The GBAG Nation discussed the backlash surrounding Dak Prescott after his comments offering advice to George Pickens about playing on the franchise tag. They debated whether Dak crossed a line speaking on a teammate’s contract situation. They also looked at potential edge rusher options since the latest buzz suggests Dallas could be out of the Maxx Crosby sweepstakes, and more.

00:00And yes, I did watch the Aggies guard last night.
00:03I'm looking forward to getting Wolchuk and Broaddus' thoughts on that
00:06to see if I can verify and validate my work.
00:11Every time I turn around, they're telling me I'm wrong about a player.
00:13So we'll see if I'm wrong again or if this particular Aggie I got dialed in on.
00:18Okay, segments brought to you by the Frankels.
00:20If you've been injured in a car or truck wreck, call the Frankels first, 214 or 817-333-3333.
00:26With Franklin Frankel, there's never an out-of-pocket cost.
00:28They only get paid when you win.
00:29And the Frankels are the go-to car and truck wreck attorneys in Dallas.
00:33We're getting set here at Surprise for Rangers baseball tonight.
00:36They're going to take on the Royals, and Eric and Matt are in town, and Sandler is here.
00:40And the guys are going to be on the audio broadcast of it.
00:43Looking forward to that tonight because we get to watch the game right as we get off air.
00:48Our spring training coverage is brought to you by ASCO Equipment.
00:51Still hoping to watch McKenzie Gore.
00:53Do we have an update on that?
00:54When are we going to see McKenzie Gore?
00:56That will be tonight.
00:57I got a peek.
00:58Now, they've got two different games going.
01:01They've got a backfield game.
01:02One of them, you do have McKenzie Gore pitching.
01:05Okay.
01:07Very much looking forward to that.
01:09Trey Wingo, just to reset you on the Max Crosby update that happened just moments before we took the air
01:15this afternoon.
01:16Things are moving fast regarding Crosby.
01:19Last night, Dallas thought they were going to close the deal, but since then, other teams have raised the ante
01:25and potentially are offering the Raiders two first-round picks.
01:28Expected Dallas to now shift their focus to Trey Hendrickson.
01:32Jane Slater has an update on that as well with the Cowboys source saying, we were not willing to go
01:37to two seconds.
01:39In the last segment, you heard Wolchuk and Broaddus sharing what their sources are telling them, that you have a
01:46couple of teams, the Cowboys and the Eagles.
01:49The bird turds might swoop in here and get Max Crosby and go on another Super Bowl run.
01:55I mean, they really have not been able to replace their edge redgers to the extent that they were so
02:00effective in 2024, and if the Eagles do that, maybe they take control of this division.
02:05You know, right now, I'm thinking Cowboys will probably win this division in 2025.
02:09I think the Eagles' era is pointing sternly down, but, dude, if they get Max Crosby, then maybe you've got
02:15to rethink what you thought you were seeing last year with the Eagles' momentum in the wrong direction.
02:23All right, so that's where we are right now with Max Crosby.
02:26The division rival Eagles might be coming in.
02:29Swoop them.
02:30Okay, the world is going after Dak Prescott.
02:32Pretty good for his answer to what advice can you give to George Pickens considering you were a franchise tag
02:38guy.
02:38Here's how Dak answered it yesterday.
02:40Yeah, George loves football.
02:42That's the one thing about it.
02:44I just want him to know don't change your love for football.
02:47Don't get in the business mind of this.
02:49You played last year on a one-year for not even that much, right?
02:53So if you can go 30, whatever it is now, I think it's the same thing I got.
02:57So, you know, when I'm franchise.
02:58So, hey, go do it.
03:00At the end of the day, bet on yourself.
03:02He's a hell of a player.
03:03Hopefully we can get him long-term and sign that.
03:05But if not, I think the way that he plays the game and the person that he is, it'll be
03:10just fun.
03:11You know, I don't know if the front end and the back end, like the love that Dak gave GP
03:17was reflected in the reactions.
03:19But TJ Huchmanzada was going after him today, you know, basically saying you're kind of speaking out of turn.
03:24There is a code, you know.
03:27I think it's different for me and Dak because he is a team leader.
03:31You know he's got the guys' backs.
03:32He has an incredible relationship.
03:34Like this is just a random guy talking about another random guy's, you know, contract situation in the clubhouse.
03:40This is Dak, and he's been through the tag situation.
03:43So it's kind of like he's being asked, from your experience, what advice would you give?
03:48Like how did it go so smoothly for you?
03:50And I just think Dak's being honest and ultimately giving good advice.
03:55What do you think?
03:56Was he at a turn here?
03:58I mean, we read the quote yesterday, and it didn't strike me as, ooh, he crossed the line.
04:05Yeah.
04:05And I still don't feel that way.
04:07Now, I get like players' perspectives are clearly different.
04:10So if the entire locker room is in disagreement, then I can't really push back on that.
04:15But when it landed on my ears yesterday and even hearing him say that right there,
04:19it doesn't strike me as something that would rub me wrong if I was George or any other player in
04:25that locker room.
04:26Yeah.
04:28I had the same thought, like on first pass, and then I get home last night.
04:32I'm looking through social media.
04:33I'm seeing it again this morning.
04:34I'm like, man, they're really coming after our guy Dak.
04:36And I was like, maybe I just have a pro-Dak bias that I filter all content through.
04:41And I know Dak's not going to say anything disrespectful.
04:45You know, but at the same time, he doesn't have a 100% perfect record.
04:49Nobody does.
04:50There's been at least one or two moments where you're like, maybe Dak would have taken that one back if
04:54he wants it back.
04:55Yeah, I mean, I guess the player's perspective is basically like they don't want you to say anything other than,
05:01no, we need to get this dude signed long-term, and I want him to make all the money he
05:04can,
05:04and I respect any decision he makes until he gets that money.
05:07Would it call him pocket-watching?
05:08Is that what they're saying?
05:08Basically.
05:10You know?
05:11I mean, so, I don't know.
05:12I didn't really get that from him there.
05:15I think that's ridiculous.
05:16Because he even says in it, like, hopefully we can get him to a long-term deal.
05:20But as somebody who's been tagged before and played on the tag before, you know, it's still something that you
05:28can take advantage of.
05:29Yeah, I think there's nothing wrong with what Dak said at all.
05:32Yeah, I think maybe some people are interpreting it as you're selfish.
05:36You just want the player.
05:37You're not looking out for his best interest.
05:39But I actually think Dak is looking out for his best interest.
05:42Like, if you're betting on yourself, you're going to get paid.
05:44The franchise tag is a ton of money.
05:46And you can only, like, Lou Holtz had this great quote.
05:50You know, he passed away yesterday, RIP and everything, to the great Lou Holtz.
05:52But one of the pieces of audio going around in the quotes from him was this interview that he did
05:58where the reporter asked him,
06:00you know, why are you always in such a good mood?
06:02He said, well, I learned a long time ago there's things that can make you sad and there's things that
06:05can make you happy.
06:06I choose happy.
06:07You know, so I think Dak is reflecting that with his advice.
06:12If you choose to get entangled with day-to-day contract negotiations, don't be surprised if your experience is more
06:22stressed out.
06:23You know, money gets all of us.
06:25Money stresses the hell out of us.
06:26Yeah, it's like you can only control so much.
06:28And so you still need to be able to go out there and perform and not let this totally eat
06:34you up.
06:34Yeah.
06:35Because it can.
06:36If you're just thinking about it every single day, you will build animosity towards your team, your organization,
06:44the certain individuals that sort of have control over whether or not you're getting paid.
06:48Yeah.
06:48And it can definitely eat you up and piss you off.
06:52It's a lot of time.
06:53Yeah.
06:53Yeah.
06:54It's going to drag on for months.
06:55Right.
06:55Yeah.
06:56It's exhausting.
06:56Exactly.
06:57It's kind of like, hey, control what you can control, and you're still going to cash out big this year.
07:03Yeah.
07:03And if you don't get injured and you have anywhere close to the season you just had, you're going to
07:08look back and appreciate it.
07:10So, I don't know.
07:10It's tough.
07:11It's tough.
07:12But I think it's just the locker room and the clubhouse just want you to say, no, I want my
07:17guys to get paid.
07:18Hold out.
07:19Do whatever you have to do.
07:20Get all the money you can.
07:21That's the player perspective.
07:22So, I watched Chase Besantis last night, guys.
07:26Aggie's left guard.
07:27He was their right guard and right tackle as a freshman.
07:31He debuted.
07:32He was on the All-SEC freshman team.
07:34He was on the All-American freshman team as a right guard and right tackle.
07:38And, you know, I think, for me, I don't see a better left guard.
07:44I know all the talk has been about Awani.
07:46I know Oregon's Pregnone.
07:49Is that how I say it?
07:50Yeah, Emmanuel Pregnone.
07:52He's up there on a lot of people's boards as well.
07:55I don't know.
07:56I mean, obviously, it does not make sense for the Cowboys to be thinking about this.
07:59I was actually jumping into it because the Steelers lost their left guard, say Amalu, when I do a Steelers
08:03podcast with my buddy up there in Pittsburgh a couple times a week.
08:07So, I wanted to just get an understanding of it.
08:08But we're like two months into draft evals, and I hadn't looked at left guard because, obviously, the Cowboys have
08:13Tyler Smith.
08:13So, finally, I jump into it last night.
08:15I'm like, dude, this guy is a hooper.
08:17And if the Cowboys were like, we're wiped out, and here we are at pick 20, there's no good defensive
08:22players, we're going to take Besantis and put Tyler Smith at left tackle.
08:26It probably wouldn't be the best use of your resources, your draft resources, or Tyler Smith.
08:31But their offensive line will be really dang good next year on that side.
08:35Well, he's played all over the line.
08:36So, he started 12 games at right tackle.
08:39Bowl game, he had to play right guard.
08:41He started 10 games at left guard in 2024.
08:43Was the top recruit coming out of New Jersey.
08:46I think he's got a ton of versatility.
08:48I love him in pass protection.
08:50I think he does an excellent job of being able to counter, readjust, good footwork.
08:54I think he's a better pass protector than he is a run blocker, which kind of makes it surprising, because
08:59I think you like the guys that are going to kind of blow you off the football.
09:03And I don't know that he's that kind of guy.
09:06No, but he's going to beat you with speed, and then he's going to get to the second level.
09:09He's really good at his zone blocking scheme.
09:12He'd be phenomenal in his zone blocking scheme to me.
09:14So, I like the way that he does.
09:16He will give up leverage, but I think he does a good job using his hands and then being able
09:21to reset and turn defenders wide or inside based on what direction they want to try and run the football.
09:28But he's super athletic.
09:30I liked him a lot as well.
09:30I've got him in the second round right behind the top two other guards.
09:33He's the number three guard for me.
09:35Yeah, I saw this guy opposite as you guys.
09:37I really did.
09:38I think the longer he had the block, the more problems that he had.
09:42And, you know, you can see the push and stuff, the power as a run blocker, but the lateral movement,
09:48the tendency to reach for defenders instead of punching with his hands, quick movements were giving him some problems.
09:54I was watching the Texas and the Miami games.
09:57And, you know, Miami will give you some trouble with the way that they play their front.
10:00But I saw kind of a little bit of a top-heavy, off-balance guy when executing blocks.
10:05I got him in the third round myself.
10:07Right on.
10:08Well, I mean, that is encouraging because we've just got to get him down one more round to be available
10:12for the Cowboys.
10:13But I thought his athleticism showed up on tape a lot, and I think I watched a lot of Auburn,
10:19and maybe the matchup wasn't good.
10:21Maybe I need to go watch the Miami players.
10:22Oh, no, Auburn's got defensive linemen.
10:24I mean, Auburn's got two-edge rushers.
10:27So, you know, any SEC game you watch these guys play, they're going to have to deal with defensive tackles,
10:33edges, linebackers.
10:35So, yeah, I mean, I just saw them a little bit different than you guys.
10:39You know, you two seem to be more in lockstep.
10:41Well, I mean, look, if you watch Cassius Howell play in the two games that you're naming, you're not saying
10:45Cassius Howell's a first-rounder.
10:47He's not.
10:47Right?
10:48So I watched Notre Dame, LSU, and Auburn, and he looked good in those games.
10:52You're right.
10:52He did not look good against Miami and Texas.
10:55But if you pick an A&M player, and if you watch just those two isolated, you're probably going to
11:01be knocking them down.
11:02I was trying to find, you know, I was trying to do things.
11:05I know you guys are doing the same thing, but we're all kind of a little bit of mercy of
11:09the tape we get.
11:10Sure.
11:10Yeah.
11:10But you're always trying to find the right matchup.
11:13You know, give me the matchups where they're dealing with guys.
11:16You know, like this guy has to block that, you know, block Hill, the linebacker, you know, or Burke or
11:21one of those guys.
11:21And now you can kind of see, but I, like I said, Miami is the litmus test.
11:27If you're blocking Miami's front, you know, I'm thinking, okay, well, this guy is, because that's the kind of guys
11:33he's going to have to face.
11:34But I just, like I said, I just, I didn't see a guy that played with great balance.
11:40And that, you know, but, I mean, the height and weight I was working with, 6'5", 315 pounds.
11:47What was he at the combine?
11:48Is he bigger than that?
11:50Because I, yeah, I wasn't, I need to go through and change all my, when I get my combine sheets,
11:56I'm going to change all these heights and weights to get an idea what that really was, what I was
12:02working with.
12:03All right.
12:03Appreciate you guys' feedback on that as I continue my first year journey, my rookie year of looking at these
12:09college players.
12:10I'm about 75 guys in and having an absolute blast talking draft with these two dudes.
12:14Cowboys have tendered both exclusive right free agents to Josh Butler at 107.
12:20That's interesting because they didn't even want to activate him last year.
12:23Josh Butler had a good 2024.
12:25Maybe they were just letting him recover from ACL.
12:26I don't know.
12:27Yeah.
12:27But they also tendered Reddy Stewart.
12:32So they're under contract with the Cowboys and cannot sign with any other team.
12:36The team is still working through final decisions on RFAs, Aubrey, Hoffman, Bass, Thomas.
12:41That was the report from Todd Archer.
12:44Although I'm pretty sure we got the news on Hoffman and Bass.
12:47But the Aubrey thing is quite fascinating.
12:49We'll see you next time.
