Director of Public Health Matt Tyrer discusses the new Health Check Station situated at the Northern Swimming Pool in Ramsey.
Transcript
00:05So first of all can you tell me who you are and what your role is please?
00:08Sure, so my name is Matt Tyra and I am Director of Public Health for the Art of Man Government.
00:12Perfect. And why are we here today? Can you tell me about the new machine for Sir Paul and Ramsey?
00:16Yeah, absolutely. So we've got, in partnership with Sisu Healthcare, we have an automated health kiosk.
00:23So people can use this to check on quite a few of their health statuses.
00:27So it takes some measurements like height, weight, body mass index or BMI, blood pressure and a lifestyle questionnaire
00:36which will allow people to get more control and understanding of their own health and wellbeing.
00:40It might give them some reassurance about where things are going.
00:43It might also be an opportunity for them to look at whether they need some support from a pharmacist
00:48or some changes to their lifestyle or whether they might want to see a GP about something.
00:53So it's an opportunity to identify things early, take control of your own health and potentially make some really positive
01:00lifestyle changes.
01:01It links to an app. It also gives you your results so that you'll be able to decide whether a
01:07conversation with a healthcare professional might be the appropriate next step.
01:10Yeah. So did you think this was something that was missing in the Isle of Man before this?
01:14Do you think it was something that, you know, quite a good addition to what the island's already got?
01:17Yeah, absolutely. The opportunity always to get the understanding of health closer to where people are, closer to their home.
01:23I mean, in particular, places that they're already visiting, that gives them that control over understanding where they're at on
01:30a day-to-day basis.
01:31It makes a huge difference, potentially, to people's lives.
01:34In public health, we're all about prevention and trying to make sure that we are spotting things early,
01:39giving people opportunity to make changes early, is really fundamental.
01:44Because, ultimately, that's the best thing for them, keeps them living healthy, well and independent for longer.
01:48Yeah.
01:49And we want to be able to achieve that. So putting this in a place that, well, you see behind
01:53me.
01:54Community.
01:54There's a big cafe, right in the heart of the community, long opening hours, gives people plenty of opportunity to
02:00be able to use this machine,
02:03take control over those aspects of their health, without otherwise getting tested somewhere,
02:09that they wouldn't necessarily know whether they need to do something different around.
02:13Yeah, yeah. Is there any plans for any other stations?
02:15So this is a pilot.
02:17Right.
02:18Obviously...
02:18See how it goes.
02:18Depends how it's used.
02:20Depends what value people get from it.
02:22But we're working in partnership with Magscare, with the Northern Health and Care community.
02:29So we are looking at how this works, how it's used, and that will inform what we do next.
02:34If we meet the nurses, they will learn so多 look healthy and they might be able to do everything
02:34We'll become lucky.laufë.
