00:00This summer may see a surprising drop in Mexican cartel violence thanks to a really unexpected
00:05reason, a favorite hobby of drug kingpins, soccer. The World Cup is heading not just here to the
00:11United States, but across all of North America, including sites in Mexico and Canada. And
00:16apparently for the love of the game, the deadly Jalisco new generation cartel is considering a
00:21temporary truce during the competition. Last week's military operation killed the cartel's
00:26leader, El Mencho, and sparked a ton of violence across the country, which is still ongoing.
00:31Security expert Dr. Raul Benitez told the Post that it would be in the best interests of both
00:37the cartel and Mexican President Claudia Scheinbaum to reach some sort of truce or risk FIFA removing
00:45Mexico as one of the hosting nations altogether. One of the stadiums slated to host four matches
00:49is just 18 miles away from where El Mencho was killed, the same area where all sorts of cartel-led
00:55horror broke out afterwards. One report even suggested that El Mencho himself purchased
01:00tickets to games at that stadium to hand out to politicians and business owners.
01:04Here's the potential hiccup, though. Former DEA chief Ray Donovan, who led the operation that
01:09captured another infamous kingpin, El Chapo, says it may be impossible for the Mexican government to
01:15come to an agreement with the Jalisco cartel since they currently have no leader with whom to broker
01:20such a deal.
