00:00Just that we're really silly.
00:02Like, I don't think people realize how silly Idris is.
00:07Like...
00:07I think we're with her.
00:08He is such an ad, you both.
00:10You didn't get that from me, though.
00:12And, like, you know, and I...
00:16Like, we just love being goofy and having fun,
00:18and that's a big dynamic in our relationship.
00:23But I'm really excited to talk with you guys about your podcast.
00:27You're preparing for season two of Coupledom,
00:29which returns in May.
00:31And to return for another season,
00:32the assumption is that you're really enjoying
00:34what you're doing, the conversations that you're having.
00:37So what is it about having these conversations
00:39with interesting couples and friends and family members
00:42that you love so much?
00:45You know, we really started the podcast
00:47as a way for us to kind of learn and grow ourselves, right?
00:51And that's addictive, at least to me.
00:54Like, I love hearing people talk about, you know,
00:56times that were maybe tough for them
00:58or times that they had growth
01:00or times that they, you know,
01:02had to get through something.
01:04Like, I love that.
01:05It's like, I don't want to stop.
01:07So it's been super fun,
01:09and it's so great to be able to do it again.
01:11And now to be able to do it in a way
01:13that maybe I feel like I have a bit more footing
01:15or a bit more grounding in my own relationship
01:19to be able to feed back and say,
01:20oh, yes, I've been through that as well.
01:23And, I mean, it's been so great.
01:25It's been such a good learning experience.
01:28Yes.
01:28Okay.
01:29And what is a tip or a tool that you've learned
01:32or maybe a story someone shared
01:33that you spoke to on the podcast,
01:35maybe in the first season
01:36or, you know, in the second season
01:38as it's rolling out that has stayed with you?
01:40Maybe some kind of lesson or advice
01:42that you kind of heard.
01:43Is there any that's, you know, really stuck with you?
01:45Um, well, I mean, you know,
01:50everyone has, like, really, like,
01:53specific to their own.
01:56But the one thing I think is the overarching theme
02:01is this idea of openness,
02:04being open to solving issues,
02:07being open to learning new things,
02:09being open to what your partner does
02:11versus what you do
02:12and how you do it versus what they do.
02:14And that openness has been, like,
02:16something that always pings up for me,
02:18at least in the podcast,
02:19when I hear, wow, you really had to open up.
02:22That's what I always go for,
02:24is that you had to really open up.
02:25Yeah.
02:25To accept that.
02:28And that's been, I think, for me,
02:30the biggest nugget is how open,
02:32because, you know, we can all be closed off.
02:33And I think, you know, generally over the last year,
02:36two, three years, in fact, you know,
02:38we've all found a way to close off a little bit
02:41because of the state of the world,
02:44the pandemic and just the residue of that.
02:47And so to listen to people talk about being open
02:50to really difficult situations,
02:53being open to a very opposing perspective,
02:57you know, it makes you feel like
02:58there's some faith in humanity.
03:00You know, I really do that
03:01because I think it is openness
03:03that actually is going to set us free.
03:07You know, if you're closed off to one community
03:10or you're closed off to one set of a race
03:13or you're closed off to, you know,
03:15a certain way to make money, you know,
03:17the world isn't going to get anywhere.
03:20We all could take a degree of openness
03:22and, you know, and digest that.
03:25So that's the one thing that's taken off.
03:27But there's been great stories.
03:28Yes, there's been great stories and great tidbits.
03:31I think Sabrina's favorite is from,
03:33what's the couple?
03:34Robert Lopez.
03:35Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson.
03:37When they fight,
03:39they communicate.
03:42So one person will say something
03:45and before the other person responds,
03:47they have to repeat what they just heard
03:50and then say their part, right?
03:54Okay, that's different.
03:55I mean, that's different.
03:57For me, that will turn into,
03:59so let me get it straight.
04:00You just said,
04:02that's what that would turn into me.
04:05So let me get it straight.
04:06You just said,
04:07your socks need to go into the basket.
04:10Okay.
04:11Now here's what I want to say about that.
04:13Yeah, I guess that's true, right?
04:15I thought it was fascinating
04:16because just to be able to step out of it
04:19in the midst of an argument
04:20when things are heated,
04:21I mean, that is so admirable for me
04:25and I was like,
04:26I kind of wish that I could do that.
04:29So that stuck with me for sure.
04:31Okay, nice.
04:31And it proves that you're listening too
04:33and not just like going after each other
04:35in the argument.
04:36So that's true.
04:36That's cool.
04:37Yeah, yeah.
04:38I saw you thinking about it.
04:39I was, I was like, that's deep.
04:41I don't even know if I can do it,
04:42but I'm listening.
04:43So I'll try to, I'll practice that.
04:45And is there a couple or a duo,
04:48dead or alive out there
04:49that's, you know, come or gone
04:51that you'd love to have a conversation with?
04:54Oh, yeah.
04:54Oh, yeah.
04:55We're big.
04:57We'd love to sit with the Obamas.
05:01Just, you know.
05:02They're a bubbleist for sure.
05:03Yeah.
05:04I think they, their relationship
05:05and their partnership,
05:08both in love and in work and in duty,
05:12is incredible.
05:14And I think, you know,
05:16an examination of that
05:18would be really insightful
05:20for anyone who got the chance
05:22to listen to that.
05:25They make us very proud
05:27as human beings,
05:29but also I just imagine
05:30that their lives aren't as easy
05:33as people may think.
05:36So it'd be great to hear
05:37how they've achieved that harmony,
05:40which seems so apparent, you know.
05:41But that's interesting
05:43that you asked dead or alive.
05:44I hadn't really thought
05:45of that before
05:46because I would have definitely
05:48wanted to have people
05:49like Whitney and Bobby
05:51or like just to even just,
05:55I mean,
05:57they, I'm sure they had stuff
05:59that people could learn from.
06:00Like, I'm sure, you know.
06:03I never thought about that.
06:04That's interesting.
06:05And how is it working
06:07with one another
06:07on this podcast?
06:08As you mentioned,
06:10the Obamas,
06:10they have their partnership
06:11both in life
06:13and in everything they have to do.
06:15You know, people can say
06:15working with a partner
06:16shows you different things
06:17about them
06:18and about your relationship
06:19in different ways.
06:20So how has it been for you guys?
06:22I think it's been good.
06:23You know,
06:23we had to take
06:27an educational curve
06:28on how to work
06:29with each other
06:30the best way,
06:31the most efficient way.
06:33Busy lives.
06:34And then obviously,
06:35you know,
06:36wanting to nourish
06:37our relationship.
06:38I'm very much,
06:39you know,
06:39I can compartmentalize
06:41things quite easily,
06:42you know.
06:43And Sabrina,
06:44you know,
06:44Sabrina would be
06:45in an interview
06:46and be like,
06:46ooh, blah, blah, blah, blah.
06:48That'd freak me out, right?
06:50I'd be like,
06:50well, how did we get there?
06:53Because I'm working.
06:54But, you know,
06:55that was really interesting
06:56and sort of like
06:57just calibrating that.
07:00I think we do
07:00a good job of it now.
07:03And I think
07:04one of the things
07:05that I think
07:05we're both keen on
07:07is being open,
07:08you know.
07:09I think there's a lot of,
07:10there's a lot of,
07:11when we first got together
07:13and it was quite public,
07:14you know,
07:14there's a lot of perceptions
07:15and assumptions about us
07:17as a couple.
07:18And I think we both love
07:20sort of dispelling that,
07:21you know,
07:22especially by being open,
07:23you know.
07:23I'm not famous
07:25for being open
07:26about my personal life,
07:28you know.
07:29So this is new territory
07:30for me,
07:31but it's great.
07:33Yeah, you'd agree.
07:34Okay, nice.
07:35And you said you have,
07:36you know,
07:37you weren't used to being open
07:38about your relationship.
07:39And I think,
07:39like you said,
07:40there are perceptions about you.
07:41You guys are great looking people.
07:42So I don't know,
07:43people have all kind of thoughts
07:44and stuff.
07:45But what is something
07:46about you guys
07:47as a couple
07:47that people would be surprised
07:48to learn?
07:49Like, are you guys
07:49always in sweats at home?
07:51Do you like to go
07:52out for like beer?
07:54Like, what is a fun thing
07:55about you guys
07:56that people would be surprised
07:57to learn?
07:58Just that we're really silly.
08:00Like, I don't think
08:00people realize
08:01how silly Idris is.
08:05Like, I mean,
08:05I was there.
08:06He is that joke.
08:08I didn't get that from Luther.
08:11And like, you know,
08:13and I, like,
08:14we just love being goofy
08:15and having fun.
08:16And that's a big dynamic
08:18in our relationship.
08:19And I mean,
08:20even when we're working,
08:21unfortunately for me,
08:22I can't help but be
08:23a little bit,
08:24you know,
08:25just, it's hard for me
08:26to stay serious for sure.
08:28We can be in the same house
08:29on two different
08:30gaming consoles
08:31and go at it.
08:34You know,
08:34that's something
08:35that we actually,
08:36we don't have that much
08:37time to do it
08:38because Sabrina can play
08:39for five to six hours
08:40straight.
08:41Wow.
08:43And I can too,
08:44but you know.
08:45Here's the I can too.
08:47Yeah, I can too,
08:48but less.
08:49Come on.
08:50If I have a new game,
08:52I have to finish it.
08:53So I like to put in the time
08:55for a week
08:56and then I'm done.
08:57For a week?
08:58I wish I had a week.
08:59I don't have a week.
09:00Well, yeah,
09:00I don't have the whole week,
09:01but I will dedicate
09:03some space,
09:04move some time.
09:05And lastly,
09:06I'm going to leave you guys,
09:08but I wanted to ask you,
09:09you know,
09:09you're approaching
09:09your anniversary
09:10at the end of this month.
09:12Congratulations on,
09:13I think,
09:13three years.
09:14Yes.
09:16How is it,
09:17you know,
09:17the theme of your podcast
09:18is like how being,
09:20having the right partnerships
09:21and friendship and family
09:22and love
09:23can make you,
09:25can help you be your best selves.
09:26So how has being together
09:27allowed you to be your best selves
09:29both separately and together?
09:31For me,
09:32I think it's learning
09:33and being open to learning.
09:36And I will happily admit
09:38that I don't know
09:39everything that's right
09:40and be receptive
09:43of whatever Idris thinks
09:45might work
09:45or not work in that moment.
09:48I think for me,
09:49really,
09:49it's been that.
09:50And what has it been for you?
09:54Exercise in patience.
09:56I work in an industry
09:58where,
09:58you know,
09:59everything's to the time.
10:00It's like,
10:00you have to be here,
10:02there,
10:02then done.
10:03And,
10:03you know,
10:04it's conditioned me
10:04because I just don't have
10:06much patience oftentimes
10:07because I'm so used
10:08to a regimented,
10:10scheduled lifestyle.
10:11Yeah.
10:13And that's very,
10:15you know,
10:15I think being with Sabrina
10:17and working together
10:19as business partners
10:20where things don't always
10:21go to schedule
10:22has really opened up
10:23my patience.
10:27Patience and tolerance,
10:28you know,
10:28for just gray areas,
10:31things that,
10:31you know,
10:32the film industry
10:32does not allow for.
10:34So,
10:35yeah,
10:36that's been definitely
10:37a big one for me.
10:38Patience.
10:39I love that.
10:40Well,
10:40this has been a total pleasure
10:42talking to you guys.
10:43I'm a big fan.
10:44You know,
10:45I've been watching
10:46since The Wire
10:47and everything.
10:48So,
10:48it's a big honor.
10:49And Sabrina,
10:50you're,
10:50you know,
10:51I've seen you,
10:51you're doing great things.
10:52You're gorgeous.
10:53But I really appreciate you guys' time
10:55and I'll let everybody know
10:56to check out season two
10:57with a couple of them.
11:39the same house
11:39on two different gaming consoles
11:41and go at it.
11:44You know,
11:44that's,
11:44that's something that we actually,
11:46do we don't have that much time to do it
11:48because Sabrina can play
11:49for five to six hours straight.
11:51Wow.
11:53And I can too,
11:54but you know,
11:55I can too.
11:57Yeah,
11:57I can too,
11:57but less.
11:59Come on.
12:00If I,
12:01if I have a new game,
12:01I have to finish it.
12:03So I like to put in the time
12:05for a week
12:06and then I'm done.
12:07For a week.
12:07I wish I had a week.
12:09Well,
12:10yeah,
12:10I don't have the whole week,
12:11but I will,
12:12I will dedicate some space,
12:14move some time.
12:15And lastly,
12:16I'm going to leave you guys,
12:17but I wanted to ask you,
12:18you know,
12:19you're approaching your anniversary
12:20at the end of this month.
12:21congratulations on,
12:23I think three years.
12:23Yes.
12:26How is it,
12:27you know,
12:27the theme of your podcast
12:28is like how being,
12:30having the right partnerships
12:31and friendship
12:31and family
12:32and love
12:33can make you,
12:34can help you be your best selves.
12:36So how has being together
12:37allowed you to be your best selves
12:39both separately
12:40and together?
