Defence minister Luke Pollard says that RAF 'wildcat' helicopters capable of taking out Iranian drones will be sent with HMS Dragon to Cyprus, to bolster the defence of RAF Akrotiri and other British bases in the region. 00:00Well, we're reinforcing our Typhoons, our F-35s and our counter-drone forces we already have
00:05in the Mediterranean and in the Gulf with additional capabilities.
00:09These Wildcat helicopters and their drone-busting martlet missiles
00:13will be designed to take out Iranian Shahids that are coming at UK bases
00:18and also threatening our allies in the region.
00:21That will be reinforced with HMS Dragon, our Type 45 air defence destroyer as well,
00:26creating a full package of support for the UK to defeat any Iranian drones or air threats facing our bases.
00:35And is this due to be used around Cyprus, around Akrotiri? What's the plan?
00:40So these Wildcat helicopters will be based out of Cyprus and will be deployed to take out Iranian drones
00:47that are threatening not only those UK bases but also our allies in the region as well.
