00:00World Series champion Jordan Montgomery and I think the first and most important question is
00:05what's happened to your Sudoku game over the past couple of years?
00:09Took a year off raising a baby and a puppy and brain went dead so getting it moving again.
00:16Do you feel like so we have a three-year-old and a three-year-old dog and I feel
00:20like their
00:21personalities are oddly similar. Do you feel like your baby and dog's personalities are similar at
00:27well if so then we were in for a lot so we got the puppy and then basically like a
00:36week later found
00:36out my wife is pregnant so we have a nine-month-old puppy who is a polar bear bone retriever
00:43mix he's
00:46huge I don't believe he's just a bone retriever but he is he's gonna be 100 pounds he is bulldozes
00:55his way through doors kind of does whatever he wants so so while a lot of people are here to
00:59train and whatnot you need to sleep here is what I'm hearing right yeah thankfully he's in summer
01:05camp with my parents so um him and my seven-year-old golden retriever having a good time what's just
01:14what's it like I mean we were all here three years ago that feel of the start of something special
01:20what's it like being back here it's just the same vibes same culture um
01:28it's kind of like we didn't miss a beat you know we got a just a group of guys that
01:33are all working
01:33hard and enjoy being around each other and um it definitely makes driving to the field
01:42wanting to be here getting here early hanging out you know it makes it much easier so and I wanted
01:49to
01:49kind of expand on that just a little bit because you know how sometimes people are like oh they get
01:53millions of dollars blah blah blah do you think people lose sight of like it can still be difficult
01:58to come to work at times yeah I mean it still can be it's a hard job um especially if
02:04you're not
02:04playing the game well which it's a hard game um you want to enjoy who you're around you want to
02:11be doing
02:12stuff away from the field because some of these guys don't have family or are away from their
02:19family it's like my wife is resident in med school so wow see uh she's here on the weekends so
02:29so you guys have the busiest of everything yes yeah we uh we chose poorly but why is it
02:36it'll all work it'll all be fun now the uh one of the things our audience revisits constantly is
02:42that diving catch in tampa bay how often does that flicker through your mind or are you allowed
02:47to reflect on that no uh people give me a hard time about it every time we do pfps pop
02:53fly communications
02:53they're like hey like money's done he doesn't need gloves at first base we know it's there so it's a
03:01good funny joke gets a little chuckle every time someone says it but for for our our fan base like
03:08that is a moment that launched for me specifically i'm i say it all the time i'm like that launched
03:13the whole team you could see how fired up they were and everything that's a unique feeling to this game
03:18yeah i mean uh i think i remember the next day seeing the replay and nate's face like
03:27i was like no way uh but challenge and be like let's see you yeah honestly i want you to
03:36camp under
03:36next time um yeah i mean it i it'll be something i never forget um glad my my brother and
03:45my dad were
03:46there yeah it was just uh just a really cool day but for as much as we all love 2023
03:50everything moves
03:52forward where are you at in your recovery process and what do you work on right now
03:58uh i am two one bullpen in half mound uh went good so really just trying to stay strong focus
04:08on
04:08some throwing mechanics i can flat ground and carry them over to the mound and what's what's the
04:14difference for i know it's old hat for you but for our listeners what's the difference between the
04:18progression from flat ground to eventually getting back on the mound why is that like so difficult
04:24and so important uh i mean we throw on flat ground more than we throw on the slope but
04:30there's certain things you can do on the slope that you can't do on flat ground um you can't recreate
04:37the slope on flat ground so if you are trying to feel what you're feeling on the slope you're just
04:42going to create bad habits and be even more turned around when you get on the mound um so you
04:51kind of
04:51got to take it for a grain of salt and notice two different feelings you're you're looking for
04:57between flat ground and the mound they kind of mesh into one once you get there do you have an
05:03internal
05:03thought of maybe post all-star break or is it too early to kind of hammer out a timeline i've
05:09heard
05:09pre-all-star and just right after all-star so um i'm just really trying to take it day by
05:17day
05:18bullpen by bullpen the mike maddox had a very in my mind it was simple but it was also very
05:24effective
05:24keep it low away and every once in a while throw up and in and scare him off the plate
05:29a little bit
05:29you know the philosophy that you have now with batiks here yeah i mean pitching is pitching um
05:36he was with mad dog learned a lot from him and um is really good himself so i've been really
05:44excited
05:44to watch him he he's gonna help me mechanically get everything right make sure i'm throwing hard
05:50when i come back and um scouting report between the two of us will have a good plan going in
05:56how important is that scouting report and the way somebody delivers it to you because it's got to be
06:02something you got to be able to consume and keep yeah it's a breath of fresh air for sure um
06:07i do homework before games but it's nice to see like see it on paper and have this in the
06:14dugout
06:15with me with my stuff with higgy it's like by the end of all that you just have full trust
06:24i i know i know we were joking about the sudoku to start but do things like that help keep
06:29your
06:30mind sharp at a time when you have to have i'm sure so many numbers and thoughts churning through
06:35your head when you're on the mound i've been thinking pitch calling i would watch games and
06:40follow along with evo's games and all my buddies are in the league so um i can i can call
06:47a pitch i'm
06:47pretty good pretty good i've been doing this since high school so okay fair enough now what
06:53about the competitiveness level that we see at the ping pong table do you engage in such things or
06:59like how do you stack up ping pong ones don't stack well um and i don't i don't know if
07:07they cleared me
07:07through there i didn't make the tournament so i'm like i've been playing i'm like did you think i'm
07:12not capable of playing ping pong you can see it like ping pong injury is slow down yeah that's
07:20the last thing we need yeah there you go jordan montgomery right here on 105.3 the fan
