Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Eyelid surgery, medically called blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure that rejuvenates the eyelids by removing excess skin, fat, and sometimes muscle from the upper and/or lower eyelids. This results in a more alert, rested, and youthful appearance. In some cases, blepharoplasty can also improve vision obstructed by sagging upper eyelid skin.

How the Procedure Works

Blepharoplasty can be performed on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both, depending on your goals:

Upper Eyelid Surgery

Incisions are typically placed within the natural crease of the upper eyelid so that scars are well concealed. Excess skin and fat are removed, and muscles may be tightened if needed.

Lower Eyelid Surgery

For the lower lids, incisions may be placed just below the eyelashes or inside the eyelid (a transconjunctival approach) to address puffiness and redistribute or remove excess fat. If loose lower lid skin needs tightening, small amounts of skin may be removed through an outer incision.

Most procedures are performed using local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, depending on patient preference and the complexity of the surgery
