00:01Social media influencer Siu Puyi's dispute with her former business partner Lai Kaijian has taken a new turn following the
00:09latter's arrest.
00:11Her lawyer Kay Mahendran said Magistrate Nur Shahira Sukri issued a four-day remand order against Lai today to enable
00:19him to assist in a police probe under Section 420 of the Penal Code for alleged cheating.
00:26Timur Laod Deputy Police Chief Lee Sui Sek confirmed the remand when contacted.
00:32In July 2024, Siu obtained default judgment in the High Court for RM4.3 million against Lai after he failed
00:40to enter an appearance to defend the suit.
00:43In the suit, Siu alleged that Lai, also known as Mentos, absconded with funds intended to be used to settle
00:50her tax dues with the Inland Revenue Board.
00:52She said the tax arrears led to an LHDN travel ban which caused her to miss four events in Australia.
