00:00Hey, bakers, who wants to make it into the finale?
00:02Me!
00:03Me.
00:04Last time, the bakers created animal helper desserts.
00:07Can we put this in the bus?
00:08We actually...
00:09Sorry.
00:10Abigail and Kenneth grabbed the win.
00:13You can see it's like water, right?
00:15It's just like cherry juice.
00:16And Macy and Emmitt's run came to an end.
00:19I'm so sorry, you two.
00:20Now, you're in the finale!
00:24The baking championship next-gen finale.
00:39We're so excited that we made it into the finale.
00:41We never, like, really thought that we would actually make it this far.
00:44Out of 24 great bakers, we would be part of the top three.
00:48Hi, bakers!
00:50Congratulations!
00:51You made it to the finale!
00:56It was a tough road getting here, and believe me,
00:59it's not about to get any easier, because so much is on the line.
01:05We've put you through challenges that tested your skills,
01:09tested your ability to work as a team,
01:12and tested your nerves.
01:14Yeah.
01:15And the entire time, you were all headed for this momentous final challenge.
01:21The last gauntlet that will determine everything.
01:25Today, you three teams are going to battle it out.
01:29And the winning team will leave here as next-gen baking champions with $25,000.
01:38Woo!
01:39Woo!
01:40Woo!
01:40I'm here to win.
01:41If we lost, I would do what I did when we lost the soccer tournament
01:46by one goal with two minutes left in Decatur.
01:50What'd you do?
01:51Go to my room for the rest of the day.
01:55But to get your hands on all that cash,
01:59you'll have to take on the most diabolical challenge we could come up with.
02:03Very comforting.
02:06This will test everything you've learned so far.
02:10Okay.
02:10Siblings are the ultimate team,
02:12and you'll need to rely on each other more than ever.
02:16Ready to find out what it is?
02:18Yes!
02:19Yes!
02:21I'm going to show you how to make a zoetrope cake.
02:25A what?
02:26That sounds fancy.
02:27A zoetrope was one of the first ways people experienced animation in the 1800s.
02:33Now, here is a simple round cake.
02:37Now, I put decorations on it in a pattern that, when you spin it,
02:41makes them look like they're moving up and down.
02:44I have one last diamond to add to the pattern.
02:48I rolled out some fondant.
02:50Now, I'm going to use a cookie cutter
02:53because I want all these shapes to be the same
02:56to really pull off the illusion.
02:59So, here's my last diamond,
03:03but plain fondant's a little boring.
03:06Yeah.
03:06So, what I'm going to do is edge it with a lighter color
03:10to add a little more dimension,
03:11and it becomes a lot more interesting.
03:16In order to make it look animated when you spin it,
03:19you have to evenly space out your decorations.
03:23And to create the idea of movement,
03:25you need to place them at different heights.
03:29Now, here's the magic part.
03:32If I spin this,
03:34you'll see the decorations
03:36going up and down
03:39like it's animated.
03:40Whoa.
03:41Look at that.
03:42That's like, it's like, it's cool.
03:45Yeah, that's crazy.
03:46I like, this challenge was really cool.
03:48Wow.
03:49Sometimes using one of these
03:50can really help you see the animation.
03:52So, I want to pass them out to you.
03:54Cool.
03:54Yeah.
03:55That's cool.
03:56Okay, now, once your cake is ready,
03:59use your own cake wheel,
04:01put your cake on top,
04:02spin it,
04:03use a paddle,
04:03and see if your animation is working.
04:06And if it's not,
04:07you can adjust,
04:08make sure that everything is evenly spaced,
04:10and make sure you have that up and down.
04:13Okay, bakers,
04:14in order to become baking champs,
04:17you'll have to create your very own animated cake.
04:20This challenge is all about working together.
04:23So, we want to give a little advantage
04:25to the team who won the most recent challenge,
04:28and that is Abigail and Kenneth.
04:32Duff and I selected three shapes
04:34to feature on your animated cakes.
04:36We have hearts,
04:38stars,
04:40We need stars.
04:41And flowers.
04:44Abigail and Kenneth,
04:45you two will get to assign each team their shape.
04:49So, which shape do you want for yourselves?
04:51Stars.
04:52Yeah, put stars down,
04:53like a fancy point.
04:54This choice could definitely help us win.
04:56I'm going to be extremely strategic about it.
04:59We'll take hearts.
05:01We'll take hearts.
05:02Hearts, it is.
05:04Can we get stars?
05:05Stars, stars, stars.
05:07Okay.
05:09Now, who gets stars?
05:13Kira and Leah.
05:15Kira and Leah.
05:16Why is that?
05:17Because they have flimsy points.
05:19Because they have flimsy points,
05:21and they're hard.
05:22Shots fired.
05:24What is happening?
05:25It's going to be I'm using a cookie cutter.
05:27Yeah.
05:28I give the stars to Kira and Leah
05:30because they do have confidence
05:32in their fondant work,
05:34but the stars are pointy,
05:36and they can break.
05:37You are playing to win, Abigail,
05:39and I love it.
05:40Okay, so that means
05:42Genesis and Akbar,
05:43you are getting flowers.
05:46And then the flowers,
05:47they're also very breakable.
05:49Just cross my fingers
05:50that neither team can deal with it.
05:52Yeah, well, in the finale,
05:53you kind of have to play to win.
05:55You got to play to win.
05:56That's right, kid.
05:57He's 25K on the line.
05:58All right.
05:59To walk away champions,
06:01you've got to create
06:03insanely delicious
06:04and visually stunning animated cakes.
06:08Okay.
06:09Okay.
06:10Okay.
06:11It can be one or two tiers,
06:13up to you.
06:14But remember,
06:15this is the finale.
06:18We're giving you five hours
06:20for this challenge.
06:22Yes!
06:22Yes!
06:24Five hours.
06:24Because you're going to need it.
06:25Yeah.
06:26Yes.
06:26Oh, that's comforting.
06:28You need to get the measurements,
06:30flavors, and decorations
06:31just right.
06:33So if we do want to win,
06:34we have to work hard for it.
06:35Take a deep breath.
06:38Because your baking time starts
06:42now!
06:44Oh, we're right here.
06:45Oh, gosh.
06:47I was thinking you'd do
06:49double-tiered cake
06:50with a chocolate.
06:52Chocolate cake
06:53with, like, uh,
06:55Ken, uh...
06:55Knetha?
06:56Ketifee?
06:57Ketifee filling,
06:58pistachios,
06:59and strawberry buttercream.
07:00Uh-huh.
07:00Wait, that's such a good idea.
07:01Let's do a...
07:03I'm just going to say a crunch cake
07:04because we haven't done that at all.
07:05Okay.
07:06With a caramel buttercream,
07:07and we're going to do, like,
07:08our design stuff.
07:09Abby, wait!
07:10Hmm?
07:11I need you to tie my apron.
07:14I'll just get a bunch of flour
07:16and sugar.
07:17Yeah.
07:17I want to win all of it
07:18really badly right now
07:19because we made it this far.
07:21Might as well win.
07:22Boo.
07:23Um...
07:24Lame.
07:26We made it this far.
07:28I want to win it
07:29so that I can take $2,000
07:31and buy everything I want.
07:34He wants to be the baking champion
07:36because he wants fame and fortune.
07:38I want to be the baking champion
07:39because I want to be
07:40the baking champion.
07:42Because that's the part I want.
07:43We haven't made chocolate cake
07:45yet in this competition,
07:46and I make a really good chocolate cake.
07:49So we are making a chocolate cake
07:52with blackberry filling
07:54and hazelnuts.
07:56I really like the pop
07:58of blackberry with chocolate.
08:00Oh, yeah.
08:01Our plan to decorate
08:02is have our bottom tier
08:04be very, very pale sunset colors
08:07with the orange hearts
08:09as our zoetrobes.
08:10And then the top tier
08:12will be darker sunset colors
08:14that says heart of the land.
08:17Here's your coffee.
08:18I wanted to read heart of the land
08:20because that's basically
08:22what our entire life revolves around
08:24is land.
08:26We have 3,000 acres of farm ground
08:28that we farm,
08:29and we grow corn and soybeans.
08:33So everything we do everywhere we go
08:36revolves around what season it is
08:38and how good we're doing with the grain.
08:42Why do we put coffee in chocolate cake?
08:44I don't know.
08:45The coffee is often used with chocolate
08:47because it brings out chocolate flavor,
08:49as long as you don't use too much.
08:52During the competition,
08:53Jeff and Cartier have wanted
08:55to see more flavors from us.
08:58I think that this cake
08:59is going to win it all for us
09:00because it's delicious.
09:02There's multiple different flavors
09:03working together,
09:04and it's going to be beautiful.
09:09How's it going, guys?
09:10Good.
09:11Pretty good.
09:11How are you guys doing?
09:12We're doing good.
09:13This is truly the biggest challenge
09:15these kids will ever take on
09:17in this kitchen.
09:18Absolutely.
09:20$25,000.
09:21It smells amazing.
09:23We haven't done anything
09:24like a Zola trophy cake before.
09:26I think it's going to be
09:27pretty difficult for us
09:28because we've just had
09:31a lot of issues with decorating,
09:33so we have to make
09:34a big decorated cake.
09:36I don't think we can do it, though.
09:37Yeah, we can do it.
09:38I don't think we can do it, though.
09:39All right, Genesis and Akbar.
09:41Hi.
09:42You guys made it
09:43to the finale.
09:45Yes.
09:45Yes.
09:46How do you feel?
09:47I feel really good.
09:48How's your journey?
09:50Making it through challenges,
09:51going up and down,
09:53because you've been in the bottom,
09:54and winning.
09:55It's, like, kind of still
09:56mind-blowing because
09:57I didn't even think
09:57we'd make it this far.
09:58So it's still setting in.
10:01It's still setting in.
10:01Like, right.
10:02You've got to stay in the moment
10:03while you can,
10:04but also keep your eye
10:05on the prize.
10:06Yes.
10:07What are you going to do
10:08with your half of the money?
10:09We're going to give
10:10each of our siblings
10:10$1,000.
10:12Yeah.
10:12That's awfully generous.
10:14Yeah.
10:14I want to use it
10:15to keep starting
10:16on my business,
10:17but obviously I'm going
10:18to spend, like, a little.
10:19A little, you know.
10:20Yeah.
10:20A new pair of sneakers.
10:21Yes.
10:22I'm going to go shopping.
10:23Hey, I know that's right.
10:24Get me some new drawing,
10:25uh, supplies.
10:27Nice.
10:27So what kind of cake
10:28are you making?
10:29So we're making
10:29a sweet potato upside down
10:31crunch cake
10:31with a caramel buttercream.
10:33What?
10:34Upside down?
10:35Yes.
10:36So it's, so it has,
10:37like, the bottom of it
10:38is a graham cracker crumbs,
10:39like, crust.
10:39Yeah.
10:40And it'll have
10:40sweet potato pie filling,
10:41then it's like a cake filling.
10:42Uh-huh.
10:42And you'll turn it upside down
10:43so the crust is on top.
10:45You're baking in a crunch layer.
10:47Yes.
10:48Oh, have you done this before?
10:50Yes.
10:50Okay.
10:51What's your shape?
10:52Flowers.
10:52Flowers.
10:53Yes.
10:53Okay.
10:54So we're going to do,
10:55um, pink flowers.
10:56Uh-huh.
10:57With green stems
10:57to look like the flowers
10:59are growing.
10:59Nice.
11:00And then we'll top the cake
11:01with yellow buttercream swirls,
11:04blue coating chocolate flowers,
11:06and fondant lapple.
11:08I need to get out of the way.
11:09Yeah.
11:10Pretty much.
11:10I got it.
11:11I got it, Q.
11:11All right.
11:12Bye.
11:13I'm putting my cake batter
11:15onto my sweet potato crunch filling.
11:18So, so we want to do
11:20sweet potato pie filling
11:21in the finale
11:21because we have done
11:24a sweet potato pie filling before
11:25and the judges really liked it.
11:27Your sweet potato pie filling
11:28is so luscious.
11:31It's delicious.
11:32Wow.
11:33And this is like
11:34sweet potato pie in a cake.
11:42Slow down.
11:43From the trials
11:44to coming to the finale,
11:45we've been in the top
11:45a couple of times.
11:46We've won a couple of times.
11:47We haven't been in the bottom yet.
11:50And we're super, like,
11:52excited and anxious
11:54at the same time
11:54because this is
11:55our final bake.
11:57It needs to be very impressive
11:58and still tastes good
11:59and look good.
11:59And so it's definitely a lot,
12:01but we're so excited
12:02and we're so close.
12:03We really want to earn that money.
12:05We're going to Dubai
12:06chocolate-themed cake
12:07with a chocolate cake
12:08and strawberry buttercream
12:10with kataifi
12:11and our pistachio butter filling.
12:13So our inspiration
12:14for our Flavor Our Cake
12:15is the Fire World Dubai Chocolates
12:17and then more recently,
12:18people have been adding,
12:20doing, like, cups with them,
12:21which, where it's, like,
12:22cut up strawberries
12:23with the kataifi mixture
12:24and the chocolate.
12:26How's it going?
12:27Done.
12:28So Duff and Cardia
12:29have been telling us
12:30for this whole competition
12:31to make sure
12:32our flavors are
12:33super-duper balanced,
12:35bold, and bright.
12:36Yeah, so we're going
12:36to focus on that.
12:37The shape that we got assigned
12:39is stars.
12:40I'm actually fine with stars
12:41because I like making things gold
12:42and gold stars
12:43are really pretty.
12:44So we're planning to decorate
12:45the 10-inch
12:46to kind of do some splatters
12:47of chocolate.
12:48And we want to put the words
12:49next-gen on it in gold
12:51to match our gold stars.
12:52And the 8-inch
12:53is going to be
12:53our galaxy buttercream
12:55with the stars.
12:56And then we're planning
12:57to put kind of, like,
12:58a sun on top.
13:00It's just nice and smooth.
13:02We've never made this cake.
13:03We've made all components
13:04separately,
13:04but never in a cake.
13:06So this is definitely
13:07something new.
13:08And doing something new
13:10on the finale
13:10can be risky,
13:11but it also can work out
13:12really well.
13:13A little bit more.
13:14So that one's got a little bit more.
13:15Oh, that's a lot.
13:16Well, it's fine.
13:18Are you sure?
13:18Mm-hmm.
13:19We put our batter
13:20in our pans,
13:21weighing them to make sure
13:22we have about the same amount
13:23in each pan.
13:24Do you think that's enough?
13:25We're one cake pan short.
13:27We're going to have
13:28to make more batter.
13:29Four hours left, Bakers.
13:31Oh, no.
13:32This is really going
13:33to slow us down.
13:39So we were one cake pan
13:41short of batter,
13:42so we have to make
13:42more batter in order to...
13:44Yes.
13:45Okay.
13:45In order to keep going.
13:46We had to quickly
13:47make some more batter
13:48so we can get our cakes
13:49in the oven
13:50so we'll have enough time
13:51to do everything else.
13:53Three.
13:54Three and a half hours left.
13:55It all comes down
13:57to this cake.
13:59Awkwar.
14:00Awkwar.
14:00Awkwar, come here.
14:01Come here.
14:04Awk.
14:06Come over here.
14:07Oh, ooh.
14:07Oh.
14:08Mama Genesis
14:09is in the building.
14:10Yeah.
14:10What?
14:11You need to come help me
14:12get these cakes
14:12out of the thing, man.
14:13It's the pressure.
14:14Oh, my gosh.
14:15It's the pressure.
14:16Wow.
14:16Can I use your, um,
14:18uh, hand mitt, oven mitts?
14:19Yeah, sure.
14:21Awkwar.
14:25Make sure you stir this.
14:27Kenneth, got it.
14:29I have seen
14:30so much growth
14:31from Abigail and Kenneth.
14:33Yeah.
14:34I think Kenneth
14:35is the reason
14:36why they're in the finale.
14:37Yeah.
14:37Not only
14:38has Kenneth stepped up,
14:40Abigail has allowed
14:42him to step up.
14:43Yes.
14:43Can you set out
14:44a cooling rack
14:44because I have three cakes.
14:46Yep.
14:48Abigail and Kenneth.
14:49Hello.
14:50Okay, so
14:50do you think
14:52the day that you
14:52walked into tryouts
14:54that you would be here
14:55in the finale
14:56today?
14:56Not really.
14:57If I worked hard enough.
14:59Ooh, I like that.
15:00Throughout this journey,
15:01it's been up and down, right?
15:02Mm-hmm.
15:03There's a pass challenge.
15:04You guys won
15:05for the very first time.
15:06How did that feel?
15:07It felt great.
15:08It was good.
15:09Yeah.
15:09What if you win?
15:11$25,000.
15:12That'd be awesome.
15:13I promised my whole family
15:14paintball guns,
15:15so I would buy them that,
15:16and then I'd probably
15:17just, uh, invest it
15:18until I'm 18
15:19and then I could buy a farm.
15:20Wow.
15:21What would you do, Kenneth?
15:22I'd buy a 3D printer
15:23and then invest it
15:24in the stock market.
15:25Excuse me?
15:26Do you know
15:27about the stock market?
15:28I do.
15:29I've played the stock
15:30and bonds multiple times.
15:32If I have a little
15:32extra money
15:33and I want to put it
15:34in the market,
15:34what should I invest
15:34in right now?
15:35Well, it depends
15:37how much money
15:38you're willing to spend,
15:39because if you have
15:40a good amount of money
15:41that you want to put into it...
15:43I have $25,000.
15:44No, that's ours.
15:45I definitely...
15:46Ooh.
15:46Ooh, ooh.
15:48Ooh, kitchen,
15:48did you hear that?
15:50Oh, ho, ho, ho.
15:51Ooh.
15:52It's getting spicy.
15:54Let's hope for the best,
15:56all right?
15:56Yes.
15:56Bye.
15:57You can save this whenever.
15:58Okay.
15:58To assemble the cakes,
16:00I put in blackberry buttercream.
16:02I'm going to put
16:02a thin thing
16:03of buttercream right there.
16:04Put in the blackberry filling
16:06and then sprinkle
16:07a generous amount
16:08of hazelnuts on top.
16:10Some of them
16:11are going to be whole.
16:12Duff, those hazelnuts
16:13are huge.
16:15Yeah, they'll chop them up, right?
16:16I hope so.
16:18All right, I'm going to
16:19blast chill this one
16:20and then do the other.
16:22Akbar, you started fondant?
16:24Yeah.
16:24My main focus
16:25in this challenge
16:26is decorating,
16:27so I'm making
16:28the flowers out of fondant
16:30and painting the edges yellow.
16:32It probably might give
16:33a little more dimension to it.
16:34Oh, this is looking nice.
16:36You know, Kari,
16:36this is interesting.
16:37We did shout-outs
16:38in the try-outs
16:40of people who did well
16:41in different categories.
16:42We did.
16:42Mm-hmm.
16:43Genesis and Akbar
16:44got a shout-out for flavor.
16:46They did.
16:46Look at them now.
16:47They're here.
16:48in the finale
16:48and making a cake,
16:50which we know
16:51they're amazing at.
16:52Yeah.
16:53But some of their decorating
16:55has been a little iffy.
16:56A little rocky.
16:57And that's because
16:57of time management.
16:58Now they've got five hours.
17:00Yes.
17:00If they use their time right,
17:02I don't think anybody in here
17:03can bake a cake
17:04as well as us do.
17:05Ooh.
17:07You did it.
17:07Okay.
17:08Ooh.
17:08To start stacking my cake,
17:10I start with a layer
17:10of my crunch cake,
17:12a layer of buttercream,
17:13another layer of crunch cake,
17:14and then I repeat
17:15until my cake is built.
17:20Wait.
17:21How do I open this?
17:24Oh.
17:26Got the cake done.
17:27Oh, sorry.
17:28Make sure you're getting
17:29all the edges.
17:30Mm-hmm.
17:31For our Dubai filling,
17:32we just combine
17:33our pistachio butter
17:34and toasted kataifi together.
17:35This is kataifi,
17:37and it is a Middle Eastern
17:39and Mediterranean
17:40shredded pastry.
17:41It's a good texture
17:42for the cake.
17:43It's really crunchy.
17:44It's also going to add
17:45a lot of flavor,
17:45and so I think the judges
17:48will really love it.
17:48To make the pistachio butter,
17:50I start by blending
17:51my pistachios.
17:52So I add a little bit
17:52of coconut oil, melt it,
17:54and then I add, like,
17:55three or four tablespoons
17:56of tahini into it.
17:58All right.
17:59Kataifi's done.
18:00We combine both our kataifi
18:02and our pistachio butter.
18:04Look at that.
18:06Are you doing, like,
18:07a Dubai chocolate thing?
18:08Oh, yeah.
18:09Nice.
18:10Leah and Kira's flavor journey
18:12has been up and down.
18:14They've made some stuff
18:15that's been beautiful
18:16and not delicious.
18:18Yep.
18:18But they have made some stuff
18:20that has been delicious.
18:22Does, like,
18:23a tahini mixture
18:23go in the middle?
18:24When all of our components
18:25are ready,
18:26we start to assemble.
18:27Okay, we'll put this here.
18:28I start by piping
18:29some strawberry buttercream,
18:30add my mixture in,
18:31and then I do all my layers.
18:33Three layers is so great.
18:34Isn't that crazy, Kira?
18:34I started making
18:35two batches of buttercream.
18:37One was white
18:37and one was black.
18:38To make it black,
18:39I had a black cocoa
18:40and a little bit
18:41of black dye.
18:42Kira, can you try it again?
18:46Mmm.
18:47Oh, Kira, you're all black.
18:49I am?
18:49Your mouth is...
18:52Smile.
18:54That's hilarious.
18:55Once it's all stacked,
18:56I started piping
18:57the black cake.
18:58It's supposed to represent,
18:59like, space.
19:00It's kind of like a galaxy.
19:01And I start making the stars.
19:03Leah and Kira,
19:05you guys got stars.
19:06Hello.
19:07Look at that.
19:09So, Kira,
19:09your half of the cake
19:10could be worth $12,500.
19:13Yes.
19:14What are you going to do
19:15if you win?
19:15Um, honestly,
19:16I'm going to save a lot of it,
19:18you know, for college and stuff.
19:19And I'm going to definitely
19:21buy another stand mixer,
19:23more equipment for,
19:24you know,
19:25my home little bakery.
19:26Yeah.
19:26Um, I'm probably
19:28going to save most of it.
19:29And I'll probably
19:30buy some new horse stuff.
19:31Perfect.
19:32Okay, what are we making here?
19:34Okay, so these are the stars
19:35for our galaxy-themed cake.
19:38A galaxy?
19:39Do you guys like space?
19:40Yeah, I think space is pretty cool.
19:42Yeah?
19:42Whoa, that looks awesome.
19:44Awesome space?
19:45Oh, I just want to watch
19:46this happen for a second.
19:47Okay.
19:47Yeah.
19:48This one is going to be
19:49where our, um...
19:51Zoetrope.
19:52Zoetrope.
19:52I always forget the name.
19:54Zoetrope stars are going
19:56to move along
19:56and look like it's animated.
19:59Awesome.
19:59Good luck, ladies.
20:01Do a good job.
20:02Then I take buttercream
20:03and I make white speckles
20:05so it looks kind of like
20:06more stars, I guess.
20:07Jura, do you think this is done?
20:09Do whatever you think, Leah.
20:10Two hours left.
20:11How are you guys doing
20:12on your cakes?
20:13They're doing pretty good.
20:14Good.
20:16Nice.
20:18I want to add some color
20:19to the cake,
20:20so I do a purple color spray,
20:23um, around my cake
20:24to give it a little more life.
20:27Whoa!
20:29Why is it not spraying
20:30consistently how I want it?
20:33As, um, I am spraying
20:35the color onto my cake,
20:37I see that there are dark spots
20:39and I really don't want that,
20:40so I try to go in
20:41and smooth it out,
20:42but it makes...
20:44looks like the cake is uneven.
20:46It's every time
20:46I keep spraying it,
20:48it's like it keeps going
20:49into chunks
20:49and then I have to wipe it off.
20:51This is not good
20:52and this is not how
20:52I wanted my finale cake to go.
20:59I don't know
21:01what's going on.
21:01So we're going to have
21:02to figure out a way
21:03to fix this.
21:04So I go in
21:05and try to smooth it out
21:07to give it, like,
21:07a gradient technique.
21:10Oh, I see you, Picasso.
21:12And it has actually worked.
21:14It looks really nice.
21:15How much time do we have left?
21:16Ninety minutes left.
21:18Ninety minutes left?
21:19Okay.
21:20Remember, you've got
21:20to make those cakes
21:21animated masterpieces.
21:24And that cake
21:25better taste great, too.
21:26What if we, like,
21:27did kind of a yellow
21:28with it also?
21:29Like, knead them together
21:31so they're all the same color?
21:32Yes.
21:33But it needs to really pop.
21:34It needs to be bright.
21:35I will be cutting out
21:37the hearts out of fondant,
21:38so I mix orange
21:40and yellow fondant
21:41to make kind of
21:41a lighter orange
21:42and cut a ton of parts.
21:45It's hard to believe
21:46that this cake
21:47could be worth $25,000.
21:49Just focus on moving it.
21:51So the bottom tier
21:52is really, really pale
21:53sunset colors.
21:54I'm going to pipe
21:56very pale shades
21:57of yellow, orange, and pink
21:59on my bottom tier
22:00of my cake.
22:02Kenny, look it.
22:04Oh, that's incredible, Abby.
22:07Well, I did make
22:08the buttercream.
22:10To get the zoetrop to work,
22:12every heart needs to be
22:13almost exactly the same.
22:15This should work
22:16because each one goes here
22:17and they need to be
22:19in an even straight line,
22:20evenly spaced apart.
22:22And this is the part
22:23that I'm going to be
22:23so picky on
22:25because that's
22:26the actual challenge
22:27and that's what
22:28needs to be important.
22:30All right, Pythagoras.
22:34So, what's happening?
22:36Don't talk to Abby.
22:38She's busy.
22:39Each of these
22:41is 22 inches.
22:43Yeah.
22:44And with how big
22:44my hearts are,
22:46when they're arranged
22:47in the triangle,
22:48there's the same gap
22:49between every single
22:50one of them.
22:51And then I cut
22:51the measure of each
22:52of them in half,
22:53trace that down,
22:54and then each bottom one
22:55will be the exact same
22:57distance from each other.
22:58Did you invent this process?
23:00My mom's a math teacher,
23:01so I do a lot of math.
23:02Okay.
23:03So, it's very helpful.
23:04Gotcha.
23:05Kenneth, has Abigail
23:06been shushing you?
23:07She told me just,
23:09when I'm putting
23:10the hearts on,
23:10just don't talk to me
23:11or you'll get mad
23:12because I'm going
23:13to snap at you.
23:16All right.
23:17Farm kids,
23:18do a good job.
23:20All right.
23:21Spin.
23:23A little faster.
23:25Once the zoetrope
23:27is on the cake,
23:27we're making sure
23:28that we test it a lot.
23:31It's so cool.
23:32And make sure
23:33it looks like
23:34the exact same image
23:35is moving up and down.
23:37Wait, you do it.
23:38Spin it evenly.
23:39You know what, Duff?
23:40What's so cool
23:41about this animated
23:41cakes challenge
23:42is that it requires
23:43a lot of teamwork.
23:45Yeah, this is about
23:47the engineering.
23:48Yes.
23:49This is about, like,
23:50making sure that
23:51everything is evenly spaced.
23:53Okay.
23:53Making sure you have
23:53the pattern just right.
23:55And you need
23:56a second set
23:58of eyeballs.
23:58Yes.
23:59It works.
24:00It works.
24:01I don't have to redo it.
24:02Because it works.
24:03It's, like, hypnotizing.
24:05I'm kind of going
24:06to do, like,
24:07a splatter design,
24:08like Jackson Pollock
24:08my cake.
24:10Whoa.
24:12This is cool, right?
24:13The bottom tier,
24:14we're thinking, like,
24:15staying true,
24:16kind of,
24:17to Dubai chocolates.
24:18They typically have
24:18splatter green and yellow,
24:20but we're going to do
24:21splatter bluish
24:22and purplish
24:22because galaxy.
24:24Wow.
24:25Purple really splattered up.
24:27Looks really cool, though.
24:29Look out.
24:30Move your hand.
24:31Okay.
24:32So we decided
24:33to do a white background
24:34on our yellow star
24:35just to make it
24:36pop a little more
24:37because on a black background
24:38needs to look vibrant.
24:39Let me do it, please.
24:40My biggest concern
24:41is making the effect,
24:43like, work properly,
24:44making our stars
24:46look aligned
24:46and look good, basically.
24:48Look neat,
24:49like Jeff showed us.
24:50Okay, go.
24:55Oh, that's super cool,
24:56but hold on.
24:57There's a mistake.
24:58It's right here.
24:59Yeah.
25:00That's weird.
25:01How are we going to fix that?
25:03Space it out more?
25:04Yes, let's do that.
25:09Our cake is frosted.
25:11Everything is good.
25:12We just have to get our flowers
25:14on to start this animation.
25:16One, two, three, four.
25:18One, two.
25:19One, two, three, four.
25:21We do a zoetrope
25:22of the flowers growing
25:23and getting taller
25:24and then going back down.
25:26No, no, no, pause.
25:26That's too close for me.
25:28The other teams
25:28just have their shapes
25:29on their cake
25:30and we made stems on ours,
25:32so we really want ours
25:32to stand out.
25:33Oh, that's going to be cute.
25:34Okay.
25:3530 minutes.
25:36Get it done.
25:37Use all your decorating skills
25:39to make your cakes come alive.
25:41So I'm in a tractor cab
25:43until, like, late at night,
25:44so I see wide open fields
25:45and you can see, like,
25:46the entire sunset.
25:48The top tier is going to be,
25:49like, a very dark sunset.
25:51Every one thing I've learned
25:53during this competition.
25:55That you're better than you think?
25:57I had skills I didn't know I had.
26:00I am feeling a lot more confident.
26:04So I'm arranging raw candy
26:06in heart molds
26:07and then I'm going to pour, like,
26:09melted ice malt over them
26:10and then put them around
26:11the top tier of my cake.
26:13Look at that.
26:14I'm a pro.
26:16Here, look at it.
26:17This one's going to have
26:18some orange on it.
26:18Okay.
26:19We decided to put a sun
26:20on top of our cake
26:21and I decided to make it
26:22out of chocolate
26:23and so to make my sun,
26:24I took my dome,
26:25I put chocolate in it
26:26and I'm brushing up the sides
26:27to get an even coat
26:28so it all doesn't sink
26:29to the bottom.
26:30It does not need very long.
26:32for, like, five seconds.
26:33So right now,
26:34I am just picking up
26:35our frozen pistachio
26:37and kentucky mixture
26:38and then wrap it
26:40around my strawberries
26:40and then dip them
26:41in chocolate
26:42for a nice, crunchy bite.
26:44What are Lee and Kira
26:45doing with those strawberries?
26:46I don't know.
26:47Where would they go?
26:48Kira, looking good.
26:52Oh, that's cool.
26:53Thanks.
26:54So our plan was
26:55to make this
26:56an interactive cake,
26:57so we're going to hide
26:58the Dubai chocolate
26:59strawberries under the sun
27:01so that the judges
27:01can break the top
27:02to reveal
27:03all the other little
27:04treats inside.
27:05Am I lined up
27:05in the line, Kira?
27:06Yes.
27:07Okay.
27:08Five minutes.
27:09The championship
27:10is on the line.
27:11Make them, make them,
27:12make them, make them,
27:12make them, quickly.
27:13Okay, I got it,
27:14I got it, I got it.
27:14I got it.
27:15I need you to make
27:15those little lollipops
27:16to put on the top, okay?
27:17So we want to add
27:18some fondant lollipops
27:20to the top of the cake.
27:21So we roll out
27:23three different colors
27:24of fondant
27:24and then roll them together
27:26and then like twist them
27:28to like make it
27:29look like a lollipop.
27:33Man, good.
27:43We can do this.
27:45All right, quickly
27:45with a quickness.
27:48There we go.
27:49Moving.
27:51Excuse me.
27:52Stop, stop.
27:53I'm gonna, I'm gonna,
27:54one minute.
27:55One team is gonna walk
27:56out of here
27:57with 25,000 bucks
27:59in their pocket.
28:00Awkward.
28:01Quickly.
28:01Right here.
28:07This is so nerve wracking.
28:08Ten seconds.
28:10Whoa.
28:11Spin it around.
28:14I'm still gonna test it.
28:18We're good.
28:19That's it.
28:21It all comes down
28:22to this.
28:24That was pretty good.
28:25Does your guys' work?
28:26Or what?
28:28Illusion.
28:28Yeah.
28:29Did you test it?
28:30No.
28:30No?
28:31Okay.
28:31So we didn't get
28:32to use the zoetrope
28:33but from turning it
28:35I think it looks
28:35like an animation.
28:36I hope since
28:38that is the challenge.
28:43For our final challenge
28:45we really pushed
28:46our bakers to the limit.
28:48Yeah, because this time
28:49it's not just about
28:50flavor and decoration
28:52but it's also about
28:54animation.
28:55I love this challenge.
28:57Let's go.
28:57Genesis and Akbar.
29:00I'm scared.
29:01We're about to go
29:02into judging
29:03and my biggest concern
29:05is probably
29:06just the flowers.
29:08Look at those
29:09spring flowers.
29:11Look at that.
29:12Tell us about your cake.
29:13Okay, so we made
29:14a sweet potato
29:14upside down crunchy cake.
29:16We got the shaped flowers
29:17so for our animation
29:18the stems will grow
29:19and then they'll
29:19like come back down.
29:21So, yeah.
29:24Like a garden growing.
29:25Yes.
29:26How has your journey been
29:27from like the tryout
29:29to now?
29:30If it was a roller coaster
29:31it would have been
29:32the most fun roller coaster
29:33ever.
29:34It would have been
29:35up and down
29:36and up
29:37and it's just
29:38a lot of things.
29:40Yeah, we definitely
29:40both got to see
29:41each other's skills.
29:42It's really just been
29:43a bonding experience
29:44for us.
29:45You have been
29:45on the bottom
29:46a few times
29:47and I'm glad
29:48that you took
29:48all of the advice
29:49and you began
29:50to rise
29:51like your flowers.
29:52Okay, so
29:53the cake is so fun.
29:55It has so much
29:56personality.
29:56The purple,
29:58the flowers,
29:59the lollipop.
30:00I love this cake.
30:01It's bright
30:02and it's colorful.
30:04It's got a ton
30:04of movement
30:05even when it's not moving.
30:06You know,
30:06it really does.
30:07Now,
30:08your flowers themselves,
30:09your pattern,
30:11it looks to me
30:12like you didn't
30:12have much of a plan.
30:14It's very irregular.
30:15To get a smooth
30:16animation,
30:17you really want
30:18to have
30:19kind of regular spacing.
30:21You want to be
30:22pretty consistent
30:23all the way around.
30:24Okay.
30:24All right,
30:24the proof is in the pudding.
30:26Let's spin the cake.
30:27Okay.
30:30Oh.
30:31Okay.
30:36Yeah,
30:36I think,
30:37you know,
30:37the animation,
30:38it's flowing,
30:39it's doing its thing.
30:40It's up,
30:41it's down,
30:41and then it drops.
30:42It's not smooth.
30:43So I think it's like
30:45two-thirds successful.
30:47Okay.
30:47Let's try some cake.
30:48Okay.
30:49So the base of our cake
30:50is a speculose
30:52graham cracker cookie crust,
30:53and then it has
30:54a sweet potato filling layer.
30:56Oh.
30:57Whoa.
30:58And a yellow
30:59butter cake layer.
31:00Filled with caramel
31:01buttercream.
31:02Golly.
31:04You're welcome.
31:04Thank you, Akbar.
31:06God,
31:06look at that.
31:07It's a cake
31:08and a pie.
31:09Wow.
31:14I love your sweet potato
31:15pie filling.
31:17It is delicious.
31:19Coupled with like
31:19that cookie crumb
31:20is really,
31:21really good.
31:22I think the problem
31:23comes in
31:24with your sponge.
31:26Your sponge
31:27is dense,
31:28like overworked.
31:30Mm-hmm.
31:30Totally delicious.
31:32Doing like
31:32a cookie crunch
31:33inside of a cake
31:34is so smart.
31:36What a beautiful
31:37texture to have.
31:38Just the sponge itself,
31:39not what I expected.
31:40Overall, though,
31:41you made an
31:42absolutely beautiful
31:43cake with
31:43incredible flavor.
31:46Bye-bye, guys.
31:47Nice job, you too.
31:48I feel pretty good
31:49about everything.
31:49It was just
31:50the little stop
31:51in our animation
31:52and then the cake
31:53was a little dense,
31:54but everything else
31:55they said was really good,
31:56so I'm really,
31:56really proud
31:57of what we did.
32:00Abigail and Kenneth.
32:03Going into
32:04our final judging,
32:05I'm feeling
32:06kind of nervous.
32:08Hello, farm kids.
32:10Please tell us
32:11about your cake.
32:12So we made
32:13a chocolate cake
32:15with blackberry filling,
32:17blackberry buttercream,
32:18and toasted hazelnuts,
32:20and then frosted it
32:21in just a plain
32:22American buttercream.
32:23And then the decorations
32:24are...
32:24I'll do the decorations.
32:26Okay.
32:26The decorations
32:27are fondant hearts,
32:30obviously,
32:31and then,
32:33what are they called, Abby?
32:34Isomalt.
32:35So isomalt hearts.
32:36Yes.
32:37Basically.
32:37The inspiration
32:38of the colors
32:39is the beautiful sunsets
32:41we get where we live.
32:42So let me ask you this.
32:43How has the experience
32:44been for you both?
32:46It's been amazing.
32:47The experience
32:48has been incredible.
32:49He was an amazing help.
32:51Okay.
32:51I probably couldn't
32:52have done it
32:53with just one person.
32:54Do you think
32:54that your relationship
32:56with your brother
32:57has evolved a little bit?
32:58Definitely.
32:59Yeah?
32:59I definitely got to
33:00know his personality
33:01better.
33:02Yeah?
33:02Do you trust him
33:03a little more?
33:03A little bit more.
33:04Yeah?
33:05I think I've had enough
33:06baking for a while,
33:07though.
33:08All right.
33:10Presentation-wise,
33:11I see the sunset,
33:12and the isomalt hearts
33:14are so cool
33:15because it has
33:15so much texture
33:16and the color of it
33:18is so beautiful.
33:19This soft orange,
33:20it's like,
33:21this is a very soft cake.
33:22Your cake is really beautiful.
33:25It's really, really nice.
33:26Your piping is pretty even.
33:28Not, it's not perfect,
33:29but it's pretty even.
33:30Ah!
33:31Now here comes
33:32the moment of truth.
33:34Spin that cake, Abigail.
33:39It's so good.
33:41Oh, my gosh!
33:43Abigail,
33:44the time you took
33:46to measure those out
33:47absolutely paid off.
33:50Your animation
33:51is so smooth.
33:54Look at that.
33:56Now let's cut it up.
33:57Okay.
33:58Mm-hmm.
34:00Thank you, Abigail.
34:01Awesome.
34:01Thank you, Kenneth.
34:02Look at that cake.
34:04Look how thick.
34:11This, this is really,
34:14really good quality
34:16chocolate cake.
34:17Your blackberry filling
34:18is delicious.
34:19It's nice and sweet.
34:20It's not too acidic.
34:21It's right what I want
34:23with this.
34:24I, I'm not a fan
34:26of the hazelnuts.
34:27Okay.
34:27I think that maybe
34:29if you chopped them
34:30up a little more.
34:31Okay.
34:31But it's just,
34:32it's so big.
34:33It was like such
34:34a big hazelnut.
34:35Okay.
34:37Your blackberry frosting
34:40is delicious.
34:42Like, I could just
34:42eat a tub of that.
34:44The star of the show
34:45is, is the sponge.
34:46It is so, like,
34:47soft, filleting
34:48and melting your mouth.
34:50It's really, really good.
34:51All right.
34:51For the last time,
34:52Abigail and Kenneth,
34:53thank you so much.
34:54Thank you, guys.
34:56It's all over.
34:57I don't know if it's
34:57that one bad thing.
34:59It wasn't that bad.
35:00It was just hazelnuts.
35:05Hello, Leah and Kira.
35:07What do you got?
35:07Today we made
35:08a Dubai chocolate
35:10themed cake
35:11with strawberry buttercream.
35:14And Dubai chocolate
35:15is, like,
35:17the katai-themed
35:18mixture with pistachio paste.
35:20And then we did
35:21our stars were
35:23our, like, designs.
35:24Like, you know,
35:25we want to kind of
35:26make it look like
35:26a shooting star,
35:27kind of like that,
35:28going up and down.
35:29And then we have
35:30a sun on top.
35:31So it's space,
35:33kind of galaxy themed.
35:34But this is also
35:35kind of an interactive cake
35:36because there's stuff
35:37hidden in the sun.
35:38Really?
35:39Yes.
35:41Well, that's exciting.
35:42Yeah!
35:43What was your experience
35:44like in the kitchen?
35:45So it was definitely
35:46a lot of fun.
35:47A little bit stressful
35:48at times.
35:49But it was definitely
35:50a lot of fun
35:51because I got to work
35:51with my sibling
35:52on these wonderful bakes.
35:54And we got to meet you guys.
35:56So it's been
35:56especially amazing.
35:57Do you think you guys
35:58got a little closer?
35:59For sure.
36:00Oh, yeah.
36:01100%.
36:01You go through battle
36:02with somebody, right?
36:03You definitely, right?
36:04You get a lot closer.
36:06All right.
36:06Well, I love space
36:09and I just,
36:09I really enjoy your cake.
36:11The way that you got
36:12these very subtle colors,
36:14you know,
36:15it looks like
36:15the Oort cloud.
36:17Mm.
36:18A bunch of stuff
36:19flying around in space.
36:21It's a specific distance
36:22away from the Earth
36:24because of gravity.
36:25We have this thing
36:25called the Oort cloud
36:26named after a guy
36:29and his last name
36:30was Oort.
36:31And he discovered it.
36:32It's a thing.
36:34The Oort cloud.
36:35Your top tier
36:36is so fun and dark
36:38and it's very different
36:39from what we've seen
36:40from you all.
36:41All right, girls.
36:42Let it rip.
36:46Yeah, it kind of goes like,
36:47up, down, up, down.
36:48Ooh.
36:50Oh.
36:51Cool.
36:52Wow.
36:53Yeah, I see the motion.
36:55That's awesome.
36:56But what does it taste like?
36:59As you can see,
37:00a little bit of surprise
37:01What's that inside?
37:01Oh, nice.
37:03Is that chocolate
37:04covered strawberries?
37:04Dubai chocolate
37:05covered strawberries.
37:06Oh.
37:07Wow.
37:08Oh, yeah,
37:09that looks great.
37:10It's a big old strawberry.
37:12It is.
37:15There's a lot of layers to it.
37:17Oh, there's a lot in there.
37:19Yeah.
37:19The flavor is good
37:21and I like the combination.
37:22I'm glad you kind of
37:23added the strawberry
37:24for some of the
37:26acidity
37:26and brighten it up
37:27a little bit.
37:27This is a good
37:29dense chocolate cake.
37:30I think your cocoa flavor
37:31is great.
37:31It's not bitter.
37:32I think your strawberry
37:34buttercream
37:34is a little sweet
37:35but it's also really good.
37:37Those two together
37:38is absolutely delicious.
37:40I think where you stumbled
37:42was the pistachio.
37:44In a cake,
37:45the texture,
37:46it's just too much.
37:47Okay.
37:48You guys were so much fun.
37:50Thank you so much
37:50for everything you've
37:51baked for us.
37:52Absolutely.
37:53Good luck.
37:54Bye.
37:55Bye.
37:56I think we have
38:00a shooting chance
38:00but...
38:01Like a shooting star.
38:02Yeah.
38:03I think we do have
38:03a shooting chance.
38:04You know,
38:04I obviously don't know
38:05what happened
38:06with the other people
38:06and it's going to be
38:08a surprise.
38:09Yep.
38:12Cartier, I think that
38:13these bakers did some
38:14of their best work
38:15of the entire competition.
38:17Yeah, they took on
38:18a lot of chances
38:19in the finale,
38:20especially Genesis
38:21and Akbar.
38:22Huh.
38:23This the cake batter?
38:24Yeah.
38:25Genesis made
38:26a upside down
38:28sweet potato pie
38:29crunch cake.
38:31What?
38:32It was crazy
38:34but very,
38:35very flavorful.
38:36Yeah, you know,
38:37the sponge was
38:37a little tough.
38:38Yeah.
38:39But the pie was silky
38:41and gooey
38:42and luscious.
38:43Mm-hmm.
38:44Let's just, uh,
38:45let's just take a look.
38:46Okay.
38:47It was really beautiful,
38:49really fun.
38:50I like that they,
38:51you know,
38:51they had all these flowers,
38:53these different sizes.
38:54They were cute.
38:55But there's like,
38:55there's a skip.
38:57Yeah.
38:57With their animation.
38:59Mm-hmm.
38:59Abigail and Kenneth.
39:00It looks really good.
39:02They gave us chocolate cake
39:03with blackberry filling
39:05and toasted hazelnut.
39:07I loved the cake.
39:08Yeah.
39:09And the blackberries
39:11were sweet and juicy
39:12and lovely.
39:13Yeah.
39:13I did not like
39:15a big old hazelnut in there.
39:17The hazelnut was an afterthought.
39:19And, you know,
39:19I think Abigail and Kenneth
39:20did really nice work, too.
39:22That sunset on their farm.
39:24You know,
39:24I gotta tell you,
39:25their heart decorations
39:26were beautiful.
39:28So clean.
39:28And very clean.
39:30Like, clear animation.
39:32Up and down.
39:33No breaks.
39:34Lee and Kira.
39:36Okay.
39:36That was a really
39:38well-crafted dome.
39:39And, boom.
39:40Obviously successful, right?
39:42It animates.
39:42Yeah.
39:43I loved their flavor profile
39:46of like mixing the strawberry
39:47with the chocolate,
39:48with the kataifi
39:49and the pistachio.
39:50Like, it was very,
39:51like, I like the flavor combination.
39:53The pistachio layer
39:54was just thick.
39:56Yes.
39:56Well,
39:57you know who,
39:58you know who's winning?
40:00I think so.
40:01Yeah?
40:02Yeah.
40:03I do, too.
40:05Bakers!
40:06You gave us
40:07an animated triple feature
40:09of flavor
40:10by creating
40:11edible entertainment.
40:13All of you did
40:14such phenomenal work
40:16all season.
40:17And not just
40:18for young bakers,
40:19but for bakers
40:19of any age.
40:22You make us
40:23very excited
40:24for the next generation
40:25of baking.
40:27That's good.
40:27But in the end,
40:29after all the hard work,
40:32one pair of bakers
40:34created an animated cake
40:35that absolutely
40:36blew our minds.
40:39The bakers
40:41who will walk out of here
40:43with $25,000
40:45as the next-gen
40:47baking champions
40:58are...
40:59Abigail and Kevin!
41:02Oh, God!
41:04We just won!
41:07We won!
41:08No!
41:10No!
41:12No!
41:13No!
41:18I'm going home today with $25,000!
41:34My favorite part of this experience was probably getting to bake with Abigail.
41:41We definitely have a new type of bond.
41:45I'm sure when we get home we'll still fight like normal,
41:47but I think we'll be definitely way more comfortable with each other in the kitchen.
41:52There won't be as much yelling.
41:54Oh my goodness. That was incredible. That was the best reaction.
42:00You did not disappoint. You okay?
42:03Take a deep breath. Take a deep breath. Come here, bring it in.
42:06Great job.
