00:00So hold my pinky.
00:01No, no, you've got to pinch it.
00:03Oh, the noises that come out of him.
00:07They haven't got chips at the canteen.
00:10Well, I had two hours to be like, what are all the bangers I can download?
00:13So he just downloaded Saturday's gross chips.
00:16Saturday's seven minute Megamix, yeah, baby.
00:17I wish that were a joke, but I did.
00:20Radio One stars Molly King and Matt Edmondson
00:22are putting their comedy chemistry to the ultimate test
00:25with their new podcast, Novel Idea.
00:27It's a podcast between Matt and I, writing a novel, alternating chapters as we go.
00:33So Matt writes a chapter, I write a chapter, Matt writes a chapter.
00:37You get the idea.
00:38To celebrate the launch of this crime meets comedy podcast,
00:41we wanted to test how well they really know each other,
00:43throwing them into murder mystery scenarios
00:45to see how their detective skills and friendship hold up under pressure.
00:50Molly King, Matt Edmondson.
00:51Hello.
00:51Thank you so much for joining us today.
00:53How are you feeling in our interrogation room?
00:55Is it intense?
00:55A little bit.
00:56Yes.
00:56I thought in honour of Novel Idea was to do a little bit of a
01:00how well do you know each other style game.
01:02Love it already.
01:03We're tying in the themes of the podcast.
01:05So we're doing a little bit of a murder mystery style.
01:07I love it.
01:08Good luck, man.
01:09Good luck, man.
01:10We're so good at this.
01:11We're going to kick things off with
01:13who is most likely to get distracted by an irrelevant detail in the case.
01:18Three, two, one.
01:19This guy loves the tiny details and he loves to go off on a tangent.
01:23And I'm often like, let's just stick to what we're doing here.
01:26We've got limited time and this is what we're here to do.
01:29Do you like a side quest?
01:30I don't have a main quest.
01:32All I have is side quests.
01:34It's quite hard to work with this guy.
01:36Incredible, actually, that you've decided to do a podcast together.
01:39I know.
01:39How did you find the experience of novel writing with both of your personality types?
01:44Good question.
01:45I think because we were doing it separately, so we had a week to write our-
01:49She's not really wanting to do it.
01:51There's not much collaboration, which was great news for me.
01:53So we'd have a week to each go away and write our chapter.
01:56So you, classic Matt, would love to leave it to the very last, I mean, few hours until it needs
02:02to be handed in.
02:03I liked to do a lot of it in the middle of the night.
02:06Yes.
02:06So I would, and I'd write it on my notes.
02:08And actually, when you hear the podcast, there's a couple of quite major errors that were caused because of that.
02:16So by comparison, were you writing your chapters, like, sort of by candlelight with a typewriter?
02:22So I, I've blocked the day out and I'm going to do this.
02:25And I'm going to go and get a coffee in the morning.
02:27And I'm going to sit by my window channeling Carrie Bradshaw, of course, like croissant, coffee, and just be typing.
02:34Chain smoking and just, yeah.
02:35Yeah, I left that bit out.
02:37I knew something was missing.
02:38Who would befriend the murderer without realizing?
02:42It's Molly.
02:43Yeah, it's me.
02:43So sorry, I just struck you with a bat.
02:46What was the original question?
02:47Who would befriend the murderer?
02:49Oh, it would be Molly.
02:50Me.
02:50It would be Molly.
02:51I like to make friends.
02:53She befriends absolutely everyone.
02:54And, and it's, to a point where it's slightly annoying.
02:57So, so Ready One has a festival that takes place in Ibiza every year.
03:01When Molly arrived at Ready One, they were like, Molly, come to Ibiza.
03:04I said, what?
03:05I've been here for ages.
03:06They've never invited you.
03:07Never invited him.
03:08They invited Molly.
03:09Second year.
03:09Oh, okay.
03:10And then she came back from Ibiza and she had made all of these Ibiza friends.
03:15He called them my Ibiza friends.
03:16And I feel like it broke you for a bit.
03:18He was like, you've got other friends?
03:20And I just kept seeing them around the office.
03:21Like, hey, hey, Alex.
03:23Hey, Jane.
03:24Yeah, he's not over it.
03:25He's beaten up with jealousy.
03:26Molly befriends everyone.
03:27I think you see the best in everybody.
03:29I do.
03:29I do try to.
03:30And I think even if you found out they were a murderer, you'd be interested to know the circumstances.
03:35I would say why.
03:36Yeah.
03:37Why has it come to this?
03:38You're okay.
03:39Yeah.
03:40Who would have the most elaborate theory about the case?
03:44You guys are more in sync than, like, the Wicked press tour.
03:47Yeah.
03:47Yeah.
03:47So far.
03:48Yeah, yeah.
03:48I love that comparison.
03:50Yeah.
03:50Hold my, hold my pinky.
03:51That's it.
03:52No, no, you've got to pinch it.
03:56Pinch my pointy.
03:57Oh, please.
03:59I like problems.
04:00Yeah.
04:00And I like coming up with solutions.
04:02Now, the solutions I come up with are often, as judged by other people, not good or a bit mad.
04:08It might be, like, a logistical thing in my own life.
04:11It drives my wife up the wall because she's like, okay, we've got a situation where I'm at work and
04:17you're at work at the same time.
04:18And we've got to drop the kids at school.
04:19And how's that going to happen?
04:20I'm like, let me just go to my mind about this.
04:23And I'm like, okay, I've got a solution.
04:25You're not going to like it.
04:27But I've cracked it.
04:29Who would do the best dramatic reveal?
04:33100%.
04:34I have found myself in a situation where I am engaged to, and my best friend is, the two most
04:42dramatic people I've ever met in my life.
04:44And I'm like, how has this happened?
04:46The noises that come out of him.
04:48They haven't got chips at the canteen.
04:53To be fair, that's a very valid response.
04:57The worst version of that, I'm sure I've told you this, is that I once had to go and DJ
05:01at an event.
05:03And I couldn't find the USB stick with all of my music on it.
05:07And it was fine.
05:08Downloaded music on the train.
05:09It was a rip-roaring success.
05:11Did you copy the playlist that you'd initially planned?
05:14Or was it like, I'm going with something totally different?
05:15Well, I had two hours to be like, what are all the bangers I can download?
05:18So we've just downloaded Saturday's gross kit.
05:21Saturday's seven minute.
05:22Saturday's seven minute Megamix, yeah, baby.
05:23I wish that were a joke, but I did.
05:25Hopefully you've heard enough about this podcast that you're itching to listen to it.
05:29It's out now.
05:31As quoted by The Independent, all of the odd chapters are a triumph.
05:36He is unbearable.
05:38Come and have a listen, and you'll know it's all about the even chapters.
05:41Matt and Molly's novel idea is out now.
