01:11Today's weather forecast calls for...
01:14Leaves!
01:16Woo-hoo!
01:17Hey guys, check this out!
01:19Now you see me!
01:20Now you don't!
01:21Oh, oh, I wanna try, baby!
01:24Now you see me!
01:27Now you don't!
01:28Uh, Hal!
01:30I'm afraid we still see you!
01:33I'll get some more leaves to cover you, big dog!
01:43What in the woods?
01:45Hey, Gus!
01:46Hey, you gotta see this!
01:47Whoa!
01:48What are those things?
01:50Tiny umbrellas for gophers?
01:52Patio furniture for the stylish toad?
01:54I'm pretty sure these are mushrooms!
01:56But I've never seen mushrooms like these before!
01:59They're like something out of a fairytale book about gnomes!
02:02I'm obsessed!
02:03Is a mushroom a plant?
02:05I don't see any leaves!
02:06Yeah, and they aren't green like most plants we see!
02:09Careful, Squeaks!
02:11We don't know if these are safe to touch!
02:13Weird!
02:14There are all these little ridges on the underside!
02:17They almost look like pages in a book!
02:19I think those are called gills!
02:21Oh, hey!
02:22Mushrooms are neither plant or animal!
02:24They're a type of fungus!
02:26And what, pray tell, is fungus?
02:29Oh!
02:30Well, it says here,
02:31some kinds of fungus, such as mushrooms,
02:33help to break down dead plants!
02:35We have got to get some photos of these strange mushrooms!
02:38Say cheese!
02:40Alright, now let's do a silly one!
02:42Ooh, nice!
02:43Alright, now just go back to business!
02:45Pretend the camera's not even here!
02:46Ahem!
02:47Nature Cat!
02:49Ronald!
02:50Have you all never heard of peace and quiet?
02:52All this racket just woke me up from my catnap!
02:55We're sorry, Ronald.
02:56We were just so excited about these fairytale mushrooms we found!
03:00I see!
03:01Well, show's over!
03:02I don't care where you go,
03:04but you can't stay here!
03:05Can't we look at them a little longer?
03:07Ronnie!
03:08Baby!
03:08Come on!
03:09How often do you stumble on mushrooms like these?
03:12Sorry, but I'm not budging!
03:14No matter what you say!
03:15Bye!
03:17I would have given up a whole ball of yarn to see those mushrooms some more!
03:20They were so cool!
03:22Mm-hmm!
03:28Ronald's Mushroom Museum?
03:31Seriously?
03:32Ronald!
03:34Are you all enjoying my mushroom museum?
03:37Technically, it's just a soft open.
03:39Those mushrooms should be for everyone to enjoy!
03:42They are!
03:43For reasonable fee!
03:45Ronald, do you even know what a mushroom is?
03:47Do I know what a mushroom is?
03:50Ha-ha-ha!
03:51Of course I do!
03:53A mushroom is a, uh, type of plant!
03:56No.
03:57Rock?
03:58It's a fungus.
03:59That's a fun word.
04:00Fungus.
04:01Fungi-fungi-fungus.
04:02I don't need to explain myself!
04:05Man, what a letdown!
04:07I have some photos of the mushrooms if you want to see those!
04:10Yeah, it's just not the same as seeing them up close and personal, you know?
04:14I know.
04:15Seeing them in nature was just so magical.
04:18It really was.
04:19Ooh!
04:20Wait a sec!
04:21What if we found our own mushrooms around the forest?
04:23Ooh!
04:24I like that idea!
04:26We could even create a mushroom walking tour!
04:29Where animals could see different types of mushrooms and learn what they're about!
04:32And it'll be free!
04:33And it'll be huge!
04:35And it'll be...
04:36Mushroomy!
04:37Now we're talking!
04:39The hairs on the back of my neck are totally standing up right now!
04:42Come on, fellow mushroom mates!
04:44Let's get started on...
04:46Squeaks' Magical Mushroom Mystery Tour!
04:50All right!
04:52So if mushrooms help decompose dead plants, maybe that's how they get their food!
04:57Wait, but if mushrooms need food, where are their mouths?
05:00Do they have hidden little mouths?
05:02Giant scary teeth?
05:04Ew!
05:05Haha!
05:05No hidden mouths with giant scary teeth, Hal!
05:08It says here that mushrooms grow where their food is, like a fallen log!
05:13And that they have a special process that helps them break down their food!
05:16So cool!
05:18Cool, but not head and mouth with giant scary teeth, cool!
05:21That's so going on the walking tour!
05:24Oh!
05:24Mushrooms!
05:26Sweet!
05:27Wow!
05:28Pretty!
05:28These definitely look like mushrooms, but they're different than what we saw before!
05:33Yeah, these are smaller and they're clumped closer together!
05:36Oh!
05:36Oh!
05:36Everyone on the mushroom tour is going to be obsessed with these!
05:39Do I detect a fungus among us?
05:42Who are you?
05:43My name's Chandler, but most folks call me...
05:45Well, Chandler.
05:46Hi Chandler!
05:47I'm Hal!
05:48And most folks call me Halvin or Halward, and I don't answer!
05:52Because my name's Hal and sometimes I forget!
05:54I couldn't help but notice your interest in mushrooms.
05:57I myself am a bit of an expert on mushrooms, which are sometimes called toadstools, even
06:03though we toads never really use them as stools.
06:06Hey, what are you going to do?
06:08Oh, this is perfect!
06:09We're in the middle of creating a mushroom walking tour around the forest!
06:13Not just any mushroom tour, the best one ever!
06:16Animals will line up to take my tour for months!
06:19You might have to make that weeks, maybe even days.
06:22What?
06:23Mushrooms don't last for very long.
06:25Kind of like how a blooming flower eventually withers away.
06:30Wow, Chandler!
06:31You are an expert!
06:32Tell us more, please.
06:34Tell us everything you know.
06:36You can touch these mushrooms.
06:38You'll feel how they're different from plants.
06:41But don't ever touch a mushroom unless a pro like me says it's okay.
06:46Some mushrooms can make you sick.
06:48Whoa!
06:48They're soft and spongy but also firm at the same time.
06:53Amazing!
06:54What's going on with these gills, Chandler?
06:56The gills on this mushroom are where it keeps its spores.
07:00Spores!
07:01Of course!
07:03Spores!
07:04I thought it was where the spores were kept.
07:07But I just have one tiny little question about these spores.
07:10Okay, what are spores?
07:12Am I even saying it correctly?
07:13A spore has everything a mushroom needs to grow a new mushroom.
07:18It's like a seed.
07:19It looks like we have our first mushroom on the tour!
07:22Can you help us find some more?
07:23It'd be my pleasure!
07:25There are actually some lion's mane mushrooms growing out of a tree hole nearby.
07:30Lead the way, Chandler!
07:31Onward and mushroom-ward!
07:34Hey guys, I just want to make sure there are no lions involved in the lion's mane.
07:41You know, it's just a nickname, right guys?
07:43No real lions.
07:45Guys?
07:47I give you lion's mane.
07:50Whoa!
07:51This mushroom is sweet!
07:53Phew!
07:54Okay, no lions.
07:55Are you sure this is even a mushroom?
07:57That doesn't look like the other ones we've seen.
08:00Not every mushroom has a stalk and a cap.
08:02I knew mushrooms were cool, but I didn't realize they were this cool.
08:06And we've only just scratched the surface.
08:10Wait until I tell you guys about the rest of the mushroom.
08:13Rest of the mushroom?
08:14I feel like I'm looking at a complete mushroom right here.
08:17Not exactly.
08:18This mushroom here is just the visible part of the fungus.
08:22The real show is underneath.
08:25You see, underneath the bark are lots of tiny white thread-like strands.
08:29That's called mycelium.
08:30And it's the main part of the mushroom.
08:32It can spread out pretty far, like roots.
08:35What you see here is like a plant's fruit or flower.
08:39Okay, this just got interesting.
08:41I want to hear more about this mycelium stuff!
08:45What?
08:48The mycelium of some kinds of mushrooms grow outwards in all directions from the spore,
08:54like the spokes of a wheel.
08:56Then, when it's time to reproduce, mushrooms will sprout above ground in a ring.
09:01Some call it a fairy ring because they believed fairies would dance inside the circle.
09:06People in France used to think these mysterious mushroom rings were guarded by giant toads who would curse anyone who
09:13stepped inside them.
09:24It's fascinating how so much of the way the world works happens out of sight, right under our noses.
09:30That was deep.
09:31I dig it.
09:32Why, thank you.
09:33Okay, I need to have a fairy ring on my mushroom tour.
09:37That would really blow Ronald's museum out of the water.
09:40Chandler, take me to your nearest fairy ring!
09:43I'd love to, but there's one problem.
09:45I haven't seen one in ages.
09:47They're pretty rare.
09:49But I could show you a bunch of other types of mushrooms, of all colors and shapes and sizes.
09:54How's that sound?
09:55It sounds incredible!
09:56Let's go!
09:58Sorry.
09:59Got too excited.
09:59Realized I had no idea where I was going.
10:01Chandler, lead the way!
10:03Don't sweat it!
10:04Come on, this way!
10:09Aha!
10:10Found one!
10:12Mushroom!
10:12Whoa!
10:14This mushroom is enormous!
10:17I don't even know if I can fit it all in one pick!
10:20Weird.
10:21It has a bunch of tiny holes under its cup, like a kitchen sponge.
10:25Mushroom number three on Squeaks' magical mushroom mystery tour!
10:29What else you got?
10:31Whee!
10:32These look like ceramic bowls, mushroom number four.
10:38Mushroom number seven!
10:40They look like jazz trumpets!
10:42Uh, Squeaks, you think maybe we could take a break?
10:46Whoa-ho, yeah!
10:47This mushroom tour has a lot of mushrooms!
10:50Whoa, Bessie!
10:51Oh, I'm sorry guys, it's just...
10:53Oh, gosh, I really wanted to find a fairy ring, you know?
10:56It'd be the tour highlight.
10:58Oh, too bad you couldn't use the fairy ring in that clearing over there.
11:01Now that would've been a good one!
11:03Oh, well, moving on!
11:05F-f-f-f-fairy baby!
11:08Woo-hoo!
11:10Woo-hoo!
11:13And beneath your feet is the main part of the mushroom, that's called mycelium.
11:18And what you see here above ground is like the fruit of the fungus, and it holds many teeny tiny
11:23spores, and those are like seeds.
11:26So when it releases the spores, they float away to start a new fungi.
11:30Woo-hoo!
11:32I'm so glad we did this, Stan.
11:34We don't leave the burrow enough, you know.
11:36Squeaks!
11:36That was wonderful!
11:38So, so, so good!
11:40Oh, thanks everyone, but I really have to give all the credit to Chandler.
11:43Oh, stop it.
11:45You're gonna make me blush.
11:46Um, excuse me, I was wondering if I could take the next magical mushroom mystery tour?
11:53Hmm?
11:53Of course you can, Ronald!
11:55Ronald?
11:56Yeah, I don't know of any Ronald.
11:58My name is, uh, Cloud.
12:01No, Claude!
12:02Claude!
12:02Uh, Tremant!
12:04Claude Tremant!
12:06Oh, boy.
12:07Okay, Claude, follow me.
12:12A Midsummer's Daydream!
12:19Oh, the meadow looks so beautiful and so colorful and all at the same time, baby!
12:24You got that right, Hal.
12:26So many plants and flowers.
12:27That's because it's the time when everything's growing.
12:30They used to call this time of year Midsummer.
12:33So, Happy Midsummer!
12:36Happy Midsummer!
12:38Let's keep on celebrating, gang.
12:40Time to assemble our Midsummer Floral Fedoras.
12:44Flowers, Ho!
12:47Oh!
12:47Behold!
12:48The hat of all flower hats!
12:51Hatsila!
12:52Whoa!
12:55Whoa!
13:00Oh, hello, Ronald.
13:03Hello, Nature Cat.
13:04Why are you all wearing flowers?
13:06To celebrate Midsummer!
13:07Midsummer?
13:08But it's only June.
13:10Summer just started.
13:11It's a celebration that things are growing again.
13:14It's called Midsummer because it comes from a time when the calendar wasn't like our calendar today.
13:19Right!
13:19It's the most magical time when nature is feeling strong.
13:23So, big deal.
13:24It is a big deal.
13:27Hundreds of years ago, in the time of Shakespeare, Midsummer was an important celebration.
13:33Everything was growing again, and it was a time to hope for a good fall harvest that would last through
13:38the long winter.
13:41Happy Midsummer!
13:42Happy Midsummer!
13:43Happy Midsummer!
13:44Well, I think this Midsummer stuff seems boring.
13:47Oh, Ronald.
13:48I think you'll change your mind when we do our traditional Midsummer dance.
13:53Come on, Ronald!
13:55You're gonna love it!
13:56Whoa!
13:57Uh, what is this thing?
13:58If you were a Midsummer lover like me, you'd know that this is called a maypole.
14:03Grab a ribbon and let's buggy, baby!
14:06Thanks, but I think I'll sit this one out.
14:11So, you just go around and around the pole?
14:15Boring!
14:16That's the very least of it, Ronald.
14:18Now, here's where it gets complicated.
14:22Look out!
14:23Watch it now!
14:23Hey!
14:24Hold on now!
14:25I'm stuck!
14:26I'm stuck!
14:26Get this Midsummer stuff off of me!
14:32This is a Midsummer mess!
14:34Someone get me down!
14:43Alright, all.
14:44Get ready for my favorite Midsummer game of all!
14:47The Midsummer Fairy Search!
14:50Uh, Fairy Search?
14:52In olden days, people believed that Midsummer was the day when the magical
14:56world would meet the natural world!
14:59That makes it the perfect day to look for fairies!
15:01Fairies!
15:03This is ridiculous!
15:05Let the Midsummer Fairy Search begin!
15:08What a waste of time!
15:10Everyone knows there's no such things as fairies!
15:13Fairies!
15:13I found a fairy!
15:14Wow!
15:16It's beautiful!
15:18Oh!
15:18Oh!
15:18Oh!
15:18Let me see!
15:19Ronald wants to see the fairy!
15:20Oh, come on!
15:22You got me all excited!
15:23But that's just a hummingbird!
15:26Well, of course, Ronald!
15:28Fairies aren't real!
15:29So we look for hummingbirds and pretend they're fairies!
15:32Come on!
15:32Let's look for more fairies!
15:34Forget this whole Midsummer malarkey!
15:37I'm gonna go take a Midsummer nap instead!
15:40Toodles to the oo!
15:42I don't care anything about this Midsummer madness!
15:46Hmm!
15:46Maypoles!
15:47Hmm!
15:48Flowers!
15:49Hmm!
15:50Fairies!
15:51Hmm!
15:58Huh?
15:59Whoa!
16:00What is making that terrible noise?
16:03And interrupting our Midsummer fairy fun?
16:07Oh!
16:07It sounds like the beast of the forest!
16:10Hmm!
16:10Yes!
16:11Perhaps an ogre!
16:12Or a dragon!
16:13It's worse than that!
16:15It's Ronald!
16:20His snores are disturbing the whole forest!
16:24We'd better wake him up!
16:25Time to wake up!
16:29Whoa!
16:33Excuse us, but we really have a problem here!
16:36Your snoring is very loud!
16:39Whoa!
16:40Whoa!
16:41I'll take care of this!
16:42Wake up, Ronald!
16:45Whoa!
16:46Ah!
16:46Let me out of here!
16:49Ooh!
16:50Ooh!
16:51Ooh!
16:51Ooh!
16:52Snoring's waking up!
16:53Whoa!
16:54Huh?
16:54What was that?
16:59Happy Midsummer!
17:01Ah!
17:03Oh!
17:04Can't catch us!
17:05No way!
17:06Try to catch us, Ronald!
17:08Hey!
17:09Come back here!
17:12Come back here!
17:20Ooh!
17:21Ooh!
17:23Ooh!
17:25Ooh!
17:25Ooh!
17:25Ooh!
17:25Ooh!
17:26Ooh!
17:26Come on, fairies!
17:27Let's fly!
17:29Oh!
17:30Forget it!
17:30It's just a bunch of hummingbirds anyway!
17:33Did he say hummingbirds?
17:36Oh!
17:36I believe he did!
17:38Who are you calling hummingbirds?
17:41I'm calling you hummingbird!
17:43Hummingbird!
17:44Well, I'll have you know that we're not hummingbirds!
17:47We're fairies!
17:48That's ridiculous!
17:50Well, normally you can't see us, so it'd be nice.
17:53The only day you can see us is a day that brings love!
17:56A day you hope for a great big fall harvest!
17:59A day you wish for good fortune!
18:02Midsummer day!
18:03Happy Midsummer!
18:05Happy Midsummer!
18:06Sorry!
18:06You must be hummingbirds, because there are no such things as fairies!
18:10It's true!
18:11We really are fairies!
18:13Oh yeah?
18:14Then prove it!
18:15P-p-prove it how?
18:16Well, fairies are supposed to be magical, so if you're fairies, do something magical!
18:22Hmm!
18:22Fairy huddle!
18:26All right!
18:28It's decided!
18:29Get ready for some very magic!
18:31Magic flowers, do magic bees!
18:33Cause this guy is the bitchies!
18:37So, uh, where's the magic?
18:39Oh!
18:40It already happened!
18:41Well, what was it?
18:42A love spell!
18:44A love spell?
18:45Yes!
18:46The next person that sees you will fall madly in love with you!
18:50Don't you just love love?
18:52I mean, she's so lovable!
18:53Good luck!
18:55This is silly!
18:56They weren't magical at all!
18:58But I do feel a little different!
19:00Kinda airy!
19:01Hmm!
19:04Make way for the queen!
19:06Over hill, over dale!
19:08Over park, over pale!
19:11Over things that's growing green!
19:13I mean, I am Squeaksalia!
19:15Mousy queen!
19:17Mousy queen!
19:19You!
19:20Me?
19:21You!
19:22You!
19:23You!
19:23You!
19:23You!
19:24You are the one I have searched for my whole life through!
19:27Really?
19:28I am honest and for true, I think I may love you!
19:34Wow!
19:35She's in love with me!
19:36The magic worked!
19:38Those must have been real fairies after all!
