How Hard is it to Beat Borderlands 2 With ONLY Legendaries?

Today I attempt to see how many farms it takes to beat Borderlands 2 with only legendary gear. This is a slightly updated version of my second most popular video, and its my first video that really took off, meaning that it's super old and the quality is nowhere near my newer videos. My main goal is to reach as many people as possible, so I've started posting to more sites. It will take time to upload all of my best videos, and remaster others, but my entire archive can be found on my YouTube!  I put tons of effort into every video I make, but this video had extra effort and quality put into it, because Borderlands 2 is my favorite game of all time. You can go ahead and harass me in the comments about "someone else already did this challenge", but I wanted to try it and put my own spin on a legendary only challenge. 00:00How hard is it to beat Borderlands 2 with only legendaries?

00:05The rules of this challenge are, I can only use legendary guns, shields, and grenades.

00:11Anything goes for class mods.

00:13And I will be using the Vault Hunter's Relic for better legendary chances.

00:18This is going to be a fresh normal mode run, and I can only use melee until I get a

00:24legendary

00:24gun.

00:24I went Maya because I haven't played as her in actual years, and she doesn't have

00:30a turret or a flying robot, so I think she's pretty balanced.

00:33And her skills do end up carrying me through multiple points in this run.

00:38As a bonus, I disabled Bar for a little bit more challenge.

00:42I'm also going to add these cool counters that show how many times I've reloaded the

00:47map to farm a certain enemy, and to show how many total legendaries I've gotten in this

00:52run.

00:52Now that we've gotten that out of the way, I unequip all my guns, and Cloudtrap gets

00:58his eye ripped out.

01:00My first taste of combat wasn't bad.

01:03I thought melee would be much worse than it was.

01:18Knuckle Dragger ran away most of the fight, meaning I had a great opportunity to punch

01:22him in the face.

01:29I won the boxing match, but he didn't drop a legendary.

01:32You know what this means.

01:34Farming time!

01:37After 9 reloads, I got my first legendary, and now I can start to play the game.

01:45As you can probably guess, being overleveled and having a legendary gun makes Liarsburg pretty

01:51easy.

01:54And then I go ahead and meet Hammerlock.

02:07While doing side quests, I came to the horrible realization that I can't use shields until I

02:13get a legendary one.

02:14This is going to be very interesting, and very annoying.

02:19I also decided to go kill Midge Monk.

02:21I learned that you can phase lock him.

02:24Unfortunately however, he didn't drop a legendary.

02:26I'm not going to farm him, I just wanted the experience from this place.

02:42I have a Corrosive Legendary against Armored Boom Boom.

02:46How do you think this went?

02:48It was a little scary considering I didn't have a shield, but Maya's phase lock is amazing.

02:53They didn't drop a bonus package, which means I can't use grenades.

02:57I did accidentally a few times, but I won't count that.

03:04I did decide to try and farm them a few times, but I was extremely unlucky.

03:10And after 4 more runs, I got nothing, and decided to give up and move on.

03:24Captain Flint himself wasn't too difficult to deal with.

03:27Of course there's his fire phase where he's invulnerable, but it's mostly all the minions

03:31he spawned that were getting me.

03:33Of course though, they were just free second wins.

03:36I've never really had trouble with Captain Flint, but at the same time, I don't think

03:40I've ever gotten a Legendary from him, and this time's no exception.

03:44One thing this playthrough has taught me however, is not having a shield does not fit my playstyle

03:50of running in and hoping for the best.

03:53This was my first death, and it was a little embarrassing.

03:56But to be fair, the enemies are just huge cowards who run away after you get knocked down anyways.

04:06I tried a few times to be cool and make this grenade jump, but let's just say I took the

04:12car instead.

04:14I talked to Corporal Reese, got this clutch second wind on a bad nomad, actually killed

04:21the 20 bloodshots, and got into Sanctuary, where I met the best character in the game.

04:49I forgot to turn in the mission to open the safe, but then I learned I have to go to

04:53Frostburn

04:54Canyon next.

04:56I help Dr. Z perform surgery, mostly so that I can get his next mission to get Doc Mercy,

05:03so I can hopefully get a Legendary from him.

05:06Next we meet Ritsuko, I mean Tannis.

05:10Awesome voice actress either way.

05:13Also, I require a new ventilator.

05:16This lab smells of bacon.

05:17Bacon is for sycophants and products of incest.

05:24My next goal is to farm for an unkempt herald.

05:27I pause the footage whenever I farm so that I don't waste storage space, but I actually

05:33got it first try.

05:34It's not the best, but it's still a Legendary and an unkempt herald, so I'll definitely take

05:40it.

05:41So I decided to try and farm for another unkempt herald, but let's just say I was very unlucky

05:47and added a total of 20 attempts to my list.

05:52But don't worry, it only gets worse from here.

05:5420 attempts and no Legendary?

05:56That's nothing.

05:57Normally Frostburn Canyon never gives me trouble, and it didn't give me too much here, but there

06:03is something I should probably note.

06:05I have no shield.

06:07Frostburn Canyon has mostly fire enemies.

06:10Yeah, it goes about how you'd expect.

06:13I just have to play range.

06:15The other thing I wanted to note is that Maya's deflection skill is absolutely broken in absence

06:20of a shield.

06:21So I am so glad I took this perk instead of going any other skill tree.

06:27I also got what is commonly referred to as a loot homie.

06:30He didn't drop anything good, but still, that's a pretty rare find, so I was excited

06:35to see one either way.

06:39This is the second time I have done this skip in my life.

06:43I've only done it once successfully.

06:45Why do I even try to be cool?

06:48Besides Lilith being annoying, as usual, and stealing all of my kills, this section was

06:53really easy.

06:54The Unkempt Herald is a very well balanced weapon, as we all know, and it seems to carry

07:00me through most of the game.

07:01I don't play much Maya, so I don't know what enemies you can and can't phase lock,

07:06but let me tell you, the ones you can, it's pretty broken.

07:09Like, the bad psychos just aren't allowed to play the game.

07:13I would kill to get a tesla like this in a normal run.

07:17Why do I get such a good grenade in a freaking legendary only run?

07:21Also, just because I want to play the game, class mods will be allowed.

07:26Like I said, anything goes for class mods.

07:28However, don't worry, I will redeem myself later on.

07:32On to the next farm, Bol.

07:34Now honestly, I had no clue what this guy dropped at the beginning, I just knew you could farm

07:39him, and he could drop a legendary, or at least had a higher chance.

07:43After just one additional attempt, I got a fastball, so that's what he drops.

07:48It's a really good grenade to get, especially early game like this, so I was excited.

07:54Honestly, I have no clue why I farmed for another one, but I did, and five runs later

07:59I got an explosive one, which was worse than the corrosive one.

08:03And honestly, I did not even use it, so five extra farms for no reason.

08:17As usual, I'd expected to farm Doc Mercy for quite a while.

08:22The fastball made that easy, but he just dropped a legendary instantly.

08:27I'll take it.

08:28The Infinity Pistol is extremely handy, especially with my limited pistol ammo.

08:32Also, I'd normally do the second part of this mission, but the E-Tech gun isn't technically

08:38legendary, so I decide against it.

08:43And of course, I got This Ain't My First Rodeo.

08:46I love this achievement, I always get it.

08:48And after that, I met the other greatest character in this game.

09:16These clips sum up why I love the fastball and how I got the car parts.

09:21I also raided the caravan for fun.

09:45I didn't have any grenades to fastball that ma with, but the unkempt herald is the unkempt.

09:51Not a difficult fight at all.

09:57The Bloodshot Stronghold wasn't too bad.

10:00Yet again, Deflection pretty much carried us through this entire section.

10:03It did get dicey in some parts, like here, but that's mostly melee and explosive enemies

10:09that we had to deal with.

10:10I also gained a few levels from farming badmaw around 6 times, but I got no good drops, so

10:17I'll add that here.

10:20Here's a summary of how most tough enemies went with the fastball.

10:26I only died a few times during this run, but this had to be the most annoying death.

10:32Like look at that, the fire went out, but I still took the dot damage.

10:36Not having a shield really sucks, but that was just an annoying glitch.

10:39After that, Roland gets abducted, I pay a toll, and the baddie loader gets fastballed.

10:47The warden fight wasn't too difficult, I was just trying to conserve my ammo up until

10:52this point.

10:53I used phase lock and the unkempt herald to whittle his shield down, and like most other

11:00enemies, he gets fastballed.

11:02I didn't have a fire weapon for a train to catch, but I used the machines to cheese it

11:06either way.

11:07These are normally pretty dangerous, but not having a shield would guarantee my death if

11:12I stood under one.

11:13But in one tap, we did it.

11:24And then, the single luckiest moment of the entire run.

11:28A random marauder dropped me a shield.

11:31The one thing I needed in this run, just a random enemy drops.

11:36That was awesome.

11:50Getting the badonkinox weren't too difficult, but the buzzards were a little annoying.

11:55But phase lock does an unreasonable amount of damage to them, and Mordecai's slag is

12:00a huge help.

12:01And one of the best lines in the game.

12:11If you can't guess how Wilhelm went, I believe he's technically armored, so a few fastballs.

12:19Yeah, fastball him.

12:20I honestly expected this to be a little bit more difficult.

12:23So, I decided to do some farming.

12:26After a total of 9 extra farms, I got a Logan's Gun.

12:30I also got a Rolling Thunder grenade at some point, but I don't have the cliff of that.

12:35I don't know where it went.

12:36So, 9 attempts and 2 more legendaries.

12:40Neither of which I used.

12:41I decided to speed up and speed run rising action.

12:47And all of Scooter's lines are amazing.

12:58While in the fridge, I also decided to do Fink's Slaughterhouse.

13:02I only got up to round 3 in here, and I was mostly doing it for the experience either way.

13:07I would have gone further if ammo and damage wasn't a huge issue.

13:12Maya's phase lock is also amazing at preventing this exploder from blowing up the bridge, so

13:16that's nice.

13:19The Constructor was no big deal since it's a normal one, but it would have been way faster

13:24to kill if I had any grenades.

13:28The Thresher was also pretty easy.

13:30I cheesed a bit of his health off early on before he could get his shield.

13:35And I thought it would be pretty easy after that.

13:38But then he does this pretty funny thing where he just regenerates shield for a long time,

13:43and negates most of my damage.

13:46But after that, it's an easy kill.

13:48No real trouble here.

13:50Defending the beacon wasn't difficult, but this happened during the fight.

13:57I've never seen this many Exploders before.

14:02Why are there so many?

14:04But yeah, so besides that, the fight wasn't difficult, and I didn't lose the beacon.

14:14Normally this part in the Wildlife Exploitation Preserve is really annoying, but the Unkempt

14:19Herald comes in handy yet again, making Crippling the Lotus extremely easy.

14:25Which is nice, because I absolutely hate this part.

14:28The rest of the mobbing was also extremely easy.

14:32Now I will do the Natural Selection Annex later, but grabbing this checkpoint is essential

14:37for the Legendary Farm here.

14:39Because if you save and quit, you start at this point in the map instead.

14:43And at this point, you can probably guess what carries me through the mobbing.

14:48Unkempt Herald, and of course, our best friend, the Fastball.

14:54This is one of my favorite places, mostly because it's the best Legendary Farm in the game.

14:59So I'll be farming these loot homies until I get some good Legendaries.

15:05But on the first try, we get an awesome gun.

15:10I am happy to see you.

15:14After 5 additional farms, I'm going to make up the class mod to you guys.

15:19I got a Legendary Siren class mod, the exact one I wanted.

15:24The chances of this have to be very low.

15:27I also got a Hellfire, which is insanely useful, but the class mod is what kind of stunned me.

15:34After farming those loot homies, I decided to do the Natural Selection Annex.

15:39And I got a Legendary from Round 2.

15:42I didn't get any others from this, but still, this was an awesome find, considering it's

15:47a huge upgrade to my current grenade.

15:50And I love the Quasar.

15:51Round 5 got a little bit dicey near the end, but I managed to get a Quasar after this second

15:58win, and took out the bad Fire Thresher.

16:02Everything else was going fine.

16:04I was planning to go eat lunch after completing this level, but the game had other plans.

16:11Oh, come on!

16:14But hey, at least I got to eat lunch a little bit sooner.

16:17But on the bright side, I did get another Legendary, even after picking up the item from the boxes.

16:26While going through the rest of the level, I opened up a locker that spawned another loot

16:30homie, and this one just happened to drop another Legendary.

16:34This is also amazing.

16:36The Curve Blaster actually carried me through quite a bit of this game.

16:40I honestly wish I could say more about the Bloodwing fight, but, uh, yeah, she kinda just

16:45got melted by the conference call.

16:48I'm also overleveled, so that helps a bit, but, yeah, there was no challenge to this at

16:53all.

16:54She was basically spawn camp.

16:57Here's a prime example of how all of the mobbing went after the preserve.

17:00Maya, plus Convergence, plus Quasar, plus Curve Blaster.

17:05A devastating combo.

17:29If it wasn't obvious mobbing here wasn't difficult, the beacons were tough as usual.

17:35But, the baddie loader was also extremely simple.

17:38But guess what happened?

17:40I had an embarrassing death to my own baby maker.

17:48Opportunity is the same as usual.

17:52I also got some side quests, both for XP, some fun.

17:57But then, I came to a sudden realization.

18:00Oh wait, he can draw the shield!

18:02Before farming Jasper, I decided to do the rest of the quests and opportunity.

18:07Killing Jax by a double wasn't too difficult.

18:10You can't phase lock him, annoyingly.

18:12But you know, baby maker is extremely overpowered.

18:17I got the pocket watch, and now Maya sounds like Jack.

18:25And after 6 attempts, I now have a new awesome shield.

18:29And now that we have everything, it's time to go to Angel Core.

18:33The first constructor, of course, was no big deal.

18:36The baby turrets, considering this is a completely normal run, was no big deal.

18:41The baddie constructor at the top threw me for a little bit of a loop, considering it was

18:45the same level as me.

18:46I tried to get its own nukes to kill it, but that failed.

18:50Considering the auto turrets are stationary targets, the baby maker, more importantly the

18:55Kerr Blaster, made easy work of them.

18:57The only thing that was weird about the Bunker fight is the fact that I have not fought Bunker

19:03legitimately in a while.

19:04My last playthrough was 0, and uh, Bore exists, so I'm used to just boring Bunker to death.

19:12But uh, yeah, it felt weird to fight Bunker legitimately with Maya, but I used conference

19:17call for medium range.

19:19I used the baby maker for close range.

19:23But overall, there wasn't too great of a challenge.

19:27But I didn't get any legendaries on this try, and that's unfortunate.

19:31It means we'll have to come back and farm him later.

19:33Let's see here, I already talked about the amazing mobbing combo.

19:37What's so special about Angel Core?

19:40Oh right, so I beat Angel Core.

19:43Yeah, I beat Angel Core.

19:45But the game does this funny thing where it decides to, you know, crash before it's saved.

19:53Oh, come on!

19:57So guess what that means?

19:59I have to do it, all over again.

20:02I did Angel Core twice, and got none of the benefits.

20:08Markus' loot room had nothing good, as usual.

20:12After entering the Iridium Blight, you normally have to go to Sawtooth Cauldron.

20:17However, I decided to go farm Bunker for a while.

20:21I hate it when legendaries fall through the floor.

20:24But on my first additional farm, I got an 85% sham.

20:29That's pretty amazing, and it will help me through quite a bit of the rest of the game.

20:34The only issue is, I think I've used up most of my luck for this run.

20:38Because after 9 more Bunker Farms, I got no legendaries.

20:43I decided to try and farm King Mong for something, and it took me 14 farms to get a single

20:51legendary.

20:52Yeah, my luck has run out at this point.

20:55I used it all up getting that first shield.

20:58Since I'm grossly over-leveled from all of that Bunker and King Mong farming, I have a very easy time

21:05with Sawtooth Cauldron.

21:07Which is nice, because this place is usually hell for any run.

21:20And the Borderlands 2 Classic, the game crashed.

21:23Thankfully though, this wasn't a horrible spot, and I could get back here relatively quick.

21:28I speed ran destroying Boombringer.

21:31Mortar dropped me literally nothing.

21:36And the Buzzards at the top?

21:38Well, like I said in Tundra Express, Phase Lock is very good against Buzzards.

21:43And, you know, we have the conference call.

21:46I also learned that you can trigger this just by driving your car close to the pipe.

21:50You don't even have to get out, which is pretty awesome.

21:53However, it was at this point in the game where I started to notice that my gear's lacking a bit.

21:58I mean, most of it is level 17, to be fair.

22:02So, I'm not doing great damage.

22:05And this would soon prove to be a major issue.

22:08I managed to push through all the pumping stations, albeit very slowly.

22:14Man, this is way better than messing up the car jump a hundred times.

22:18The Badlands wasn't too difficult.

22:21And I decided to, of course, go to kill Saturn.

22:24I will admit though, I may have died here.

22:27Which is a little embarrassing considering I should have definitely killed him.

22:38But I came back and got my revenge.

22:40And decided to farm Saturn for a little bit.

22:43After seven runs and no legendaries.

22:47Even when I was farming Bonehead for some extra XP.

22:50I was starting to be concerned.

22:52I decided to finish the rest of the story mission here.

22:56But I had an issue.

22:58I was starting to run out of good legendary farms.

23:01Sure, there are a few quests that I could do to get some legendary farms.

23:04But that would take a while.

23:08After starting the talent of God.

23:11And doing some testing before I really went on with the mission.

23:14I figured out that the cataclysm tree is broken.

23:18It's way better than the motion tree.

23:20Mostly because the bottom skill of motion is garbage.

23:24At least in my opinion.

23:25And the bottom skill of cataclysm is absolutely broken.

23:29And that's what carries us through the rest of this run.

23:32And cloud kill.

23:33Cloud kill is broken.

23:35So yeah.

23:36I'll be honest.

23:37A good portion of the rest of the game is literally carried by cloud kill.

23:41I literally take out the baby maker.

23:43Fire one shot.

23:44And I kill two bots.

23:46Yeah.

23:46This might be my new favorite skill in this entire game.

24:04Cloud kill also makes easy work of my least favorite enemy.

24:09You can go ahead and harass me in the comments about this run is now invalid.

24:13Because I've been using a skill to carry me the entire time.

24:16But I think mine was probably the most balanced choice for this run.

24:21Also, the cloud kill is technically a legendary.

24:24So, cope.

24:26I also like it because it's another skill that can kill these stupid autocannons.

24:32Generally, I don't really have a major issue with this bad constructor.

24:36And I actually like killing it instead of running away.

24:39But this time, it provided a little bit of a challenge.

24:42I even got knocked into a fight for my life.

24:44But I did get a clutch second win from one of the turrets on it.

24:48So, I won.

24:55At first, I thought Jack might be a little bit of a difficult fight.

24:59But honestly, between the broken phase lock slag cloud kill.

25:05And Jack deciding to stand still to do his little animation.

25:09He got melted.

25:11Like, I think that's the fastest I've ever killed Jack.

25:15The warrior...

25:16Well, the warrior also kind of got melted.

25:20Just a little bit slower than Jack.

25:22Especially when he dives under lava and you can't hit him.

25:26But I think the main reason I did so much damage to him.

25:29Is because he can actually get slagged.

25:32As you can see by the slag lick challenge I got there.

25:35So, I slag him with my phase lock.

25:37Cloud kill just does an insane amount of damage.

25:40Considering he stays still.

25:42And then, you know, conference call and curb blaster are great for huge targets.

25:47You know, like the warrior.

25:49So, yeah.

25:50There was no real challenge to this fight.

25:52It's a little unfortunate.

25:54But it made for a satisfying ending to a crazy run like this.

26:10And to sum up most of my luck in this run, I got a legendary from killing him the first

26:15time.

26:16But it's gonna take me a while to get another one.

26:19So, yeah.

26:21Plus one legendary.

26:22And it's a pretty good shield too.

26:23It's very effective at farming Rack here.

26:26Which is another good source of XP.

26:28But with the warrior and Jack dead.

26:31How hard is it to beat Broilance 2 with only legendaries?

26:34Well, it took us 93 total farm attempts.

26:37And we got 17 legendaries in total.

26:40This was an insanely fun run.

26:42And honestly, I think I like doing challenge runs.

27:12But we're not quite done.

27:13You see, my goal is to get three legendaries from the warrior.

27:17And I got a shield, so it's time to farm for two more.

27:21Yeah.

27:23No rest for the wicked.

27:26Also, here's the total playthrough time after I did the next farming section.

27:31One last thing for anyone who's curious.

27:33This is before I farm for two more legendaries.

27:36This is my final build of the run.

27:38I still can't believe I beat warrior with level 17 gear.

27:42But yet again, that class mod.

27:44Getting that insanely rare drop is one of the best things that's happened to me in this entire run.

27:50After two more attempts, I got myself a flacker.

27:53It isn't the best legendary, but it's actually very effective against warrior.

27:57Which is convenient for farming him.

27:59After five more attempts, I got a volcano.

28:03This could be useful later on.

28:05So apparently I didn't count the shield when I meant three more legendaries.

28:10But after 17 more attempts when I was about to give up, I got a leech.

28:15In total, 117 attempts and 20 legendaries.

28:20Anyways, thank you all for watching.
