Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Eyelid surgery, medically called blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure that rejuvenates the eyelids by removing excess skin, fat, and sometimes muscle from the upper and/or lower eyelids. This results in a more alert, rested, and youthful appearance. In some cases, blepharoplasty can also improve vision obstructed by sagging upper eyelid skin.

Why Choose Eyelid Surgery?

The eyes are one of the first areas of the face to show signs of aging. Over time, the delicate skin around the eyes can stretch and lose elasticity, leading to:

Sagging or droopy upper eyelids

Puffiness or “bags” under the eyes

Excess skin that may partially block vision

A tired or aged appearance

Blepharoplasty is designed to address these concerns, creating a smoother, brighter eye area that complements your overall facial balance.

Personalized Consultation

During your eyelid surgery consultation with your surgeon, several key factors are evaluated:

Tear production and eye health

Visual obstructions or disturbances

Brow position (because brow sagging can mimic or worsen eyelid heaviness)

If brow ptosis (drooping of the brow) is present, a brow lift may be recommended in addition to or instead of blepharoplasty for the best aesthetic outcome. Your surgeon will discuss all options and tailor a surgical plan to your needs.

How the Procedure Works

Blepharoplasty can be performed on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both, depending on your goals:

Upper Eyelid Surgery

Incisions are typically placed within the natural crease of the upper eyelid so that scars are well concealed. Excess skin and fat are removed, and muscles may be tightened if needed.

Lower Eyelid Surgery

For the lower lids, incisions may be placed just below the eyelashes or inside the eyelid (a transconjunctival approach) to address puffiness and redistribute or remove excess fat. If loose lower lid skin needs tightening, small amounts of skin may be removed through an outer incision.

Most procedures are performed using local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, depending on patient preference and the complexity of the surgery
