12:24I love this girl.
12:24She's awesome.
12:25She cooks with a lot of love, a lot of passion.
12:28Secondly, I'm going to go with this girl.
12:30She kind of struggled on her last challenge, and I want to try and help kind of build her back
12:35up, you know, on a personal level.
12:36So, Whitney, I want you to come over here, yeah?
12:38Thank you, too.
12:40Third choice, I feel like going into battle, I've got to have my guys on the ground that can lead
12:45the troops.
12:46And today, that's Lee.
12:47I want Lee on my team.
12:48Hi, Lee.
12:49Jake won the challenge.
12:50I immediately knew I'm not going to be on this team.
12:53We're both, I think, alphas, you know, and very dominant in our situations, like to do things our way.
12:59I'm just ready to go to battle, ready to go to war on this.
13:01So, the last pick, take a good look at them because it's your last.
13:08I've got to go with Tony.
13:10Wow.
13:10Tony and I were like peas and carrots in the kitchen.
13:13Okay.
13:13And he keeps me level and keeps me calm.
13:16I was psyched, you know, I felt we had a rock solid team.
13:18Good, good, good.
13:19Take one and pass them along.
13:20Put them on.
13:21Lightwise red team, take them on, pass them along.
13:23Jake believes he has picked the winning team by choosing Tracy, Whitney, Tony, and Lee.
13:29While the remaining cooks, Sharon, Shital, Slim, David, and Mike, by default, have become the underdogs.
13:36We're not the team that was picked.
13:39However, being an underdog is always extra motivation.
13:42Nothing to lose, something to prove.
13:44Each trucker will have a burger from the blue team and a burger from the red team.
13:49Whichever burger they prefer wins the challenge.
13:52The losing team will face a pressure test.
13:55And on the back of that pressure test, one of you will be eliminated from MasterChef.
13:59You'll all have 30 minutes prep time.
14:0230 minutes starting from now.
14:05Off you go.
14:06Right.
14:07Okay.
14:08In the truck.
14:09The teams have only 30 minutes before the truckers start to arrive.
14:12In this short time, they must first select their meats, buns, and toppings.
14:17And then, grind, season, and prep 100 patties for service.
14:21Right, blue team, burger, what is it?
14:23We're doing a, uh, we've got two different types of red meat going in here.
14:27What cuts of beef are going in here?
14:29We've got short rib.
14:29We've got short rib and short loin, too, yeah?
14:33Short loin.
14:33Any pork in there?
14:34No.
14:35Garnish the burger.
14:36What is it?
14:37Uh, butter lettuce.
14:38Yep.
14:39Uh, slice of onion.
14:40Yes.
14:40Slice of tomato.
14:42And, uh, a killer little, uh, slaw we got on the top.
14:44Okay.
14:44We're going with kind of a Route 66 burger.
14:47And top it with some killer slawing, you know, like the secret sauce, if you will.
14:50How are we doing, girls?
14:52We're great.
14:52Are you done?
14:53Okay.
14:53I'm getting ready to come and help.
14:54Let's get it out here, get it set up, ask what Lee needs for help, or help Whitney slice
14:58onions.
14:58Okay?
14:58Okay, got it.
14:59You girls start going on the meat.
15:01These are Americans.
15:02I think we should do 100% beef, eh?
15:31Just start.
15:32Uh, panko breadcrumbs.
15:34Yes.
15:34Uh, granulated onion powder, granulated garlic powder, and black pepper.
15:37And smoked paprika.
15:39Is there anything that's not in there?
15:40You put the blue cheese in the mix?
15:42Blue cheese in the mix.
15:43That's ambitious.
15:43I really love blue cheese.
15:46It gets beautifully melted and, you know, like you can see the spots.
15:50It looks real cool.
15:51You bite into it and it dribbles out.
15:52Red team, blue cheese inside the burger, and then a barbecue sauce.
15:57And bacon.
15:58No flavors make sense.
15:59I think the red team has definitely fallen prey to the celebrity chef burger syndrome.
16:04I want to.
16:09Ten minutes left, guys.
16:11Ten minutes left.
16:12I'm slicing up some short ribs, getting the meat ready with Jake here.
16:15Uh, we're doing a 50-50 combo with two cuts of meat.
16:18Kind of very Americana, but I think we're gonna pull this off today.
16:22Whenever you have some patties ready.
16:23Yeah, we're working on it right now.
16:25Right behind you.
16:27Jake took control.
16:28Tony, meat, Lee, this, Whitney, prep.
16:31You know, everybody got their jobs.
16:32Everybody just fell in line.
16:34We were a well-oiled machine.
16:38You guys are kicking ass.
16:39While the blue team remains calm and collected,
16:42the red team discovers a crucial problem with their beef and blue cheese patties.
16:46Oh, my God.
16:48I can't serve that, dude.
16:49It's leaking all over the grill.
16:51It's smoking everywhere.
16:52The blue cheese just gunked all over the place, got all over the griddle, melted through.
16:59It was a complete disaster.
17:01Yo, no blue cheese in the patty, please!
17:04Terrible.
17:05Yeah.
17:05Bad call, guys.
17:07No blue cheese.
17:08Put it in line.
17:09You got it.
17:09Two minutes left until the first trucker arrives.
17:13A hundred burgers each.
17:14Come on, dude.
17:15With only two minutes left, the blue team's burger station is in full swing.
17:19But on the red team, panic is taking hold as they scramble to prep a whole new batch of burgers.
17:26Uh, we need a lot more meat, guys.
17:28We're screwed.
17:29Just turn those out first, brother.
17:30Come on.
17:31Where's the salt and pepper?
17:32Have to salt and pepper this.
17:33I'll bring you salt.
17:34The red team at this point is in jeopardy of not having food when the truckers show up here in
17:37the next couple of minutes.
17:38Right.
17:39The blue team, judging from a dozen burgers on the grill and a set-up line, will have food to
17:43offer the truckers.
17:44Doesn't matter how good your food is if you can't get it made and put up in time.
17:48Okay, guys, I think we can see the first trucker coming now.
17:53It's utter chaos.
17:54Are you doing the buns?
17:55What's going on?
17:56We gotta do patties.
17:57Come on, guys!
17:58We're like, what the is going on right now?
18:08Here we go.
18:11Oh, my God.
18:21Guys, the truckers are starting to arrive.
18:24Here they come.
18:32Hey, how are you today?
18:34We're gonna get to a lovely burger.
18:36As the first truckers roll in, the blue team is prepped and ready to go, serving up their all-beef
18:42patty topped with raw onion, lettuce, tomatoes, Swiss cheese, and an old-fashioned coleslaw.
18:48There you go.
18:49You enjoy that, okay?
18:50I would say this is the best burger I've had in years.
18:54Let's go, blue!
18:55Our burgers are firing.
18:56Truckers are coming through.
18:57We're feeding them.
18:58I look over at the red team and it's utter chaos.
19:01What's going on?
19:01Shito, grab this.
19:02Patties, over here!
19:04No, let her do it, brother.
19:05Come on.
19:05What about the burgers?
19:06Dude, you're doing the burgers, right?
19:07No, you are.
19:09Scrapping the blue cheese from their patty mix has put the red team way behind schedule.
19:14Butter, lettuce!
19:14Butter, lettuce!
19:16Butter?
19:17What the hell are you asking for?
19:19You're gonna put the burgers on?
19:20You're gonna put the bacon on?
19:21Me?
19:22No, no.
19:22Oh, he's not ready, dude.
19:24Buns are burning.
19:25Bacon's not cooked.
19:26It's not cooking evenly.
19:27It's crowded in the pan, man.
19:28Open these up.
19:29Okay, we got it.
19:30The ear's open.
19:30These are open.
19:31Red team, seriously, get a bit of teamwork going on.
19:34Right now, it's looking a little bit embarrassing.
19:36Yes, Chef.
19:37Chetel, they can't vote for the red team unless they taste the red team's burger.
19:41I realize that.
19:42Help Dave make those patties right now, please.
19:44Red team, any burgers ready, please.
19:47Yeah, can we serve?
19:48Come on, guys.
19:49In all honesty, on a normal day, would you really wait for a burger when you've been driving
19:52for six hours?
19:54No.
19:54No chance.
19:55One done piece, Mike.
19:58Finally, the red team is serving their gourmet all-beef burger, topped with sauteed onion,
20:03bacon, Swiss cheese, and their secret weapon, Sharon's Chipotle barbecue sauce.
20:09There we go, man.
20:10Enjoy.
20:10Good app茅tit.
20:11That's the first burger out, guys, yeah?
20:13Congratulations.
20:22With 100 hungry truckers to be served, the race is on.
20:26The first team to 51 votes wins, while the losing team faces the dreaded pressure test,
20:32where one person will be eliminated.
20:35Okay, red team, blue team, listen to me.
20:38Chris has had a burger from each team.
20:41He's now going to cast the first vote on which one he prefers.
20:43So, two different burgers, one from the blue team and one from the red team.
20:46Come on, baby blue.
20:47I am not feeling confident at all with our first trucker.
20:51But what I did know is that we were making a kick-ass burger, and that burger was going
20:55to be the best burger out there.
20:58Interesting combinations.
20:59Which one did you prefer?
21:01Was it from the blue team or the red team?
21:03It's gotta be blue.
21:04It's gotta be blue.
21:05It's gotta be blue!
21:06We might be disorganized when we make a hell of a burger.
21:08Come on!
21:13Pull it.
21:15The red team.
21:16No!
21:17Hallelujah!
21:18Why did you prefer the red team over the blue team?
21:20The sauce was good.
21:22Right.
21:22And the hamburger was good.
21:23It was done just right.
21:25That don't mean nothing.
21:26That's one burger.
21:27Red team or blue team?
21:29Red team.
21:30Red team, wow.
21:31Off we go.
21:31Yeah!
21:33Yeah!
21:33I had just told my blue team, whatever is happening with the scoreboard, it doesn't
21:37matter.
21:38Just stay focused on the job at hand, and the best burger will win.
21:42Yay!
21:43Yay!
21:44What up?
21:46There you go.
21:47You enjoy that, okay?
21:49It's great.
21:50Close off.
21:51Good.
21:51It's like homemade, like your mom would make, you know?
21:54Make sure you vote for the blue team.
21:56Five-three.
21:57Five-three.
21:57The red team burger is electric chair food.
22:00Do you understand that?
22:01If I'm going in the chair, I want a red team burger.
22:04Okay, red team, it's five-five.
22:06Keep it going, guys.
22:06Come on.
22:08Yeah!
22:09That's what I'm talking about.
22:10Let's go blue!
22:11Go competition.
22:12Red team.
22:13Yeah, baby!
22:14Woo!
22:15We're feeling better.
22:16You know, we got a rhythm going.
22:17Yeah.
22:17And, uh, I think that was our problem at the start.
22:20Yeah.
22:20We were all over the place.
22:21Now it's our turn.
22:23We're just like, like a perfectly oiled issue.
22:25And then I look over to the score, and we're tied.
22:31It's game time.
22:33Get them in the fat, and then just give them a quick sear, and put them on here.
22:36I got you.
22:36And put my buns there, and then you're gonna toast them right up there.
22:39In a bold move to break the tie, Sharon comes up with a clever idea.
22:43Yeah.
22:44Toasted buns.
22:45Oh, in the bacon juice.
22:46All right.
22:47That's working, man.
22:47Yay!
22:48Yeah, get that bacon in there.
22:49Yeah, hell yeah.
22:49Beautiful.
22:50I took the bun, put it in that bacon grease, let it sit in it for a couple minutes, and
22:54marinate,
22:55and do what it wanted to do.
22:56Then I put it back on the grill, and I got really the most beautiful toasted bun you've
23:01ever seen in your life.
23:02I like that touch, the little bacon grease there on it.
23:05Yeah!
23:06Wow, that is a showstopper right there.
23:09Look at that.
23:09We're making bacon buns!
23:11Oh, yeah.
23:12Bacon buns?
23:13Bacon buns?
23:14That's what he ever had, you guys!
23:17Oh, yeah!
23:19Adaptability, baby.
23:20I'm not worried.
23:21There's a bunch of blue plates out there right now, and they're gonna end up walking
23:23up there, tugging on that blue handle.
23:25That's what I'm talking about.
23:27Red.
23:28Yeah!
23:30Someone put those burgers onto the grill.
23:33I love you!
23:34Oh, yeah!
23:35They've just hit 30.
23:36Red team, well done.
23:37All of a sudden, the red scoreboard starts lighting up like crazy, you know?
23:41It's just like, how is this possibly happening?
23:44This is the burger that's beating your ass at the moment.
23:47Have a taste, guys, yeah?
23:48Yeah.
23:48It's not too late to adjust.
23:49First one to 51, yeah?
23:50With the red team surging ahead, Gordon offers the blue team a taste of the opposition's burger.
23:56Raw bacon right out of the gate.
23:57I'd serve no bacon before I'd serve raw bacon.
24:00A little dense.
24:01A little dense, I think.
24:02A lot dense.
24:04That burger I just tasted was gross.
24:06To me, it was gross.
24:07It was burger slaughtered in barbecue sauce and raw bacon.
24:09Sure.
24:10Okay.
24:10You're cooking for truckers.
24:11We do the best we can.
24:12Now it's gone a little bit too plain, and it's not too late to change.
24:14That's what I'm saying.
24:15Absolutely, yes, chef.
24:15Good.
24:16I've heard you.
24:17There you go.
24:17Absolutely.
24:18I heard what Gordon had said, but I'm not just gonna jump ship in the middle of my deal
24:23and take off in a different direction.
24:25You picked the teams, yeah?
24:26You chose the recipe.
24:27I'm proud of my team.
24:29I'm not asking you proud enough.
24:30We win together, we lose together.
24:31And don't sound like a loser.
24:32You wanna win this competition, right?
24:33Absolutely.
24:34We will win this competition.
24:34Good.
24:35Let me put it to you this way.
24:36There is no way that the red team had a better burger than the blue team.
24:42Yeah!
24:43Woo!
24:44You're seven away from winning, red team.
24:49Red team are now serving double burgers, yeah?
24:51You got a double well done, right?
24:52Double with cheese.
24:53Double with cheese.
24:54Double burger medium with cheese, crispy bacon.
24:57You are talking my language!
24:58We're kicking the blue team's butt here.
25:01Double patty, double cheese, double bacon, extra everything.
25:05We adjusted, we improvised, we were adaptable, and that was our end.
25:10Six burgers away from winning!
25:12Woo!
25:12Come on, come on!
25:13These people are saying it's the best burger they've had.
25:15They love the sauce.
25:16I think that this is where it's not only cooking.
25:18You gotta do some marketing.
25:19Yeah.
25:19You gotta think like a restaurant too.
25:20Look at this.
25:21Mike is out on the floor.
25:22Work the line.
25:23Table side, spooning out barbecue sauce.
25:25Here we go, here we go.
25:25Here we go, here we go.
25:26Red team.
25:27Red or blue, red?
25:28Yes!
25:29Come on, guys!
25:30We're trying, we're trying!
25:31Come on!
25:32Come on, man.
25:32We need to sell these burgers, baby.
25:34Look, don't worry about the temperature.
25:35Just serve them.
25:36Serve them.
25:36Come on, red team!
25:38We need a vote.
25:39We need a vote.
25:40Let's go blue!
25:41Let's go blue!
25:4347!
25:44Amazing!
25:4547, guys!
25:46Come on!
25:47Guys, remember the first one to 51 wins.
25:50Tracy, come on.
25:51We need all those burgers.
25:53All the burgers.
25:53Okay.
25:54Okay, no problem.
25:55Right now.
25:56Yes!
25:57Yo!
25:5949!
26:00Here we go.
26:00What?
26:02What?
26:02On that board is 51 more vote.
26:06Okay, red team, blue team.
26:08This next vote could win the competition for the red team.
26:13If this trucker pulls that cord.
26:16Sir, off you go.
26:19Woo!
26:31Walls!
26:35Oh.
26:37Yes!
26:40Yes!
26:41Yes!
26:43Yes!
26:43Yes!
26:44Yes!
26:46Yes!
26:48Yes!
26:48Yes!
26:49Go, go, go!
26:51Yes!
26:53Yes!
26:54Yes!
26:56Our burger was a better burger.
26:58The weaker burger won today.
27:00Not only did we win, we kicked the really cocky team's butt,
27:03who still, after we won, thought that they had a better burger.
27:07I let the truckers speak for themselves,
27:10and they spoke red team all the way.
27:29With the red team safe,
27:31the blue team is about to face the dreaded pressure test
27:35that will send one of them home.
27:40This is my first pressure test,
27:42so the only thing I know to expect is the absolute unexpected.
27:47This means business.
27:49You know, somebody's going to actually go home today.
27:51It's tense.
27:52I was legitimately scared.
27:58Under this black curtain in front of you
28:00are 25 ingredients.
28:03They feature things from all over the world.
28:06You have ingredients that you might be comfortable with.
28:08You might have things here that you've never seen before.
28:11Now, this is a unique pressure test.
28:15Identifying these ingredients with your eyes, yes?
28:17Today's pressure test,
28:18you'll guess as many ingredients as you can in a row.
28:21When you get an ingredient wrong,
28:24your time is done.
28:26The individual that guesses the fewest ingredients
28:29from this table
28:31is leaving MasterChef.
28:36Out of this whole team,
28:38I'm the only one who's actually faced the pressure test already.
28:41I'm kind of confident with knowing
28:43I'm the only one who's experienced this already.
28:45Jake, you're going first.
28:48Let's go.
28:49So I'm thinking, oh, wow.
28:51I'm going to walk in
28:52and the judges are going to say,
28:54OK, Tracy, you have to name 25
28:56or you're going home
28:56because Jake is going to get all 25.
29:02OK, Jake, be clever.
29:04Good luck.
29:08Joe, Graham.
29:16I'm looking at these 25 ingredients
29:18and I'm like, OK, boom, boom, boom.
29:20My eyes are darting around.
29:21I'm seeing a bunch of stuff that I get.
29:24I'm seeing a few things
29:26that I probably am pretty sure about.
29:28And then I'm seeing a handful of things
29:29that I'm kind of like,
29:30I don't really know what that is.
29:33I was shooting for 20.
29:35OK, Jake, take one ingredient onto the table
29:38and tell us exactly what it is.
29:48What are they?
29:50Those are golden raisins.
29:56Correct.
29:57One.
29:58Good job, Jake.
30:00I know exactly why it's called a pressure test
30:03because you are under
30:04a tremendous amount of pressure.
30:06It's one shot on each ingredient.
30:09And if you get it wrong, that's it.
30:11That's your number.
30:12So there's zero room for error.
30:14Jake, what is that?
30:18Tomatillo.
30:22Correct.
30:23Well done.
30:24Keep it going, buddy.
30:26Bye.
30:30I was just really trying to stick with what I knew
30:33and work my way through those ingredients.
30:40What is that?
30:41I've made a shoot from it many times.
30:44It's a butternut squash.
30:47Three.
30:48Well done.
30:49Yeah.
30:49That's great.
30:52And this is about touching.
30:54Absolutely.
30:55Texture.
30:56Identification with the eyes.
31:00Cooking with the eyes.
31:02OK.
31:05What are they?
31:08Macadamia nuts.
31:10Congratulations.
31:11Four.
31:12Yeah.
31:13Good job.
31:15Confidence starts.
31:16And not the easiest ingredients you've chosen.
31:19Love it.
31:22Oh, man.
31:23He's going to set the bar real high for the rest of them
31:25because he knows his ingredients really well.
31:28So whoever's going to come next is going to have it hard.
31:31What is that?
31:32That is definitely rosemary.
31:35Congratulations.
31:35Well done.
31:36Good job.
31:37My strategy was get as much as you know down
31:41and then go to the stuff that you, you know,
31:43are like 70% or 80% sure on.
31:47That's a plantain.
31:48Correct.
31:49Well done.
31:49All right.
31:50Yeah.
31:50Good job, Jake.
31:51That's lemongrass.
31:55It's filet.
31:59Wow.
31:59Smoked salmon.
32:01Congratulations.
32:02Well done.
32:03And if you get through that,
32:05eventually me personally was going to be faced with
32:07that I have never even seen before.
32:13Wow.
32:14Now, Jake, what is that?
32:20It's okra.
32:27Correct.
32:28Well done.
32:29Woo.
32:30Woo.
32:3010.
32:3315 left.
32:34Keep it going.
32:35Really good start.
32:36Jake, what is that?
32:39That's rhubarb.
32:40Rhubarb.
32:41Well done.
32:42Woo.
32:43Excellent.
32:4511 in a row.
32:47Correct.
32:51How many are you unsure about now?
32:53Oh, maybe half a dozen.
32:55It doesn't.
33:03OK.
33:06The 12th ingredient.
33:07Tough on this one.
33:08Yeah.
33:08The pressure's really on.
33:09OK.
33:10Have you ever cooked with that ingredient before?
33:13I really don't cook it.
33:15I just kind of used it in dishes,
33:17but not so much cooking it.
33:20It cooks brilliantly.
33:22It does.
33:22What is that?
33:24Uh, sorrel?
33:28Sorrel.
33:31Jake, that is vortecress.
33:38Ah.
33:39You were sorely mistaken.
33:41Jake, you've scored 11 out of 25.
33:47Sorrel.
33:48Jake!
33:5011 iridians?
33:51No way.
33:52I'm thinking to myself, dude, you blew it.
33:54You're done.
33:56Bye-bye.
34:05Jake, you've scored 11 out of 25.
34:08Right.
34:09Hopefully, that's enough.
34:10Yeah.
34:11I, at that moment, thought I had just handed this competition over.
34:15Next up is Tony.
34:16Let's go.
34:17OK, Tony, pressure test.
34:20The number to beat is 11 out of 25.
34:24I was like, Jake got 11?
34:26Man, I was pegging Jake to get, like, 22 or something like that.
34:30But I felt like, you know, I had a shot at, you know, at least getting a dozen of these
34:33things.
34:34Think wisely.
34:40Tony, what is that?
34:42That is rosemary.
34:44Congratulations.
34:45All right, Tony.
34:47Keep you going, bro.
34:48Good start.
34:52OK.
34:54Ingredient number two.
34:55What is that?
34:56I'm going to say it's nectarine.
34:58Congratulations.
34:59Well done.
35:00I'm just trying to, like, cycle through my brain, through the mental roll that actually are like...
35:05Tony, what is that?
35:06I believe it is a catfish.
35:09I'm going to say that's macadamia nut.
35:13Come on, man.
35:14I'm like, all right, you know, I know what that is.
35:15I know what that is.
35:15I know what that is.
35:16I know what that is.
35:17You know, I feel like, all right, you know, I think I can get to 11, at least tie Jake
35:21here.
35:22Uh, tomato.
35:24Well done.
35:25What is that?
35:26I'm going to say it's okra.
35:28I'm going to say it's blue cheese.
35:31You're over there and you're watching somebody that's got your fate in their hands.
35:35It's a super emotional train wreck, just waiting to happen.
35:38I'm going to say that's a filet mignon.
35:42I'm going to go with plantain.
35:44It's lucky number nine.
35:45Woo!
35:46Come on, Tony.
35:47Go Tony.
35:48A few more, buddy.
35:49Next ingredient.
35:51Is he going to send you the double figures?
35:53Think wisely.
35:56Ingredient number ten.
35:57What is that?
35:59I believe it's a passion fruit.
36:01That's just jumping out at me right now, just seeing the way it's laying down.
36:03So I'm going to go with the passion fruit.
36:05If you're right, you're one ingredient away from tying with Jake.
36:11That ingredient is a fruit.
36:20But not passion.
36:21It's a star fruit.
36:26Nine out of 25.
36:30Passion fruit.
36:31I don't know what I was thinking.
36:32I never would have thought twice about it.
36:34I would have said a star fruit.
36:35I've seen it in the market a thousand times.
36:36I'm an idiot.
36:40Jake.
36:41Yes, chef.
36:41Big deep breath.
36:43Climb the stairs.
36:44Yes, chef.
36:45Wow.
36:46Tony.
36:47I shot myself in the foot.
36:49I knew what so many other things were are on that thing.
36:56Lee.
36:56Let's go, Lee.
36:57Let's go.
36:58Yes, you are.
36:59OK.
37:01The numbers beat is nine.
37:04Nine.
37:05Nine.
37:05I am extremely happy.
37:07All I need to do is guess 10, and I know that I have this.
37:12These are things that I can name in my sleep.
37:14In my hand, I have a nectarine.
37:16This is a butternut squash.
37:18Right here, I have rosemary.
37:19This is a papaya.
37:21Here, I have macadamia nuts.
37:23This is okra.
37:24These are golden raisins.
37:26These are tomatillos.
37:27This is star fruits.
37:31You're tied with Tony.
37:33Well done.
37:33Nine in a row.
37:35Lee comes up, and he just starts firing things off.
37:38And I was like, I'm screwed.
37:40You know, bring in whoever's next.
37:41Bring in Whitney or Tracy.
37:42Lee, get this right.
37:44You're joining Jake.
37:47What's in your hand?
37:48In my hand, I have smoked salmon.
37:55Join Jake.
37:57Congratulations.
37:57Well done.
37:58Woo, Lee!
37:59Good job, Lee.
38:02Well done.
38:03He nailed it going upstairs, and then there were two.
38:07Right.
38:08Whitney.
38:09Tony got nine in a row correct.
38:13Good luck.
38:16She's 22.
38:17I'm like, maybe, you know, the pressure.
38:20That's quick.
38:22First ingredients.
38:23This is okra.
38:25Dear Lord, please.
38:26I'm like, you know, I need some company over here.
38:29Tomatillo.
38:29These are dried black eyed peas.
38:32I see a lot of some southern things going on.
38:34You know, she started rattling them off.
38:36These are golden raisins.
38:37This is a butternut squash.
38:39It's a nectarine.
38:40It's smoked salmon.
38:44It's rosemary.
38:45This is a papaya.
38:49She went for the plantains.
38:50I'm like, oh, Whitney, please say banana.
38:52Please say banana.
38:53Not an easy one.
38:54What's on that plate?
38:56This is a plantain.
38:58But no such luck.
38:59Well done.
39:00Ten in a row.
39:01Good job.
39:04Starting to get hot.
39:05Even, like, doing, like, signature dishes or cooking in that kitchen, I haven't sweat like
39:09I was sweating up there today.
39:10Last up, Tracy.
39:12All right, Tracy.
39:12All right, Tracy.
39:14Doctor's in the house.
39:15Woo, Tracy.
39:16You're the last up.
39:17The pressure is really on.
39:20Tony, how are you feeling?
39:21I feel like it's getting late early around here.
39:25Tracy.
39:25Yes.
39:26Tony got nine out of 25 correct.
39:29Really?
39:32Seriously?
39:34Nine?
39:36He only got nine?
39:38Ten.
39:39The pressure's off.
39:41Nine.
39:41You tie with Tony.
39:43Any less than nine, Tracy, you're leaving MasterChef.
39:46All right.
39:52Being a girl from Georgia, I'm going to go with these little babies right here first.
39:58And I'm thinking, oh, here's another Southern girl.
40:00It is a sign of good luck.
40:03And these are black-eyed peas.
40:05That brought you lots of luck.
40:07Well done.
40:07Good start.
40:09Here we go.
40:10Way to get it started, Tracy.
40:11There you go.
40:12This is okra.
40:16Plantain.
40:18Catfish.
40:19These are golden raisins.
40:23This is smoked salmon.
40:25That is rosemary.
40:28This is rhubarb.
40:31Well done.
40:32Woo!
40:33Don't let them get you, girl.
40:37Like, you know, bottom of the ninth, face a little loaded.
40:40I only got one real lead and there's nobody out.
40:42And it's not feeling good.
40:44You've got eight ingredients in a row correct.
40:47You need this one to tie with Tony.
40:50It is a nectarine.
40:53You sure it's not a Georgia?
40:56No.
40:57I'm a Georgia peach.
40:59That's not a Georgia peach.
41:04Congratulations, Tracy.
41:05You are now tied with nectarines.
41:08Well done.
41:08This next ingredient is either going to be my favorite ingredient
41:13or it's going to be the ingredient that will haunt me
41:17for the rest of my life other than a cupcake.
41:20Just want to be absolutely sure.
41:24You have to be 100% certain.
41:27Right.
41:28Um, okay.
41:30Let me look over these ingredients again.
41:39I kind of zone in on, you know, this red meat.
41:42It seems pretty straightforward,
41:46but they have got to put a ringer on here.
41:49They have got to put something on this table
41:52that is going to trip up all of these smart contestants.
41:57All right.
41:58Let's do this.
42:05You guys wouldn't trick me, right?
42:07If you get this ingredient right,
42:09Tony is eliminated from MasterChef.
42:11I just hope I have what it takes
42:12just to make it back into the safe haven
42:14and keep my apron and keep on fighting here.
42:17Name that ingredient, please.
42:20This is...
42:32If you get this ingredient right,
42:34Tony is eliminated from MasterChef.
42:36Name that ingredient, please.
42:38This is...
42:43Filet Mignon.
42:44Tracy.
42:49Just say it.
42:52It's Filet Mignon.
42:53Well done.
42:54Woo!
42:56Woo!
43:00Congratulations.
43:01Join the rest of them.
43:04Tony, please come over.
43:10Your journey's been amazing.
43:11And you took us all by surprise.
43:14Trust me.
43:15Deep down inside,
43:17there's an amazing,
43:18passionate,
43:19burning
43:20chef at heart there.
43:22Continue following that dream.
43:23And if you don't find that dream,
43:25then give me a call.
43:26Thank you, chef.
43:28Right on, Tony.
43:29Yay.
43:32See you at home, kid.
43:35It just bums me out.
43:37That's not how I wanted to leave.
43:38I beat myself today.
43:40And, uh,
43:41that's the worst part about it.
43:43I really wanted to shine.
43:44Like, I wanted that day
43:45where I had the best dish
43:46and I didn't get that chance.
43:47And, you know,
43:48I got to learn new things
43:50in this competition.
43:51I got to learn
43:52that I can go outside
43:53my comfort zone
43:54and I can cook
43:54with things I'm not familiar with.
43:56And I pulled it off.
43:57And, I mean,
43:58if I could do that,
43:58it made me feel like
43:59I could do anything.
44:00You know,
44:00you only get one shot
44:01at this life.
44:02And go out there,
44:03just keep smiling,
44:04living and breathing,
44:05and having a good time.
44:11Next time on MasterChef,
44:14the theme of the invention test
44:16is romance.
44:18But some will leave
44:19with a broken heart.
44:21Go back to your station.
44:22I'm at the station.
44:23It's crap.
44:26When the amateur cooks
44:28must deliver on one
44:29of the most romantic days
44:30of all.
44:31All of you
44:31are going to be cooking
44:33for a wedding.
44:35Some of them
44:35fall short of the occasion.
44:37David,
44:38if you don't know
44:38where the salmon is,
44:39you've got to find out
44:40where it is.
44:40Come on.
44:40Look at me.
44:41We're not done yet.
44:42Look at me.
44:43That is .
44:45And must face
44:46the most intimidating
44:47pressure test to date.
44:49Two of you
44:49will be leaving MasterChef.
