00:00DAP Youth has expressed concern over the manner in which the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission
00:06is seeking James Chai, a former aide to Rafizi Rumley, to assist in an investigation.
00:13In a statement, DAP Youth Chief Wu Kaleong said MACC's actions risked creating a climate of fear among Malaysians
00:21due to the impression that enforcement powers could be used in an intimidating manner.
00:27Wu added that Chai, a visiting fellow at Singaporean think tank Isis Yusuf Ishaq Institute,
00:34was not a fugitive financier like Lothik Zhou or a powerful businessman facing corruption allegations.
00:42Yesterday, MACC issued a public search notice for Chai, who served as a special functions officer to Rafizi
00:49and is currently working in the UK.
00:52Chai criticised the search notice which displayed the address of his childhood home,
00:57saying it was excessive and appeared to be intended to portray him as a fugitive with something to hide.
01:04However, MACC said its investigating officers made several attempts to contact him before the notice was issued
01:11and that one officer was even blocked by Chai's telephone number on WhatsApp on February 26th.
