Twenty-three people were left with only the clothes on their backs after four single-storey squatter houses were destroyed in a fire in Tanjung Tokong early Tuesday (March 3).

Penang Fire and Rescue Department received a distress call at 3.14am.

00:19Upon arrival, firefighters found the fire had engulfed four homes measuring between 55 and 75 square metres, along with a
00:28motorcycle owned by one of the residents.
00:30The fire was brought under control at 3.42am to prevent it from spreading to nearby homes, followed by overhaul
00:38works.
00:39The four houses were occupied by 23 residents, including 10 men, 6 women and 7 children.
00:45All residents managed to escape safely and no injuries were reported.
